    I've been researching this for hours now and it seems to be an IE thing but my issue is that I have a container DIV that, in IE9, doesn't expand and cuts everything off after about 400px. Chrome and FF work perfectly, of course.     This has been driving my crazy trying to solve Code: http://pastebin.com/rqyw35jG First of all, I'm rendering in standards mode. I have a table in IE, with width=100%, and all columns in the table with specified widths except the last column. The intended behaviour is for IE to size the final column so it stretches to the page. This more or less works. However; Certain conditions seem to break the table widths and cause IE to go and size the table however it pleases. The table contains a row which is merged across all columns AND This merged row contains enough text to fill the whole cell AND Enough text is entered into one of the cells whose column had unspecified width, causing the text to wrap. When this 3 conditions occur, all the columns move slightly. The text still wraps and you wouldn't normally notice that the columns are the wrong size unless you measure them, or compare the page to a version without wrapped text. Is this even supposed to happen in standards mode?   • Can I install Ubuntu 13.10 without the internet?

    I'm new to Ubuntu and Linux in general. I'm currently out of town and the dorm I am living in has terrible internet connection. It won't be another 2-3 weeks before I can go home and have proper internet connection. So my question is whether or not I can install Ubuntu 13.10 in my laptop without the internet and then do the updates once I go home? Also, I'm attempting to do a dual boot with my Lenovo G505s which was pre-installed with Windows 8. Hopefully I can pull this off. I already did the necessary things (I think and hope so) prior to installation: Disable secure boot Enable legacy and boot UEFI first Create partition Put installer in my pen drive As I am quite new to this, any advice would be of great help. Thanks in advance! EDIT: I tried yesterday. The installation asked me to connect to the internet, so I used my crappy dorm internet. When it reached the downloading/installtion of Ubuntu One, it just stopped and went on forever. So I had to stop it.

  • IE7 preventDefault() not working on skip links

    I currently have skip links that jump to the div ids and was using e.preventDefault() to stop the url from changing when jumping to the element but in IE7 and IE8 it doesn't work at all using e.preventDefault() and if I take it out the url changes to the div the anchor tag contains reference to. Is their any fix or way around this?   • Non-floated div drops below right floated div in IE9 (and 7)

    This is a responsive site, (http://www.dermatologypartners.com) with desktop styles first. IE8 handles the pages correctly, though without CSS3 flourishes. But IE9 is dropping my navbar (on left) down, when it is up next to the right floated content in all the other browsers. My navbar is near the end of the HTML because I want it to flow over LAST, below page content but above the footer, in the smartphone version of the site -- which it does. The nav is NOT floated. It just rises to the top left and content is floated to the right. Except in IE9. I don't to have to redo all this, if I can just get an IE9 fix. It's not "float drop" - there's plenty of room available. I'm actually having the same problem in IE7, but I'm not concerned with IE7 -- but why 7 & 9, while 8 is fine? Thanks!

Before Here we are…Internet Explorer 8 with a lot of How-To Geek Network goodness ready to go. The Taskbar Thumbnail Previews look very nice, but perhaps they take up too much room for those of you who like to keep things simple. The Taskbar Icon has the classic “fanned edge” look just like any other software with Taskbar Thumbnail Previews active. Disabling the Thumbnail Previews If you want to deactivate the Taskbar Thumbnail Previews for Internet Explorer, it is quite easy and will only take you a few moments to complete. Open IE and go to Tools \ Internet Options. When the Internet Options Window opens you will already be on the General Tab. Under the Tabs Section, click on the Settings button. The Tabbed Browsing Settings window opens. Uncheck Show previews for individual tabs in the taskbar and click OK. When you are returned to the Internet Options Window, click OK once again to totally exit out. Note: A browser restart will be required for the changes to take effect. After you have restarted Internet Explorer, you will see the simple default Taskbar Thumbnail Preview and standard icon look.     I'd like to work offline (I'm flying to the US twice this month), to do this I need access to a linux development server. When I work from home I boot a VirtualBox VM and that acts as my dev server for the day (providing Apache, PHP & MySQL to run my server side code). However, I'd like to work with my VM when I'm not connected to a network. I have my Ubuntu VM guest set up with a bridge connection so it can serve HTTP and provide SSH access from inside my local network. I've tried to manually configure my network settings on both Mac OSX (the host) and Ubuntu (the guest) but I can't even ping my own NIC address (127.0.0.1 can, 192.168.21.x I can't) in OS X when I unplug the cable.     I have a one desktop running windows 7 ultimate connected to Ethernet cable. And I want to share folder to another wifi connected laptop (also windows 7 ultimate). Both machines are on the same home internet connection. I have tried to share folders by going to properties sharing advanced sharing permissions checked all the boxes to allow all but I don’t see any shared files on my laptop. I know it’s possible to share folders between two Wi-Fi connected machines but how can it be done when one pc is cable connected and other is Wi-Fi connected on the same internet connection.

    I have a NVidia GeForce GTX 660, connected to a Samsung SyncMaster S24B350 through a HDMI cable. On my computer, I'm running both, Windows 8 and Linux Mint. I think that something might prevent my system from using the whole RGB spectrum, since bright colors seem to vanish into white under standard settings. However, under Linux I could switch to a limited color range mode (16-235) and suddenly, the image looked much better. Is it possible that the HDMI cable limits color range (since it was originally inteded for TVs)? Is there a way of switching to limited color range mode in Windows 8 as well?

  • How do I setup routing for 2 companies with different Internet connections on the same LAN?

    Here's the setup: 2 companies (A & B) share office space and a LAN. A 2nd ISP is brought in and company A wants it's own Internet connection (ISP A) and company B wants it's own Internet connection (ISP B). VLANs are deployed internally to separate the 2 company's networks (company A: VLAN 1, company B: VLAN 2, shared VOIP: VLAN 3). With separate VLANs it's simple enough to use separate DHCP servers (or separate scopes on the same server) to assign the default gateway to each company's gateway for their Internet connection. Static routes can be created on each gateway to point traffic destined for the other company's VLAN or the voice VLAN so that all nodes are reachable as expected. However, I think this is a form of asymmetrical routing, right? (The path from node A1 to node B1 is not the same as the path back from node B1 to node A1). Can I setup policy-based routing to correct this? In that case, can I assign the same default gateway to every device on all VLANs and create a routing policy on a L3 switch to look at the source address and forward traffic to the appropriate next hop? In that case, I want the routing logic to go like this: If the destination address is known, forward the traffic (traffic destined for a different VLAN). If the destination address is unknown, forward the traffic to ISP A's gateway if the source address is on VLAN A; or forward the traffic to ISP B's gateway if the source address is VLAN B. Am I thinking about this problem in the correct way? Is there another way to solve this problem that I am overlooking?

  • Why didn't cable select work?

    I got roped into doing tech support for a friend of the family. Obviously I'd already failed to hide my powers, ala Penny Arcade. Anyways, the guy bought a DVD burner OEM from Microcenter, and asked me to install it. So I stopped by before and thought I'd be slick and use Cable Select on the jumpers. I didn't get a chance to test it before it I had to leave, and it seems that this didn't work. I came back this week to investigate, and he explains he's confused how none of the software he downloaded was able to burn. So on a whim I switch it to explicit master / slave, and it starts working fine. Whoops. Well, at least it's not the extra crap he found and downloaded for free from the internet. Why doesn't setting both jumpers to Cable Select solve this?

  • Loss of wireless network connectivity when playing video via HDMI cable

    Hi Folks - New to Super User, so I hope this question fits in with the guidelines. Very strange problem I am having, and I am at a loss as to how to continue troubleshooting this one. The basic problem is that when I attempt to watch streamed video on a particular display device (an Optoma HD180 projector), my network connectivity drops like a stone to barely measurable levels. This is my setup: I have a Dell H2C 730x running Windows 7 64bit. This particular computer has two ATI Radeon HD 4800 video cards. I have two Samsung 22" monitors connected to one card, and an Optoma HD180 digital projector connected to the other card via an HDMI cable. My internet connection is normally a reliable 6Mbps. The problem I am having occurs when I stream video (or even just browse the web) on the Optoma Projector. When I do this, my internet connection drops to practically zero (just a few kilobits per second). When I move the browser away from the projector, and over to one of my Samsung monitors, the internet connection comes right back. Note that the Optoma projector is on and enabled as a third monitor all this time. I can move the mouse around on the projector without triggering the problem. I tried pinging my router when I was playing a movie on one of the monitors, and I get a 1 millisecond response. However, when I have the movie playing on the Optoma projecter, pinging the router gives me response times in the hundreds of milliseconds, or times out completely. So, it clearly is something local to my machine - and not some sort of throttling occurring down the line. I would think that it is possibly something to do with the HDMI driver conflicting somehow with my network driver (which is a USB-based wireless connection). This one has me really stumped. Anyone have any ideas? EDIT: I am now leaning towards the possibility that the HDMI cable is somehow interfering with the wireless network, when large amounts of data are being pushed through the cable. Is this possible?

  • Un-balanced network speed although using fiberoptic cable line

    I'm not sure this is a right place to ask this question, but there's a strange thing that I don't quite sure what the reason is. My company has hired a fiberoptic cable line for network use (Wifi and cable through a router). But the strange thing is that, whenever someone view YouTube or listen stream music, then network speed for all the others become extremely slow. The download speed for that person is about 4-5 MB/s (or more), but others suffer. I'm still a newbie about networking. But I know there should be a solution. Could anyone tell me a way to stop this bad behavior? It's not possible for asking people not viewing YouTube, since that's part of their jobs. Any insights about this problem would be very welcome.
