  • Configure TV Capture card to not use external audio jack for TV audio output

    I had this working with MythTV on Ubuntu 9.1. Then a power surge killed the motherboard. After replacing the motherboard, ram and cpu, the card does not produce any audio except through the output jack on the back of the card. I do not want to use a cable to go from the back of the card to the audio in on the built in sound card of the new mother board. FYI, the old motherboard did not have an on-board sound card. There was a separate audio card installed. There's some configuration that has to be done to have it work the same way again. I just have no idea where to start.     Using rsync(ubuntu) and a DeltaCopy server on W2K3 to back up some of the data on the file server before I migrate from W2K3 to Ubuntu server. After it completed I ran a dry run just in case something had been missed or changed ... I got the following: sudo rsync -az -n 198.3.9.25::Music /mnt/raid/music [sudo] password for daniel: file has vanished: "?????\#267????" (in Music) file has vanished: "????????" (in Music) ... rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1526) [generator=3.0.7] I just want to make sure I'm reading it right, that somehow there are files on the receiving end that aren't on the sending?

  • nginx won't respond to monit

    Although EngineX is running, monit can't seem to figure it out. Here's my monit log: [PDT Apr 13 02:19:19] error : HTTP error: Server returned status 400 [PDT Apr 13 02:19:19] error : 'nginx' failed protocol test [HTTP] at INET[localhost:80] via TCP [PDT Apr 13 02:19:19] info : 'nginx' trying to restart [PDT Apr 13 02:19:19] info : 'nginx' stop: /etc/init.d/nginx [PDT Apr 13 02:19:20] info : 'nginx' start: /etc/init.d/nginx The monitrc file contains the following configuration: if failed port 80 protocol http and request '/ping.txt' # check for response with timeout 20 seconds then restart I can access the file through lynx http://localhost:80/ping.txt without any problems. Why would monit have trouble requesting the file when nginx is running just fine?

    I am trying to virtualize an Ubuntu machine using VMWare vCenter Converter, but ran into permissions issues. I followed the instructions of part 1 and 2 on this page but when I got to "For Ubuntu operating systems further configuration is needed" I started running into trouble. I'm decent at Linux, but I'm not an experienced sysadmin. How do I Target the specific user you will be using and assign it user id 0/group 0? How do I Ensure that you also still enable Allow root to ssh even though you are not using the root account? Thanks for your help.

  • Problem serving video to iPad from Mongrel 1.1.5 , RoR 2.0.2 on Mac OS 10.6.3 Server

    I am working off the Final Cut Server Integration sample provided by Apple that is a Rails app using 2.0.2 and runs on Mongrel 1.1.5. I can have a basic non-Ruby directory on my boot volume (Mac OS 10.6.3 Server) and can serve up video files just fine to iPad. However, when I drag the same video file into the 'public' area of the app running on -p 3000 it will not play on iPad, but will in Safari 4.0.5 desktop version. Images work fine so I know it's not a permissions issue. I'm getting the crossed-out play icon on iPad so it is not an issue of waiting on a large file to download before playing. I suspect it is a Mongrel/Snow Leopard issue but why would Safari on desktop work fine and not Safari iPad?   • Firefox 3.6.3 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - symbolic link to command line binary doesn't work?

    I have Firefox 10.6.3 installed on Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the DMG. I can run firefox from the terminal using /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin. However, if I create a symbolic link: sudo ln -s /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin /bin/firefox then it refuses to run, or at least display. When I issue "firefox" from the terminal, I can see the process in top, but never get the GUI to appear. :/ = ls -lr /bin/firefox lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 52 May 5 15:19 /bin/firefox - /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin Any ideas?     i've got a web service up and running with apache on ubuntu server in a vps from a hosting company (long sentence:)). i wonder when someone would like to set up a own mail server (postfix + dovecot)? cause i just want to be able to: send emails (account activation etc) to my users with php - the emails have to appear to come from the website's domain receive emails from my users (customer support etc) using Apple Mail/Microsoft Outlook. could this be accomplished with an email hosting company? are there situations i would benefit from setting up an own mail server on ubuntu?

However, Landscape is not free. The RedHat counterpart Satellite has a free version called Spacewalk, but it doesn't work on Ubuntu. (There is an attempt to port Spacewalk to Debian, but it doesn't look like it's stable yet.) Are there any open source alternative to Landscape? Better yet, are there any Spacewalk-like software that works for both RedHat-based and Debian-based systems?

  • "Failed to delete the item from the trash" on network drive files

    How does the Ubuntu trash work? It appears that one trash bin is used by many drives. I've noticed a folder called ".Trash-1000" on my network drive as well as "/home/user/.local/share/Trash". Currently I have a problem where a number of files I deleted from a network drive (which I no longer have full access to) appear in my trash but but cannot be deleted, I see the error "Failed to delete the item from the trash". If I look at the files in this network drive trash I notice that it contains all of these undeletable files. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 x64.

    Dear Everyone I am currently using openvpn for normal browsing. However, I have the following services running: a bit torrent client, a web server, IRC and a git server which I would really want it to not be using my vpn connection (and use my original connection instead). Is there a way to do this? I looked up policy routing and I can't really find any tutorial on how to do this on linux (I am on ubuntu). I don't want the solution to be incredibly complicated - I am pretty new to networking in ubuntu and I only want a very simple solution to this problem. Can someone help me out?

    proftpd: pam_ecryptfs: Error getting passwd info for user [USERNAME] I am getting this error in the syslog nearly every time any user connects via FTP, the user is able to connect and the session seems to continue without a hitch. ProFTPD.log shows no error, this warning only show in the syslog. My VPS is running Ubuntu 11.10 and Proftpd 1.3.4rc2 from the Ubuntu Repo, I have made only a few changes to the config (no weird auth methods). This has been going on for quite a while but I can't quite find the cause. Anyone got any ideas? EDIT: been looking around but all I can find with this error is the source code for the program itself; it appears to be and error in ecryptfs-utils that only proftpd is triggering.

I'm using Ubuntu v13.10 32-bit Server and Apache2 v2.4.6 and I'm trying to set up and configure modsecurity and modevasive on an internet-exposed production/test server. I am trying to follow this tutorial: http://www.thefanclub.co.za/how-to/how-install-apache2-modsecurity-and-modevasive-ubuntu-1204-lts-server. But at step 3: Now add these rules to Apache2. Open a terminal window and enter: sudo vi /etc/apache2/mods-available/mod-security.conf This file does not exist. Any suggestions?

    Using a combination of http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2007/01/02/mount-remote-directories-securely-with-ssh-ubuntu-6061-610/ and http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/fstab.html I figured I could mount the root of another computer to somewhere on my new laptop to make it easier to transfer files and stuff. Now, I can connect through SSH and browser the files through an ad-hoc mount - but I would like to be able to do this automatically, and so had a look at fstab. my new entry in fstab is: remote_comp:/ /var/remote_comp fuse defaults 0 0 but testing with mount -a results in the following error: /bin/sh: remote_comp:/: not found I thought the problem was because I was trying to mount the root of the other computer, but even trying sub-directories result in the same error message.
