• PHP memory exhausted when running through thousands of records

  I'm running the following code over a set of 5,000 results. It's failing due to the memory being exhausted. foreach ($data as $key => $report) { $data[$key]['data'] = unserialize($report['serialized_values']); } I know I can up the memory limit, but I'd like to run this without a problem instead. I'm not going to be able to keep upping the memory forever.   This is a strange question, I've never tried to do this before. I have a repetitive process requiring that I copy and paste data from text boxes in one program into another program for further processing. I'd like to automate this process using VB .NET. The application from which the data is gathered isn't mine, so I don't have ActiveX-like access to its controls. How would you write an application to gain access to a form from another application, to be able to find the controls on the form, and gather the values from them? Just experimenting, I've used the following code. This resulted in only the name of the form to which this code belongs. It didn't find the names of any other forms I have open, and I have a lot open to choose from. This is frustrating because it's only step one of what I'll need to do to make my life easier... • "Permission denied" with Internet Explorer and jQuery

  I try to do an AJAX call with jQuery and $.post in Internet Explorer, but all I get is an error saying "Permission denied". The problem is kinda weird since it occurs only when I access a page after I was on any other page. For instance I type the URL in the adress line and let IE load the page. Then I click on a button so the script should start loading JSON data. (The script providing the data lies on the same server and I access it with a relative URL, so using a different domain is not the problem here. Even tried to use a absolute URL with the same host part.) But when I refresh the page then and try it again it works! Same thing when I come to that page from another page. At first nothing works, but when I click "refresh" everything is fine. IE gives me the error message "Permission denied" while in every other browser I don't notice this behaviour. Since I have tried many things and still cannot imagine where the problem lies I'd like to ask you what you think the problem might be?

I wonder why Sun's expert programmers followed that long way when the task can be accomplished with a code of fewer lines. • Letting user carry on after three attempts

  In my spelling game there is a grid that is populated with words. The words are hidden and the aim of the game is to spell the word that is highlighted with the aid of a sound and a picture. To highlight a word you press the "next" button. At the moment if you spell the word correctly it says "well done" and you can advance to the next word, but if you spell it incorrectly you have to keep attempting the word until it is complete. As the game is designed for children I do not think this is the best approach, so I would like to make it so you can advance after 3 incorrect attempts. I have played around with the script so much trying to put counters on incorrect attempts and then making the button active but cannot seem to get it to work. Can someone please help me? • Migrating Ajax web application to web socket

  Hi, I think i'm just missing a little detail that is preventing me from seeing the whole picture. I have a web application which use ajax request every x time to update client with new information or tasks. I also have a long running process on the server which is a java computation engine. I would like this engine to send update to the client. I am wondering how to migrate my web app to using websocket. Probably phpwebsocket or similar. Can my server 'decide' to send information to a specific client? It seems possible looking at the php-websocket. Can my java backend long process use the websocket server to send notification to a specific client. How? well I can say that my java app could use a class that could send over websocket instead of http. But how the websocket server knows to which client to send the 'info'. I am puzzle by all this. Any document that explain this in more details? It seems that the websocket could create an instance of my web application. Thanks

• Choosing right control for list of items

  I am new to WPF and MVVM. In my ViewModel I have collection of items, for example: class Item { string Title {get; set;} string Description {get; set;} } I would like to create a view, so at the beginning I would have: Title1 Title2 Title3 If user click on one of title it will expand to show description, eg: Title1 Description1 Title2 Title3 If user click on other title, there will be two expanded items: Title1 Description1 Title2 Description2 Title3 This is probably very similar to Expander control and maybe I could use it, but I am doing it other way, to learn something new. What control should I use for this purpose? Should that be ItemsControl or maybe ListBox? I imagine, that if I use ItemsControl, I should probably extend my Item class to have something like bool IsExpanded and bind UI item visibility to that value. But maybe I could use ListBox and somehow bind UI item visibility to... Yeah, to what? :) How could I do such a simple thing?

  Hi there, We're building an app which in part of its functionality tries to capture the number of likes associated to a particular video owned by a user. Users of the app are asked for extended off-line access and we capture the key for each user: The format is like this: 2.hg2QQuYeftuHx1R84J1oGg__.XXXX.1272394800-nnnnnn Each user has their offline / infinite key stored in a table in a DB. The object_id which we're interested in is also stored in the DB. At a later stage (offline) we try to run a batch job which reads the number of likes for each user's video. (See attached code) For some reason however, after the first iteration of the loop - which yields the likes correctly, we get a failure with the oh so familiar message: "Session key is invalid or no longer valid" Any insight would be most appreciated. It is laid out like (ul,li etc.) this so I can have each loaded form aligned under the relevant li. • Search Box/Transition won't work in Firefox

  I disabled the search box on IE, because IE kept centering it over the navigation. It works in Chrome, I'm not sure about opera (and I'm not sure if I care) but it won't work in Firefox. The ease-out timing works in Firefox, but nothing else really works. I've tried other things to work around the issue, but every time I try something different, the search box's positioning gets thrown off. If you look at it in Firefox, it looks fine-- until you click on it to search. http://kissoff.weebly.com/ You can see what the search box is supposed to do if you look at it and click on it in Chrome. I'm sure the positioning is off, I'm not sure (I'm new to css). • Chrome Extension - Console Log not firing

  I'm starting to learn to make my own Chrome Extensions, and starting small. At the moment, I'm switching from using the alert() function to console.log() for a cleaner development environment. For some reason, console.log() is not displaying in my chrome console logs. However, the alert() function is working just fine.   I am having some issues with applying a gradient to a RadButton.   I was just thinking, which is always dangerous. We use Valums Image uploader. Aside from that, I am looking for an inline image editor, but with a difference. User uploads an image ( lets say 800 x 600 ) Our system wants to see the image ( 170 x 32 ) now I know we can use php to resize images. But I was thinking, does anyone know of a system, where we can display the image, and user can scale, and crop image ( with say a predefined overlay ) By that they scale down to nearest acceptable size, and then click crop tool, which shows a div overlay with say 70% transparency that they can drag over the image, and then click crop. So image is cropped to exact size we need, then can save . I am sure I have seen some jquery stuff done like this, just cannot for life of me find it. Essentialy, we would like to offer a simple client side image processor, thats lightweight, and then the ability to save what they did . Sorry no code to show, as its more of a request. Regards

• Flex 4: Scale to a point (zoom into an image where the mouse was clicked)

  I've been trying to get this working and I can't seem to figure it out. There is an Image control that when I click on it I need to zoom in (using the center/transform point where the mouse is clicked). I have the zoom transition working great, but when I set transformX & tranformY (with autoCenterTransform false) it doesn't zoom into that point.   I am toggling 'tr.subCategory1'and its siblings .RegText. at the same time I am trying to store its ids in the array like this list_Visible_Ids[$(this).attr('id')] = $(this).css('display') != 'none' ? 1 : null; (When I collapsed I need store 'null' in array at its id place, If I expand I need store I need store 1 at its id place). But everytime alert($(this).css('display')) showing block. How can I handle this?. • why does django-registration use an "activation window" for activating accounts?

  i'm using django-registration, which is a django lib that helps with users registering on a django-built website. All well and dandy, except that it insists i have an "activation email" associated with all new users. It defaults to a 7 day window, after which, if someone signed up (and we then sent an email to confirm their email address) but didn't click on the link in the sent email within the 7 days, then they cannot sign up. Instead, they need to do the whole process all over again. I'm sure this is a concept that exists generally in web design, because why would django-registration make its own arbitrary signup process up? Anyway, the question is why? What do i gain by having the peace of mind knowing that all the users of my site are the kind of go-getters that click on registration emails with 7 days of receiving them? Why should i sleep easier knowing that my database isn't filled with users who, for whatever reason, clicked through to sign up but didn't actually want to sign up? cheers!

• What do I need to do besides code?

  I'm a single-person operation for my small employer. I'm working on a couple of web applications that have grown to medium-size. We have backups going and everything is in version control with Subversion. I have comments in my code, but documentation outside of code is "spotty at best", and frequently things change. What do I need to do to bring it to the next level, beyond a pile of ( version-controlled, well-commented ) code? What would you say is required to have a robust set of documentation outside of the codebase itself, where the project is at, and where it's going? Ideally I would like some integrated system that would go from brainstorm, to requirements, to tracking bugs and features in svn check-in messages, to documentation. Would trac or redmine do something like this? I would like to show to my boss, "This is the prioritized list of features, this is where we are now, this is how long I spend on this feature, how long I spent on this bug" and I'd like to spend the minimum amount of time managing the projects :) What about ERD and UML diagrams? Is a project incomplete without them?

• choose javascript variable based on element id from jquery

  I feel like this is a simple question, but I am still relatively new to javascript and jquery. I am developing a site for a touch interface that uses unordered lists and jquery .click functions to take input data. I have a section to input a m:ss time, with 3 divs, each containing a list of digits for time. I need to get the input for each column and set it as a variable. I originally designed the inputs to change form inputs, because I didn't understand javascript very much. It was easy to change the 3 hidden inputs by using div id's, but I can't figure out how to do it now with javascript variables. Here is my original jquery code... $("div#time>div>ul>li").click(function() { var id = $(this).parents(".time").attr("name"); var number = $(this).html(); $("input#"+id).val(number); }); The last line sets one of 3 hidden inputs equal to whatever was clicked. I need to make it so separate variables take the inputs, then I can manipulate those variables however I want.
