• Entity Framework mant to many insert

  I've been playing around with Entity Framework v2 and added some code to insert new entity with many to many relationship , lets say this entity is called meeting. I add hours to meeting : meeting.Hours.Add(hour); and I get different errors on different occasions On Update : Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Meetings_Id', table 'Plan.dbo.MeetingHour'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated. On Inset : An item with the same key has already been added. But the tricky party is that if I add this manually trough SQL Server Management Studio , I can update the entity with the same value , clearing it first (meeting.Hour.Clear()) Can't see what could be the problem , maybe entity model isn't mapped correctly ?

  I'm grabbing a handful of events from an event log in chronological order don't want to pipe to Where want to use get-winevent After I get the Event1, I need to get the 1st instance of another event that occurs some unknown amount of time after Event1. then grab Event3 that occurs sometime after Event2 etc. Basically starting with: $filterXML = @' <QueryList> <Query Id="0" Path="System"> <Select Path="System">*[System[Provider[@Name='Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-General'] and (Level=4 or Level=0) and (EventID=12)]]</Select> </Query> </QueryList> '@ $event1=(Get-WinEvent -ComputerName $PCname -MaxEvents 1 -FilterXml $filterXML).timecreated Give me the datetime of Event1. Then I want to do something like: Get-WinEvent -LogName "System" -MaxEvents 1 -FilterXPath "*[EventData[Data = 'Windows Management Instrumentation' and TimeCreated -gt $event1]]" Obviously the timecreated part bolded there doesn't work but I hope you get what I'm trying to do. any help?

  Hello, I have not been able to find detailed documentation about the Microsoft Flight Simulator SDK, so I have a couple of questions regarding its capabilities. I am currently running FS2004(could buy FSX if needed) and would like to know if I could add moving or static boats through the SDK. Ideally, the boat's position would be controlled by an external program at runtime. Secondly, can i access the flight management system through the SDK? I would like to upload a custom flight path through an external program while the plane is flying. So why the plane would follow the original flight path I would like to be able to change it on the go. Thanks

  I am assigned to a performance-tuning-debugging-troubleshooting task. Scenario: a multi-application environment running on several networked machines using databases. OS is Unix, DB is Oracle. Business logic is implemented across applications using synchronous/asynchronous communication. Applications are multi-user with several hundred call center users at peak time. User interfaces are web-based. Applications are third party, I can get access to developers and source code. I only have the production system and a functional test environment, no load test environment. Problem: bad performance! I need fast results. Management is going crazy. I got symptom examples like these: user interface actions taking minutes to complete. Seaching for a customer usually takes 6 seconds but an immediate subsequent search with same parameters may take 6 minutes. What would be your strategy for finding root causes?

• Sharepoint Foundation 2010 development single machine installation problems

  I'm having problems installing development machine for Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010. This is what I did so far on the same machine: Installed a clean Windows 7 x64 with 4GB of RAM without being part of any domain. Just a simple standalone machine. Enabled IIS related features as described here except IIS6 related ones (two of them) Installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Development Edition (DB Engine and Writer being enabled but not SQL Agent) Installed Visual Studio 2010 Premium Started installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with first extracting files, changing config to enable Windows 7 installation and then installed it as Server Farm (then Complete) to avoid installing SQL Express. Created a separate SPF_CONFIG local user with Logon on as a service right. Opened SPF Management Shell and run New-SPConfigurationDatabase so I am able to use a non-domain username (SPF_CONFIG that I created in the previous step) But all I get is this: The outcome after this error is: Database Sharepoint2010Config is created User SPF_CONFIG is added to SQL Server and attached to this newly created database as dbowner and checking SQL server security logins this user has following rights: dbcreator securityadmin public

• SNMP: ASN.1 MIB Definitions. Referencing a table within a table

  Its's been a while since I've written ASN.1 so.. Our data model is comprised of several table definitions within a table. This is not workable in SNMP, so we need to flatten the definitions. The easiest way to do this would be to have the embedded table indexed by the same OID as the parent table. Thus someTableEntry ::= SEQUENCE { someTableIndex Integer32, someTableDomain Integer32, someTableFooTable SEQUENCE OF SomeTableFooTable } becomes someTableEntry ::= SEQUENCE { someTableIndex Integer32, someTableDomain Integer32, } someTableFooTable ::= SEQUENCE { someTableIndex Integer32, .... } The good thing is that in our application there will NEVER be any kind of SET, GET or GET NEXT so no need for SNMP walk (there are some very good reasons for this that supersede the need for network management elegance. All attributes will be reported via traps only. I think this is a valid SNMP MIB definitions but wanted to get some feedback. Thanks in advance.

• MaxReceivedMessageSize adjusted, but still getting the QuotaExceedException with WCF

  Hey guys, First of all, i have read the "millions" of post on this site and some blogs/forum post on other websites, and no answer is solving my problem. I'm my app, there's a possibility to import a txt or csv file with data. In the case of the error, the file contains 444 rows (file is 14,5 kB). When i try to send it to the server to process it, i get an QuotaExceedException, telling me to increase MaxReceivedMessageSize. So i changed it to a much higher value, but i'm still getting the same exception. I'm using the same exact items for client and server in system.servicemodel in my config file. • PHP: Alternative to SESSIONS

  Hi, I have a PHP application that relies on session variables quite a lot. After login the user get redirected to a page that executes code to set up a load of session variables depending on who the user is. The application is using data from different sources and the sessions are used to store ID numbers to query the databases. So when the user goes to a page that will query their asset management system their ID for that particular database is called via the session. I've had a LOT of problems with session variables recently. Sometimes only one session file is created during the lifetime of the app, and sometimes each session request results in a new session id (still haven't managed to find out why!). My question is this. Is there an alternative to using session variables for this? Like globals or some other way? Any help most appreciated! Regards, Jonesy

• Cases of companies taking IP rights of your own personal projects developed outside company time

  Hi, I have heard of cases where a developer working for a company is also making his own personal projects in his own time, using his own equipment yet the company he works for tries to claim ownership for the project. I really find this annoying, and bang out of order. It should also be illegal. I am in this position (work for a company and working on my own systems - from small class libraries used to practise what I learn in my exam revision to a large commercial-scale system). While I don't know if the company will try to take ownership, all I know is they say they do not want a conflict of interest. Fair enough, my system is developed in my own time using my own equipment. They also say that work time should be for work only, which it is. Funny thing that as work is so boring, easy and slow that I have plenty of free time, which I wish I could spend on something productive - said system. The problem is, my company does not take hiring technical talent seriously. This is my first job, I am a junior coder (but my status/position doesn't really reflect what I can do), but I am the only developer. Likewise with the guy who controls Windows Server. As the contract does not say anything about taking ownership, I would assume they would. They would try to milk my success (I've made a good impression so I am sure they would). How can this be allowed? Are there any examples of this happening to any fellow Stacker here? It really makes my blood boil. What I find funny is that my company hardly has the expertise and resources to even be able to successfully run a project of my size. What I do at work is an ASP.NET application consisting of five pages, and even then there are flaws in the project. If I told them that they would also have to take responsibility for flaws in the project, then they would think twice! It's exactly because of this I save the best code for myself and at work I write rubbish code full of code smells. The company don't really care about error handling, as long as the business functionality works (ie a scheduled email sends, but there is no error handling). They'd think twice when they see the embarassment and business cost of a YSOD...

  Hello, I am coding a simple space empire management game in Visual C# 2008, which relies on connecting to a remote SQL server database to get/store data. I would like the user to be able to connect to a user-specified SQL server from the login screen(he specifies IP address, port, database name, ID, password and presses "connect" button). However, I found out that the Dataset connection string property is read only and cannot be changed. Is there any way to guide the wizard-generated DataSet to a user-specified server at run time?   Hi. I got a wsdl file in email. At first I didn't know how to use it. I've simply saved the file to my disk. Opened visual studio...added a service reference...provided path to file, and service was discovered. I opened the object browser to see the types and methods that got imported. I figure anything that ends with the name 'Client' is a good place to start using the web service. I've tried using a simple method to get data but it has run into and expception. Need help in resolving it. The website I built has its own users management system. The client would like SMF on his website and at the same time when a user is logged into the website they don't need to log into SMF website as well... how can this be done? Or should I just tell the client to consider two separet independant applications in this case i.e forum totally disjoint from the main site?

• Cannot Delete a SQL job.

  Hi, I have disabled log shipping on a SQL 2005 database and deleted the log shipping DB on the secondary server. However i cannot delete the LSRestore_DB___ job, either by T-SQL (sp_delete_log_shipping_primary_secondary, sp_delete_job) or using the management studio on the secondary server. It just wont go. The query keeps on executing for a good 7 hours. Tried disabling, still doesn't delete. Restarted the server too. Also tried the Can anyone help me delete this SQL job please ? Many Thanks

• What HTML is permitted within Flash text fields.

  Hi, Could someone clarify for me what input Flash accepts for its text fields? I am tasked with managing a content management system, this then generates XML which power's flash sites. I have nothing to do with Flash. I work with PHP. Currently we use a rather temperamental Flash Text Editor which is prone to all sorts of troubles. I tried to plug-in tinyMce but it broke the Flash templates. I then recently spoke to someone who said that flash should take any HTML. Now I am confused as this would point to a dodgy template. Can someone clarify. Do Flash text fields handle all HTML or just a limited subset of HTML. If it is the latter, what happens if it comes across a tag it doesn't recognise? • Using Django Admin for a custom database solution

  A client wants to have a simple intranet application to manage his process. He runs a Quarry and wishes to track number of loads delivered per day and associated activities. Since I knew about Django's excellent Admin interface, I figured I could define the "Schema" in models.py and have Django Admin generate the forms. I did exactly that and the result is not bad at all. I've been able to customize the look and feel to suit the client's taste. Some questions: Is Django Admin the right choice for such a use-case? Will I run to problems in the future due to flexibility of the framework? Is there a better framework out there specifically designed for this use-case (general Database management for small businesses)? I prefer ones written in Python since I can hack it up to customize.   How can I systematically determine which jars I'll need, and thus should include in my pom.xml file (I'm using maven as my project management tool)? When learning spring, to keep things simple, added all the jars (even the ones I never used) to the classpath. Right now for the most part, I'm guessing which jars to include.   Hi! Does anyone has some example about accessing Active Directory, LDAP querying using WMI (System.Management namespace) and not System.DirectoryServices namespace. Here on MSDN page it is described a little using CIM classes http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa392320(v=VS.85).aspx But I cant find some C# example realizing it.   My first few attempts at creating a self hosted service. Trying to make something up which will accept a query string and return some text but have have a few issues: All the documentation talks about endpoints being created automatically for each base address if they are not found in a config file. This doesn't seem to be the case for me, I get the "Service has zero application endpoints..." exception. • Getting weird python error when I run a simple django script in Eclipse, not happening in console

  I am running a basic script that sets up the django environment by itself, to enable me to test the ORM features of django without having to implement web pages. The script then imports one of the types defined in my models. This error doesn't happen when I run this script from iPython, only from eclipse.   I'm looking to run some powershell scripts via automation. What are some good options for getting around this problem?
