• Windows Update not updating

  I've enabled automatic updates but windows cannot update itself automatically, nor updating via Internet Explorer (by visiting http://www.windowsupdate.com/) works. I get this error message in event log: Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule. Windows will continue to try to establish a connection. What could be wrong? A malware?

• Does uninstalling psa-firewall (plesk firewall module) disable firewall?

  I have a dv server with media temple and the plesk firewall module is causing a tonne of grief, it use to work, not anymore... unable to edit firewall rules through the module etc. Does uninstalling this module, what i assume is known as the psa-firewall service prevent the firewall to work? its running centos 5 and the firewall looks to be iptables.

• Sending text messages from Raspberry Pi via email fails

  I'm using mailx on my raspberry pi to try to send text messages updates for event monitoring. My phone number: 9876543210 My phone's email-to-text gateway address: [email protected] I can 1) Send emails from my raspberry pi to various email addresses. mail -r [email protected] -s "My Subject" [email protected] < body.txt and off it goes and is successfully delivered. 2) Send emails from various email address (not on RPi) using mailx to the above phone-email address and have them delivered as text messages. However, when sending emails to [email protected] from the Raspberry Pi using mailx the emails seem to spiral into the void and are never heard of again (no errors, no undeliverable messages, nothing). Does anyone know what could be causing this to go awry? Something about the basic deployment of the mail server on the pi? EDIT Based on @kobaltz's suggestion, I used sendmail instead. This led to a hang, then an error that stated that I lacked a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). I then used this website's instructions to add a domain name to the RPi. To paraphrase: I have set the FQDN in /etc/hostname: my-host-name.my-domain.com and /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 192.168.0.5 my-host-name.my-domain.com my-host-name Then add to /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: MASQUERADE_AS(`my-domain.com') MASQUERADE_DOMAIN(`my-host-name.my-domain.com') FEATURE(`masquerade_entire_domain') FEATURE(`masquerade_envelope') I put this in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf, BEFORE the MAILER() lines, ran sendmailconfig, answered Yes to the questions about using the existing files, and restarted sendmail. • freebsd-update reports an upgraded jail as not upgraded

  I've set up a "Service Jail" in FreeBSD 8.0 according to the FreeBSD Handbook (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails-application.html). After upgrading the host to the latest patch level and then performed a jail-upgrade, freebsd-fetch still reports that there are files in need of an update in the jail. Is this expected? Then how do I know if a jail is up to date? This is what I've done in more detail: After the initial setup of the jail freebsd-update fetch reported that there were no updates available neither in the host system nor in the jail. This was expected. A while later freebsd-update fetch reported that the following files where in need of an update both in the host and in the jail. /usr/lib/libssl.a /usr/lib/libssl_p.a /usr/lib/libzpool.a /usr/lib32/libssl.a /usr/lib32/libssl_p.a /usr/lib32/libzpool.a I updated the host and followed the upgrade guide for the jail (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/jails-application.html#JAILS-SERVICE-JAILS-UPGRADING). freebsd-update fetch now reports that there are no updates available in the host but the following is the output from freebsd-update fetch in the jail: [root@bb /]# freebsd-update fetch Looking up update.FreeBSD.org mirrors... 3 mirrors found. • Can't access server running CentOS 6.3 in vmware

  I just installed CentOS on a vmware machine that uses a bridged connection, installed apache, php and mysql, but when I run service httpd start I get a warning(?): Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using localhost.localdomain for ServerName I can connect to the server using putty, so I really have no idea why it won't load in the browser. EDIT: Httpd starts successfully, return [ OK ]. Running netstat -tuplen | grep :80 yields: tcp 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN 0 40392 15894/httpd I am able to connect with putty to 192.168.0.113, but browser says can't connect to 192.168.0.113

• Adding FTP publishing to IIS Website: cannot connect

  I used the wizard to add ftp publishing with anonymous access and mydomain.com as binding (I followed this tut: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/IIS-FTP-Publishing-Service-Part2.html ) When I try to connect with filezilla with anonymous user I get "EAI_NODATA - No address associated with nodename". The tutorial on IIS never mentions anything like this so how to fix this ? Should I use ftp.mydomain.com instead ? If yes should I do something (add A record in dns ?)

• PHP ignores upload_tmp_dir?

  LS, I am using IIS7 with PHP (FastCGI). I set up the upload_tmp_dir to "X:\Temp" instead of leaving it empty, but it's still using "C:\Windows\Temp" for some reason. I did give the following users full rights : NETWORK SERVICE, (application pool user), IIS_IUSRS. I also restarted IIS after I made the change. I tried to create a directory inside the correct temp path using PHP, and that did work, so it's not a security issue. Kind regards, Matthias Vance

• Networking OSX 10.6 and Vista via ethernet?

  How can I make Vista home premium access OS X hard drive? and the other way around? I'd like to transfer files via direct ethernet. Plugging in an ethernet cable makes both computers recognize a network, but not the other device. Each firewall is turned off, but no luck. Edit: I don't see Windows Sharing in the Service Column.

I've created a user in the user group (let's call it apache), and set the user to run as in the services pane, but then I am unable to start the service (probably not enough permission to bind to port 80). What is the minimum privileges needed to run apache on windows 2008, or what should I do to allow the user apache to bind apache 2.2 to port 80? Thanks!

  On one of my old computers I am having the problem of upgrading to windows 8.1 because my computer does not support PAE, NX, and SSE2. How was I able to install windows 8 in the first place? I heard the original requirements for windows 8.0 were PAE, NX, and SSE2. Anyone know a bypass for this on a machine already running windows 8? IMO 8.1 should have been released in the form of a service pack not an entirely new windows.

• DNS down in Anonymous attack

  As I'm writing this our company website and the web-service we developed are down in the big GoDaddy outage resulting from an Anonymous attack (or so says Twitter). We used GoDaddy as our registrar and we use it for DNS for some domains. Tomorrow is a new day - what can we do to mitigate such outages? Simply moving to, say, Route 53 for DNS might not be enough. Is there any way to remove this single point of failure?

When I try to ping the server from client computer A I get the following: PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping succeeds! From client computer B, BOTH the pings fail. PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping fails with a message "Ping request could not find host 74.208.192.xxx:80" Both clients A and B are on the same subnet. The server is outside (a virtual server hosted by an ISP) I have an ASP.NET application in a virtual directory on the server. In IE or firefox, if I enter http://74.208.192.xxx/subdir/subdir/../Default.aspx, it works from both the clients! The server has default firewall settings but web server enabled (Port 80 is open). From client A (note the different 'reply to' address when the ping succeeds. Do I need to install Windows 7 and then upgrade or is there a easier way to install Windows 8 Pro Upgrade? When I try to activate I am getting an error Code: 0xC004F061. Description: The software licensing service determined that the specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations.

• ASP.NET web application can't find an assembly

  I deployed an ASP.NET web application last night and I when I woke up this morning it was very slow and would occasionally just throw a 'Service Unavailable' error. I checked the Event Viewer and it was filled up with these errors: I'm puzzled as it was working perfectly when I deployed it (MonoTorrent is required to retrieve the number of seeders/leechers for a certain torrent off the tracker - this was working fine), but it's no longer working and whenever code that uses MonoTorrent gets involved, the worker process just crashes. MonoTorrent.dll is in the /bin/ directory.

  I am using a cron job to reload my httpd service after a subdomain is created. I have the problem that when the reload happens the page that registers the user throws a server error. I was wondering if I could go around this by having another cron task. So my logic would be: httpd reload after a .conf file is created then take the user back to the DocumentRoot of the main page. So in usage it would be: a user registers, then is automatically taken back to domain.com

  I've got supervisord 3.0a8 installed from the system package on ubuntu 10.04 (64bit). The supervisor service appears to be running, but it's not launching the configured programs. Interestingly enough, this exact configuration is running on another system, and is working as expected.
