  • Interconnection between 2 computers in different networks.

    Hi, What I want is to connect 2 computers (work and personal) primary for using a software KVM (Input Director or Synergy). Transferring files between them would be a plus. The main issue is that the work computer is in a secured enterprise network, and my personal computer is using a 3G+ modem for Internet access. On the work computer I do not have Internet access (only local network). I want to somehow connect them without to mess up either networks. I want my personal computer to not be seen in the work network. Is it possible? Suggestions: - use a simple UTP cable to connect the 2 computers with each other. Can they each be in both 2 networks without issues? - use some kind of usb cable, if exists

  • permanently mount multiple directories from different disks under root [on hold]

    I have SSD and HDD. Some directories like /var /srv /tmp should be on hdd while /boot /usr /lib on ssd. But do I have to create separate partition for every single directory? i want to have 2 or so partitions. one for each disk and distribute directories as needed. is it possible? and how? i've heard about symlinks, mount --bind, mhddfs but: symlinks are treated differently by tools like cp so i'm not sure if it's safe to have main system directories symlinked i have no idea how can I use mount --bind or mhddfs in fstab

  • JQuery-code on different content pages

    Hello, I have a site with menu, which reloads content. Content is dynamically loadable, using ajax and php-script. At different content pages I need in different jquery-plugins. But If I'm writing including need plugin directly in some content page, I get a big lags during loading. So, now I'm includgin all plugins into main page... And it's not the best idea... Any suggestion? UPD: I have a div with content. Content is shown with effects (rolling up/down). When part of menu is clicked, I'm sending ajax-responce to the php script, which reads need text from database and returns it to the main page, from which I sent the responce. Than I'm pasting that content into a div and roll id down. So I'll include jquery-plugins in content pages, the animation of rolling will'nt be normal.

  • Configure different set of keyboard shortcuts for copy/paste in Photoshop (WIN)

    Being left-handed, I use the mouse in my left hand. In most applications I use Ctrl + Insert or Shift + Insert to copy and paste (with my right hand). For some bone-headed reason, this is not supported in Photoshop, so I have to use right-click Copy sub-menus, which is a lot slower. Is there a way to configure Photoshop to use Ctrl + Insert to copy and Shift + Insert to paste? EDIT: I tried editing keyboard shortcuts, but it will not accept CTRL + INSERT as a valid entry. Is there no valid option for left-handed users?

  • mirroing hard drives of different sizes

    I have a dell server with two 18 gig drives in a Raid 1 config. I want to replace the drives with 400 gig drives. If I break the mirror and then remove one of the 18g drives, insert a 400g and create the mirror, then do the same process again with the other 400g drive, what will I have? I would like to think I would have a new 400g raid 1 drive. But I seem to remember that this process might result in only 18g of useable space on the 400g drives. Anyone know for sure? Thank

  • GWT: how to have different styles for splitters in different SplitLayoutPanels?

    I know you can change the styles of the splitters with the defaults styles listed in the docs: .gwt-SplitLayoutPanel .gwt-SplitLayoutPanel-HDragger { horizontal dragger } .gwt-SplitLayoutPanel .gwt-SplitLayoutPanel-VDragger { vertical dragger } and we've done that in earlier development. However, now I'm developing new stuff and would like to use a different style for the splitters in a new SplitLayoutPanel. Unfortunately, we haven't or can't split the app into different modules, which might make this easier. I tried creating a new style and applying it to my new SplitLayoutPanel, but it didn't appear to have any effect on the splitters. I thought there might be a method to get a handle on the splitters in order to apply the new style to only them, but I didn't find any such method.

    So I've found similar questions but none that answer all the questions I have and I know there must be a simple jQuery answer to this. I've got multiple images that are being dynamically placed in their own containing div that have overflow:hidden, they need to fill their containing divs and be centered(horizontally and vertically) also. The containing divs will be different sizes as well. So in short: multiple different sized images fill and center in containing div. containing divs will be different sizes. will be used multiple times on a page.     As I know, maps.google.com or mail.google.com all comes under the same domain and its all are subdomain. Entire web treats these subdomain as the part of main domain and they have same Alexa rank, PageRank and all. But in another hand, take a look on blogspot.com/wordpress.com/webs.com; these are different sites but blogs or websites under those domains are treated as different sites. Its new URL, all have different PageRank and Alexa rank as well. Tts about millions of subdomains under those few domain, have almost similar IP address, hosting and CMS, still why they are called different domains?

  • SEO for images: can I use a different (cookieless) domain?

    Hello, We want to increase the value of some of our important images by means of SEO, and we want to start serving them from a different, i.e. cookieless, domain. We want to go from http://www.example.com/images/1234.jpg to http://www.example.com/germany/bavaria/landscape.jpg which can easily be done via URL rewriting. Then on the other hand, we would like to serve the image from a completely different domain, let's say http://www.examplestatic.com/germany/bavaria/landscape.jpg, to save the overhead of sending the cookie from www.example.com. Somehow I feel that this is not a good idea because I move the image away from the content by putting it on a different domain. Can anyone shed some light on this problem? Naturally, I would just use a different subdomain, e.g. img.example.com, but we already use subdomains for languages and our cookies are valid for all subdomains of example.com, so this won't help.     Our company Coscend has built a Web portal-based communications and cloud collaboration platform by using JavaScript (JS), which is embedded in HTML5 and formatted with CSS3. Other technologies used in the core code include Flash, Flex, PostgreSQL and MySQL. Our team would like to host this platform on five different Windows and Linux environments that run different types of Web servers such as IIS and Apache. Technical challenge: Each of these Windows and Linux servers have a different host name and domain name (and IP address), but we would like to keep our enterprise platform independent of host server configuration. Possible approach to solution: We think an API (interface module with a GUI) is needed to accomplish this level of modularity and flexibility while deploying at our enterprise customers. Seeking your insights: In this context, our team would appreciate your guidance on: Is there an algorithmic method to implement this Web portal-based platform in these Windows and Linux environments while separating it from server configuration, i.e., customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? For example, would it be suitable to create some JS variables / objects for host name and domain name and call them in the different implementations? If a reference to the host/domain names occurs on hundreds of portal modules, these variables or JS objects would replace that. If so, what is the best way to make these object modules written in JS portable and re-usable across different environments and instances for enterprise customers? Here is an example of the implemented code for the said platform. The following Web site (www.CoscendCommunications.com) was built using this enterprise collaboration platform and has the base code examples of the platform. This Web site is domain-specific. We like to make the underlying platform such that it is domain and host-independent. This will allow the underlying platform to be deployed in multiple instances of our enterprise customers.

  • Java desktop programmer starting to learn Android development: how different is it?

    I'm a Java programmer. All of my experience is on desktop applications, using Swing for the GUI. I spend a lot of time studying OOP, I have decent understanding of OO concepts and I design and program by the OO approach. I'm thinking of starting to learn Android development soon, and I'm wondering how different it is from desktop development. Obviously the GUI libraries will be different (not Swing), but other than that, I want to know if there are significant differences. I will divide this question to two parts: Apart from the GUI libraries, am I still going to use the standard Java libarary I'm used to? Aka same data structues, same utility classes, etc.? If not, what are the main differences between the libraries I'm used to and the libraries I'll be using? How different is Android development in regard to OO design? Are all of the familiar principles, design patterns, techniques and best pratices just as valid and used? Or is OOP and OOD in Android development significantly different than OO in desktop development? To summarize: apart from GUI design, how different is Java Android development than Java desktop development?

  • Windows Phone 7 v. Windows 8 Metro &ldquo;Same but Different&rdquo;

    I have been doing development on both the Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8 Metro style applications over the past month and have really been enjoying doing both. What is great is that Silverlight is used for both development platforms. What is frustrating is the "Same but Different" nature of both platforms. Many similar services and ways of doing things are available on both platforms, but the objects, namespaces, and ways of handling certain cases are different. I almost had a heart attack when I thought that XmlDocument had been removed from the new WinRT. I was relived (but a little annoyed)  when I found out that it had shifted from the "System.Xml" namespace to the "Windows.Data.Xml.Dom" namespace. In my opinion this is worse than deprecating and reintroducing it since there isn't the lead time to know that the change is coming, maker changes and adjust. I also think the breaks the compatibility that is advertised between the WinRT and .NET framework from a programming perspective, as the code base will have to be physically different if compiled for one platform versus the other. Which brings up another issue, the need for separate DLLs with for the different platforms that contain the same C# code behind them which seems like the beginning of a code maintenance headache. Historically, I have kept source files "co-located" with the projects that they are compiled into. After doing some research, I think I will end up keeping "common" files that need to be compiled in to DLLs for the different platforms in a seperate location in TFS, not directly included in any one Visual Studio project, but added as links in the project that would get compiled into the windows 7 phone, or Windows 8. This will work fine, except for the case where dependencies don't line up for each platform as described above, but will work fine for base classes that do the raw work at the most basic programming level.

  • UISplitView show different views in the detail pane

    How can I change the view in the Details pane of the UISplitView so that its a completely different view? Im having a fair amount of trouble understanding how its all wired up and where things should go at the moment, could someone please enlighten me? What I would love to be able to do is to show a specific view based on what the user has selected in the UITableView on the left pane (this view could be an image, or a more complex view of a news article, etc... many different options) then when the user turns the iPad into portrait view, that view that was in the details pane changes to be its equivalent portrait view version. Does this make sense? How on earth would I do that? Just to brainstorm, here is what I was thinking: Create a Split View project Create 2 NIBs for each view: (with accompanying view controllers???) * PortraitNewsStory * LandscapeNewsStory * PortraitImageBrowser * LandscapeImageBrowser * etc... Create a UISplitView control using XCode Capture when a user rotates the iPad (should this be done in the RootViewController.m ?) Change the view of the DetailViewController how should I do this? profit??? Thanks Mark

  • Crystal report subreport parameter autobinding logic feeds duplicate parameters to different subrepo

    I have a report, and I place the same subreport within the footer twice. The report has three parameters and the subreport has four parameters. When I try to run the report through the report designer, it prompts me for seven parameters instead of the eleven I was hoping for. It prompts for one set of parameters for the subreport (with a default prompt of @parameter(subreport.rpt)/@parameter(subreport.rpt - 01), and passes the same set of parameters to both subreports. This isn't what I want the report to do. Furthermore, if I look at 'show report parameters', it does show eleven parameters, with the same value for both subreport parameter sets. So it knows that it's two different subreports, but it does not want to let me enter it that way. Is there some way I can make crystal designer realize that it should take different values for each subreport? The only solution I've found is to add 8 more parameters, one for each subreport / subreport parameter combination, and bind them individually. It works, but it feels like a workaround. Does anyone have a better solution?

    In a C++ program I have two classes (structs) like struct A { int x; double y; // other members }; struct B { int x; double y2; // other members }; I'd like to somehow "bind" the corresponding members, e.g. A::x to B::x and A::y to B::y2. By "bind" I mean ability to obtain a reference to the bound variable, for example given a member of class A I could assign it to the value of the corresponding B member. Once I have such bind, I'd like to build a bind table or something similar which I could iterate over. This would allow, for example, copying the corresponding fields from A a; to B b; like CopyBound(a, b, bind_table);, but probably also doing some other things not limited to Copy interface. The problem with this bind_table is that I want static typing and the bind_table would have to contain different types in this case. For example, a table of pointers to class members would contain &A::x and &A::y, but they are of different type, so I cannot just put them say into an array. Any ideas how this can be conveniently implemented, having as much compile-time type checking as possible?

    Good day everyone! I’m trying to understand how buffer overflow works. I’m doing this for my project in a computer security course I’m taking. Right now, I’m in the process of determining the address of the function’s return address which I’m supposed to change to perform a buffer overflow attack. I’ve written a simple program based from an example I’ve read in the internet. What this program does is it creates an integer pointer that will be made to point to the address of the function return address in the stack. To do this, (granted I understand how a function/program variables get organized in the stack), I add 8 to the buffer variable’ address and set it as the value of ret. I’m not doing anything here that would change the address contained in the location of func’s return address. here's the program: Output of the program when gets excecuted: As you can see, I’m printing the address of the variables buffer and ret. I’ve added an additional statement printing the value of the ret variable (supposed location of func return address, so this should print the address of the next instruction which will get executed after func returns from execution). Here is the dump which shows the supposed address of the instruction to be executed after func returns. (Underlined in green) As you can see, that value is way different from the value printed contained in the variable ret. My question is, why are they different? (of course in the assumption that what I’ve done are all right). Else, what have I done wrong? Is my understanding of the program’s runtime stack wrong? Please, help me understand this. My project is due nextweek and I’ve barely touched it yet. I’m sorry if I’m being demanding, I badly need your help.

The canvas is inside a scrollviewer, the following image shows different positions of the canvas, however the lines should look the same? Hell, how is this possible? The code above is the only code I've written by hand and it's the only content in the canvas. Anyone knows why this happens and how to prevent this? Thank you very much!   • How do I show information to users belonging to different groups (web) in modx

    Hello Everyone, I have created a website using modx evolution v1.0.2. The website that I have developed has 12 different types of users (categorized in groups). Each user will be shown a different price depending on the group to which he belongs. Till now I have been able to fetch the group name of current logged in user (created a snippet for that), but how can I achieve the above mentioned functionality so that each user should be able to see only the price that I have coded according to his group. For example: If a user is associated with the 'ocassional' group then he should be shown the price as , say, 50 bucks and if a user is associated with the 'regular' group then he should be shown the price as, say, 40 bucks I can easily do this by coding a single snippet for every product's variant, but there are a lot of variants (more than 100 and growing). I have created a resource(page) for every product and it's variant. Every variant has a price. It is this price that I want to be shown according to the logged in user group membership. I hope I am able to explain my query clearly. Please help me do this functionality. Thanks

    On my laptop, with Apache I have different web apps in various directories on my laptop, that I can start using simple webservers listening on different ports. For example ~/app1/./app.pl >> listening on http://localhost:3000/ ~/app2/./app.pl >> listening on http://localhost:3001/ ~/app3/./app.pl >> listening on http://localhost:3001/ I want to access the above from my browser like so http://localhost/app1 http://localhost/app2 http://localhost/app3 Can I do the above with mod_proxy? If so, how?   • Yaml::load_file acting different between development and production (Rails)

    Hi, I am completely stumped at the nature of this problem. We export data from our application into a 'cleaned' YAML file (stripping out IDs, created_at etc). Then we (will) allow users to import these files back into the application - it is the import that is completely bugging me out. In development, YAML::load_file(params[:uploaded_data].local_path) returns an array of YAML::Objects's (and it doesn't matter which of the number of different ways the file could be loaded): [#{"exception_count"="0", "title"="Start", "amount"="70.00", "colour"=nil, "repeat_type_id"="0", "repeat_interval"="1"}}, etc etc] Which is very nice, as the attributes also include the (associated model) exceptions that you see an exception_count for. However on production (rails 2.3.2, running REE 1.8.7 and 1.8.6 for testing, tested on two different production env's, and running production locally) it returns an array of the Objects within the YAML - in this case, Event: [#, repeat_type_id: 0, colour: nil, repeat_interval: 1, exception_count: 0, etc etc] Now this would be just perplexing if it also included the associated model Exception with it - however it doesn't. Can anyone at all shed some light on why the Yaml parser would behave so differently between production and development? I'm on rails 2.3.2, running REE 1.8.7; however I've also tested running Ruby 1.8.6 with exactly the same results. Thanks for any help!
