• Weird Mono compilation error

  Hi, I am using IKVM to get SVNKit on a Mono project I'm working with, I have a class that implements an interface from SVNKit, and I can't compile: On windows and on .NET, everything compiles fine, just getting this on Mono. /home/nubela/Workspace/subsync/subsync/Core/Subversion/PropGetHandler.cs(22,22): Error CS0535: Subsync.Core.Subversion.PropGetHandler' does not implement interface member org.tmatesoft.svn.core.wc.ISVNPropertyHandler.__()' (CS0535) (subsync) I googled _() method, and it seems to be the initializer method for the base class in the Java library compiled from IKVM. I have no clue how to proceed now, any idea guys? :)

• Store in DB or not to store ?

  There are few string lists in my web application that i don't know where to store in DB or just class. ie. I have 7 major browsers with which users enter the site. I want to save these stats thus i need to create browser column in UserLogin database. I don't want to waste space and resources so i can save full browser name in each login row. So i either need to save browserID field and hook it up with Browsers table which will store names following db normalization rules or to have sort of Dataholder abstract class which has a list of browsers from which i can retrieve browser name by it's ID... The question what should i do ? These few data lists i have contain no more than 200 items each so i think it makes sense to have them as abstract class but again i don't know whether MS-SQL will handle multiple joins so well. Think of idea when i have user with country,ip,language,browser and few more stats .. thanks

• Why can't I log in with "claimid.com" as an OpenID?

  Hi, I need to implement a relying party for Open ID in a load balanced environment. Following the suggestions found here I have tried passing null to the OpenIdRelyingParty constructor. The results are somehow not consistent. If I use www.myopenid.com as a provider it works. If I use www.claimid.com as a provider I get the following exception: ProtocolException - No OpenID endpoint found. This exception is thrown on the CreateRequest method call even in a non balanced environment (my local workstation). Any idea what can I do to make it work for both providers ?

  I've been trying to understand the intricacies of how POSIX threads and POSIX signals interact. In particular, I'm interested in: What's the best way to control which thread a signal is delivered to (assuming it isn't fatal in the first place)? What is the best way to tell another thread (that might actually be busy) that the signal has arrived? (I already know that it's a bad idea to be using pthread condition variables from a signal handler.) For reference about why I want this, I'm researching how to convert the TclX package to support threads, or to split it up and at least make some useful parts support threads. Signals are one of those parts that is of particular interest.

• When should assertions stay in production code?

  Hi all, There's a discussion going on over at comp.lang.c++.moderated about whether or not assertions, which in C++ only exist in debug builds by default, should be kept in production code or not. Obviously, each project is unique, so my question here is not so much whether assertions should be kept, but in which cases this is recommendable/not a good idea. By assertion, I mean: A run-time check that tests a condition which, when false, reveals a bug in the software. A mechanism by which the program is halted (maybe after really minimal clean-up work). I'm not necessarily talking about C or C++. My own opinion is that if you're the programmer, but don't own the data (which is the case with most commercial desktop applications), you should keep them on, because a failing asssertion shows a bug, and you should not go on with a bug, with the risk of corrupting the user's data. This forces you to test strongly before you ship, and makes bugs more visible, thus easier to spot and fix. What's your opinion/experience? Cheers, Carl See related question here

• Efficient Map Overlays in on Android Google Map...

  Hi Friends, I want to do the following and am kind of stuck on these for a few days.... 1) I have used helloItemizedOverlay to add about 150 markers and it gets very very slow.....any idea what to do ? I was thinking about threads....(handler) ... 2) I was trying to draw poly lines ( I have encoded polylines, but have managed to decoded those) that move when I move the map.....(the only solution that I found was for Geopoints to be transformed into screen co-ordinates...which wont move if I move the map !) 3) I was looking for some sort of a timer function that executes a given function, say, every 1 minute or so.... 4) I was also looking for ways to clear the Google map from all the markers/lines etc....   I've been wondering this for some time. As the title say, which is faster, the actual function or simply raising to the half power? UPDATE This is not a matter of premature optimization. This is simply a question of how the underlying code actually works. What is the theory of how Python code works? I sent Guido van Rossum an email cause I really wanted to know the differences in these methods. My email: There are at least 3 ways to do a square root in Python: math.sqrt, the '**' operator and pow(x,.5). I'm just curious as to the differences in the implementation of each of these. When it comes to efficiency which is better? His response: pow and ** are equivalent; math.sqrt doesn't work for complex numbers, and links to the C sqrt() function. As to which one is faster, I have no idea...

• stringtemplate .net dynamic object

  Hi I am using string template to render some content, but the content may be variable so not sure how to pass it in (using .net / c#) Basic idea is I have a List which need to end up as parameters, e.g. List<KeyValuePair<string, object>> ret = new List<KeyValuePair<string, object>>(); ret.Add(new KeyValuePair<string, object>("elem1", true)); ret.Add(new KeyValuePair(string, object>("elem2", false)); Now I want these to show up in string template as: $item.elem1$ $item.elem2$ I can get them to be $elem1$ or $elem2$ but i need them inside of a structure. So I in effect need to convince the string template setAttribute that I'm passing in an object with properties elem1 and elem2 when in fact I have a List of KeyValuePairs. Thanks

However, when GWT starts up, I get this error: 00:00:18.359 [ERROR] Rebind result 'com.mystuff.mypackage.FileUploadPanel.ValidatingFileUpload' has no default (zero argument) constructors. java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: com.mystuff.mypackage.FileUploadPanel$ValidatingFileUpload.<init>() Any idea what might be going wrong here?

• OnmouseMove not work with SetTimeOut and Alerts in Chome

  What's wrong with this code? It works in IE and FireFox, but Chrome does not work. The idea is that the function fnTimeOut will be triggered in 5 seconds after onmousemove. It´s ok. But when, in Chrome, I click on the button "ok" to function fnAlert is triggered instantly. • ExtJs: Tree: how download then select using AJAX calls ?

• ClearCase: Versioning at file level

  Hi, I have a perculier problem about how to maintain a clearcase project. This project is a xml schema repository where each schema has a version. This repository is common and is used by all the apps in the enterprise. From clearcase prespective the project has a single component. Now the apps can be using different versions of the schema(s). So we are trying to figureout a way to setup the project in such way that a project can have a baseline of what versions of these files are included in a build. The only way we know of how to do this is to create a component for each schema or group of schemas and create a stream for each app to include the components they use. But that would result in too many components. Has anyone dealth with something like this before? We are prepared to restructre the whole project if necessary, so we are open to any idea. • Are stack based arrays possible in C#?

  Let's say, hypothetically (read: I don't think I actually need this, but I am curious as the idea popped into my head), one wanted an array of memory set aside locally on the stack, not on the heap. For instance, something like this: private void someFunction() { int[20] stackArray; //C style; I know the size and it's set in stone } I'm guessing the answer is no. All I've been able to find is heap based arrays. If someone were to need this, would there be any workarounds? Is there any way to set aside a certain amount of sequential memory in a "value type" way? Or are structs with named parameters the only way (like the way the Matrix struct in XNA has 16 named parameters (M11-M44))?

• Customizing an item's view in SharePoint Designer

  I've created a list called Newsletters (columns: Title, Date and News - a multi lookup to a News list), and a DataFormWebPart displaying an item from this list. Now I'm modifing the XSLT transformation to change the displayed view. At the moment an item is simply displayed with its Title, Date and News attributes, where News attribute is displayed as a list of News items titles - this is the default. Instead of the titles, I would like to also display these news' Content. The problem is that I have no idea how to get to these elements. The News attribute is being referred in xslt simply as <xsl:value-of select="@News"/> and I can't get to the elements that lie behind it. Any suggestions on how I can do it?

  Good Morning All, I'm trying to use "Contains" to see if an object is within the collection. When I break I can see that the object is indeed part of the collection however "Contains" seems to be returning false indicating the item is not in the collection. • iPhone app: recover view after didReceiveMemoryWarning

  The app in question has a MainView->ModalView pair. The ModalView is shown via UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal. In case of didReceiveMemoryWarning, MainView is dumped (since it is not visible) and the app stays "alive" but when you flip back there is a (very) short period of time when the screen is blank (since the modal dialog is returning to a now-deallocated view). When the animation transition is over, MainView is regenerated and all is ok. I just would like to somehow regenerate MainView before returning from ModalView (in case of a memory warning). Is this a good idea? Am I doing something wrong as far as the warning is concerned? Thanks

• What should I use for the .SWF path in FlowPlayer's configuration if I'm developing from my desktop?

  I'm having an extremely difficulty time getting the flowplayer to show up and the worst part is I have no idea what is wrong because I'm not getting any error messages! I have an external javascript file: C:/desktop/mysite/js/jq/plugins.js calling $f() from: C:/desktop/mysite/thirdparty/flowplayer/flowplayer.js the swf files also live there... • Stripe suppression algorithm needed

  I have images with text. There are dark stripes in image that still exists in binary image too. That makes characters connected with that stripe - it can be vertical or horizontal (or at some angle) I need to remove them from image at first, and then to binarize. I've seen bandpass filter in ImageJ program that have some options like - suppress horizontal stripes, and it works good, but it also apply a bandpass filtering. So any idea please how to do it. I think it should be done in frequency domain.

  When we design a database table for a DVD rental company, we actually have a movie, which is an abstract idea, and a physical DVD, so for each rental, we have a many-to-many table with fields such as: TransactionID UserID DvdID RentedDate RentalDuration AmountPaid but what about with virtual goods? For example, if we let a user rent a movie online for 3 days, we don't actually have a DVD, so we may have a table: TransactionID UserID MovieID RentedDate RentalDuration AmountPaid should we create a record for each instance of "virtual good"? For example, what if this virtual good (the movie) can be authorized to be watched on 3 devices (with 3 device IDs), then should we then create a virtual good record in the VirtualGoods table, each with a VirtualGoodID and then another table that has VirtualGoodID DeviceID to match up the movie with the DeviceIDs? We can also just use the TransactionID as the VirtualGoodID. Are there circumstances where we may want to create a record to record this "virtual good" in a VirtualGoods table?

• Regression tests for T-SQL stored procedures

  Hi, I would like to regression test t-sql stored procedures. My idea is to specify for each SP multiple input parameter sets. The SP should be executed with these parameters, results should be written to disc. Next time the new results should be compared with results stored before. Does anybody know a good tool for something like that? Should not be that hard to implement, but in practice you will need functionality like "ignore that column" or something like that. • Can I pass data into a HashMap<String,Object> from JSP to a JavaBean?

  Hi Everyone, I am just starting out with JSP, Java, etc web development... I would love to use some sort of framework, but for this project I can't do that. In any case I want to potentially pass essentially limitless data (for flexibility) to my javabeans. My idea was if I can have key value pairs that would really easy. The values will always be strings or integers. HashMap seems ideal in this case. Is this possible? Any ideas? Can I do this with JSP Bean tags or should I write scriptlets? Thanks!!!
