How can I use a formula that will return the rows that have these characters? EG.   Is there a way to install an older Debian testing repository version of a package using apt-get? Specifically, I am looking to install the latest version of PHP 5.2.x on Debian Lenny. The last time I set up an environment, 5.2.12 just happened to be the version in Debian testing. That was perfect, convenient. Now, testing is at 5.3.x which won't work for my purposes, and my attempts at sudo apt-get -t testing install php5=5.2.12* are answered with E: Version '5.2.12*' for 'php5' was not found.

Also i can't use system-install-packages in terminal. When i double click rpm package it open as archive.   Hello, I'm using apt-get install to install various software on my PC. I have a handful of PCs that needs the same software packages installed all over them. How can I get list of software installed via apt-get install and the sequence in what the packages are installed. Okay, the sequence is not so important since the package manager resolves dependencies... I want to create a script that once run installs all needed software on the other PCs. All of these PCs are Ubuntu default installations. It is obvious that the packages list must not include all the packages that are installed trough a default installation :) Also that list should not contain software installed via synaptic or dpkg if possible.

• Compiling LAMP from source - apache2 error “no MPM package installed”

  Hi, I've compiled LAMP from source on a Ubuntu VPS. I had to remove a previously installed version of Apache then I manually compiled all the packages, which seems to have worked up unto a point - however, when I try to run commands like "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" I get the following error - No apache MPM package installed. I have installed mpm-prefork so I don't know why i'm getting this problem. My configure command is as follows: ./configure --enable-so --enable-modules=most --with-mpm=prefork I have deliberately not used apt-get to install anything and want to avoid this if possible. Anyone have any guidance on how to resolve this error? Thanks in advance

• Regular Expression to replace part of URL in XML file

  I need a regular expression in Notepad++ to search/replace a string. My document (xml) has serveral thousand lines that look similar to this: <Url Source="Output/username/project/Content/Volume1VolumeName/TopicFileName.htm" /> I need to replace everything starting from Volume1 to .htm" / to replaced with X's or some other character to mask the actual file names in this file. So the resulting string would look like this after the search/replace was performed: <Url Source="Output/username/project/Content/Volume1XxxxxxXxxx/XxxxxXxxxXxxx.htm" /> I am working with confidential information that I cannot release to people outside of my company, but i need to send an example log file to a 3rd party for troubleshooting purposes. FYI the X's do not need to follow the upper/lower case after the replacement, i was just using different case X's for the hell of it :)

  I'm aware that this is something people can easily program, but I'm not familiar with those things, so I was hoping there was an easier solution. I've edited a large database of questions, including sorting, and ended up getting all the question ID's mixed up. I'm trying to do this in Notepad++, but any other suggestions are welcome. I'm wondering if there's a way to search for a string (ex. "Question[any number]") and replace the numbers with first 1, then 2, et.c. For clarification, this is how one question looks like: TriviaBot_Questions[3]['Question'][63] = "Acronyms: What does WTT stand for?"; TriviaBot_Questions[3]['Answers'][63] = {"Want To Trade"}; TriviaBot_Questions[3]['Category'][63] = 7; TriviaBot_Questions[3]['Points'][63] = 1; TriviaBot_Questions[3]['Hints'][63] = {}; and the next question, as is now, is not followed by 64. It might be 245 or 1029, and regardless of which number it is, I want it replaced with "previous number + 1", basically.

  I have a Linux-Mint Debian Edition System. When I install sendmail I get an infinite loop. Reading configuration from /etc/mail/sendmail.conf. Validating configuration. Creating /etc/mail/databases... Reading configuration from /etc/mail/sendmail.conf. Validating configuration. Creating /etc/mail/databases... When I try dpkg --configure -a it is the same. Now I want to simple remove sendmail from the installation queue - but I can't simply do that, because apt-get always wants to configure sendmail first. Is there a way to force apt-get to remove sendmail or set it to "configured" - even though the package is not properly configured?

• How to install ported Linux software on a Mac? (MacPorts, Fink, anything better?)

  On my Mac OS X machine, how would you recommend I install various software that's been ported from Linux? I don't install such software very frequently, but I've been using MacPorts and it always seems quite slow, presumably because it has to compile the packages on-the-fly. I'd much prefer a package management system that has binary packages, saving me the need to compile things every time I want to download something new. I think Fink has binaries for some of the packages, but I usually see MacPorts recommended as the system to use. Which do you think works better and why? (Or is there another system that I haven't heard of?)

• View changelog of all packages to be upgraded before upgrading

  When using synaptic on my Ubuntu desktop computer i can review all changelog of all the packages to be upgraded, and unselect a package for upgrade if I want. On my desktop I usually install everything, but I like to at least review what the changes are so that I can delay the upgrade if I suspect it could cause problems with the development tools I use. On a server (Ubuntu Server) with no x-server how can I do the same thing on the console: list all packages that will be updated (apt-get --dry-run upgrade does this along with a lot of noisy simulated install messages), view the changelog (if any) from last upgrade to the version it will be upgraded to. select which packages I want to ignore, or which I want to upgrade I've searched a lot for this but I haven't found anything, possibly I'm not using the correct terminology; but surely this must be possible. Synaptic must get it's info from some some low-level tool I assume? Complicated shellscripts are welcome too, if this is not already easily done with the existing tools.

  I am running 64 bit Ubuntu 11.10 on an i7 with 8gigs of ram. I thought of putting this on askubuntu.com but decided that maybe the question has a much broader appeal. I have the following error message popping up when I run math simulations. CPUn: Core temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = xxxxxxx) CPUn: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = xxxxxxx) I realize that this is a hardware warning message (machine check exception, correct me if I am wrong). How do I turn these messages off? Since it doesn't seem to have a detrimental effect of my calculations or my computer (presumably), I don't like it cluttering up my virtual console screen with hundreds of these messages.

• Why doesn't openSUSE Linux upgrade itself through its software repositories?

  openSUSE - fast becoming my favourite Linux distro on the client - doesn't seem to upgrade itself through its own configured software repositories. Do we know why this is the case? Is it a money-making thing where they can then sell upgrade CDs / DVDs? I mean, pretty much every other Linux upgrades itself through the normal software repositories. For example, Ubuntu can upgrade itself from 10.4 to 10.10 just through the normal software package upgrade procedure. Why must it be a huge procedure to upgrade openSUSE? Any knowledge or ideas appreciated. Thank you.

• How to "demote" all titles and headings in Word 2010?

  I built a large help document for an application I wrote. I used all the default styles in Word 2010, including "Title", "Heading 1", "Heading 2", etc. Sadly, when I generated the Table of Contents, Titles were not included. I'm also now using chmProcessor to automatically generate a website from the document, and it's not including Titles in its Table of Contents either. I'd like to make all Titles into Heading 1s, all Heading 1s into Heading 2s, and Heading 2s into Heading 3s, etc. Is this possible without a huge manual effort? (I'm sure there's a better word than "demote" for this.)

• Can I install ConsoleZ without a package manager?

  I am not sure why/how, but I can't seem to simply install ConsoleZ on my Windows 7 computer. I went here, got the latest x64 release, and unzipped it. Afer unzipping it, I get just one directory, that looks like this Now I simply double click on Console.exe. This, however, gives me a very 'boring' looking console, and actually says 'Console2' at the top, not ConsoleZ. This is the first point that confuses me... what is going on here? The other .exe (ConsoleWow) doesn't run anything if I click it. So I Googled around some more, and found that I can get ConsoleZ, but from a package manager called 'Chocolatey'. This is from here. I have not tried that yet, (should I have to?), but this is another possible way. But I do not understand how/why my first attempt from above doesnt work. Where is the 'ConsoleZ'??

  Sorry, this might be a beginner question: How can I list all available versions of specific package? I know with apt-get install myPackage=1.2.3 a specific version could be installed. And with apt-show-version -a myPackage I would get a list of versions that are known by the system. But how getting a list of all available versions. I think that isn't possible using the apt tools because they are restricted to configured repositories. So what is the way to go? Some web-repositories? What is the recommondation for Ubuntu 8.04?

• SQL SERVER – Find Max Worker Count using DMV – 32 Bit and 64 Bit

  During several recent training courses, I found it very interesting that Worker Thread is not quite known to everyone despite the fact that it is a very important feature. At some point in the discussion, one of the attendees mentioned that we can double the Worker Thread if we double the CPU (add the same number of CPU that we have on current system). The same discussion has triggered this quick article. Here is the DMV which can be used to find out Max Worker Count SELECT max_workers_count FROM sys.dm_os_sys_info Let us run the above query on my system and find the results. As my system is 32 bit and I have two CPU, the Max Worker Count is displayed as 512. To address the previous discussion, adding more CPU does not necessarily double the Worker Count. In fact, the logic behind this simple principle is as follows: For x86 (32-bit) upto 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 256 For x86 (32-bit) more than 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 256 + ((# Procs – 4) * 8) For x64 (64-bit) upto 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 512 For x64 (64-bit) more than 4 logical processors  max worker threads = 512+ ((# Procs – 4) * 8) In addition to this, you can configure the Max Worker Thread by using SSMS. Go to Server Node >> Right Click and Select Property >> Select Process and modify setting under Worker Threads. According to Book On Line, the default Worker Thread settings are appropriate for most of the systems.   In Windows, we use the command-line program ipconfig to find out our IP address. How do you find it in Ubuntu? We will show you two locations easily accessible through the GUI and, of course, a terminal command that will get your IP address in no time. The first location, and the easiest in most cases, is found by right clicking the network icon in the notification area and clicking Connection Information. This brings up a window which has a bunch of information, including your IP address. The second location, which shows you more detail than this first method, is at System > Administration > Network Tools. Select the right network device, and you’ve got a ton of information at your fingertips. Finally, if you can’t tear yourself away from a terminal window, the command to type in is: ifconfig Yes, it’s only one character different than ipconfig. Who would have guessed? • Ubuntu impossible to install: "unable to find a medium containing a live filesystem"

  Yes, I have read questions and answers with similar titles for this issue, which prevented me from installing Ubuntu for several MONTHS now, trying to figure it out. I have a MacBookPro with triple partition (one for Mac Snow Leopard, one for Windows 7, one for Linux) created with reFIT firmware (not BootCamp). I set up the system according to these instructions for reFIT: http://lifehacker.com/5531037/how-to-triple+boot-your-mac-with-windows-and-linux-no-boot-camp-required Now. There is a free partition ready to accept Linux into its arms, but Linux does not want to participate. Most answers to the issue "unable to find a medium containing a live filesystem" point to changing the BIOS booting system (which I don't know how to do, especially using this reFIT booting system), and to changing the socket of the USB (which does not concern me, since I am using a CD, actually I tried with a CD, then with a DVD, since a blank CD is only 700MB while the iso image file of Ubuntu is about 731MB). Anyway. This is what happens: I am in the Mac system (using the Mac partition) I insert the DVD with the burned image of Ubuntu (yes I have tried burning it again and agin on both CD and DVD blank discs). I restart the computer. When reFIT loads, I hold down the ALT key until the CD image appears. I select it, and hit Enter. A small Ubuntu icon appears at the bottom of the screen. Then a Ubuntu sign appears in the middle of the screen with small dots underneath, lighting up progressively over and over to indicate it's loading. Then everything turns black and the following message appears, at the end of a few lines of text: "unable to find medium with live file system". Please provide very practical suggestions on what to do to an unexperienced wannabe Ubuntu very patient user. Please start by saying how do I access the BIOS setup from reFIT bootup, and exactly what and why I need to try and change. (Will this mess up my reFIT bootup?) And anything else I need to do to finally be able to install Ubuntu. Thanks
