  • How do I get these permissions working right so Apache can work with the files?

    - by cosmicbdog
I am having a go at setting up my own Apache and can't seem to get my head around the permissions. Lets say I grab a file from somewhere off the web and it has permission of 600. I then upload this file via ftp to a user directory, which is also an apache virtual site, and so this file retains this permission of 600. This means that the user can read this file, but Apache can't: it will be forbidden. What is the most simple solution so that apache can read + write whatever files end up in the users directory? Can apache be granted some sort of root power over files in a directory?

  • Where has Cloud Computing gone?

    - by Srikar
I have been hearing about this term for close to 5 years now. I have read about services from Microsoft (Azure), but I have never saw it adopted in the mainstream usage. The thing I am trying to understand is this: What happened to cloud computing? Is the infrastructure at present insufficient to implement this? Is it still in its infancy? Is it being used in other forms, like all the services Google seems to provide (plus Plus Google OS, etc)? If it has failed, then why?

  • Extracting a .zip file into Program Files (x86)

    - by Evan
I just got 64 bit Vista system after being on Windows XP. I'm trying to get all my useful programs up to date, and I've recently had a problem extracting files into the 32-bit program files directory (Program Files (x86)). I'm using 7zip to extract the eclipse-SDK-3.5-win32.zip directory into C:\Program Files (x86) Unfortunately, every time I've tried to do this, 7Zip reports can not open output file C:\Program Files (x86)\eclipse\... I've been able to extract it to C:\ and then move it, I'm assuming there's some protection on the Program Files directory that is causing some problems. Any suggestions?

  • How to get Apache to follow symlink instead of downloading it?

    - by user792445
I am just using the standard apache config file which mentions that it follows symlinks, but when I hit the url http://localhost/test it downloads the symlink file instead of following it. What config do I need to change to get apache to follow the symlink instead of downloading it? This is an ls on the directory: $ ls -al total 10 drwx------+ 1 SYSTEM SYSTEM 0 Oct 20 10:55 . drwx------+ 1 SYSTEM SYSTEM 0 Aug 26 12:27 .. -rw-r--r--+ 1 me None 47 Oct 20 10:14 index.html lrwxrwxrwx 1 me None 29 Oct 19 17:10 test -> /home/me/projects/test This is in my apache config file: <Directory "D:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory>

  • SCCM Client Push FAIL - Win2000 box

    - by ajp
When trying to install the SCCM client onto a Windows 2000 box, the install fails. The install script is run through a batch file (CONTENTS: \mdop\SCCM_client\ccmsetup.exe /mp:MDOP /logon smssitecode=MID smsslp=MDOP) hosted on a public area of the network. This script has worked for all machines (mostly Win2003 Server). I've tried enabling all the common services it requires (BITS, IIS Admin, Windows Installer), but it still only runs for a second or two then quits. Here's the piece of the log file where it errors out: [LOG[Couldn't get directory list for directory 'http://MDOP/CCM_Client/ClientPatch'. This directory may not exist.]LOG]! time="13:55:53.618+300" date="06-30-2009" component="ccmsetup" context="" type="0" thread="1676" file="ccmsetup.cpp:6054" Full Log: http://paste-it.net/public/gb11732/

  • Help with user login on Centos 5.6

    - by Owen
I added a user for the sole purpose of using SU for root. I did not allow the creation of a home directory when creating the user. So now when I login as this user I get the following: Could not chdir to home directory /home/MYUSERNAME: No such file or directory Couldn't resolve homedir for current user at - line 0 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted. Couldn't resolve homedir for current user at - line 0 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted. Is this an error, and if so how do I fix it so it is not looking to "resolve" the homedir?

  • Configure users and groups for Git

    - by Peter Penzov
I want to create Git server on which every developer can commit code with his own linux account. The Git repository is initialized under the directory /opt/git_repo.git I created a group developers which owns the directory git_repo.git. Then I created three users which are part of the same group - DeA, DevB, DevC. I created a soft link into each developer home directory which points to the /opt/git_repo.git location. The problem is that when a user connects to the Git server and use the soft link to access the files he cannot do it. Can you help me what are the proper steps and commands to configure the repository?

  • Need ability to set configuration options using single method which will work across multiple server configurations.

    - by JMC Creative
I'm trying to set post_max_size and upload_max_filesize in a specific directory for a web application I'm building. I've tried the following in a .htaccess file in the script directory. (upload.php is the script that needs the special configuration) <Files upload.php> php_value upload_max_filesize 9998M php_value post_max_size 9999M </Files> That doesn't work at all. I've tried it without the scriptname specificity, where the only thing in the .htaccess file is: php_value upload_max_filesize 9998M php_value post_max_size 9999M This works on my pc-based xampp server, but throws a "500 Misconfiguration Error" on my production server. I've tried also creating a php.ini file in the directory with: post_max_size = 9999M upload_max_filesize = 9998M But this also doesn't always work. And lastly using the following in the php script doesn't work either, supposedly because the settings have already been compiled by the time the parser reaches the line (?): <?php ini_set('post_max_size','9999M'); ini_set('upload_max_filesize','9998M'); ?>

  • vsftpd per group configuration

    - by roqs
I want to configure a vsftpd in a per group fashion instead of per user configuration. It's possible? Suppose i have two groups: groupA and groupB, so my goal is: users in groupA have permission (wrx) to all files in directory dir1 users in groupB have permission (wrx) to all files in directory dir2 users of the system have permission (wrx) to all files in directory dir3 For example: ftp@test:/home/ftp# ls -l drwxrwxr-x 16 root groupA 4096 Jun 3 10:45 dir1 drwxrwxr-x 2 root groupB 4096 Jun 3 10:56 dir2 drwxrwxr-x 8 root users 4096 Jun 3 11:01 dir3 How to do that with vsftpd?

  • Backing Up User Data when data is not in use. Should I be concerned?

    - by jberryman
This may be a dumb question. I would like to use duplicity to make backups to Amazon S3 of directories, each of which contains a different user's data. Each directory could be written to at any time. So I have two questions: Should I be concerned that a scheduled backup of a directory might occur in the middle of data being written to files in the directory, resulting in a corrupted backup? And if that is a valid concern, how would I go about temporarily delaying an operation while IO was happening, to try to minimize that effect. Thanks for the advice

  • ModRewrite Domain

    - by Mike Knoop
I've done a little research into ModRewrite rules and conditions but have not been able to find a satisfactory set of rules/conds which achieve the effect I'm looking for. Essentially, I have a directory on domain A (http://www.domaina.com/dir/) which I would like to redirect to a different directory on domain B (http://www.domainb.com/diff_dir/). Note that I only want to apply the rewrite rule if the user is attempting to access /dir/ on domaina. If they are accessing a different directory or root I do not want to rewrite the URL. Thank you!

  • SSH running slow on cygwin

    - by Robb
I have a Windows XP box with Cygwin running and the SSH service. I'd like to use PuTTY to connect to it from other computers on the local network. PuTTY works fine and I actually get a relatively speedy login prompt. But anytime I do an 'ls' on the root directory ('/') it typically doesn't complete, like the command is hung. Other PuTTY sessions suffer as well, no matter what i'm doing (even just an 'ls' on my home directory might take awhile or not finish). It is like a deadlock occurred somewhere in the ssh/cygwin system. The root directory does contain the 'cygdrive' folder which is the contents of the host computer. Could this be causing the slowdown?
