  • how to change string values in dictionary to int values

    - by tom smith
I have a dictionary such as: {'Sun': {'Satellites': 'Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune,Ceres,Pluto,Haumea,Makemake,Eris', 'Orbital Radius': '0', 'Object': 'Sun', 'RootObject': 'Sun', 'Radius': '20890260'}, 'Earth': {'Period': '365.256363004', 'Satellites': 'Moon', 'Orbital Radius': '77098290', 'Radius': '63710.41000.0', 'Object': 'Earth'}, 'Moon': {'Period': '27.321582', 'Orbital Radius': '18128500', 'Radius': '1737000.10', 'Object': 'Moon'}} I am wondering how to change just the number values to ints instead of strings. def read_next_object(file): obj = {} for line in file: if not line.strip(): continue line = line.strip() key, val = line.split(": ") if key in obj and key == "Object": yield obj obj = {} obj[key] = val yield obj planets = {} with open( "smallsolar.txt", 'r') as f: for obj in read_next_object(f): planets[obj["Object"]] = obj print(planets)

  • Converting the value from string to integer in a nested dictionary

    - by tom smith
I want to change the numbers in my dictionary to int values for use later in my program. So far I have import time import math x = 400 y = 300 def read_next_object(file): obj = {} for line in file: if not line.strip(): continue line = line.strip() key, val = line.split(": ") if key in obj and key == "Object": yield obj obj = {} obj[key] = val yield obj planets = {} with open( "smallsolar.txt", 'r') as f: for obj in read_next_object(f): planets[obj["Object"]] = obj print(planets) scale=250/int(max([planets[x]["Orbital Radius"] for x in planets if "Orbital Radius" in planets[x]])) print(scale) and the output is {'Sun': {'Object': 'Sun', 'Satellites': 'Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune,Ceres,Pluto,Haumea,Makemake,Eris', 'Orbital Radius': '0', 'RootObject': 'Sun', 'Radius': '20890260'}, 'Moon': {'Object': 'Moon', 'Orbital Radius': '18128500', 'Period': '27.321582', 'Radius': '1737000.10'}, 'Earth': {'Object': 'Earth', 'Satellites': 'Moon', 'Orbital Radius': '77098290', 'Period': '365.256363004', 'Radius': '6371000.0'}} 3.2426140709476178e-06 I want to be able to convert the numbers in the dict to ints for further use. • JSF composite component - weird behavior when trying to save state

    - by jc12
    I'm using Glassfish 3.2.2 and JSF 2.1.11 I'm trying to create a composite component that will take as parameters a string and a max number of characters and then will show only the max amount of characters, but it will have a "more" link next to it, that when clicked will expand the text to the full length and will then have a "less" link next to it to take it back to the max number of characters. I'm seeing some weird behavior, so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Here is my composite component definition: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:composite="http://java.sun.com/jsf/composite" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:fn="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/functions" xmlns:p="http://primefaces.org/ui"> <composite:interface componentType="expandableTextComponent"> <composite:attribute name="name" required="true"/> <composite:attribute name="maxCharacters" required="true"/> <composite:attribute name="value" required="true"/> </composite:interface> <composite:implementation> <h:panelGroup id="#{cc.attrs.name}"> <h:outputText value="#{fn:substring(cc.attrs.value, 0, cc.attrs.maxCharacters)}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) le cc.attrs.maxCharacters}"/> <h:outputText value="#{fn:substring(cc.attrs.value, 0, cc.attrs.maxCharacters)}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) gt cc.attrs.maxCharacters and !cc.expanded}" style="margin-right: 5px;"/> <h:outputText value="#{cc.attrs.value}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) gt cc.attrs.maxCharacters and cc.expanded}" style="margin-right: 5px;"/> <p:commandLink actionListener="#{cc.toggleExpanded()}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) gt cc.attrs.maxCharacters}" update="#{cc.attrs.name}"> <h:outputText value="#{__commonButton.more}..." rendered="#{!cc.expanded}"/> <h:outputText value="#{__commonButton.less}" rendered="#{cc.expanded}"/> </p:commandLink> </h:panelGroup> </composite:implementation> </html> And here is the Java component: @FacesComponent("expandableTextComponent") public class ExpandableTextComponent extends UINamingContainer { boolean expanded; public boolean isExpanded() { return expanded; } public void toggleExpanded() { expanded = !expanded; } } Unfortunately expanded is always false every time the toggleExpanded function is called. However if I change the composite component to the following then it works. <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:composite="http://java.sun.com/jsf/composite" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:fn="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/functions" xmlns:p="http://primefaces.org/ui"> <composite:interface componentType="expandableTextComponent"> <composite:attribute name="name" required="true"/> <composite:attribute name="maxCharacters" required="true"/> <composite:attribute name="value" required="true"/> </composite:interface> <composite:implementation> <h:panelGroup id="#{cc.attrs.name}"> <h:outputText value="#{fn:substring(cc.attrs.value, 0, cc.attrs.maxCharacters)}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) le cc.attrs.maxCharacters}"/> <h:outputText value="#{fn:substring(cc.attrs.value, 0, cc.attrs.maxCharacters)}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) gt cc.attrs.maxCharacters and !cc.expanded}" style="margin-right: 5px;"/> <p:commandLink actionListener="#{cc.toggleExpanded()}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) gt cc.attrs.maxCharacters and !cc.expanded}" update="#{cc.attrs.name}" process="@this"> <h:outputText value="#{__commonButton.more}..."/> </p:commandLink> <h:outputText value="#{cc.attrs.value}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) gt cc.attrs.maxCharacters and cc.expanded}" style="margin-right: 5px;"/> <p:commandLink actionListener="#{cc.toggleExpanded()}" rendered="#{fn:length(cc.attrs.value) gt cc.attrs.maxCharacters and cc.expanded}" update="#{cc.attrs.name}" process="@this"> <h:outputText value="#{__commonButton.less}"/> </p:commandLink> </h:panelGroup> </composite:implementation> </html> If I place a breakpoint in the toggleExpanded function, it only gets called on the "more" link and not the "less" link. So the question is why doesn't it get called when I click on the "less" link? Shouldn't this code be equivalent to the code above? Is there a better way to save state in a component?

  • NullPointerException when trying to run an applet of multiple classes

    - by Chad
I'm trying to display an applet in an html page. I've had success doing this in the past, but now that I have more than one class in the applet, I seem to get an error every time I try to load the applet in an html page. For a bit, I was writing the html page by hand, but then I realized the applet viewer in netbeans (the IDE I'm coding in) created an html page for you, which is the same as the one I was coding. The application runs error-free when in the applet viewer, but the following message is displayed when I try to run it in the html page: java.lang.NullPointerException at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager.findAppletJDKLevel(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager$AppletExecutionRunnable.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException I tested another small, one class applet and it ran fine in the html page under the same conditions. Any ideas what may be wrong?

  • Set environment variable in Ubuntu

    - by Junho Park
In Ubuntu, I'd like to switch my JAVA_HOME environment variable back and forth between Java 5 and 6. I open a terminal and type in the following to set the JAVA_HOME environment variable: export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun And in that same terminal window, I type the following to check that the environment variable has been updated: echo $JAVA_HOME And I see /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun which is what I'm expecting to see. In addition, I modify ~/.profile and set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun. And now for the problem--when I open a new terminal window and I check my JAVA_HOME environment variable by typing in echo $JAVA_HOME I see that my JAVA_HOME environment variable has been reverted back to Java 6. When I reboot my machine (or log out and back in, I suppose) the JAVA_HOME environment variable is set to Java 5 (presumably because of the modification I made in my ~/.profile). Is there a way around this so that I can change my JAVA_HOME environment without having to log out and back in (AND make that environment variable change stick in all new terminal windows)?

  • When page loads display 1st image text - hide all other text

    - by Jonah1289
Hi I have created http://techavid.com/design/test3.html and when you load the page you see there are 3 images. The sun image is focused(in color), while the others are greyed out until clicked. That is how it should be for the images. Also when you load the page you see under each image it's own text(i.e. 1st: Sun, 2nd: Airplane, 3rd: Nano), but on page load I only want 1st:Sun to display and hide all other text until their respective image is clicked. Any idea how to do this? thanks :) J

  • Is there an algorithm for determining how much daylight there is?

    - by Pharaun
Is there a function/algorithm that allows me to input the latitude and the approximate orbital position of the earth in so that I can determine how long the sun is up? IE during the winter it would show that the sun is only up a few hours in the far north hemisphere. I did some basic Google search and didn't find much so I was thinking that I might have to do some trigonometry that would allow me to calculate how much the earth is inclined or not toward the sun then use that information along with the latitude to figure out how much sunshine a site would be getting.

  • Java RMI cannot connect to host from external client.

    - by Koe
I've been using RMI in this project for a while. I've gotten the client program to connect (amongst other things) to the server when running it over my LAN, however when running it over the internet I'm running into the following exception: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: (private IP of host machine); nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPEndpoint.newSocket(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPChannel.createConnection(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPChannel.newConnection(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.server.UnicastRef.invoke(Unknown Source) at java.rmi.server.RemoteObjectInvocationHandler.invokeRemoteMethod(Unknown Source) at java.rmi.server.RemoteObjectInvocationHandler.invoke(Unknown Source) at $Proxy1.ping(Unknown Source) at client.Launcher$PingLabel.runPing(Launcher.java:366) at client.Launcher$PingLabel.<init>(Launcher.java:353) at client.Launcher.setupContentPane(Launcher.java:112) at client.Launcher.<init>(Launcher.java:99) at client.Launcher.main(Launcher.java:59) Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(Unknown Source) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(Unknown Source) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(Unknown Source) at java.net.SocksSocketImpl.connect(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.connect(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIDirectSocketFactory.createSocket(Unknown Source) at sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIMasterSocketFactory.createSocket(Unknown Source) ... 12 more This error is remeniscent of my early implementation of RMI and I can obtain the error verbatum if I run the client locally without the server program running as well. To me Connection Timed Out means a problem with the server's response. Here's the client initiation: public static void main(String[] args) { try { String host = "<WAN IP>"; Registry registry = LocateRegistry.getRegistry(host, 1099); Login lstub = (Login) registry.lookup("Login Server"); Information istub = (Information) registry.lookup("Game Server"); new Launcher(istub, lstub); } catch (RemoteException e) { System.err.println("Client exception: " + e.toString()); e.printStackTrace(); } catch (NotBoundException e) { System.err.println("Client exception: " + e.toString()); e.printStackTrace(); } } Interestingly enough no Remote Exception is thrown here. Here's the server initiation: public static void main(String args[]) { try { GameServer gobj = new GameServer(); Information gstub = (Information) UnicastRemoteObject.exportObject( gobj, 1099); Registry registry = LocateRegistry.createRegistry(1099); registry.bind("Game Server", gstub); LoginServer lobj = new LoginServer(gobj); Login lstub = (Login) UnicastRemoteObject.exportObject(lobj, 7099); // Bind the remote object's stub in the registry registry.bind("Login Server", lstub); System.out.println("Server ready"); } catch (Exception e) { System.err.println("Server exception: " + e.toString()); e.printStackTrace(); } } Bad practice with the catch(Exception e) I know but bear with me. Up to this stage I know it works fine over the LAN, here's where the exception occurs over the WAN and is the first place a method in the server is called: private class PingLabel extends JLabel { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; public PingLabel() { super(""); runPing(); } public void setText(String text) { super.setText("Ping: " + text + "ms"); } public void runPing() { try { PingThread pt = new PingThread(); gameServer.ping(); pt.setRecieved(true); setText("" + pt.getTime()); } catch (RemoteException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } That's a label placed on the launcher as a ping test. the method ping(), in gameserver does nothing, as in is a null method. It's worth noting also that ports 1099 and 7099 are forwarded to the server machine (which should be obvious from the stack trace). Can anyone see anyting I'm missing/doing wrong? If you need any more information just ask. EDIT: I'm practically certain the problem has nothing to do with my router settings. When disabling my port forwarding settings I get a slightly different error: Client exception: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: (-WAN IP NOT LOCAL IP-); but it appears both on the machine locally connected to the server and on the remote machine. In addition, I got it to work seamlessly when connecting the server straight tho the modem (cutting out the router. I can only conclude the problem is in my router's settings but can't see where (I've checked and double checked the port forwarding page). That's the only answer i can come up with.

  • Oracle Database Smart Flash Cache: Only on Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris

    - by sergio.leunissen
Oracle Database Smart Flash Cache is a feature that was first introduced with Oracle Database 11g Release 2. Only available on Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris, this feature increases the size of the database buffer cache without having to add RAM to the system. In effect, it acts as a second level cache on flash memory and will especially benefit read-intensive database applications. The Oracle Database Smart Flash Cache white paper concludes: Available at no additional cost, Database Smart Flash Cache on Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux has the potential to offer considerable benefit to users of Oracle Database 11g Release 2 with disk-bound read-mostly or read-only workloads, through the simple addition of flash storage such as the Sun Storage F5100 Flash Array or the Sun Flash Accelerator F20 PCIe Card. • Older SAS1 hardware Vs. newer SAS2 hardware

    - by user12620172
I got a question today from someone asking about the older SAS1 hardware from over a year ago that we had on the older 7x10 series. They didn't leave an email so I couldn't respond directly, but I said this blog would be blunt, frank, and open so I have no problem addressing it publicly. A quick history lesson here: When Sun first put out the 7x10 family hardware, the 7410 and 7310 used a SAS1 backend connection to a JBOD that had SATA drives in it. This JBOD was not manufactured by Sun nor did Sun own the IP for it. Now, when Oracle took over, they had a problem with that, and I really can’t blame them. The decision was made to cut off that JBOD and it’s manufacturer completely and use our own where Oracle controlled both the IP and the manufacturing. So in the summer of 2010, the cut was made, and the 7410 and 7310 had a hardware refresh and now had a SAS2 backend going to a SAS2 JBOD with SAS2 drives instead of SATA. This new hardware had two big advantages. First, there was a nice performance increase, mostly due to the faster backend. Even better, the SAS2 interface on the drives allowed for a MUCH faster failover between cluster heads, as the SATA drives were the bottleneck on the older hardware. In September of 2010 there was a major refresh of the rest of the 7000 hardware, the controllers and the other family members, and that’s where we got today’s current line-up of the 7x20 series. So the 7x20 has always used the new trays, and the 7410 and 7310 have used the new SAS2 trays since last July of 2010. Now for the bad news. People who have the 7410 and 7310 from BEFORE the July 2010 cutoff have the models with SAS1 HBAs in them to connect to the older SAS1 trays. Remember, that manufacturer cut all ties with us and stopped making the JBOD, so there’s just no way to get more of them, as they don’t exist. There are some options, however. Oracle support does support taking out the SAS1 HBAs in the old 7410 and 7310 and put in newer SAS2 HBAs which can talk to the new trays. Hey, I didn’t say it was a great option, I just said it’s an option. I fully realize that you would then have a SAS1 JBOD full of SATA drives that you could no longer connect. I do know a client that did this, and took the SAS1 JBOD and connected it to another server and formatted the drives and is using it as a plain, non-7000 JBOD. This is not supported by Oracle support. The other option is to just keep it as-is, as it works just fine, but you just can’t expand it. Then you can get a newer 7x20 series, and use the built-in ZFSSA replication feature to move the data over. Now you can use the newer one for your production data and use the older one for DR, snaps and clones.

  • 2 way SSL between SOA and OSB

    - by Johnny Shum
If you have a need to use 2 way SSL between SOA composite and external partner links, you can follow these steps. Create the identity keystores, trust keystores, and server certificates. Setup keystores and SSL on WebLogic Setup server to use 2 way SSL Configure your SOA composite's partner link to use 2 way SSL Configure SOA engine two ways SSL In this case,  I use SOA and OSB for the test.  I started with a separate OSB and SOA domains.  I deployed two soap based proxies on OSB and two composites on SOA.  In SOA, one composite invokes a OSB proxy service, the other is invoked by the OSB.  Similarly,  in OSB,  one proxy invokes a SOA composite and the other is invoked by SOA. 1. Create the identity keystores, trust keystores and the server certificates Since this is a development environment, I use JDK's keytool to create the stores and use self signing certificate.  For production environment, you should use certificates from a trusted certificate authority like Verisign.    I created a script below to show what is needed in this step.  The only requirement is when creating the SOA identity certificate, you MUST use the alias mykey. Then you navigate to the SSL tab, enter the fields in the identity section and expand the Advanced section.  Since I am using self signing cert on my VM enviornment, I disabled Hostname verification.  In real production system, this should not be the case.   I also enabled the option "Use Server Certs", so that the application uses the server cert to initiate https traffic (it is important to enable this in OSB). Last, you enable SSL listening port in the Server's configuration->General tab. 3.  Setup server to use 2 way SSL If you follow the screen shot in previous step, you can see in the Server->Configuration->SSL->Advanced section, there is an option for Two Way Client Cert Behavior,  you should set this to Client Certs Requested and Enforced. Repeat step 2 and 3 done on OSB.  After all these configurations,  you have to restart all the servers. 4.  Configure your SOA composite's partner link to use 2 way SSL You do this by modifying the composite.xml in your project, locate the partner's link reference and add the property oracle.soa.two.way.ssl.enabled.   <reference name="callosb" ui:wsdlLocation="helloword.wsdl">    <interface.wsdl interface="http://www.examples.com/wsdl/HelloService.wsdl#wsdl.interface(Hello_PortType)"/>    <binding.ws port="http://www.examples.com/wsdl/HelloService.wsdl#wsdl.endpoint(Hello_Service/Hello_Port)"                location="helloword.wsdl" soapVersion="1.1">      <property name="weblogic.wsee.wsat.transaction.flowOption"                type="xs:string" many="false">WSDLDriven</property>   <property name="oracle.soa.two.way.ssl.enabled">true</property>    </binding.ws>  </reference> In OSB, you should have checked the HTTPS required flag in the proxy's transport configuration.  After this,  rebuilt the composite jar file and ready to deploy in the EM console later. 5.  Configure SOA engine two ways SSL Oracle SOA Suite uses both Oracle WebLogic Server and Sun Secure Socket Layer (SSL) stacks for two-way SSL configurations. For the inbound web service bindings, Oracle SOA Suite uses the Oracle WebLogic Server infrastructure and, therefore, the Oracle WebLogic Server libraries for SSL.  This is already done by step 2 and 3 in the previous section. For the outbound web service bindings, Oracle SOA Suite uses JRF HttpClient and, therefore, the Sun JDK libraries for SSL.  You do this by configuring the SOA Engine in the Enterprise Manager Console, select soa-infra->SOA Administration->Common Properties Then click at the link at the bottom of the page:  "More SOA Infra Advances Infrastructure Configuration Properties" and then enter the full path of soa identity keystore in the value field of the KeyStoreLocation attribute.  Click Apply and Return then navigate to the domain->security->credential. Here, you provide the password to the keystore.  Note: the alias of the certficate must be mykey as described in step 1, so you only need to provide the password to the identity keystore.   You accomplish this by: Click Create Map In the Map Name field, enter SOA, and click OK Click Create Key Enter the following details where the password is the password for the SOA identity keystore. 6.  Test and Trouble Shooting Once the setup is complete and server restarted, you can deploy the composite in the EM console and test it.  In case of error,  you can read the server log file to determine the cause of the error.  For example, If you have not setup step 5 and test 2 way SSL, you will see this in the log when invoking OSB from BPEL: java.lang.Exception: oracle.sysman.emSDK.webservices.wsdlapi.SoapTestException: oracle.fabric.common.FabricInvocationException: Unable to access the following endpoint(s): https://localhost.localdomain:7002/default/helloword ####<Sep 22, 2012 2:07:37 PM CDT> <Error> <oracle.soa.bpel.engine.ws> <rhel55> <AdminServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '1' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<anonymous>> <BEA1-0AFDAEF20610F8FD89C5> ............ <11d1def534ea1be0:-4034173:139ef56d9f0:-8000-00000000000002ec> <1348340857956> <BEA-000000> <got FabricInvocationException sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target If you have not enable WebLogic SSL to use server certificate in the console and invoke SOA composite from OSB using two ways SSL, you will see this error: ####<Sep 22, 2012 2:07:37 PM CDT> <Warning> <Security> <rhel55> <AdminServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '6' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <11d1def534ea1be0:-51f5c76a:139ef5e1e1a:-8000-00000000000000e2> <1348340857776> <BEA-090485> <CERTIFICATE_UNKNOWN alert was received from localhost.localdomain - 127.0.0.1.

  • QotD: Peter Wayner on Programming trend No. 1

    - by $utils.escapeXML($entry.author)
Programming trend No. 1: The JVM is not just for Java anymoreA long time ago, Sun created Java and shared the virtual machine with the world. By the time Microsoft created C#, people recognized that the VM didn't have to be limited to one language. Anything that could be transformed into the byte code could use it.Now, it seems that everyone is building their language to do just that. Leave the job of building a virtual machine to Sun/Oracle, and concentrate your efforts on the syntactic bells and structural whistles, goes the mantra today.Peter Wayner in an article on "11 programming trends to watch" at ITWorld.

The validation process certifies that the journal entries are accurate, ensuring that ChartFields values are valid, debits and credits equal out, and inter/intra-units are balanced. Once validated, the entries are processed, ensuring that each journal line posts to the correct target ledger, and then changes the journal status to posted. In this benchmark, the Journal Edit & Post is set up to edit and post both Inter-Unit and Regular multi-currency journals. The benchmark processes 20 million journal lines using AppEngine for edits and Cobol for post processes.
