• Get name of property as a string

  I'm trying to improve the maintainability of some code involving reflection. The app has a .NET Remoting interface exposing (among other things) a method called Execute for accessing parts of the app not included in its published remote interface. Here is how the app designates properties (a static one in this example) which are meant to be accessible via Execute: RemoteMgr.ExposeProperty("SomeSecret", typeof(SomeClass), "SomeProperty"); So a remote user could call: string response = remoteObject.Execute("SomeSecret"); and the app would use reflection to find SomeClass.SomeProperty and return its value as a string. Unfortunately, if someone renames SomeProperty and forgets to change the 3rd parm of ExposeProperty(), it breaks this mechanism. I need to the equivalent of: SomeClass.SomeProperty.GetTheNameOfThisPropertyAsAString() to use as the 3rd parm in ExposeProperty so refactoring tools would take care of renames. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

• Why is joining two vectors simply not working?

  I have two vectors of MyObj structs. MyObj is defined as follows: struct MyObj { float x, y; unsigned int data[8]; unsigned int tmp[1]; MyObj(const MyObj &m) { x = m.x; y = m.y; tmp[0] = 0; for (int i = 0; i < 8; ++i) { data[i] = m.data[i]; } } }; I then have two vectors... vector<MyObj> v1; vector<MyObj> v2; // both get data eventually. v1.insert(v1.end(), v2.begin(), v2.end()); v2 has 3535004 elements in my experiment. v1 is similarly sized. I've also tried building a new vector and just using .push_back to build it from both vectors. Essentially, when I try to merge the two vectors I just get an error from visual studio saying "Debug error! R6010, abort() has been called". Very non-useful... So my question is: what could be causing this error, and how can I solve it? Thank you

• Serial Data Not Transmitted in C# Application

  Hello. I have a C# application wherein serial (COM1) data appears to sometimes not get transmitted. Following is a simplified snippet of my code (calls to textBox writes have been removed): try { serialPort1.Write("D"); serialPort1.Write(msg, 0, 512); serialPort1.Write("d"); serialPort1.Write(pCsum, 0, 2); } catch (SystemException ex) { /* ... */ } What is odd is that this same code works just fine when the port is configured for 115.2Kbps. However, when running at 9600bps data that should be transmitted by this code seems to not get transmitted. I have verified this by monitoring the receive flag on the remote device. No exceptions are thrown from within the try statement. Is there something else (Flush, etc.) that I should be doing to make sure the data is transmitted? Any thoughts or suggestions you may have would be appreciated. I'm using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.

• Setting the size of a ContentPane (inside of a JFrame)

  Hello, I want to set the size of a JFrame such that the contentPane is the desired size. JFrame.setSize() doesn't take the window decorations into account, so the contentPane is slightly too small. The size of the window decorations are platform and theme specific, so it's bad news to try to manually account for them. JFrame.getContentPane().setSize() fails because it's managed. Ideas? Thanks!

  I would like to write a "daemon" application that will add a special audio filter (e.g. audio enhancement) to AudioRecord. The result should be as follows: Whenever any VoIP application (e.g. Skype,...) will create an AudioRecord, the captured audio will be first filtered using my daemon application before it reaches Skype. Is this doable ? For example can I use an AudioSessionID=0 to attach my filter to all the input channels ?

• Anyway to surround code block with curly braces {} in VS2008?

  I always find myself needing to enclose a block of code in curly braces { }, but unfortunately that isn't included in the C# surround code snippets, which seems to be an oversight. I couldn't find anything on building your own surround snippets either (just other kinds of snippets). I am actually running Resharper too, but it doesn't seem to have this functionality either (or I haven't figured how to activate it). We have a coding standard of including even a single line of code after an if or else in curly braces, so if I could just make Resharper do that refactor automatically that would be even better!

• How to refer to the true 'body' of a page? [NOT iFrame body]

  I have a script that create a new div element. Then, I want to append the div to the body of the page using appendChild method. The script is look like this : var div = document.createElement('div'); div.id = 'newdiv'; document.body.appendChild(div); Unfortunately, the div also appended to the body of iframes. So, my question is, how to refer to the true body of the document, not including the body of the iframes? That way, the div just appended once, to the "true body" of the document. For example: http://www.mysurveypages.foo/survey/UniqueID I would then customize the survey based on who I sent it to. I know it can be done by passing in a unique parameter to a page but I curious about doing it this way.

• Changing the height of an existing, visible TextView

  Hi I'd like to programatically increase the height allocated to a TextView, and have the activity layout redrawn accordingly (the text view has a maximum height until the user clicks it, then it takes up all height required, wrap_content). setHeight() isn't working, even coupled with invalidate() or postInvalidate(). I am able to change the contents of the TextBox with setText() but it isn't altering the existing specified height. Android 1.5 under the 1.6 SDK.

• How to get VS or Xcode warning with something like "x = x++"?

  In the spirit of undefined behavior associated with sequence points such as “x = ++x” is it really undefined?, how does one get the compiler to complain about such code? Specifically, I am using Visual Studio 2010 and Xcode 4.3.1, the latter for an OSX app, and neither warned me about this. I even cranked up the warnings on VS2010 to "all", and it happily compiled this. (For the record, VS2010's version added 1 to the variable where Xcode's version kept the variable unchanged.)

• AppHarbor - Azure Done Right AKA Heroku for .NET

  Easy and Instant deployments and instant scale for .NET? Awhile back a few of us were looking at Ruby Gems as the answer to package management for .NET. The gems platform supported the concept of DLLs as packages although some changes would have needed to happen to have long term use for the entire community. From that we formed a partnership with some folks at Microsoft to make v2 into something that would meet wider adoption across the community, which people now call NuGet. So now we have the concept of package management. What comes next? Heroku Instant deployments and instant scaling. Stupid simple API. This is Heroku. It doesn’t sound like much, but when you think of how fast you can go from an idea to having someone else tinker with it, you can start to see its power. In literally seconds you can be looking at your rails application deployed and online. Then when you are ready to scale, you can do that. This is power. Some may call this “cloud-computing” or PaaS (Platform as a Service). I first ran into Heroku back in July when I met Nick of RubyGems.org. At the time there was no alternative in the .NET-o-sphere. I don’t count Windows Azure, mostly because it is not simple and I don’t believe there is a free version. Heroku itself would not lend itself well to .NET due to the nature of platforms and each language’s specific needs (solution stack).  So I tucked the idea in the back of my head and moved on. AppHarbor Enters The Scene I’m not sure when I first heard about AppHarbor as a possible .NET version of Heroku. It may have been in November, but I didn’t actually try it until January. I was instantly hooked. AppHarbor is awesome! It still has a ways to go to be considered Heroku for .NET, but it already has a growing community. I created a video series (at the bottom of this post) that really highlights how fast you can get a product onto the web and really shows the power and simplicity of AppHarbor. Deploying is as simple as a git/hg push to appharbor. From there they build your code, run any unit tests you have and deploy it if everything succeeds. The screen on the right shows a simple and elegant UI to getting things done. The folks at AppHarbor graciously gave me a limited number of invites to hand out.   How can I add the suffix on the day number of a unix date? I'll explain. I have a TextMate bundle snippit that writes out today's date. It uses unix date and formatting. Here is the code: `date +%A` `date +%d` `date +%B` `date +%Y` It outputs: Monday 22 March 2010 I would like to add the suffix to the day (st, nd, rd and th) like so: Monday 22nd March 2010 As far as I can see, there is no native function in the unix date formatting, like there is in PHP (j). How would I achieve this in unix? A complicated regex on the day number?

  Hi, I am working on Joomla 1.5 and our site is using the Bluehost server.Till March 9th, 2010 our site was working perfectly.And on March 10th,2010 , the following error was shown in the site as Warning: Unexpected character in input: '' (ASCII=28) state=1 in /home1/tcscoinc/public_html/tcsrnd/administrator/components/com_jaclplus/jac lplus.class.php on line 73 Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home1/tcscoinc/public_html/tcsrnd/administrator/components/com_jaclplus/jac lplus.class.php on line 73 For time being, i have just renamed the file jaclplus.class.php to make the site to function. As we are using Jaclplus component and we have purchased the Jaclplus component from Byos Tech , i have checked in the membership details.And we found that our Membership has been expired on 03/10/2010 . I have asked them but they had replied that it may not be a problem on membership. Please anyone share what can be the reason for the error.I am not able to open that file(jaclplus.class.php) since its a binary file.

  Im trying to order results ASCENDING from the current date this is what im using now; SELECT * FROM friends JOIN bdays ON bdays.user = friends.friendname WHERE username = $userid ORDER BY DATE_FORMAT(date, '%m %d') any ideas? example ordering by date now, sorts the birthdays starting at january what i need, is instead of starting the list at january, is starting it from the current date. So, instead of; January February March April May June July August September November December It will order them like this; April (current month/day) May June July August September November December January February March April (all the way up to yesterday)

  Suppose you have a messaging system built in PHP with a MySQL database backend, and you would like to support searching for messages using arbitrary date strings. The database includes a messages table, with a 'date_created' field represented as a datetime. Examples of the arbitrary date strings that would be accepted by the user should mirror those accepted by strtotime. For the following examples, searches performed on March 21, 2010: "January 26, 2009" would return all messages between 2009-01-26 00:00:00 and 2009-01-27 00:00:00 "March 8" would return all messages between 2010-03-08 00:00:00 and 2010-01-26 00:00:00 "Last week" would return all messages between 2010-03-14 00:00:00 and 2010-03-21 018:25:00 "2008" would return all messages between 2008-01-01 00:00:00 and 2008-12-31 00:00:00 I began working with date_parse, but the number of variables grew quickly. I wonder if I am re-inventing the wheel. Does anyone have a suggestion that would work either as a general solution or one that would capture most of the possible input strings?
