  • How can I switch my display language to English in Windows 7?

    Hi, I live in Israel and I bought Windows 7 Professional in Hebrew. I'd like to switch the language to English. In Control Panel - Region and Language I don't have any options to switch the display language to English because only Hebrew is installed. In Windows Update, there are no language updates. I have waited three days, and still no language update. Any Ideas? Thank you.

  • Type Chinese with French keyboard

    I use a Mac with French keyboard, and I have installed a Windows 7 as virtual machine. Now I would like to type Chinese in this Windows 7. The normal input method for Chinese within Windows 7 allows me to input Chinese, but does not work perfectly, because it does not recognize I am using a French keyboard - it presumes I am using a English keybord... So for some keys, what I type on the keybord is not what the input method gives on the screen... Could anyone help on this?

  • Forbid language switch for certain application(s)

    I have a problem of accidental input language switch. I tried many different settings in order to not do it - change hotkey, install some software (Key Switcher, Keyboard Ninja, Punto Switcher)... But nothing helped. I used to certain hotkey (Ctrl+Shift). Any other hotkey make me even more suffer. The software s found has no feature to avoid accidental switches. What I want is to find a piece of software which can stick "English US" input language to my "Visual Studio". And any Ctrl+Shift pushes inside VS should not lead to language switch. Have any ideas?

  • Typing with a right-to-left language on Windows Vista Home Premium (English)

    A friend's laptop came with "Windows Vista Home Premium (SP1)" installed in English. But she's from a country with a right-to-left language, and she wants to be able to type in her own language from right-to-left. Going to the control panel and adding a keyboard on her language did half of the trick. She can type in her language but on a left-to-right way. Is it possible to enable the cursor to go on the other direction?

  • My windows keyboard is being "clever" with the quote keys - how can I stop it?

    I'm using windows 7 on a laptop. On the laptop keyboard, for some reason, the quote key (which has both double and single quote on it) is doing some "clever" annoying things: When I press single-quote (or double-quote), windows doesn't send any characters until I press it twice (resulting in '' or "") When I press it before a vowel, I get some kind of accented character. As I usually only write English, this is annoying. The backtick/tilde key is subject to similar behaviour. I have not attempted to set up my computer to process anything other than English. My keyboard appears to be (in so far as these things are standard on laptops) a standard US qwerty keyboard. How can I stop this happening?

  • How to restore pre-windows-8 Alt+Shift keyboard behavior?

    Before Windows 8, the Alt+Shift shortcut changed the input method (keyboard layout) for the current app. This permitted to map an input method to each app. For example I could keep the default layout for my apps where I write in english and switch to a french layout in apps where I write in french. This was working great: each app had his keyboard layout. Now with Windows 8 the Alt+Shift key has a global behavior for all applications. This meens I have to change my input method almost each time I change from app to app. Is there a way to restore the pre-Windows-8 behavior? Or is there another shortcut?

    I have played/worked with many different programming languages and Dylan is still one of my favorites. My question is why did Dylan fail when Objective-C, Ruby and even Scheme have had more success? Was Dylans performance that much worse than Objective-C that Apple went with it or was purely for social/political reasons.     I am looking into the possibility/feasibility/resources for building a cross compiler which takes a procedural or Object Oriented language like C, or Java and compiling it into SQL. I understand that the advantage of SQL code is performing set operations which is fundamentally different from procedural languages which generally process 1 at a time.     Question: Is there any such thing as a programming language (other than an esoteric language such as BrainF@#$, or the languages PHP or VB) that you can "compile" into non-obfuscated PHP source code? Rationale: Swip wants to generate ordinary PHP code because it is so ubiquitous for the types of projects swip wants to do. Unfortunately swip would like to actually avoid writing PHP -- strange but true! Swip is crazy enough to want to generate PHP source code without having to type any PHP into Swip's editor.
