• Why does IIS refuse to serve ASP.NET content?

  My Windows Server 2003 Std server refuses to server ASP.NET content. It serves regular html just fine but anything .net, even a one line html file with an ASPX extention fails silently. Things I've tried: Nothing in the event log or IIS WWW logs when it fails. Fiddler shows no response I reinstalled .NET with C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727aspnet_regiis.exe -U C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727aspnet_regiis.exe -I I give obscenely high permissions on everything I can think of (full control, read, write, etc.) to all possibly relevant users (IUSER*, ASP.NET, etc.). I confirmed that ASP.Net v1 and v2 Web Service Extensions are "allowed" in IIS Confirmed that the Server Manager had IIS and ASP.Net roles enabled Again: this is the scenario: http://localhost/Test/Default.htm <-- Works great! http://localhost/Test/Default.aspx <-- Bombs silently with no message at all Any guidance will be much appreciated! Solution: I reinstalled per the instructions below and it works now. Thanks all!

• Exchange Failover Solution

  I've been given the task to come up with an exchange solution that will support 200 users total throughout 4 states. 1GB per user. It needs to have a failover solution,The failover must reside in another location. There is an mpls that connects the locations. I am hoping to get recomendations on hardware, software setups. I recently worked with some big name reps and they steered me in the wrong direction and now I'm a few days away from my proposal date with bogus quotes and scrambling for a solution. I used to manage a standalone 2003 exchange server for years and am at a loss now with figuring out a clustering/failover...Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

  Hi All, I have a friend that hosts his website on IIS and Windows Server 2003 R2 32-bit. He has .WMV files and .MPG and others and some of these are 30 mb in size! He wonders why users complain the site is slow! So my question is how can we reduce the size of these movies? What software? What settings for bit-rate, etc? Is there free software? I can use either a Mac or a PC. Thoughts are appreciated.

• How To Send Email to Active Directory Group?

  Salvete! I have two servers, one hosts my email server (hMailServer on windows server 2003) and the other hosts active directory (on windows server 2008). I don't have Microsoft Exchange. In Active directory, there are user groups that have email addresses. How can I send an email to a user group? Somewhere I need to be able to connect my mail server to active directory. Maybe AD has a mail pickup folder? I can't find the information that I need. Here is a similar link, but it didn't help me. Send As Distribution Group Email Address? (I think a tag for hMailServer would be a good idea.) Thanks for y'all's help.

• .htaccess stupid issue

  I have a server where I can only configure httpd using .htaccess, a cannot access global configuration. I want to rewrite almost every non-existing path to index.php, so I did something like: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?path=$1 [L,QSA] And that is ok. But another thing I want to do is to prevent access to path where I keep PHP files (I cannot store them somewhere else) which is for example /php. I would like that anything starting with /php rewrites to index.php?path=php... so I did something like: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/php.* RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?path=$1 [L,QSA] And that also would work ok if I had access to global configuration. In case of per-directory configuration, when I access /php it rewrites it to index.php?path=php and than puts directory name before that: /php/index.php?path=php. I read documentation and I realize that it uses internal redirects when per-directory confoguration is used. How can I avoid this behavior?

• Apply email retention policy to Inbox but not subfolders?

  Our official email policy states that email older than 90 days in the Inbox is moved to Deleted Items, not including subfolders of the Inbox. This wasn't a problem to implement in Exchange 2003. In 2010, however, it appears that Policy Tags applied to the Inbox also apply to its subfolders. How can I prevent this from occuring? • MVC, how view should be accessed from controller?

  Hello, I'm just learning MVC so you could find my question rather strange... My Controller have access to different shared objects through Container object passed to Controller's constructor. To access shared objects I should do $this-container-db to access Database adapter or $this-container-memcache to access Memcached adapter. I want to know should I put View object into Container with shared objects or no? From one side it is really comfortable to take view from this container, but this way I couldn't create multiple Views instances (for example, every time I'm calling Controller's method from View I should have one more View instance). What is the solution? How should I pass View object into Controller and/or how should I create new View instances from Controller? Thank you!

  Hello, I'm system administrator in online store. We send several emails to our clients after purchase: confirmation, invoice and sale notification to our staff. Recently we got most of emails bounced back and some bounces describes a reason as greylisting, others - just general failure. It is ruining our business because clients are calling that they didn't get the emails with confirmation and invoices. How to get off greylisting, and to not be greylisted? What actions should we do? • Why can't I install MySQL on my computer?

  I have read a lot of tutorials, but I am still having problems. What I tried: I downloaded mysql-5.5.9-winx64. All that I read says that I can run Setup.exe, but there is no such file in the download. The other option I know there is, is including \mysql-5.5.9-winx64\bin in the PATH variable and then trying to execute the mysql command. When I do that, the error I get is: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) I then downloaded mysql-5.5.9-winx64.msi, which is easier to install, but once I followed the instructions and it was installed, I got the same error executing the mysql command. How can I use MySQL? EDIT: I've now removed everything I installed, and I want to start from scratch.

• XAMPP on windows 7 not working

  Hey there, I just installed XAMPP lite on Windows 7. I have two drives - C: for the OS and regular files, and an external drive E:. I insatlled XAMPP lite on E: (on the root), and its been giving me problems. Apache works well enough, but MySQL doesn't work. When I go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/, it gives me the following error: Error MySQL said: #2003 - Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed. Any ideas as to what could be the problem? I used the zip file for XAMPP lite, the 32 bit version. This is on Windows 7 Home premium. Thanks!

• Error connecting to the application.

  Hi guys, let me explain you the current scenario. We have a asp.net application on framework 2 running on intranet(Windows 2003 Server and Sql Server 2000). Now we have a xp machine where we installed and configured IIS with a virtual directory pointing on the local Xp machine and this machine is connected to our intranet. We have copied the same application files of the server to this XP machine. But the thing is the connection string/database of the application is pointing towards the intranet server. The problem is when we try to run the application on the XP machine we get this error : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Is this query related or concerned with this site or stackoverflow ?

  My client is RDP 6.1 (On Windows XP SP3) and Server is Windows Server 2003. I have installed an SSL certificate on server for RDP. In the RDP settings (General tab), the Encryption method is set to SSL/TLS 1.0 and Encryption level is set to "Client Compatible". I have following questions In this case is it guaranteed that all communication is encrypted even when I remote login to the server? I mean pwd is encrypted Does RDP always use some kind of encryption even if there is no SSL certificate installed on the server? In this case I do not see security lock in the connection bar. When I set encryption level to "High" then I see security lock. I do believe that communication is both cases will be encrypted. Is it true? Please reply to my questions Thanks in advance Kumar

• What are possible reasons why a calendar entry in OWA is at a different time than in Outlook?

  We have two Exchange 2003 servers, our primary server and a front-end server that hosts Outlook Web Access (OWA). When I open my boss' calendar via Outlook 2007 (from my Outlook client as well as hers) I see the event scheduled for 10:30 am. When I open her calendar via Outlook Web Access, the same event is scheduled for 4:30 am. I don't understand Exchange well-enough to imagine how this is possible. If you have any ideas why this could be happening, I greatly appreciate it. I'd also very much appreciate any insight you have to how this could be possible. There must be some cached data on the front-end server that causes the calendar entry to appear at a different time, I suppose. Any insight into how Exchange manages that cache and where I could look for an issue would be very helpful. Thank you!

  As a junior technician I've had to deal with (or will have to deal with) some problems in the past and only being a junior technicain I don't have the confidence or respect from management staff to speak up. For instance, we're having a entirely new system. From Server 2003/XP going to Sevrer 2008 R2/Win7/VMWare/Digital Signage and the current amount of time dedicated to the training of the IT support department currently stands at 0. They seem to think that all it systems are the same and are going to get a bit of shock when I can't help them. I think there;s some UK legislation saying a school/business have to put money and time aside for training, but I'm not sure. What have you had to deal with?

One is for an internal network of 4 PCs and the other is for part of an Internet-facing network. Many times a day, we have to disable the internal NIC in order to get the other NIC to see the network. I know this is happening on a server, but the issue is more related to the conflicts on the NICs. Any suggestions from the community on where to look for a solution?

The link below is a picture about my architecture. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxSXbpgYIZVOR212RVk4ZDN1Sm8.      The pic above shows the architecture right now and it works correctly ! which means I could visit apache with url https//apchehost:8080, could not visit the web app with https served by weblogic but I could visit these app with https served by Apache(Apache is proxy server).      My question is why the Apache is configured with ssl but weblogic without ssl works ? I think weblogic should also configured with ssl . If this works , what about security level ? Is the ssl really works if only Apache configured with ssl but Weblogic without it ? • Copying large Windows directory structure to new server with permissions intact

  I'm soon going to be doing a large migration of an old-school web server that serves mostly ASP pages (currently on a Windows 2003 server) to a newer, virtualized Windows 2008 server. This new server is going to be in a different domain, as well. So I'm copying the root web folder, and all its subfolders and files, to this new server. I'd like to keep permissions intact. It's also pretty massive - I'd like to be able to compress it before transferring to the new server with permissions intact. Any way to do that? And will the new server being in a different AD domain screw with my plans?

However, by default Excel (2003/4 or 2007/8) will read the columns in a "General" format, which occasionally does terrible things like turning "1/2" into "2-Jan". Is there a way to tell Excel never to do this, but always process the values as Text, without going through the format wizard, selecting all of the columns, and doing it manually? Extra points if this works in both Mac and Windows versions of Excel.

  I create a login form to bind to the ldap server, if successful, it creates a session (which the user's username is stored within), then I go to another page that has session_start(); and it works fine. What I want to do now, is add code to test if that user is a member of a specific group. • Reducing storage cost by moving old files to external USB HDDs. Your thoughts?

  I've got about 300GB of pictures and marketing data that is rarely accessed and I'd like to get it off my main storage. I was thinking to simply add two external USB HDDs to the server and move all the files to one of the drives. The second drive would be the backup destination for the first drive. I'm working with Server 2003 R2 SP2. This will help me free a good amount of space on my main storage as well as reduce the complexity, backup window, and usage of my backups to tape.
