  • Creating a SQL lookup

    - by Scott
    I’m in the process of cleaning up a database table. Due to the way some of the data needed to be processed, now I need to go back and perform a “reverse lookup” on the data. For example, a field for one of the records is set to “car” and I need to set that record’s tranportmode field to “1” (for “car”). The lookup tables are already created. I just need to do the reverse lookup part. The cleansed tables will only have the numeric lookup value.

  • Ojective C Class or struct?

    - by Scott Pendleton
    I have a class Song with properties Title, Key, Artist, etc. There are no methods. I loop through a database of song information and create a Song object for each, populating the properties, and then store the Song objects in an NSArray. Then I thought, why not just have a struct Song with all those same properties instead of a class Song. Doing so would eliminate the class files, the #import Song line in the using class's .m file, and the need to alloc, init, release. On the other hand, I'd have to put the struct definition in every class that might need it. (Unless there's some globally accessible location -- is there?) Also, can a struct be stored in an NSArray?

  • Updating external Flex components from an action

    - by Scott
    Hello, I'm new to Flex and am having trouble understanding Events. I think Events are what I want to use for my situation. I have 2 components, addUser.mxml and listUsers.mxml. I access these from a ViewStack in my main application. When I load listUsers.mxml it shows a list of current users in a datagrid via a HTTPService call. When I add a user using the form on addUser.mxml I would like the datagrid in listUsers.mxml to refresh when I return to that view to show the new user. I've tried several different things with addEventListener and dispatchEvent but can't seem to get it working. Can someone help me with this logic?

  • Should I name the files in my solution all lowercase for SEO?

    - by Scott
    I read that an SEO best practice is to use lowercase urls. Should I name my asp.net webforms project files lowercase as well? Visual Studio doesn't name default documents in new projects all lowercase. I'm not sure it matters since browsing to http://www.mysite.com/mypage.aspx will still work even if your page is named MyPage.aspx. Can somebody enlighten me on this?

  • jQuery jPicker colorpicker: How to convert from 8 digit (w Transparency) to standard 6 digit hex?

    - by Scott B
    I've got a jPicker installed and running fine; its a pretty sweet script. However, the value it returns to my input box is 8 digit hex. I need it to return 6 digit hex. Rather than post-process the 8 digit into 6, I'd rather just hack into the script and force 6 digit. Alternately, I'd be ok with hooking into the change event of the jPicker to intercept the value its sending to the input element and doing the conversion there just before it updates the input with the hex. Here's my code: $(function() { $('#myThemeColor').jPicker(); /* Bind jPicker to myThemeColor input */ $("#carousel").jCarouselLite({ btnNext: ".next", btnPrev: ".prev", visible: 6, speed: 700 }); And here's the code I'm working with to intercept the myThemeColor input's change event, but its not firing at all. $('#myThemeColor').change(function() { alert(this.val()); /* does not fire on any action */) if($(this).val().length == 8) { $(this).val(function(i, v) { return v.substring(0, 6); }); } });

  • Add the categories selector widget to the PAGE editor with predefined categories listed?

    - by Scott B
    The following code will add the categories selector widget to the WordPress Page editor interface... add_action('admin_menu', 'my_post_categories_meta_box'); function my_post_categories_meta_box() { add_meta_box('categorydiv', __('Categories'), 'post_categories_meta_box', 'page', 'side', 'core'); } What I would like to do is to figure out how to modify the resulting category listing so that it only contains a predefined list of hard coded categories that I define. Since I'm adding this via my custom theme, it will only appear on the page editor when my theme is active on the site. And I have some specific "handler" categories that my theme installs into the site and later uses to determine layout elements.

  • jQuery Fade a div off the screen

    - by Scott B
    In my app, I have a temporary div that is shown each time the app is saved (see markup below). I'm using jQuery 1.4.2 and would like to know the command that will fade this div off the screen after 3 seconds... <script src="../wp-content/themes/mytheme/jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> if ($_REQUEST['saved']) echo '<div id="message" class="updated fade"><p>'.$themename.' settings saved.</strong></p></div>';

  • Javascript adding two numbers incorrectly

    - by Scott
    Global.alert("base: " + base + ", upfront: " + upfront + ", both: " + (base + upfront)); This code above outputs this: base: 15000, upfront: 36, both: 1500036 Why is it joining the two numbers instead of adding them up? I eventually want to set the value of another field to this amount using this: mainPanel.feesPanel.initialLoanAmount.setValue(Ext.util.Format.number((base + upfront), '$0,000.00')); ...and when I try that now it turns the number into the millions instead of 15,036.00. I have no idea why. Any ideas?

  • mongodb java driver - raw command?

    - by Scott
    Is it possible to execute raw commands as javascript through the Java driver for MongoDB? I'm tired of wrapping everything in Java objects using Rhino, and would happily sacrifice performance for the convenience of passing javascript directly through to the DB. If not, I can always use sleepymongoose or something, but I don't really want to add yet another language (python) to the stack at this point. Any insights are appreciated.

  • $_POST vs. $_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == 'POST'

    - by Scott
    Some guy called one of my Snipplr submissions "crap" because I used if ($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == 'POST') instead of if ($_POST) Checking the request method seems more correct to me because that's what I really want to do. Is there some operational difference between the two or is this just a code clarity issue?

  • C# Simpler / more efficient method of if ... else flow?

    - by Scott
    I'm currently working on an emulation server for a flash-client based game, which has a "pets system", and I was wondering if there was a simpler way of going about checking the level of specified pets. Current code: public int Level { get { if (Expirience 100) // Level 2 { if (Expirience 200) // Level 3 { if (Expirience 400) // Level 4 - Unsure of Goal { if (Expirience 600) // Level 5 - Unsure of Goal { if (Expirience 1000) // Level 6 { if (Expirience 1300) // Level 7 { if (Expirience 1800) // Level 8 { if (Expirience 2400) // Level 9 { if (Expirience 3200) // Level 10 { if (Expirience 4300) // Level 11 { if (Expirience 7200) // Level 12 - Unsure of Goal { if (Expirience 8500) // Level 13 - Unsure of Goal { if (Expirience 10100) // Level 14 { if (Expirience 13300) // Level 15 { if (Expirience 17500) // Level 16 { if (Expirience 23000) // Level 17 { return 17; // Bored } return 16; } return 15; } return 14; } return 13; } return 12; } return 11; } return 10; } return 9; } return 8; } return 7; } return 6; } return 5; } return 4; } return 3; } return 2; } return 1; } } Yes, I'm aware I've misspelt Experience, I had made the mistake in a previous function and hadn't gotten around to updating everything... :P

  • What is the best practice when using UIStoryboards?

    - by Scott Sherwood
    Having used storyboards for a while now I have found them extremely useful however, they do have some limitations or at least unnatural ways of doing things. While it seems like a single storyboard should be used for your app, when you get to even a moderately sized application this presents several problems. Working within teams is made more difficult as conflicts in Storyboards can be problematic to resolve (any tips with this would also be welcome) The storyboard itself can become quite cluttered and unmanageable. So my question is what are the best practices of use? I have considered using a hybrid approach having logical tasks being split into separate storyboards, however this results in the UX flow being split between the code and the storyboard. To me this feels like the best way to create reusable actions such as login actions etc. Also should I still consider a place for Xibs? This article has quite a good overview of many of the issues and it proposes that for scenes that only have one screen, xibs should be used in this case. Again this feels unusual to me with Apples support for instantiating unconnected scenes from a storyboard it would suggest that xibs won't have a place in the future but I could be wrong.

  • WordPress 2.9.2 htaccess curruption issue strikes again (in Patched site)

    - by Scott B
    The htaccess file below crashed the site with an internal server error (500). This site has the misc.php patch that's discussed here: Wordpress Bug #11903 Apparently something else is at play here or the patch is not fully addressing the issue. 3 sites went down yesterday. 2 today (so far). • What is the XSLT to put (some) attributes one-to-a-line?

    - by Scott Stafford
    I want an XML stylesheet (XSLT) that will put the attributes of a few, specific, child nodes one-to-a-line. What is the XSLT for this? I recently asked a related question that someone offered a stylesheet to solve but their stylesheet didn't work for some reason, and I am curious why -- the attributes simply didn't end up one-per-line. By way of example, my XML might look like this: <MyXML> <NodeA> <ChildNode value1='5' value2='6' /> </NodeA> <NodeB> <AnotherChildNode value1='5' value2='6' /> </NodeB> <NodeC> <AnotherChildNode value1='5' value2='6' /> </NodeC> </MyXML> And I want a stylesheet that will expand all NodeA's and NodeB's but not NodeCs and make it look like this: <MyXML> <NodeA> <ChildNode value1='5' value2='6' /> </NodeA> <NodeB> <AnotherChildNode value1='5' value2='6' /> </NodeB> <NodeC> <AnotherChildNode value1='5' value2='6' /> </NodeC> </MyXML>

  • Does C# 4's covariance support nesting of generics?

    - by Scott Bilas
    I don't understand why 'x' below converts, but 'y' and 'z' do not. var list = new List<List<int>>(); IEnumerable<List<int>> x = list; List<IEnumerable<int>> y = list; IEnumerable<IEnumerable<int>> z = list; Does the new covariance feature simply not work on generics of generics or am I doing something wrong? (I'd like to avoid using .Cast< to make y and z work.)

  • Qt drag/drop: cannot move when copy is enabled (Ubuntu Gnome)

    - by Scott
    I'm implementing a view and a model where I want to support both moving items internally (by dragging), and copying items (by pressing Ctrl while dragging). I've done everything I need to do according to the instructions. I've set up the mime functions, I've implemented removeRows(), and flags(). The problem is when I drag, it defaults to a copy operation (I get the arrow cursor with a plus sign, and it indeed copies the item by creating a new one in the model). The only difference I can see is this: If I return only Qt::MoveAction in supportedDropActions(), it only moves. If I return (Qt::CopyAction | Qt::MoveAction), it only copies. Any ideas? I want it to work like files in Nautilus (Gnome) or Windows file Explorer: drag moves icons around, ctrl+drag copies them.

  • Tigther code - javascript object array

    - by Scott Silvi
    Inside the callback of a $.getJSON call, I have the code outlined below. The first for block aggregates 'total' & assigns values to sov[i]. The map function calculates the percentage of total. I then instantiate a variable called sovData. With the jQuery Flot graph, any objects that are empty aren't added to the pie chart, so this works for up to 7 different slices/datasets. What I'd like to do is only initialize the ones I need (e.g. sovData would have up to 'howMany - 1' (kws.length -1 ) objects inside of it, likely via something similar to dashboards[i] & sov[i]. How would I do this? Code: var sov = [], howMany = kws.length, total = 0, i = 0; for ( i; i < howMany; i++) { total += sov[ i ] = +parseInt(data.sov['sov' + ( i+1 ) ],10) || 0; } var dashboards = data.dashboards; sov = $.map( sov, function(v) { var s = Math.round( ( (v / total) * 10e3 ) / 100); return s < 1 ? 1 : s; }); var sovData = [{ label : dashboards[0], data : sov[0] }, { label : dashboards[1], data : sov[1] }, { label : dashboards[2], data : sov[2] }, { label : dashboards[3], data : sov[3] }, { label : dashboards[4], data : sov[4] }, { label : dashboards[5], data : sov[5] }, { label : dashboards[6], data : sov[6] } ]

  • Unable to call views

    - by Scott
    I'm using Sails and I when I attempt to call the login action of my UsersController. I know my routing is working, because the console.log successfully logs both the loginpassword and loginname. However, the res.view() doesn't work. Neither does returning res.view(). module.exports = { create: function(req, res) { }, destroy: function(req, res) { }, login: function(req, res) { var loginname = req.param("loginname"); var loginpassword = req.param("loginpassword"); console.log(loginname + ' ' + loginpassword); res.view(); }, logout: function(req, res) { }, _config: {} }; I have a /views/user/login.ejs and all it currently contains is a header block with some test text, but I can't get that to render at all. Any thoughts?
