  • Use cellular emulator with a REAL WinMo device?

    I don't whether this is even possible which is obviously why I am asking this question :) Is it in any way possible to leverage functionality the Cellular Emulator on a REAL PHYSICAL device?? :) So when I test it on my device, I really do not have to send real SMS(s) to test my MessageInteceptor. On a sidenote, why does MessageInteceptor fails after several messages to intercept messages?? :( Thanx a lot in advance :)

  • Placing a window near the system tray

    I am writing a program that needs to set a window just above/below the traybar for gtk. I have tried using the 2 approaches that failed. One was using the gtk_status_icon_position_menu function and placing the window in the point where the user clicks (in the tray bar). The problem is that these solutions work in gnome(Linux) but not in Windows. In Linux they work because the window manager doesn't seem to allow placement of windows in the tray panel, honoring the closest possible. In Windows this doesn't happen and the window can go "out" of the screen which understandably is not desired. With this said i went out for a work around. My idea was to set the window in the location of mouse click and get the x and y coordinates of a normal window placement and with it's size check if it would be within the screen boundaries. If it was not make the correction. I have came up with the functions needed but for some reason the gdk_drawable_get_size(window-window ,&WindowWidth, &WindowHeight) and other similar functions only give the correct size value after the second run of the signal function. The result of the first run is just 1 to both size and width.   • MySQL to SQL Server - Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'mictest'

    First, I tried to migrate my databases with SQL Server Migration Assistant for MySql and it worked fine. But now, I have some problems with my code. I had this line on MYSQL version : $fct="SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE `USER` LIKE CONVERT( _utf8 '$LOGIN' USING latin1 ) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci AND `PASS` LIKE CONVERT( _utf8 '$PASS'USING latin1 ) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci"; This line worked fine but when i try to put this on my SQL Version i get : Error : SQLSTATE[42000]: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax with the keyword 'mictest'.   • Will VC++ MFC become obsolete in near future?

    Normally people say MFC is little clumsy. It makes UI development slightly difficult to maintain since it has lot of auto generated code. It has good architecture (doc/view) but is not transparent like Win32 programming to understand how window program works in the background. So with this situation, is it good to extend the exposure on MFC programming or better to switch to .NET since for faster UI design with ease in maintenance. Is it good to continue as MFC developer or good to know .NET as well? How globally companies are looking into MFC as a technology for UI developments. Are they comfortable in supporting their developers to continue with MFC or looking for changing their development technology.

    I vaguely remember reading a blog entry (written by a well-known blogger I think) about how to model price changes over time, and that you could model most changes by saving two dates only (two columns in a db). The blog talked about prices on a website changing over time and how you could figure out the right price to charge knowing only when the purchase had been made. Very vague, I know, but my google-fu is failing me, everyone at IRC are busy talking about other stuff and I don't know what to do! :)

    I have a requirement to use a Fund model in my code. It will contain a fund name and fund code. In the interest of reuse I've poked around the package containing the other models used and found an existing Fund model. However the issue here is that, in addition to fund name and code, it also contains an amount. Amount isn't directly relevant in my context. So, do I: 1) Use the existing Fund model as is, ignoring the setters/getters for fund amount. 2) Put a FundDescription interface onto the existing Fund model for accessing only the information I'm interested in. 3) Make a FundDescription base class from which the existing Fund model could now extend 4) Create a whole new seperate model since the two are slightly contextually different

    I was testing my app that I've been working on for past 2 months. Basically it requests for JSON, that contains info about items. One field of JSON file is image_url. When I want to display this image, I need to download it from another server, that needs additional credentials.   • Is there ever a good reason to store time not in UTC?

    I am wondering if there are any good reasons to ever store time information in anything other that UTC (GMT)? I believe that this is a solid rule for all software engineering. The conversion to local time is merely a translation that happens at the UI layer for display purposes. I have also seen cases where the translatation is needed in order to implement an algorithm correctly (for handling midnight date changes, etc.).
