This question probably highlights a lack of understanding of networking principals on my part, rather than a programming issue. I'm doing a lookup on a hostname using Dns.GetHostEntry This returns an IPHostEntry to me, which has an AddressList property which is an array of IPAddress. I always thought there is a 1 to 1 mapping between hostname and IP, but I'm finding that in some cases I get back several IPAddress(es) for the same host. This is a surprise to me. Which part of domain name resolution do I not understand?

rails i18n - translating text with links inside.

Hi there! I'd like to i18n a text that looks like this: Already signed up? Log in! Note that there is a link on the text. On this example it points to google - in reality it will point to my app's log_in_path. I've found two ways of doing this, but none of them looks "right". The first way I know involves having this my en.yml: log_in_message: "Already signed up? <a href='{{url}}'>Log in!</a>" And in my view: <p> <%= t('log_in_message', :url => login_path) %> </p> This works, but having the <a href=...</a> part on the en.yml doesn't look very clean to me. The other option I know is using localized views - login.en.html.erb, and login.es.html.erb. This also doesn't feel right since the only different line would be the aforementioned one; the rest of the view (~30 lines) would be repeated for all views. It would not be very DRY. I guess I could use "localized partials" but that seems too cumberstone; I think I prefer the first option to having so many tiny view files. So my question is: is there a "proper" way to implement this?

Programmatically call webmethods in C#

I'm trying to write a function that can call a webmethod from a webserive given the method's name and URL of the webservice. I've found some code on a blog that does this just fine except for one detail. It requires that the request XML be provided as well. The goal here is to get the request XML template from the webservice itself. I'm sure this is possible somehow because I can see both the request and response XML templates if I access a webservice's URL in my browser. I'm trying to use the Umbraco GetMedia function to write an image URL to the screen, I receive an error parsing the XSLT file. <xsl:for-each select="$currentPage/descendant::node [string(data [@alias='tickerItemActive']) = '1']"> <xsl:value-of select="data [@alias='tickerText']"/><br /> <xsl:value-of select="umbraco.library:GetMedia(data [@alias='tickerImage'], 0)/data [@alias = 'umbracoFile']"/> </xsl:for-each> The tickerImage field contains the MediaID for which I'd like to display the URL. I can return the field outside the GetMedia function and it works fine. I can also replace the data [@alias='tickerImage] with '1117' (or any valid media ID) the XSLT passes verification and the script runs. This is JavaScript regex. regex = /(http:\/\/[^\s]*)/g; text = "I have http://hibernate.sourceforge.net/hibernate-mapping-3.0.dtd and I like http://google.com a lot"; matches = text.match(regex); console.log(matches); I get both the urls in the result. However I want to eliminate all the urls ending with .dtd . How do I do that? Note that I am saying ending with .dtd should be removed. It means a url like http://a.dtd.google.com should pass .

I am trying to use Perl's WWW::Mechanize to login to my bank and pull transaction information. After logging in through a browser to my bank (Wells Fargo), it briefly displays a temporary web page saying something along the lines of "please wait while we verify your identity". After a few seconds it proceeds to the bank's webpage where I can get my bank data. The only difference is that the URL contains several more "GET" parameters appended to the URL of the temporary page, which only had a sessionID parameter. I was able to successfully get WWW::Mechanize to login from the login page, but it gets stuck on the temporary page. There is a <meta http-equiv="Refresh"... tag in the header, so I tried $mech->follow_meta_redirect but it didn't get me past that temporary page either. Any help to get past this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. GoDaddy allows you to setup a 404 in their control panel, but I can't override this, or setup any additional error redirects, specifically a 500-server error. Regex: markdown-style link matching

I want to parse markdown style links, but I'm having some trouble matching the reference style ones. Like this one: [id]: http://example.com/ "Optional Title Here" My regex gets the id and the url, but not the title. Heres what I have: /\[([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)\]: (\S+)\s?("".*?"")?/ I go through and add the references to a hashtable. the id as the key and the value is an instance of a class I made called LinkReference that just contains the url and the title. Cant find the android keytool

Hi all I am trying to follow the Android mapping tutorial and got to this part where I had to get an API key http://code.google.com/android/add-ons/google-apis/mapkey.html#getdebugfingerprint I have found my debug.keystore but there does not appear to be a keytool application in the directory: C:\Documents and Settings\tward\.androidls adb_usb.ini avd debug.keystore repositories.cfg androidtool.cfg ddms.cfg default.keyset There is also no keytool in this directory: C:\Android\android-sdk-windows\toolsls AdbWinApi.dll apkbuilder.bat etc1tool.exe mksdcard.exe AdbWinUsbApi.dll ddms.bat fastboot.exe source.properties Jet dmtracedump.exe hierarchyviewer.bat sqlite3.exe NOTICE.txt draw9patch.bat hprof-conv.exe traceview.bat adb.exe emulator.exe layoutopt.bat zipalign.exe android.bat emulator_NOTICE.txt lib I am using eclipse as my editor and believe that I have downloaded all the latest SDK What am I doing wrong? Looped jQuery slideshow with smooth cross-fades

I'm trying to do a simple rotating image on the home page. Under the hood I'm reading a directory and then populating urls for the images into an array. What I want to do is cross-fade the images. If it was just a matter of showing the next one, it's easy, but since I need to cross-fade, it's a bit harder. I think what I want to do is do the fades by calling animate() on the opacity value of the <img> tag, and in between swapping out the css background-image property of the enclosing <div>. But the results are not that great. I've used tools for more full featured slideshows, but I don't want the overhead of adding a plugin if I can avoid it, and a simple crossfade seems like it should be easier. Git-svn refuses to create branch on svn repository error: "not in the same repository"

I am attempting to create a svn branch using git-svn. The repository was created with --stdlayout. Unfortunately it generates an error stating the "Source and dest appear not to be in the same repository". The error appears to be the result of it not including the username in the source url. $ git svn branch foo-as-bar -m "Attempt to make Foo into Bar." Copying svn+ssh://my.foo.company/r/sandbox/foo/trunk at r1173 to svn+ssh://[email protected]/r/sandbox/foo/branches/foo-as-bar... Trying to use an unsupported feature: Source and dest appear not to be in the same repository (src: 'svn+ssh://my.foo.company/r/sandbox/foo/trunk'; dst: 'svn+ssh://[email protected]/r/sandbox/foo/branches/foo-as-bar') at /home/me/.install/git/libexec/git-core/git-svn line 610 I intially thought this was simply a configuration issue, examination of .git/config doesn't suggest anything incorrect. I have a DIV that opens up when an image is hovered. When the user leaves the image, the div disappears after a timeout. How can I make it so that the DIV will stay active if the user was to hover over the DIV itself? So the DIV will stay active as long as the user is on the image or the DIV itself? JSONP request using jquery $.getJSON not working on well formed JSON.

I'm not sure is it possible now from the url I am trying. Please see this url: http://www.heiaheia.com/voimakaksikko/stats.json It always serves the same padding function "voimakaksikkoStats". It is well formed JSON, but I have not been able to load it from remote server. Does it need some work from the server side or can it be loaded with javascript? I think the problems gotta to have something to with that callback function... JQuery is not requirement, but it would be nice. Preventing iframe caching in browser

How do you prevent Firefox and Safari from caching iframe content? I have a simple webpage with an iframe to a page on a different site. Both the outer page and the inner page have HTTP response headers to prevent caching. When I click the "back" button in the browser, the outer page works properly, but no matter what, the browser always retrieves a cache of the iframed page. IE works just fine, but Firefox and Safari are giving me trouble. My webpage looks something like this: <html> <head></head> <body>  <iframe src="webpage2.html?var=xxx" />  </body> </html> The var variable always changes. Despite the fact that the URL of the iframe has changed (and thus, the browser should be making a new request to that page), the browser just fetches the cached content. I've examined the HTTP requests and responses going back and forth, and I noticed that even if the outer page contains <iframe src="webpage2.html?var=222" />, the browser will still fetch webpage2.html?var=111. Here's what I've tried so far: Changing iframe URL with random var value Adding Expires, Cache-Control, and Pragma headers to outer webpage Adding Expires, Cache-Control, and Pragma headers to inner webpage I'm unable to do any JavaScript tricks because I'm blocked by the same-origin policy. I'm running out of ideas. Does anyone know how to stop the browser from caching the iframed content?

Virtual Earth / Bing maps javascript file size

I am working with a site that uses virtual earth for its mapping. Unfortunately the file size of the referenced javascript file, ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=6.2, is 200 something kb before being expanded (to 970kb). As our site runs under https this file is not cached on the client, and can cause a few seconds delay to users, made more substantial in times of high load. My question is, is there anyway to get virtual earth to run smaller, or have more efficient lazy loading? At the moment it looks like our hands are tied.

Multiple synonym dictionary matches in PostgreSQL full text searching

I am trying to do full text searching in PostgreSQL 8.3. It worked splendidly, so I added in synonym matching (e.g. 'bob' == 'robert') using a synonym dictionary. That works great too. But I've noticed that it apparently only allows a word to have one synonym. That is, 'al' cannot be 'albert' and 'allen'. Is this correct? Is there any way to have multiple dictionary matches in a PostgreSQL synonym dictionary? For reference, here is my sample dictionary file: bob robert bobby robert al alan al albert al allen And the SQL that creates the full text search config: CREATE TEXT SEARCH DICTIONARY nickname (TEMPLATE = synonym, SYNONYMS = nickname); CREATE TEXT SEARCH CONFIGURATION dxp_name (COPY = simple); ALTER TEXT SEARCH CONFIGURATION dxp_name ALTER MAPPING FOR asciiword WITH nickname, simple; What am I doing wrong? Global Handler in IIS7 (Classic Mode) gives "Failed to Execute" error

I have made a custom handler called MyIndexHandler and I want it to handle *.index requests, now as I want this handler to be executed by any website, I installed my handler with following two steps in IIS manager. Add MyIndexHandler.dll in GAC Add Managed Module for *.index, the drop down in IIS displays my index handler correctly so it means it did find it correctly from the GAC. I added Script map for aspnet_isapi.dll for *.index (this is required for classic mode) Now in any of my website if I try xyz.index, my handler does not get called and it returns "Failed to execute URL", now this only happens when IIS is unable to find the mapped handler, but I already have defined mapped handler at IIS level and when i try to add entry in web.config manually for this handler, it tells me you can not define multiple handler, it means that IIS finds my handler, mapping but for some reason it does not execute it.

Linq-to-sql Compiled Query is returning result from different DataContext

Compiled query: public static Func<OperationalDataContext, short, Machine> QueryMachineById = CompiledQuery.Compile((OperationalDataContext db, short machineID) => db.Machines.Where(m => m.MachineID == machineID).SingleOrDefault()); It looks like compiled query is caching Machine object and returning the same object even if query is called from new DataContext (I’m disposing DataContext in the service but I’m getting Machine from previous DataContext). I use POCOs and XML mapping. Revised: It looks like compiled query is returning result from new data context and it is not using the one that I passed in compiled-query. Therefore I can not reuse returned object and link it to another object obtained from datacontext thru non compiled queries. I’m using unit of work pattern : // First Call Using(new DataContext) { Machine from DataContext.Table == machine from cached query } // Do some work // Second Call is failing Using(new DataContext) { Machine from DataContext.Table <> machine from cached query }
