  Hello, I'm trying to display a game desk and info panel right next to the game desk and I need to calculate minimal width of the info panel in order to display the game desk properly. • NSSortDescriptor for NSFetchRequest sorting unexpectedly

  My entity has a property (sortOrder) that is of the type Decimal(NSDecimalNumber) but when I execute a fetch request using that property as a key, I get back results in a seemingly random order. If I output the value of the property I get really strange values until I get it's intValue. Example: The first run produces this result. The first value is the raw value of the property. • SQL Query to delete oldest rows over a certain row count?

  I have a table that contains log entries for a program I'm writing. I'm looking for ideas on an SQL query (I'm using SQL Server Express 2005) that will keep the newest X number of records, and delete the rest. I have a datetime column that is a timestamp for the log entry. I figure something like the following would work, but I'm not sure of the performance with the IN clause for larger numbers of records. Performance isn't critical, but I might as well do the best I can the first time. DELETE FROM MyTable WHERE PrimaryKey NOT IN (SELECT TOP 10,000 PrimaryKey FROM MyTable ORDER BY TimeStamp DESC)

• Data tweaking code runs fine when executed directly - but never stops when used in trigger

  I have written some code to ensure that items on an order are all numbered (the "position number" or "item number" has been introduced only recently and we did not want to go and change all related code - as it is "asthetics only" and has no functional impact.) So, the idea is to go and check for an records that jave an itemno of NULL or 0 - and then compute one and assign it. When executing this code in a query window, it works fine. When putting it into an AFTER INSERT-trigger, it loops forever.   I'm learning how to develop soap web services with java. So far now I've been following this excelente tutorial http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/jax_ws_2/ it all goes well, I have my web service working from the command line with it's embeded server, and then, with the help of netbeans I deployed it on tomcat. I'd like to know the steps to manually deploy it on tomcat, in order to learn how it's done, and because I don't like depending on an ide. I mean, I'd like to know how everything could be done from the command line and a text editor. I've also found this link that explains how to manually deploy a servlet to tomcat, http://linux-sxs.org/internet_serving/c292.html but I couldn't find any article telling how to deploy a web service... thanks a lot saludos sas

  I'm trying to make a simple calculator application in cocoa. The program hangs when I click on one of my buttons. I think I've traced the problem to the part of my controller that adds a digit to the end of the number currently on the display: - (void)updateNumber:(int)buttonClicked{ *self.activeNumberPointer = *self.activeNumberPointer * 10 + buttonClicked; [outputField setFloatValue:*self.activeNumberPointer]; } I used a pointer to the "activeNumber" in order to allow my program to tell which of the two operands I'm editing. • How to build a setup package for a desktop application using SQL CE 3.5 and Entity Framework?

  I am having a WPF desktop application that uses SQL CE (compact edition 3.5 ) and using the Entity Framework as a Datalayer. As It turned out in (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;958478&sd=rss&spid=2855 ) and (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlce/thread/b6bac277-cf66-4c74-a0b3-e48abedbd161/ ) There Is some problem with the Entity Framework and SQL CE and I had to get the hotfix (basically a new build of the SQL CE called 3.5.1) My problem now is how to build a setup package in order to make it work in case some users already had the SQL CE 3.5 installed on their machines? I have included the DLLs directly in the application but when the sql ce is installed, its DLLs are in the GAC and have precedence over the local ones and the application crashes. I need the build a setup that would work "even if" the user already had the old buggy version.

  My team is trying to setup an Apache reverse proxy from a customer's site into one of our web applications. http://www.example.com/app1/some-path maps to http://internal1.example.com/some-path Inside our application we use struts and have redirect = true set on certain actions in order to provide certain functionality. The 302 status messages from these re-directs cause the user to break out of the proxy resulting in an error page for the end user. HTTP/1.1 302 Found Location: http://internal.example.com/some-path/redirect Is there any way to setup the reverse proxy in apache so that the redirects work correctly? http://www.example.com/app1/some-path/redirect

  Input Server - files of type jpg,tif, raw,png, mov come in via FTP Each file needs to be watermarked, if applicable, and meta data added to the file Then each file needs to be moved to an orders directory where an order file is generated and then packaged as zip file and moved to processing server. The file names are of [orderid_userid_guid].[jpg|tif|mov|png...] As I expect the volume to grow I dont want to work on one file at a time and move it through the work flow. • Manipulating pixels using only toDataURL

  The problem I have is this: I need to be able to dynamically tint an image using Javascript, but I cannot access pixel data via the canvas. I can, however, store the dataURL (or any other text-based data format) and include that with the code, manipulate that data, and then create an image object using that dataURL. My question is, how can I access the RGBA value of each pixel, given only the dataURL. I assume I need to decode the base64 url, but into what format in order to manipulate on the pixel level? And then would be it be as trivial as re-encoding it as base64, slapping it in a url, and the passing to an image? Thanks.

  I'm maintaining some website code that will soon dump all its errors and warnings into a log file. In order to make this a bit more pro-active i plan to parse this log file daily, summarize the warnings and errors (i.e. count the occurrence of each specific one and group by either warning/error) and then email this to the devs on the project. This would likely admittedly be rather trivial with a hash and some further fiddling, I wondered if there is a suitable module on CPAN that i could use to do this task. It would either be one that summarizes specifically perl error/warnings logs or one that summarizes arbitrary text files. Any suggestions?

• Sorting MySQL results within a resultset

  I have a resultset of lets say 10 results. 3 of them have a type 'Pears', and the next 3 have a type 'Apples' and the next three have a type of 'Bananas'. The last record has a type of 'Squeezing Equipment' - unrelated to the fruits. How do I return this set of results (for pagination too) in a GROUPED order that I specify WITHOUT using any inherent sort factor like ALPHABETA or ID etc? • .net difference between right shift and left shift keys

  I am currently working on an application which requires different behaviour based on whether the user presses the right or left shift key (RShiftKey, LShiftKey), however when either of these keys is pressed I only see ShiftKey | Shift. Is there something wrong with my keyboard? (laptop) do I need a new keyboard driver/keyboard in order to send the different key commands maybe... This is a pretty massive problem at the moment, as there is no way of testing that the code works (apart from unit tests). Anyone had any experience of the different shift/alt/ctrl keys?

• Easiest way to pass a javascript array or its values to a servlet and convert to a HashMap

  I have a Javascript array. I want to pass it's data to a servlet using the ajax() method of jQuery. What is the easiest way to do this. The index values i.e. the i in array[i] are not in order, they are numbers that have meaning themselves, hence I cannot simply loop through and create a GET queryString, or so I believe. Maybe I should be converting the JavaScript array to a JSON Object and sending that to the server ?? I am stumped on this one.

  I'm developing a game, a big part of this game, is about scrolling a "circular" background ( the right end of the Background Image can connect with the left start of the Background image ). Should be something like this: ( Entity moving and arrow to show where the background should start to repeat ) This happens in order to allow to have an Entity walking, and the background repeating itself over and over again. • Table View rotate, but not properly (shape change)

  Hello everyone, Here is the thing. I have a ViewController which contain a view in full window. And the program run in landscape mode. I want to put an UITableView over the full screen view but only on right half part of the screen. So I add a UITableView in my view controller, I used the Interface Builder in order to set the Table View in the upper half of the screen so It will be on the right part in LandscapeLeft mode. I searched for on a lot of forum how to rotate my Table View. And so it does... except, It get stuck on the upper half of the landscape mode, it should stick on the right half. I'm not a iPhone coder since long, so I'm a bit confused on how to solve this problem. Do you have any idea on how to resize or make the TableView rotate properly. Thanks,

• Branchless memory manager?

  Anyone thought about how to write a memory manager (in C++) that is completely branch free? I've written a pool, a stack, a queue, and a linked list (allocating from the pool), but I am wondering how plausible it is to write a branch free general memory manager. This is all to help make a really reusable framework for doing solid concurrent, in-order CPU, and cache friendly development. Edit: by branchless I mean without doing direct or indirect function calls, and without using ifs. I've been thinking that I can probably implement something that first changes the requested size to zero for false calls, but haven't really got much more than that. I feel that it's not impossible, but the other aspect of this exercise is then profiling it on said "unfriendly" processors to see if it's worth trying as hard as this to avoid branching.

The problem is that i don't know how the code should be for it to show the next 5. Better idea of what i'm saying Let's say i have 10 comments, i use SELECT * FROM news ORDER BY ID DESC LIMIT 5 that will show the TOP 5 comments say, the comments with ID 10,9,8,7,6 but what if i want the comments with ID 5,4,3,2,1 ?

• Modbus driver: C vs Java

  Hi stackoverflow, I am soon going to start a project where I'm required to program a Modbus driver. My initial approach was to want to do it in Java, however my boss has had contact with a company that has experience in Modbus, and they said C is the better language to approach Modbus. So my boss pretty much demanded it to be in C. My C knowledge is not really big, so it would require me to learn enough to get the Modbus driver working in proper and stable order. So, my question to you stackoverflow people with some experience in Modbus: how important could the choice of C vs Java be? The modbus site seems to have Java libraries, if C was so superior to Java in every way, why would they have those libraries? Would it be useful to learn C properly for the advantages that might give?

  In the world of embedded software (firmware) it is fairly common to observe the order of events, take timings and optimise a program by getting it to waggle PIO lines and capturing their behavior on an oscilloscope. In days gone by it was possible to toggle pins on the serial and parallel ports to achieve much the same thing on PC-based software. This made it possible to capture host PC-based software events and firmware events on the same trace and examine host software/firmware interactions. Now, my new laptop ... no serial or parallel ports! This is increasingly the case. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to go about emitting accurate timing signals off a "modern" PC? It strikes me that we don't have any immediately programmable, lag-free output pins left. The solution needs to run off a laptop, so using add-on cards that only plug into desktops are not permitted.

The architecture that I'm using is as follows: [Client Side] Web-Browser = [Server Side: Glassfish v3] JSP-pages - Web-Services. My web service generates some XML-data, then I want to format it with XSL-stylesheet, pass the result to JSP-page and show to user. I'm using JAXP for XSL-transformations and I want to create a javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource object with XSL-file stream for the javax.xml.transform.Transformer object, but I'm having a difficulty with specifying the path/URL for the XSL-file. So the question is: where should I put my XSL-stylesheets in a project and how should I access them from code? I'm using Glassfish v3 and NetBeans 6.8. Thanks.

• Access Violation Exception only appearing when running C# app without debugger attached

  I have an application that works fine in Visual Studios 2008, and I am trying to get it into VS 2010 in order to use .NET 4, and I have a really weird problem. When I run the code from either Release mode or Debug mode with the debugger attached (F5), I have no problems running the program. However, when I run the program from either Release or Debug without the debugger attached (Shift+F5), I get an Access Violation Exception when I attempt to run some code in a dll from GDCM. I've created the dlls by using CMake and Swig and following the instructions here adjusting the instructions where necessary to build for VS 2010 and .NET 4. Does any one have any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?
