• Deploying xbap in a full trust mode

  I have xbap which needs to run on a full trust mode because my application needs to upload a file from the client machine to process. I have to provide a installation steps to install. If i do it as a click one instillation, do i still get a security error? If so what is the best way to resolve it? If i install it in remote server, I saw couple of options in internet like creating certificates and ask user to import this certificate. Other option is to ask the user to allow access to xbap applications which provides access to all xbap applications (not so good). what is best way? It would be really great, if some could provide me the installation steps for both scenarios.

• Installing .NET 3.5 SP1 on server broke WCF

  I installed .NET 3.5 SP1 on server which previously had .NET 3.0 SP2. Before install site was working perfectly. After install and subsequeny server restart, site displays but anything that makes use of the WCF service has stopped working. The exception log reports exceptions like the following when any calls are made to the client proxy: The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel, cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state. The server's application event log gave the following errors after the install: Configuration section system.serviceModel.activation already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. Configuration section system.runtime.serialization already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. Configuration section system.serviceModel already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. which seems to be inline with the fact that anything WCF related has stopped working. I am not experienced in server configurations or WCF so looking for any assistance with this. Thanks!! • Running Jetty 7 server in eclipse?

  I'm trying to set up Eclipse to run and deploy my projects to a Jetty 7 server (the oldest version available from http://download.eclipse.org/jetty/). I've downloaded Jetty 7 and unpacked it, and I've installed the Jetty plugin from the available server adapters list, but when I try to configure a new Jetty server, the server type list only contains "Jetty 6".   Hello all, I am aware that _beginthreadex is part of the MSCVRT functions and therefore not accessible via Cygwin/MinGW uintptr_t _beginthreadex( void *security, unsigned stack_size, unsigned ( __stdcall *start_address )( void * ), void *arglist, unsigned initflag, unsigned *thrdaddr ); However, _beginthreadex does call upon CreateThread(). HANDLE CreateThread( LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttr, SIZE_T stackSize, LPTHREAD_START_ROUTINE threadFunc, LPVOID param, DWORD flags, LPDWORD threadID ); However, does anyone have a wrapper or a URL to a library that is compatible with Cygwin/WinGW. Or can offer some advice? As this is the last little piece of moving from VSutdio Project over to makefiles for Windows/Darwin/Linux. Thanks.

• Flexbuilder won't launch...arrrgh!

  In a panic since I'm trying to meet a deadline so appreciate any feedback on this. For some reason, Flexbuilder 3 on my mac won't launch, crashes on startup. I've never experienced this before. Checked the .log file and what seems to be the problem is the following /Users/foo/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#Security/FlashPlayerTrust/flexbuilder.fbr (No such file or directory) WTF is the flexbuilder.fbr??? Googled but not much luck. The only thing I've done that might have caused this is change flash player versions system wide using the official flash player uninstaller...but obviously this should not happen Any feedback appreciated...

There are a number of questiosn on StackOverflow that ALMOST hit this topic head on, but they are either for other technologies, reference obsolets information or don;t supply an answer that I can suss out. So pardon the almost duplication :) I have a working ADO.NET Data Service, and a WPF client that hits it. Now that they are working fine I want to add authentication / security to the system. My understanding of the steps so far is... Turn on forms authentication and configure it on the server (I have an existing asp.net membership service DB for other aspects of this app, so that isnt a problem) so that it is required for the service URL In WCF apply for and recieve a forms authentication "ticket" as part of a login routine Add that "ticket" to the headers of the ADO.NET service calls in WPF Profit! All well and good - but does anyone have a line on a soup to nuts code sample, using the modern releases of these technologies? Thanks!

  Smashed my head against this a bit too long. How do I prevent a user from browsing a site's pages after they have been logged out using FormsAuthentication.SignOut? I would expect this to do it: FormsAuthentication.SignOut(); Session.Abandon(); FormsAuthentication.RedirectToLoginPage(); But it doesn't. If I type in a URL directly, I can still browse to the page.   Hi, I am developing an application suite where users will need to connect to a server and depending on their account type they will be given some services. The server will run Linux. Can you please suggest me some user management API which I can use to develop the server program? By user management I mean user authentication and other related functionalities. I prefer to work in C++ or python, but any other language should not be a problem. Please note that this application suite is not web based. • "Requested registry access is not allowed." on Windows 7 / Vista

  I'm attempting to write a key to Registry. It works on Windows XP, but fails on Windows 7 / Vista. The code below throws a Security Exception with description "Requested registry access is not allowed." RegistryKey regKey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\\App_Name\\" + subKey, true); I realise that this has to do with the UAC settings, but I couldn't figure out an ideal workaround. I don't want to fork out another process, and may be don't even want to request for any credentials. Just want it to work the same way as on Windows XP. I have modified the manifest file and removed requestedExecutionLevel node. This seems to do the trick. Is there any other possible workaround, and are there any serious flaws with the "manifest" solution?

• Building Eclipse RCP application, running fails

  Hi, after successfully building my application the start fails because it relies on config files which are located in the META-INF directory and after the build this directory is zipped into a jar file, hence making it unable to access the config files. After manually unzipping the jar, deleting the jar and renaming the directory with xxx.jar the program runs without a problem. The config files are needed for SSO login (Kerberos). Here is the code: Bundle bundle = Platform.getBundle(Application.PLUGIN_ID); String path; try { path = new URL(bundle.getLocation().substring(18)).getPath(); } catch (MalformedURLException e1) { System.out.println(e1); path=""; } System.setProperty("java.security.auth.login.config",path+"META-INF/jaas-win.config"); Path variable contains something like "plugin/mydomain.pluginame-xxxx.jar/" But it seems that the System needs the jar unzipped.   I have a Class Library, which inside just has a DataSet (MySQL connector) and a Connector class. I use this class in multiple projects to connect to the database, and I always had the password embedded in the connection string but now I need to be able to modify this string(for security purposes) so I can have the user connect using their own account. How can I modify this connection string. I have tried the following Properties.Settings.Default.DataBaseConnectionString = "String"; But it seems that the connection string is readonly becase it doesn't appear to have a setter value. • Cannot get NLogViewer to receive msgs from local machine

  I cannot get NLogViewer to receive msgs from local machine. My machine is Windows 7. I am able to get a remote machine to send NLog messages to my local box and NLogViewer on my local box shows the message fine. But, if I run an app locally, and config NLog to spit messages to my local box, NLogViewer doesn't get the messages. • How can I use the SSRS ReportViewer from VS 2008 in a VS2010 project?

  Hi, I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC 2 / .NET 3.5 project which includes SSRS 2008 reports. After migrating to VS 2010 RC, the new web forms report viewer has been giving so much trouble that I'd like to use the old report viewer from VS 2008 again. Now I'm just wondering what would be the easiest way to do that. The report viewer is embedded in a Webforms ASPX file which is loaded in an IFrame by the the MVC view. Report parameters are currently stored as session variables, and for security reasons I would prefer not to change that for HTTP POST or GET parameters. So I can't just put the report viewer in a separate application and build that with VS2008. Moving the entire project back to VS 2008 is not an option. So, what's the easiest way for me to use the VS 2008 ReportViewer in VS 2010? Is there way to grab an assembly from VS 2008 and use that in my project? Thanks, Adrian

• Logging exceptions in WCF with IErrorHandler inside HandleError or ProvideFault?

  I'm using IErrorHandler to do exception handling in WCF and now I want to log the exceptions, along with the stack trace and the user that caused the exception. I've read everywhere to put the logging in the HandleError method, and not the ProvideFault method. My question is, why? The only way I can see to get the user that caused the exception is: OperationContext.Current.IncomingMessageProperties.Security.ServiceSecurityContext.PrimaryIdentity ...But this only seems to work inside ProvideFault, and not inside HandleError. Is there a way to get the user inside HandleError?

• JMF Registry could not add item (Vista)

  Hello, I'm using JMF to capture video stream (webcam) on my Java project. The camera I'm using is recognized by JMF (JFMStudio) and I manage to get the video stream. However, on JMF Registry Editor - there's a list of available capture devices, when I click "Add" on one of the items (including the one I need) I get a "Could not add item" error. Therefore this camera is not set in the registry of it (god know where) and later on it is not recognized by my project: RGBFormat fmt = new RGBFormat(); // could be YUV - doesn't matter Vector v = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(fmt); v is empty (while I know the video source is recognized by Java , since I manage to get video on JMF Studio). Now, this happens only on Vista (where else) and not on XP. I have a suspiction that somehow Vista security blocks Java from writing the registry file, but of course, I might be wrong. One more comments: this is vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture(Win32):0 device. Any idea ?

  Is anyone aware of of anybody offering hosted perforce servers? It doesn't have to be free - but preferably not too expensive! My understanding of Perforce is that it's free to use for personal projects, which mine is. Currently I have a perforce server setup on the same machine as the code is on which doesn't offer much security in case of computer failure. If not, can anyone recommend one of the alternative solutions that is similar to Perforce? I have experience of SVN but cannot say I enjoy the experience.

  My goal is to deploy a simple rails application on a windows server using the glassfish gem. I have no trouble getting the glassfish gem to work with regular http, however I now need to add SSL security and I cannot find any links on how to enable https in the glassfish gem. Has anyone succeeded in setting up the glassfish gem to support SSL? Are there any other ways to serve a rails application over SSL on windows without any additional software installation (e.g. IIS, Glassfish, jBoss)?

  Hello: I am designing a report that will be used in local mode (an RDLC file) in a Winform app. I have a custom assembly with a static class that has some functions that I want to use inside of the report (as expressions). I have found all sorts of help for doing this with RDL reports, but I'm running into a permissions problem with my RDLC report. I get the following error at runtime: "The report references the code module (my module), which is not a trusted assembly". I know that this is some kind of a code security issue, but I'm not sure what to do to fix it. The documentation that I have seen online is aimed at RDL reports, and it instructs me to edit a SQL Server-specific policy file. I'm using RDLC, so there is no sql server involved. What do I need to do to acquire the appropriate permissions?
