  • What does P mean in Sort(Expression<Func<T, P>> expr, ListSortDirection direction)?

    I am attempting to use the answer in post: How do you sort an EntitySet<T> to expose an interface so that I can sort an EntitySet with a Binding list. I have created the class below and I get the following compiler error: "The type or namespace 'P' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or assembly reference?). Can someone tell me what the P means and which namespace I need to include to get the method below to compile? I am very new to delegates and lamba expressions. Also, can someone confirm that if I create a BindingList from my EntitySet that any modifications I make to the BindingList will be made to the EntitySet? Basically, I have an EntitySet that I need to sort and make changes to.   • Why do values in the row I insert not match the values in the insert query?

    I just can't understand why is my database (mysql) behaving like this! My console shows that the record is created properly (please, notice the "remote_id" value): Tweet Create (0.3ms) INSERT INTO `tweets` (`remote_id`, `text`, `user_id`, `twitter_account_id`) VALUES (12325438258, 'jamaica', 1, 1) But when I check the record, it shows that the remote_id is 2147483647 intead of the provided value (12325438258 in the example above)... This table has many entries, but this field is always written with 2147483647... It was supposed to fill this space with an unique id (which I guarantee you is being generated properly).

  • Build a Sitemap but webpages don't use links

    Folks I am trying to build a sitemap (we need one badly) for a huge multi-page web app. Technically its not much more than a collection of php/MySQL web forms that use javascript instead of traditional linkage to access the many pages. >td width="100" align="center" ONMOUSEOVER="this.className='bgover'" ONMOUSEOUT="this.className='bgout'" onclick="location.href='../main.php'">Main Page</td> Above is code sample of how the links are currently managed. I know I can search through the various pages, nearly a 1000, and find these "location.href" variables and that will help me a sitemap for each section. But maybe there is an easier way? WE use Trac and SVN so perhaps I am going about this the wrong way? Any advice would be appreciated.

    I am looking for examples of code/data/infrastructure design for a dashboard-style webapp. I am designing an interface for staff and faculty at a university to access departmental resources and be alerted of cyclical processes, events, deadlines, etc. Technologies I am working with: apache tomcat 6 and a mySQL database, JSP (including JSTL), bootstrap 3, and javascript/jquery. I have basic experience most of these technologies building smaller web apps but was hoping someone could direct me towards a book or other resource that discusses how to design the db architecture (and maybe how to template) for a dashboard, esp. for something like a notification systems. Any suggestions?

  • PDO Prepare statement not processing parameters

    I've exhausted all efforts at what appears to be a trivial problem, but gotten nowhere. There is a simple Prepare statement: $qry = $core->db->prepare("SELECT * FROM users WHERE email = '?'"); $qry->execute(array('[email protected]')); However, no rows are returned. Running the query with the parameters hardcoded into the query results in a successful selection of one row. I've tryed many different methods of doing the prepare, but even it this most simple form it isn't working. The PDO object is stored in a singleton called Core. PDO is using the mysql driver.

  • Are indexes good or bad for a large database?

    Hello All, I read on MySQL Performance Blog that when tables are large, it is better to scan full tables, instead of using indexes. I have a table with tens of millions of rows. When conducting queries, if I use no indexes, then queries are 24 times slower than with indexes. I know lot of things may cause this (e.g., are rows stored sequentially), but can you please give me some hints what might be happening? Or how I should start examining this issue? I want to understand when use of indexes is preferred and when it's not Thanks

    I'm running a cron job (every 15 minutes) which takes about a minute to execute. It makes lots of API calls and stores data to the database. Right now I create a mysql connection at the beginning and use the same connection through out the code. Most of the time is spent making the API calls. Will it be more efficient to create a new database connection only when it's time to store the data (below)?     When I have a string like "0xd8 0xff 0xe0" I do Text.Split(' ').Select(part => byte.Parse(part, System.Globalization.NumberStyles.HexNumber)).ToArray(); But if I got string like "0xd8ffe0" I don't know what to do ? also I'm able for recommendations how to write byte array as one string.

  • Is this SQL select code following good practice?

    I am using sqlite and will port to mysql (5) later. I wanted to know if I am doing something I shouldnt be doing. I tried purposely to design so I'll compare to 0 instead of 1 (I changed hasApproved to NotApproved to do this, not a big deal and I haven't written any code). I was told I never need to write a subquery but I do here. My Votes table is just id, ip, postid (I don't think I can write that subquery as a join instead?) and that's pretty much all that is on my mind. Naming conventions I don't really care about since the tables are created via reflection and is all over the place. select id, name, body, upvotes, downvotes, (select 1 from UpVotes where IPAddr=? AND post=Post.id) as myup, (select 1 from DownVotes where IPAddr=@0 AND post=Post.id) as mydown from Post where flag = '0' limit ?, ?"

  • Suggest Sphinx index scheme

    Hi. In a MySQL database I have documents of different type: some have text content, meta keys, descriptions, others have code, SKU number, size and brand name and so on. The problem is, I have to search something in all of these documents and then display a single page, where the results will be grouped by the document type, such as help page, blog post, item... It's not clear for me how to implement the Sphinx index: I want to have a single index to speed up queries, but since different docs have different structure - how can I group them? I was thinking about just concatenating them, but it just doesn't feel right.

    i have a language table which is as a foreign key in the link table , The link can be in 3 languages meaning there will be 3 rows in the link table every time i enter the record . i am using jQuery tabs to enter the records in 3 languages . OK so that thing is that there will be three text boxes for every field in the table.link name field will have 3 text boxes, description will have 3 text boxes and so on. i am using LINK to SQL with VS2010. i will be creating link class with MetadataType so how will i handle for eg link name attribute 3 times

    Hi, I have made a leaderboard table on my site, which returns the users in the MySQL database with the highest scores (score is a separate field). The fields in the leaderboard table are 'rank' 'username' and 'score'. I would like to link each username in the table to it's own profile page. The profile pages are in the format /profile.php?user=$username. How would I go about adding an <a href> within the table (which is echoed in php): echo '<tr><td>' .$a. '</td><td><a href="profile.php?user=' .$row['username']. '">' .$row['username']. '</a></td><td>'.$row['count'].'</td></tr>'; I've tried the above, but it doesn't seem to work. It shows the usernames, but they don't have any hyperlinks. Thanks

    the situation: a user on the page in question selects a category from a dropdown which then dynamically populates all the users of that category in a second dropdown beside it. all the data is being retrieved using LinqtoSQL and i was wondering if this can be done a) using html.dropdownlist in a strongly typed view? b) using jquery to trigger the ajax request on selected index change instead of a 'populate' button trigger? sorry i dont have code as what i was trying really wasnt working at all.     I have a requirement to filter a list of Clients based on if they haven't had any jobs booked in the last x months. In my code I have two lists, one is my Clients and the other is a filtered List of Jobs between today and x months ago and the idea is to filter Clients based on their id not appearing in the jobs list. I tried the following: filteredClients.Where(n => jobsToSearch.Count(j => j.Client == n.ClientID) == 0).ToList(); But I seem to get ALL clients regardless. I can easily do a foreach but this severly slows down the process. How can I filter the client list based on the job list effectively?

    I am developing a php/mysql driven facebook game. I am stuck on an element the table design. When a user completes a task I want to trigger any number of events. I was thinking of something like so: tbl_events *event_id - serogate primary ID *task_id - foreign ID of the task just completed *event_type - what type of event e.g is it a facebook stream publish or a message to the user or does it unlock a new element of the game? *event_param - this is where it gets tricky... the event parameter is a problem for two reasons, 1) it will contain different foreign ids... dependent on the event_type and thus it will not be possible to join to x table. Meaning I would have to call two queries. 2) Most events require a single id or text, however some events require multiple parameters - like the facebook stream publish.

    Hello. In looking through samples I have seen a number of examples where it is possible to present data within a wpf applicaiton by binding to collections. However I was wondering is it possible to write to a collection from an applicaiton. Say for example i have 2 or more fields such as names and I wanted to have hte ability to add up to three names in my application ( all stored in memory). Will collections serve this purpose. In the past with asp.net I have done this by creating data tables and storing values on the fly or during the session. I am trying to learn WPF and I was wondering if collections work in the same fashion? If so could you please post an example or point me to references that show examples of this?   • Entity Framework 5 upgrade from 4

    I'm having an issue with the Where clause in a search, in my original version EF4 I could add a Where clause with 2 parameters, the where clause (string predicate) and a ObjectParameter list such as var query = context.entities.Where(WhereClause.ToString(), Params.ToArray()); since my upgrade to EF5 I don't seem to have that option am I missing something? This was originally used to build dynamic where clause such as "it.entity_id = @entity_id" then holding the variable value in the ObjectParameter. I'm hoping I don't have to rewrite all the searches that have been built out this way, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

    Given a collection IEnumerable<Type> supportedTypes What's the best way to check whether a given object is one of those types (or a derived type)? My first instinct was to do something like: // object target is a parameter passed to the method in which I'm doing this. if (supportedTypes.Count( supportedType => target is supportedType ) > 0) { // Yay my object is of a supported type!!! } ..but that doesn't seem to be working. Can I not use the "is" keyword in a lambda expression like this?
