  • .NET proxy detection

    I am having an issue with .NET detecting the proxy settings configured through internet explorer. I'm writing a client application that supports proxies, and to test I set up an array of 9 squid servers to support various authentication methods for HTTP and HTTPs. I have a script that updates IE to whichever configuration I choose (which proxy, detection via "Auto", PAC, or hardcode). I have tried the 3 methods below to detect the IE configuration through .NET. On occassion I notice that .NET picks up the wrong set of proxy servers. IE has the correct settings, and if I browse the web with IE, I can see I am hitting the correct servers via wireshark. WebRequest.GetSystemWebProxy().GetProxy(destination); GlobalProxySelection.Select.GetProxy(destination); WebRequest.DefaultWebProxy Here are the following tips I have: My script sets a PAC file on a webserver, and updates the configuration in IE, then clears IE's cache .NET seems to get "stuck" on a certain proxy configuration, and I have to set another configuration for .NET to realize there was a change. Occasionally it seems to pick some random set of servers (I'm sure they're not random, just a set of servers I used once and are in some cached PAC file or something). As in, I will check the proxy for the destination "https://www.secure.com" and I may have IE configured for and thus expect to get "http://squidserver:18" and instead it will return "http://squidserver:28" (port 18 runs NTLM, 28 runs without authentication). All the squid servers work. This does not appear to be an issue on XP, only Vista, 2003, and windows 7. Hardcoding the proxy servers in IE ALWAYS works Time always solves the issue - if I leave the computer for about 20 or 30 minutes and come back, .NET picks up the correct proxy settings, as if a cached PAC script expired.

  • Confused as to use a class or a function: Writing XML files using lxml and Python

    Hi. I need to write XML files using lxml and Python. However, I can't figure out whether to use a class to do this or a function. The point being, this is the first time I am developing a proper software and deciding where and why to use a class still seems mysterious. I will illustrate my point. For example, consider the following function based code I wrote for adding a subelement to a etree root. from lxml import etree root = etree.Element('document') def createSubElement(text, tagText = ""): etree.SubElement(root, text) # How do I do this: element.text = tagText createSubElement('firstChild') createSubElement('SecondChild') As expected, the output of this is: <document> <firstChild/> <SecondChild/> </document> However as you can notice the comment, I have no idea how to do set the text variable using this approach. Is using a class the only way to solve this? And if yes, can you give me some pointers on how to achieve this?

    There are bogus errors hanging around, but at runtime everything works. Right now, I'm getting Cannot locate resource 'img/icons/silk/arrow_refresh.png'. However, I need to take into account what the time is right now. For Example: Now it is 1:00 PM Time1=5:00 AM Time 2 = 12:00 PM Time 3= 4:00 PM Time 4 = 6:00 PM So since the time is 1:00PM, I need to find the difference between Time 2 and Time 3 Now is there a smarter way other than reflection to determine this? Should i add something in my class

  • Update a tableView with a plist took from another table

    Background: I have a tab bar application, which has a tableView as the "heart" of the app. It loads data from a plist and, through a button that checks if there are any updates on the remote plist file, updates the local plist with the remote contents. Then, i have another tableView, that should display only those plist items that have a bool value set to YES. Now i want to add a button to the second table that reloads the plist took from the first table. Expected: When i update the local plist from the first table and when i press the button on the second table, the 2nd table is supposed to update and show the cells with that bool value set to YES. (Note: I set YES as default to some items on plist). What happens: The first table updates its content from remote. The second table shows the old items with the value set to YES. When i press the button to refresh data, it reads the plist fine (by logging it, it has the same contents of the first table -only those set to YES-),but it doesn't update data even if i have [self.tableView reloadData];.     I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text.   • Why do my CouchDB databases grow so fast?

    I was wondering why my CouchDB database was growing to fast so I wrote a little test script. This script changes an attributed of a CouchDB document 1200 times and takes the size of the database after each change. After performing these 1200 writing steps the database is doing a compaction step and the db size is measured again. In the end the script plots the databases size against the revision numbers. The benchmarking is run twice: The first time the default number of document revision (=1000) is used (_revs_limit). The second time the number of document revisions is set to 1. The first run produces the following plot The second run produces this plot For me this is quite an unexpected behavior. In the first run I would have expected a linear growth as every change produces a new revision. When the 1000 revisions are reached the size value should be constant as the older revisions are discarded. After the compaction the size should fall significantly. In the second run the first revision should result in certain database size that is then keeps during the following writing steps as every new revision leads to the deletion of the previous one. I could understand if there is a little bit of overhead needed to manage the changes but this growth behavior seems weird to me. Can anybody explain this phenomenon or correct my assumptions that lead to the wrong expectations?

    I'm writing a document-based client application and I need a DOM or WPF-like, but non-visual model that: Is a tree composed of elements Can accept an unlimited number of custom properties that get/set any CLR type, including collections. Can inherit their values from their parent Can inherit their default values from an ancestor Can be derived/calculated from other properties, ancestors, or descendants Support event bubbling / tunneling There will be a core set of properties but other plugins may add their own or even create custom documents Supports full inspection by the owning document in order to persist the tree and attributes in an XML format. I realize that's a tall order but I was really hoping there would be something out there to help me get started. Unfortunately WPF DependencyObjects are too closed, proprietary, and coupled to WPF to be of any use as a document model. My needs also have a strong resemblance to the HTML DOM but I haven't been able to find any clean DOM implementations that could be decoupled from HTML or ported to .NET. My current platform is .NET/C# but if anyone knows of anything that might be useful for inspiration or embedding, regardless of the platform, I'd love to know.

How do I delete the additional links without clearing the readonly bit. It's safe to assume: The files have more than one link to them You are not deleting the name owned by TFS There are no potential race conditions You have ACL full control for the files The machine will not lose power, nor will your program be killed unless it takes way too long. It's not safe to assume: The readonly bit is set (don't set it if its not) You can leave the readonly bit clear if you encounter an error and it was initially set Do not migrate to superuser -- if migrated there the answer is impossible because no standard tool can do this.

    Okay, So I am writing an OpenCart extension that must allow Arabic characters when posting data. Whenever I post ????? the print_r($_POST) returns with this: u0645u0631u062du0628u0627 I check the HTML header and it has this: <meta charset="UTF-8" /> I checked the PHP file that triggers all SQL queries and it has this code: mysql_query("SET NAMES 'utf8'", $this->link); mysql_query("SET CHARACTER SET utf8", $this->link); mysql_query("SET CHARACTER_SET_CONNECTION=utf8", $this->link); This is in my form tag: <form action="<?php echo $action; ?>" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" id="form" accept-charset="utf-8"> I can't think of what else I am doing wrong. The rest of the OpenCart framework supports UTF8 and arabic characters. It is just in this instance where I can't post anything arabic? Could someone please help me? Many Thanks Peter

  • How to get `gcc` to generate `bts` instruction for x86-64 from standard C?

    Inspired by a recent question, I'd like to know if anyone knows how to get gcc to generate the x86-64 bts instruction (bit test and set) on the Linux x86-64 platforms, without resorting to inline assembly or to nonstandard compiler intrinsics. Related questions: Why doesn't gcc do this for a simple |= operation were the right-hand side has exactly 1 bit set? How to get bts using compiler intrinsics or the asm directive Portability is more important to me than bts, so I won't use and asm directive, and if there's another solution, I prefer not to use compiler instrinsics. EDIT: The C source language does not support atomic operations, so I'm not particularly interested in getting atomic test-and-set (even though that's the original reason for test-and-set to exist in the first place). If I want something atomic I know I have no chance of doing it with standard C source: it has to be an intrinsic, a library function, or inline assembly. (I have implemented atomic operations in compilers that support multiple threads.)

But if it is not Monday, excel will generate 3 emails with only 1 attachment/link. My issue is that In my excel spreadsheet there is a tab called Actual and it is populated with a date. If this date within my excel spreadsheet is changed on a monday, to any other day of the week, my vba code will still treat the program as if it is Monday. I need an IF statement that will allow the 3 emails with the 3 attachements/links to generate given the date typed in on the Actual tab within my spreadsheet. I hope this isnt confusing.

  • How do I write unescaped XML outside of a CDATA

    Hello I am trying to write XML data using Stax where the content itself is HTML If I try xtw.writeStartElement("contents"); xtw.writeCharacters("<b>here</b>"); xtw.writeEndElement(); I get this <contents>&lt;b&gt;here&lt;/b&gt;</contents> Then I notice the CDATA method and change my code to: xtw.writeStartElement("contents"); xtw.writeCData("<b>here</b>"); xtw.writeEndElement(); and this time the result is <contents><![CDATA[<b>here</b>]]></contents> which is still not good. What I really want is <contents><b>here</b></contents> So is there an XML API/Library that allows me to write raw text without being in a CDATA section? So far I have looked at Stax and JDom and they do not seem to offer this. In the end I might resort to good old StringBuilder but this would not be elegant. Update I agree mostly with the answers so far. However instead of <b>here</b> I could have a 1MB HTML document that I want to embed in a bigger XML document. What you suggest means that I have to parse this HTML document in order to understand its structure. I would like to avoid this if possible.

  • Can I execute SQL statements directly in a JDO environment?

    I am using Datanucleus JDO on top of HSqlDb. I would like to execute the following SQL statement to tell HsqlDb to set the write delay to 0: "SET WRITE_DELAY 0" Is there a way I can do this from a JDO PersistenceManager or a PersistenceManagerFactory? On a sidenote: I have tried to modify write_delay by using the following connection URL: jdbc:hsqldb:file:data/hsqldb/dbbench;write_delay=false It didn't work. I debugged the HsqlDb sources and I could still see the write delay being set to 10 seconds.

Now Suppose my device current date 9-july-2012 11:31:00, Now suppose i set set a alarm at 9-july-2012 11:45:00, then it works fine and pop-up an alarm at that time. But if i set an alarm at 10-aug-2012 11:40:00, then as soon as exit the app the alarm pop-up, which is wrong because i set an alarm at month of august, So why this happen, is anything wrong in my code. if anyone knows help me to solve this out.     In .NET C#4.0 with the .NET Chart control I have this code to generate a pie chart: chart.Series[0].ChartType = SeriesChartType.Pie; foreach (Order order in orderCollection) { // If I set point.LegendText = order.UserName, .Group will erase it chart.Series[0].Points.AddXY(order.UserName, order.Total); } chart.DataManipulator.Sort(PointSortOrder.Ascending, "X", "Series1"); chart.DataManipulator.Group("SUM", 1, IntervalType.Months, "Series1"); This works well, it generates a pie chart with the top 10 users showing their total order sum. I would like to set the DataPoints' legendtext to the order.UserName property. The problem is, DataManipulator.Group overwrites the series DataPoints. So if I set the legendtext in the foreach loop, they will be erased after the Group call. And after the Group call, I don't see a way to retrieve the correct UserName for a DataPoint to set the legendtext. What is the best approach for this situation?

    I have a query that works: DECLARE @ProductID int SET @ProductID = '1234' SELECT DISTINCT TOP 12 a.ProductID FROM A a WHERE a.CategoryID IN (SELECT b.CategoryID FROM B b WHERE b.ProductID = @ProductID) AND a.ProductID != @ProductID It returns a list of 12 product numbers, all unique. I need to store these results in a variable, comma separated, because that's what 3rd party stored procedure needs. So I have this: DECLARE @ProductID int DECLARE @relatedprods varchar(8000) SET @ProductID = '1234' SET @relatedprods = '' SELECT TOP 12 @relatedprods = @relatedprods + CONVERT(VARCHAR(20), a.ProductID) + ', ' FROM A a WHERE a.CategoryID IN (SELECT b.CategoryID FROM B b WHERE B.ProductID = @ProductID) AND a.ProductID != @ProductID SELECT @relatedprods Now, none of these are distinct, but it is returning 12 rows. Now I add the 'distinct' back in, like in the first query: DECLARE @ProductID int DECLARE @relatedprods varchar(8000) SET @ProductID = '1234' SET @relatedprods = '' SELECT DISTINCT TOP 12 @relatedprods = @relatedprods + CONVERT(VARCHAR(20), a.ProductID) + ', ' FROM A a WHERE a.CategoryID IN (SELECT b.CategoryID FROM B b WHERE B.ProductID = @ProductID) AND a.ProductID != @ProductID SELECT @relatedprods Only one product is returned in the comma separated list!
