  • How to free up space on /boot? [closed]

  • Blackberry Enterprise Server - Not running?

    My BlackBerry enterprise server recently stopped forwarding messages to devices. In fact, the server claims that the last time it communicated with all the devices associated with it, was on Thursday night (4 nights ago.) The catch is this, the Exchange server is running properly (or as properly as Exchange can run :) ) The SQL server seems to be running properly. And the Blackberry Enterprise server seems to be running correctly. Other than the fact that the server has not communicated with any device since Thursday, and the fact that I am not getting messages, there appears to be nothing wrong. How do I get these message to be forwarded to devices again? I have restarted the BES services in the order suggested by the BlackBerry folks to no avail.

  • Python or C server hosting for indie development

    I've written a lot of the game, but it's singleplayer. Now we want to join up and play together. I want to host it like an MMO, but haven't got any personal ability to host (no static IPs or direct access to a reasonable router that will allow me to port forward) so I wondered if there were any free / very cheap hosting solutions for people developing games that need to develop their MMO side. In my case it's a world server for a 2D game where the world map can be changed by the players. So, GAE sounds expensive, as there would be quite a few updates per second (I heard they bill for data updates but not for download, but can't find refernce to billing anywhere on the FAQs) I'd prefer to be able to write the server in python as that's what the game is written in (with pygame), but C is fine, and maybe even better as it might prompt me to write some more performant world generator code ;)

    I'm trying to get a Yaws web server working on a cloud service (Amazon AWS). I've compilled and installed a local copy on the server. My problem is that I can't get Yaws to run while running on either port 8000 or port 80.     Hi There is this weird problem going on with putting ssl on the server I keep on getting this error in the terminal after I already created the .key and .crt files but it keeps on saying I placed the files in the conf.d directory and I already configured the thing so there is something that I did wrong there I also used openssl to create a .key and the .crt files thanks for the help if anyone can service apache2 reload Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/conf.d/www.domainname.crt Invalid command '-----BEGIN', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration Action 'conftest' failed.   • Why is FTP server slowing down the web server?

    I am running Apache and Filezilla ftp server in Windows. I've been noticing for the last few months that whenever I start up the ftp server, the websites start to run slow. When I shut off the ftp server, the websites start speeding up again. Sometimes I need to restart Apache server after shutting off the ftp server to speed up the websites. I only start ftp server whenever I need to allow remote file transfers. Other than that it's always off. I'm not sure what's happening and where to look.

  • Losing internet connectivity on server after installing LogMeIn Hamachi (with server set as gateway node)

    Our domain controller (SBS 2003) completely lost internet and network connectivity yesterday after I remotely installed LogMeIn Hamachi on it and set it to be a gateway node- in an attempt to create a VPN link between the server and a remote site. I had to go in to the office to resolve the problem as, unsurprisingly, my own remote access to the server was also lost. I was only able to restore network connectivity by deleting a virtual network adapter Hamachi created when making the server the gateway node (called "Hamachi bridge" I believe), then rebooting the server. This is a repeatable problem. Every time I try to get this to work, it just takes the server offline. Why would this bridge affect regular TCP/IP connectivity on the NIC in this way? I have tried a "hub-and-spoke" configuration between the server and our PC at a remote site (server set as hub, remote site as spoke). This caused no such problems with general internet connectivity, and file transfer worked well between the two computers. However, there was a DNS issue with the VPN between the two sites- resulting in Active Directory not being able to communicate between them (could not log on using domain user accounts at remote site if they were not already cached on that machine). I only tried a "gateway" network as LogMeIn support told me: If you can get the Active Directory to work it would only be through a "Gateway" network type with the server acting as the Gateway Node. You would configure the gateway settings on the server in the Hamachi client on that machine to push whatever IP's/DNS settings you prefer and at that point AD would be able (all things being equal) communicate to the client node when it attaches. We do not have any ActiveDirectory configuration info as that's outside the scope of our support. I hope this helps. It would be fantastic if I could get Active Directory to work over a Hamachi VPN connection, without worrying about the server going offline in this way. Does anyone have any ideas how I should proceed, or any theories as to what is going on when I try to use the "gateway" network type? I want to try to narrow down what is going on here.

  • Where should SQL/DB Queries be encapsulated in a software system?

    I frequently write small applications (either web based or otherwise) that require heavy database usage. i've attempted various ways of handling where to put the actual sql queries (sort of ad-hoc ORM systems). These include: Models that build themselves up - and only allowing SQL to be inside of a model. A sort of factory style method where the models are built by a factory class that is allowed to know about SQL. A third entity that maps models based on their fields/keys into the database and generates SQL code on the fly based on this. Is there a common knowledge of which method is best? Or another way I have missed? Clearly a lot of it will be based on the context of the system itself, which for me is usually to produce lightweight tools or utility frameworks. In experimenting, I've never found any of them that feel intuitively "right" and not clunky, but I also do not want to go for a full framework such as Django or Ruby - both because the tools I create are in a variety of languages and because they usually do not warrant that level of surrounding footprint.

    I am running ubuntu server, and trying to get pulseaudio working. I followed the instructions at How do I run PulseAudio in a headless server installation? At the moment, pacmd list-cards is reporting 0 cards, and I suspect this has something to do with the fact aplay is only playing sound when I run it as sudo. As far as I can tell, this means the the kernel module for my sound card is in fact loaded. I have already tried adding my user to the "audio" group, but this does not help. My questions are 1) How do I get aplay to work without running it as sudo 2) Is there anything special I need to do to make pulseaudio work at this point.

  • Is comparing an OO compiler to a SQL compiler/optimizer valid?

    I'm now doing a lot of SQL development at my new job where as before I was doing Object Oriented desktop app stuff. I keep running across very large scripts (thousands of lines) and wanting to refactor in some way. I am seeing that SQL is a different sort of beast and it's probably fine to have these big scripts for the most part but while explaining this to me people are also insisting that the whole idea of refactoring is bad. That stuff like the .NET compiler are actually burdened by refactored code and that a big wall of code is more efficient and better design than code designed for reuse, readability and scalability. The other argument is that OO compilers are almost dangerously inefficient and don't have efficient memory management or runs too many CPU instructions compared to older "simpler" compilers and compared to SQL. Are these valid complaints? Even if some compiler like a C compiler is modestly more "efficient" (whatever that means on this high of a level without seeing code) would you want to write applications in C over C# or Java? Is comparing an OO compiler to a SQL compiler/optimizer even valid?

  • Looking for a simple to use email server that can be programmatically (preferably remotely) used

    I've been poking around the internet for much of the day, but I can't seem to find a good server to fit my needs. What I need is a simple to use and deploy (pref open source) lightweight email server that I can create users on programmaticly that has IMAP or POP support. I'd prefer something with an existing service interface, but if I have to write a REST API on top of an easy to use API, that's acceptable. The purpose of this tool will be to allow a test automation framework to create new email accounts and retrieve email sent to those addresses. I need text, html, and possibly attachment support as well. Perhaps it's my noobishness, but I can't really suss out the details from the documentation on the servers available out there to figure out which fit my needs.

    I am running ubuntu 12.04server, and trying to get pulseaudio working. I followed the instructions at How do I run PulseAudio in a headless server installation? The permissions on the devices in /dev/snd are all crw-rw---T 1 root audio 116 I noticed on an ubuntu 12.04 desktop, that the file permissions are slightly different. On the desktop, they are crw-rw---T+ 1 root audio 116 My questions are 1) How do I get aplay to work without running it as sudo on the server 2) Is there anything special I need to do to make pulseaudio work at this point.

  • What ports does Advantage Database Server need?

    I have an application which uses ADS and I am attempting to deploy it in a Windows network environment with a rather restrictive firewall. I am having a problem configuring firewall ports appropriately. ADS lives on \\server, and it's listening on port 1234. When \\client tries to connect to \\server\tables, I get Error 6420 (Discovery process failed). When \client tries to connect to \\server:1234\tables, I get error 6097, bad IP address specified in the connection path. \\server is pingable from \\client, and I can telnet to \server:1234. If I try to connect from a client machine inside the firewall, either connection path works fine. It seems there must be something else I need to open in the firewall. Any ideas? Thanks, Aaron. Edit: I should have specified that the firewall is open to \\server:1234 specifically for TCP traffic. Is UDP involved here in some way?

What I vaguely dream of is to use my own DNS server as Primary DNS server and Google public DNS as secondary DNS server. I would like to build my own DNS server gradually by editing the configuration files (If it can be automated it will be great, but have no clues there). Sometimes it sounds like a stupid idea to me, but I am fine with editing config file for each site I want to add to my DNS server. Any pointers/suggestion is welcome.

  • Connect Team Foundation Service/TFS 2012 with Visual Studio 2010 &amp; Visual Studio 2008

    Hello, Microsoft finally released the Team Foundation Service in late October 2012 after its long time in the preview phase. I was already using the TFS Preview which was free but I was happy to see Microsoft releasing the Team Foundation Service also FREE for upto 5 users. Isn't that great news? I know there are bunch of other free source control repositories (Github, Bitbucket, SVN etc.) out there but I somehow like TFS better. Also the other good thing about the final release was that I didn’t had to do any kind of migration of my code from preview to final release version. Just changed the TFS connection URL and it worked like a charm. Anyways, if you are a startup with small team and need some awesome Source Control along with all the good Project Management, Continuous Integration (Build, Test, Deploy), Team Collaboration, Agile/Scrum planning etc. features than Team Foundation Service is your answer. Microsoft has not yet released their pricing for more than 5 users and will be releasing it sometime in early 2013. What if as of now you have a team more than 5 users and you want to use Team Foundation Service, the good news is you can use it for FREE but when they release the final pricing, you will have to transition to the paid plan. Lot of story, getting to the point, connecting to Team Foundation Service with Visual Studio 2012 is straight forward and would work out of the box but it wont for previous versions of Visual Studio. You will have to upgrade to the latest service pack first and than install the forward compatibility pack. (1st : Service Packs & 2nd: Forward Compatibility packs) For Visual Studio 2010: Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1. Visual Studio 2010 forward compatibility for TFS 2012 and Team Foundation Service.         For Visual Studio 2008: Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1.   • Handling packet impersonating in client-server model online game

    I am designing a server-client model game library/engine. How do I, and should I even bother to handle frequent update packet possible impersonating? In my current design anyone could copy a packet from someone else and modify it to execute any non-critical action for another client. I am currently compressing all datagrams so that adds just a tad of security. Edit: One way I thought about was to send a unique "key" to the verified client every x_time and then the client has to add that to all of it's update packets until a new key is sent. Edit2: I should have mentioned that I am not concerned about whether the actions described in the packet are available to the client at the time, this is all checked by the server which I thought was obvious. I am only concerned about someone sending packets for another client.

  • Win 2k3 server's network problem.

    I'm running 4 of Win2k3 64bit servers in the same subnet. It's been more than an year that I've running them without a problem. Recently, I kept losing the connection to one of the server. Let's say it's 'server A' which has a problem. Losing the connection means that I can't access to server A from the other servers. I've checked if server A has any internet connection problems or are there any abnomal event logs in the eventvwr - but haven't found any problems. The problem usually resolved if I restart the server again. But as time goes by, it keeps happen again and again. I can't afford to restart the server every time, and I really want to find out the reason. Can anyone help me out? Let me know if you guys need any of more information.

  • How to get working cups command line tools on Server 14.04

    It looks like some of the commands like lpr and lprm have broken versions that don't work with cups. These commands worked properly on 10.04. lpr for cups has an -o option, but no lpr is intalled when cups is installed, and the lpr installed with apt-get install lpr does not have the -o option and does not appear to be the cups version of lpr. man lpr shows BSD General Commands Manual at the top, where man lpr on the Ubuntu 10.04 server said Apple, inc in the same spot. which leads me to believe the "wrong" lpr is in the "lpr" package or package names got moved around. There is also a lprng package, but trying to install it wants to remove cups and cups-client. lprm also returns lprm: PrinterName: unknown printer when PrinterName is in fact a valid printer installed with cups and does appear in lpstat -t. How do I get the proper cups versions of lpr working on Server 14.04?

  • Ubuntu Server 13.04.3 doesn't boot w/ EFI

    I'm was actually trying to install Debian Wheezy (which failed horribly), then tried Ubuntu Server 13.04 and got the exact same problems as w/ Debian: After installing, the system doesn't show any boot-selection and tells me "Missing operating system". My setup is pretty simple: /dev/sdc - 1TB HDD (+ 3 other NTFS HDD) /dev/sdc1 - EFI, 100MiB, bootable /dev/sdc4 - ext4, 65GiB, Ubuntu/Debian (sdc2 & 3 are NTFS w/ data. Sorta lacking SATA-ports, therefore no OS-only HDD/SSD) Grub seems to be installed on /dev/sdc4, /dev/sdc1 only contains a "EFI"-folder. Not sure if thats correct. I used UNetbootin on OS X to make an 8GB USB-drive bootable and used the standard amd64-iso, running a perl-script wich eradicates a couple of naming-errors (different story). Using this tutorial and actually disabling UEFI and using legacy only dind't work either, the usb drive dind't even bother to boot. I'm pretty clueless here. I'd just like to install and use either Debian oder Ubuntu Server!

  • Data from a table in 1 DB needed for filter in different DB...

    I have a Win Form, Data Entry, application that uses 4 seperate Data Bases. This is an occasionally connected app that uses Merge Replication (SQL 2005) to stay in Sync. This is working just fine. The next hurdle I am trying to tackle is adding Filters to my Publications. Right now we are replicating 70mbs, compressed, to each of our 150 subscribers when, truthfully, they only need a tiny fraction of that. Using Filters I am able to accomplish this(see code below) but I had to make a mapping table in order to do so. This mapping table consists of 3 columns. A PrimaryID(Guid), WorkerName(varchar), and ClientID(int). The problem is I need this table present in all FOUR Databases in order to use it for the filter since, to my knowledge, views or cross-db query's are not allowed in a Filter Statement. What are my options? Seems like I would set it up to be maintained in 1 Database and then use Triggers to keep it updated in the other 3 Databases. In order to be a part of the Filter I have to include that table in the Replication Set so how do I flag it appropriately. Is there a better way, altogether?   • Ubuntu Server won't boot with "zip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly" error

    I am trying to boot lucid server on my new VPS but its giving me some problems. The boot gets to a point where it hangs. At this point it says: No such file `modules-2.6.31-20-server-amd64.tar.bz2' zip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover data from undamaged sections of corrupted files. tar: Child returned status 2 tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors Module installation failed. Does anyone have any ideas how I might be able to fix this? Sorry that this is rather vague!
