• My sound stopped working today, how can I fix it?

  This seems to be a problem with pulseaudio. I was logged in over VNC on my phone and started playing a video this caused X to crash (as sometimes happens). I restarted and suddenly the sound doesn't work. I have a Intel HDA/Realtek ALC889 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller alsamixer is detecting this just fine. PulseAudio doesn't detect this alsa device so is using auto_null as the default sink (logs below). When I properly kill PulseAudio (tell it not to auto-start) direct ALSA communication with the sound card works just fine. speaker-test, for example, works. So the hardware and ALSA layers are fine IMO. In the logs, it seems that the card might be "busy" but I really don't know how or why it would be now (and never before). Is there an ALSA lock file somewhere that it still there because of my crash? I just ran sudo fuser /dev/snd/* and saw this: oli@bert:~$ sudo fuser /dev/snd/* /dev/snd/controlC0: 1884 /dev/snd/pcmC0D0c: 1884m /dev/snd/timer: 1884 A look at the process list (ps aux | grep 1884) tells me process 1884 is arecord -c 1 -f S16_LE -r 8000 -t raw. No idea what this is or why it's running. When I try and kill arecord (as root), it just respawns and rebinds on the hardware. I'm in a very annoying situation where I don't know what is going on and don't know how to find out. I'm open to all suggestions to get this working again. Fire away. • Is there a Novatel Wireless Modem Emulator or something similar?

  Novatel Wireless provides their NovaCore SDK for developers wishing to interface with their line of modems. I'm currently developing an open source managed wrapper for it, but I'm having difficulties with testing. I own a Novatel MiFi and have mobile broadband service through Sprint, but that can only get me so far. The device is already activated, thus I can't test the network activation features of the NovaCore SDK. There are also certain features only available for HSPA modems, which I am not able to get in my area. Is there an emulator capable of emulating a Novatel Wireless modem so that I can test my library without physical hardware and an actual data connection? If not, do you have any other suggestions that might help in this situation? I've contacted Novatel Wireless via email and their developer forum, but have not received a response. Thanks!

  This has been discussed on StackOverflow before - I am trying to find a good way to find the absolute path of a file object, but I need it to be robust to os.chdir(), so cannot use f = file('test') os.path.abspath(f.name) Instead, I was wondering whether the following is a good solution - basically extending the file class so that on opening, the absolute path of the file is saved: class File(file): def __init__(self, filename, *args, **kwargs): self.abspath = os.path.abspath(filename) file.__init__(self, filename, *args, **kwargs) Then one can do f = File('test','rb') os.chdir('some_directory') f.abspath # absolute path can be accessed like this Are there any risks with doing this?

• Running Perl Scripts on servers that don't have the modules

  I need to run a perl script to gather system information that will be deployed and executed on different unix servers. Right now I am writing it and testing it, and I'm receiving this error. Can't locate XML/DOM.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib64/perl5 /usr/local/share/perl5 /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib64/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 .) at test.pl line 7. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at test.pl line 7. So I am simply using XML::DOM which should be part of Perl but it isn't for this version on this particular server which is 5.10.1. Anyways, is there a way I can create and design my script and package modules into it while keeping the .pl extension, which is the requirement for this script?

  Dear Devs I have a wcf service deployed on IIS with basicHttpBinding and aspNetCompatibilityEnabled=true I have a test client as well which invokes multiple service functions simultaneously. To check the performance of service call on client and server I calculated the Avg time it takes to complete a service request on client(in proxy code) and on server as well. after a test of 8 hrs (server and client were on the same machine) i came to know that average response time on client is around 34ms where as the Avg execution time on server is around 3ms so the difference is 31ms. I would like to know why every call is taking 31ms is it justified? and how can i reduce this?

• Speed up compilation with mockito on Android

  I am currently developing an android app in eclipse using: One project for the app One project for the tests (Instrumentation and Pojo tests) In the test project, I am importing the mockito library for standard POJO testing. However, when I import the library, the compilation time skyrockets from 1 second to about 30 seconds in eclipse. The cause seems to be that the whole library is converted each time. So basically, each time a make a modification that I want to test, I have to wait 30 seconds. The only workarounds that I have found so far would be: Disable "Build Automatically" Create a project that includes only pojo tests and put mockito only there. Use another library that compiles faster (e.g. easymock) Any other suggestion?

• jQuery width() returns 0 for a span element created on the fly?

  Hi, I'm trying to determine the width of a string. I'm using the following code but it always return 0. It seems to be that as the span element is created and not already present in the page body, jQuery width() returns 0. Is there a way such that I can get the width of the text without resorting to creating dummy html code in the page? • Function returns CSV File: How to go about checking it ?

  I am doing something like: $outputFile = getCurrentDBSnapshot($data); where $data is the resource stream that am passing in, basically from command prompt am passing an file and am opening it using fopen for writing with 'w+' permissions, now getCurrentDBSnapshot would get the current state of a table and would update the $data csv file, so basically $outputFile would be updated with the current state of database table, now I want to var_dump or print the value of $outputFile to see the data present into it. But when I do $this->fout = fopen($outputFile,'r') or die('Cannot open file'); $test = fgetcsv($outputFile,5000,":"); var_dump($test); It gives me an error saying that it expects parameter 1 to be a string type and am passing resource. My goal to see the contains of $outputFile and so my question is that How can I see the contains present in $outputFile or how can I see what getcurrentDBSnapshot function is returning me ?

• whmcs emails problem

  I am testing out the order process for a test webhost package I have already setup in whmcs. I have it set to automatically setup product upon first payment. When the order goes completes whmcs sends out only four emails to the new customer: "Order Confirmation", "Customer Invoice", "Invoice Payment Confirmation" and "Welcome". It does not send out a "New Account Information" email, which should contain the login details for cpanel. I can successfully log into the client area but not cPanel. I checked the account from my administrator area and I see where it says active and paid also. I have tried several times to setup a test account to see if it would send the email with the cpanel login but it never sends it, though it sends all others. Reply With Quote

• How to call a JavaScript function from one frame to another in Chrome/Webkit with file protocol

  I have developed an application that has a list of items in one frame; when one clicks on an item it does something in another frame (loads an image). This used to work fine in all browsers, including Chrome 3; now it still works fine in Firefox but in recent versions of Chrome (I believe since 4) it throws this error: Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL (...) from frame with URL (...). Domains, protocols and ports must match. This is obviously a security "feature" but is it possible to get around it? Here is a simple test: index.html: <html> <frameset cols="50%,50%"> <frame src="left.html" name="left"/> <frame src="right.html" name="right"/> </frameset> </html> left.html: <html> <body> <a href="javascript:parent.right.test('hello');">click me</a> </body> </html> right.html: <html> <body> <script> function test(msg) { alert(msg); } </script> </body> </html> The above works in Firefox 3.6 and Chrome 3 but in Chrome 5 it throws the above error... Edit: added the @cols attribute to the frameset element in fact it works in Chrome if and only if the pages are served with the http protocol (and from the same domain) but my problem is when pages are local and served from a file:// protocol. Then it works in Firefox (all versions) and Chrome 3 but not Chrome 5 (I don't have Chrome 4 so I'm not shure about that specific version (and don't know if it's even possible to download a specific Chrome version?) -- but for Chrome 5 I'm very sure it doesn't work).

  I work on a project where we have to create unit tests for all of our simple beans (POJOs). Is there any point to creating a unit test for POJOs if all they consist of is getters and setters? Is it a safe assumption to assume POJOs will work about 100% of the time? Duplicate of - Should @Entity Pojos be tested? • Netbeans 6.8 groovy files in src/main/java

  I have a new netbeans maven/groovy project, and I actually prefer to mix my java and groovy files in src/main/java and src/test/java (I find it easier to navigate this way and my pom reflects this configuration). However, when I have my project setup this way in Netbeans 6.8, it always shows the generated-sources folder in error. The stubs generated from groovy files in src/test/java can't be opened by netbeans and given an error that they can't be parsed. However, in windows explorer the files are in tact. Netbeans can run the project but it continues to prompt me that some files are in error (even though I know they're not). It's like netbeans isn't refreshing itself. Any thoughts on how to fix this? thanks, Jeff

  Ok, I am like other and new to jUnit and having a difficult time trying to get it working. I have searched the forum but the answers provided; I am just not getting. If anyone out there could lend me a hand I would greatly appreciate it. • Outlook VBA - Find & Replace Incoming Emails

  Good morning everyone at Stackoverflow, I am trying to find a VBA script that finds and replaces a certain text in incoming e-mails. So far i've been unable to find such a script that is working. I found several scripts to find and replace stuff in the e-mail but these don't work as a rule on incoming e-mails, they only work on outgoing / creating e-mails. Does anyone have such a script that they can share with me? I would like to find & replace a certain text on every incoming e-mail. I would really apreciate it! • Setting up gcov in Xcode 3.1

  I'm trying to setup my Xcode project to be instrumented with gcov so I can determine the code coverage of my unit tests. All of the documentation I find online talks about settings that I don't find in Xcode 3.1, though. An example: To work with Coverstory, first you need to set up your target to work with gcov. This requires turning on "Instrument Program Flow", "Generate Test Coverage Files" and linking with the gcov library. (Using Coverstory) The closest thing I can find to "Instrument Program Flow" and "Generate Test Coverage Files" in my build settings is "Generate Profiling Code", which doesn't appear to do what I want it to do. Am I looking in the wrong place for these settings or are all of the examples I'm finding online stale?

  I'm encountering a very weird problem with Spring (3.0.1.RELEASE), TestNG (5.11) and Maven Surefire (2.5). I have a test class that extends a Spring helper class for testNG so that test context can be loaded from an xml file (that contains some bean definitions). My project was imported into eclipse using m2eclipse (using Import Maven Project) The class run fine in Eclipse TestNG runner. However, it throws this exception with Maven Surefire Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl cannot be cast to javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory at javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(DocumentBuilderFactory.java:123) at org.springframework.beans.factory.xml.DefaultDocumentLoader.createDocumentBuilderFactory(DefaultDocumentLoader.java:89) at org.springframework.beans.factory.xml.DefaultDocumentLoader.loadDocument(DefaultDocumentLoader.java:70) at org.springframework.beans.factory.xml.XmlBeanDefinitionReader.doLoadBeanDefinitions(XmlBeanDefinitionReader.java:388) I have eliminated all involved dependencies in my pom so that the two classes com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl and javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory are coming from JRE only (the rt.jar). So, it looks so unbelievable to me. I wonder if there is any mechanism in loading class that can explain for this behavior? Thanks.

  Hallo, i have a txt file which contains many chinese characters, and the txt file is in the directory res/raw/test.txt. I want to read the file but somehow i can't make the chinese characters displayed correctly. • Visual Studio's CSS Intellisense - Absolute paths & MasterPage files

  Hi there. I've noticed that to get CSS-Intellisense working in VS, the paths have to be relative - Is this the case? However, it seems <link href="/resources/test.css" [...] /> is far more practical than <link href="resources/test.css" [...] /> I'm including the CSS in the master page, and don't see much good in including it as a content block, just to get the relative paths correct for each directory depth. I've had a quick try with inline code resolving the path, but no dice there either (for Intellisense). I feel I'm missing something fairly simple - What's the correct approach here to have CSS Intellisense work across the pages in the app during dev, and render fine in any deployed state? Cheers. • ASP.NET MVC 2 relative paths for scripts and styles

  Hi, having this really silly problem in ASP.NET MVC 2 with .NET 4. I need to test other pages using localhost, but sometimes I need to show the page to some else on another computer and so need to path out to my machine. In doing so, I need to use relative paths for my and tags. When I test through VS, I use relative path: <script src="../../Scripts/somejavascript.js"></script> <link href="../../Styles/somestyle.css" /> However, when I publish to local IIS, I'm having all sorts of problems beacuse the Scripts and Styles folder are at the same directory level, but it seems like I have to path out differently. For example, in the scenario above the styles will be picked up but the JavaScript won't be. Any ideas on how best to path out, relatively using MVC 2?

  Is it possible to retrieve the complete message source (similar tu Unix Mbox format) using Zend_Mail_Storage_Pop3 from the Zend Framework? I'm using the following code to retrieve messages: $mail = new Zend_Mail_Storage_Pop3(array('host' => 'localhost', 'user' => 'test', 'password' => 'test')); echo $mail->countMessages() . " messages found\n"; foreach ($mail as $message) { echo "Mail from '{$message->from}': {$message->subject}\n"; } It looks like the $mail object contains the message already split up into fields (ie. headers, contents, etc.). Is there any way to retrieve the original message source? I would like to be able to store it so if I need to parse the message again using a different tool, I will have the necessary information.
