  Hi, I'm moving a web site from one server to another, and am realizing that I need to move the name servers for the domain as well (they are set to the current host, not to the registrar). So, knowing that email services will stop as soon as I switch the DNS, I'm scrambling to figure out how to archive and make available email data for folks that have mostly been using webmail for the past few years, and may not even have a computer on which to install a client to download the mail to. As the file reaches my system, another program on my system will analyze the file and try to find suspicious behaviors in it. I want to make a system similar to ThreatExpert (www.threatexpert.com). The suspicious data gathered by my program will be sent to Anti-Virus companies for analysis. I want to know whether this program can be written in .NET or as a PHP website. Now, the Package manager isn't showing any update of the following package and some others too : SGML::Parser::OpenSP version 0.991 required--this is only version 0.99 at C:/www/validator/httpd/cgi-bin/check line 61. Q : How can I download the latest package for OpenSP ? Q : Would It be just a matter of click and install the package? • Help with putting Ubuntu on an old laptop

  Hi I dusted off an old laptop from 2004 which has Windows XP. I want to put Ubuntu on it. So, I downloaded the CD image and then burnt it to a disc. I tried starting the laptop and booting from CD but no luck. The CD drive doesn't work in the laptop anymore! So I shared the files on the local server and then accessed the wubi.exe file from within Windows XP, and it proceeded to download something else and install. It then asked me to restart, which I did. I now have a folder C:\ubuntu with a bunch of files in it. How do I get the option to boot to Ubuntu? Sorry, I have never installed a Linux variant before! • How can I configure Adobe Help so it doesn't chatter so much with Adobe's domain?

  Adobe Help that came with Creative Suite 5 and/or Flash Builder Pro is constantly creating network traffic with an Adobe site, www.wip4.adobe.com In the Adobe Help application Preferences, I find that I can change the settings so that I must manually download updates, but apparently the application still likes to call home and chatter non-stop with www.wip4.adobe.com. I could use something like Little Snitch to block all this spyware-like behavior, but I'd really prefer to just change the application's behavior. Is there a hidden setting or configuration file to adjust this behavior to something more appropriate and polite?

• Signal strength and Speed of wireless network

  As shown by Lenovo Access Connections on my Windows 7, the wireless network I am using has a speed of 54.0Mbps but a signal strength of 88%. I am using WinSCP with unlimited speed to download files. WinSCP shows that the speed fluctuates between 100 and 120KiB/s. I was wondering what are the difference between the two speeds from Lenovo Access Connections and WinSCP? How can I tell the actual speed performance, for example, from the above measurements: speeds and the signal strength mentioned in the two places. Thanks and regards!

• My BrowserHelperObject is detected by avg as a malware, what is going wrong.

  Hi i'm building a BrowserHelperObject in c++ for Internet Explorer 8. It is a friendly add-on that gives you fonctionalities in a sidebar. The thing is that when you download the add-on executable from the web, AVG (AntiVirusGuard) detects the executable file as a malware. I did a lot of research and i can't find a way to not being seen as a bad malware. I know that BrowserHelperObject are often seen as malware, but mine is just a good and friendly add-on. Does anyone as info on how antivirus detection works and what can i do to prevent being seen as a malware. What has to be done to the BHO to pass avg detection ? Thank you.

  On my Windows 7 I set windows update to "download updates, but let me choose whether to install them". The problem is I don't get a notification when an optional update is available like definition updates for microsoft security essentials. I have "give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" checked, but I have no notification balloon or icon when there is a new optional update is available. From time to time I open Windows update and then I see I have new optional updates available. How to get notifications for those too?

• What is a preferred method for automatically configuring and setting up an Ubuntu instance?

  I am tired of manually configuring instances of Ubuntu for testing web applications and for setting up workstations. I'm even more frustrated by the issues caused by inconsistent configurations. Is there a method (hopefully not too time consuming to learn and setup) that allows for automation of the setup and configuration of an Ubuntu server or workstation from an ISO. This is primarily for virtual machine instances, but it would be helpful to also create instances on hardware. I am specifically looking for a method to automate the installation of libraries (apt-get), configure services (such as Apache and MySQL), add 3rd party software (download, extract and build), and add libraries to scripting languages (for example, Ruby Gems or CPAN packages for Perl).

  Hello there, I have a remote Server running the VMWare hypervisor. I want to create a virtual machine running Windows Server. However I can't upload mine since my internet connection is slow (would take me days to do the upload). Microsoft has public hard drive images with Windows Server Trial on them, but they work for Virtual PC. I am looking for such files that can be used with VMWare Server. • How do I publish a Power Point Presentation that is High Quality and no lag on the Web?

  I have a ~22MB Power Point Presentation (2007) that I need to be presented on a website for viewing. The file contains audio over several slides and some embedded images. What is the best practices or best way to present the presentation so it gets delivered the quickest and best quality to users? Some ideas I've thought of are: Somehow compress the file (.wav audio files, images) into a smaller presentation and save it as a Power Point Show (pps) so users can download it and use the free Power Point viewer? Convert it to video format (.avi) or something and stream it off the web? (Hopefully freeware) Save it as a web page? (but then it's only viewable in IE I believe)

• Increasing load capacity for growing website

  My website currently runs on a dedicated web server (with LiteSpeed) and dedicated MySQL database server. It's a download based site with a lot of user-generated content, which can be streamed and downloaded, there are also thousands of thumbnails and static content. I'm at the stage where the web server can no longer handle the amount of traffic, so I'm looking a how best to increase capacity considering the large amount of downloadable content. My host suggests mirroring everything on a second web server and distributing the load between them using either DNS Made Easy, or to have my own load balancer (using ldirector) in front of the two web servers. Could anyone advise whether the above method would be the best option? Does any one have any experience with DNS Made Easy and/or ldirector? I'd appreciate any help.

• Good Slideshow DVD programs?

  I want to burn a bunch of pictures to a DVD slideshow. However, Google reveals that there are tons of software programs that claim to do this. Can anyone recommend one of them without me having to download 20 of them only to discover half don't work and the other half are free trials to $29 software that doesn't work either? The only one which I have tried out so far is DVD Slideshow GUI, which is simply a mess of programs. It was free, but it crashed a whole bunch, spit errors at me when i tried to preview and never worked when I tried to export the slideshow to mpg.

• What version of Ubuntu to use for Desktop with 8Gb RAM?

  This may sound as a stupid question, but I am really interested whether Ubuntu Desktop i386 will be able to use all my available RAM. I want to use the latest, non-LTS version, 10.10. It says on the website that it's (i386) the Recommended version. I also recall that Flash Player had issues with 64 bit Linux. Also, the 64 bit version is listed in the Universal USB Installer as amd64. Does this mean that it's using instruction sets specific to AMD CPUs? (I have an Intel) Will it work fine with Intel? So which one to download and install? What to do to be able to use 8Gb of RAM?

• Windows 8 Activation - Product ID: Not available

  The situation: I downloaded Windows 8 RTM from MSDN (I have a subscription). Naturally, I downloaded the product key as well. Windows 8 installed like a dream: lightning fast with no problems. I accepted the product key at the beginning of the install. Next, I thought I would download Updates, but they failed, so I checked the system's activation in Control Panel System. Problem: It returned "Product ID: Not available." There's nothing under "Windows activation" that I can click on, no blue links. I had a 'Chat' with MSDN, who introduced me to SLUI.exe. On Windows 8 it did nothing. (On Windows 7 it is supposed to bring up the Activation Menu). I phoned the Microsoft Activation number, they told me to contact MSDN. MSDN left the 'chat' by telling me to contact Microsoft! Hmm... I wonder if anyone at SuperUser can help?

  Recently i have some problems accessing websites. When i try to access it says This webpage is not available. I tried accessing the site through FireFox, Internet Explorer and Chrome. I also tried with using a web proxy but still the same problem. This problem is only in my Desktop PC, all the websites works fine in my laptop Currently i cant access, yahoo.com download.com bing.com proxy.org daniweb.com aol.com and many forums I check with the host file but nothing is blocked in that. • Apps not starting on Mac OS X Lion

  I have a strange problem, some apps that I download do not launch. There are 2 scenarios The application starts but keeps bouncing, once I click the bouncing icon in the tray it disappears. The process also closes in activity monitor The application fails to start, how ever many times I launch it, it refuses. • Limit number of simultaneous connections squid makes to a single server

  Note: I am asking about outbound concurrent connection limits, not inbound, which is sufficiently covered on existing questions Modern browsers typically open a large number of simultaneous connections, to take advantage of the fact that TCP fairly shares bandwidth between connections. Of course, this doesn't result in fair sharing between users, so some servers have started penalizing hosts which open too many connections. This limit can be configured client-side (e.g. IE MaxConnectionsPerServer, Firefox network.http.max-connections-per-server), but the method differs for each browser and version, and many users aren't competent to adjust it themselves. So we turn to a squid transparent HTTP proxy for central management of HTTP download. How can the number of simultaneous connections from squid to a remote webserver be limited, so the webserver doesn't perceive it as abuse of concurrent connections? Ideally the limit would be per source address. Squid should accept virtually unlimited concurrent requests from the client browser, and issue them sequentially to the remote server, only N at a time, delaying (but not dropping) the others.

• Process for migrating Dropbox to SpiderOak

  I want to move my data from dropbox to SpiderOak. I have 3 computers running dropbox. But I have a poor WAN connection with very limited upload bandwidth. So I thought I do as first step install the dropbox client on my server on the internet an download there my data from dropbox. Then after this I upload/backup my data from this server with a broadband connection to SpiderOak. After the backup is completed I setup the sync between my 3 computers so that they will not have to upload the data again. Will this process will work so that I don't have to upload my data again over my WAN connection at home?

• Shortcut to checkout Sharepoint documents?

  I find myself in a lot of situations where I need to download the latest version of a document from sharepoint, or checkout a sharepoint document, make a small change, and then check the document back in. I find the website interface to be quite clunky for stuff like this, largely because I use firefox (bad with sharepoint) and keyboard launchers (instead of mousing around.) Is there anyway to make a shortcut I can just run to checkout a specific sharepoint document without going through the web browser? Am I better off using Colligo Contributor or similar software to accomplish this? Can anyone recommend any software Sharepoint clients?

  I need to use this utility to change one of the parameters of my new WD hard drive: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=609&sid=113&lang=en It has truly unreadable instructions: Extract wdidle3.exe onto a bootable medium (floppy, CD-RW, network drive, etc.). Boot the system with the hard drive to be updated to the medium where the update file was extracted to. Run the file by typing wdidle3.exe at the command prompt and press enter. I understand that this bootable medium should be some version of DOS? How can I make my USB stick a bootable medium compatible with this utility (I don't have a diskette drive)? I have Windows 7 and Debian Linux installed.

• Create a Windows 7 System Repair ISO?

  According to the Microsoft website I can run "Create a system repair disc" from the start menu to burn a recovery Disc. However, there are many situations (including not having a disk drive) where this cannot be done. My goal is to create a bootable USB drive according to this guide but their method to do so without burning a physical disc includes downloading an ISO from "somebody's" website. I don't know who "somebody" is and I feel it is reasonable to not boot something I can't verify as being untampered with. To the best of my knowledge, Microsoft does not host a recovery disc ISO for download as this would be the easiest solution. So my problem is that I'd like to circumvent Microsofts "burn to disc" option with a "burn to ISO" through any reasonable means.

  I want to build a file server to make users able to upload and download mostly multimedia, but also common files. Right now I have an Arch installation with vsftpd and I'm about to install miniDLNA for multimedia sharing. The only problem is that FTP doesn't seem to fit my needs, because almost always makes the users need a client such as FileZilla to make the server friendly. I have been looking for a web frontend for vsftp but apart from management interfaces there's nothing. I need a frontend accessible from a browser through which users can navigate throught the folders in an easier and more elegant way than the plain FTP display that browsers make by default. It should be able to let users upload files and, as an awesome extra, let them play the multimedia directly on the browser. For this, I am willing to dump FTP if needed, I've heard about HTTP File Servers but don't know too much about it. I could code everything myself, but there's gotta be something out there already.

• 10 System LAN latency with ADSL modem as gateway

  Recently I expanded LAN in my office from 3 to 10 computers. Structure star topology, one ADSL Modem connected to One Switch which is again connected to 10 computers. Also we have Wifi device Netgear which is connected from switch. ADSL Modem acts as the DHCP Server, all the system will have default gateway IP (ADSL Modem's IP) Network latency is now become very high, All the chat severs disconnect often like google talk, skype etc, also internet become very very slow. when all the computer turned on. We have 4 Mbps Download and 100 Kbps upload Net speed. Its look like ADSL Modem cannot able to handle all the connections. I tried to setup a system as default gateway which will connect to modem, not sure how to do this. Please advice on this.

• Windows 7 RC sleep on Thinkpad R51?

  I have an old Thinkpad R51 and Windows 7 just doesn't give me a Sleep option. I suspect it's because it's running the default VGA driver. The machine has an Intel 855 GME graphics adapter but there doesn't seem to be a WDDM driver available publicly. Lenovo's driver download page just says that drivers for Vista are bundled with the OS. Apparently, they aren't bundled with Windows 7 as it always defaults to a generic VGA driver. Is there a reliable way to get Sleep to work on this machine?
