• IWshShortcut Target Resolution in Windows 7

  I've got some code to read shortcuts using the Windows Script Host, but it appears to have a problem in Windows 7. When reading shortcuts, if there is an environment variable in the target path, it resolves to the wrong drive. For example, the shortcut to Notepad resolves to D:\Windows\system32\notepad.exe instead of C:\Windows\system32\notepad.exe. The problem is not with my computer's settings, because the shortcut works just fine, and when looking at the value for %SystemRoot%, it shows C:\Windows. Any ideas as to what could be the problem, or alternatively, what a different method of reading shortcuts would be? Thanks, Dan

  I've a jQuery.each(data, foo), where data is either a string or a list of strings. I'd like to know if there's an existing utility function to convert the string to a list, or otherwise perform foo on just the string. So instead of the easy route: if (!$.isArray(data)) { foo(0, data); // can't rely on `this` variable } else { $.each(data,foo); } I was just wondering if there was already a builtin function of jQuery or Javascript that would convert data to a list automatically, like this: function convert_to_list(data) { return $.isArray(data) ? data : [data]; } $.each(convert_to_list(data), foo); Just curious! • free() on stack memory

  I'm supporting some c code on Solaris, and I've seen something weird at least I think it is: char new_login[64]; ... strcpy(new_login, (char *)login); ... free(new_login); My understanding is that since the variable is a local array the memory comes from the stack and does not need to be freed, and moreover since no malloc/calloc/realloc was used the behaviour is undefined. This is a real-time system so I think it is a waste of cycles. Am I missing something obvious?

  I'm building a few SharePoint sites, and I want to make use of zones so I may set security different in the various zones. My workstation has a local SharePoint, and I use it for development. My workstation has a static IP, and is connected to the internet. When I make a SharePoint site, I want to add a host header, for instance, devbox.com. I do not own this name, nor do I want to. I then add an entry in my hosts file, but when I surf to http://devbox.com:8080, it does not resolve. Do I need to register the name I want to use, or should this work, i.e., have my hosts file resolve names/IPs first?

  Hello World, I have an assignment and i got a library including an interface class. [InfoItem] I implement this class [Item]. Now i am required to write a method watchProgram(InfoItem item) [other class, importing InfoItem], which (as shown) requires an InfoItem. The passed parameter item has a variable 'Recorded' [boolean] which i want to edit using a method changeRecorded() that i defined in the implementation of InfoItem. I cannot edit the interface and i get an error message that the method is not found [cannot find symbol].. Any hints, suggestions, solutions? Thanks!! -Samuel-

• Why is thread local storage so slow?

  I'm working on a custom mark-release style memory allocator for the D programming language that works by allocating from thread-local regions. It seems that the thread local storage bottleneck is causing a huge (~50%) slowdown in allocating memory from these regions compared to an otherwise identical single threaded version of the code, even after designing my code to have only one TLS lookup per allocation/deallocation. This is based on allocating/freeing memory a large number of times in a loop, and I'm trying to figure out if it's an artifact of my benchmarking method. My understanding is that thread local storage should basically just involve accessing something through an extra layer of indirection, similar to accessing a variable via a pointer. Is this incorrect? How much overhead does thread-local storage typically have? Note: Although I mention D, I'm also interested in general answers that aren't specific to D, since D's implementation of thread-local storage will likely improve if it is slower than the best implementations.

  Consider a situation. I have an in-proc COM server that contains two COM classes. Both classes are marked as "no threading model" in the registry - the "ThreadingModel" value is just absent. Both classes read/write the same set of global variable without any synchronization. As far as I know "no threading model" will enforce COM to disallow concurrent access to the same or different instances of the same class by different threads. Will COM prevent concurrent access to instances of the two abovementioned different classes? Do I need synchronization when accessing the global variables from two different COM classes in this situation?

  Hi everyone! Here's the situation I have a webpage which has one drop down called prefer. I wanted the user to be able to choose one option and then have a link next to it called "Add" which generates another textbox with the same options, i was going to use jquery to show an additional drop down. But if possible I wanted to put the select box in an array and then loop through this process infinitely. so I could call select name="prefer[]" and somehow put in a variable which increases. Afterwards, I could use php to cycle through the array and utilize each one. Could I do this with Javascript somehow?

  Hi, I am attempting to add an Interbase connection pool to GlassFish v3 to use EJB 3.1 in a project. The glassfish log appears to be connecting to my database properly, it spits out all my table names and indices. However, I get an error INFO: fetching database metadata SEVERE: could not complete schema update java.lang.NullPointerException at interbase.interclient.ResultSet.local_Close(Unknown Source) ... And when I ping the connection pool from within Glassfish I receive "Ping failed Exception - null". I have the following properties set with my connectionpool: resource type: javax.sql.DataSource Datasource Classname: interbase.interclient.DataSource portNumber: 3050 as well as my database info. I can't seem to find information elsewhere. This question is similar but did not receive an answer. thanks.

  Is there any way to create a multidinensional array that contains arrays of different lengths (similar to nesting arrays of different lengths in python). Because if I were to declare a variable Dim accounts(2,2) As Integer all 1D arrays at each dimension have the same length. Is there any way to create an array so that this is not the case? e.g The above code would create an array like this: [[0,0],[0,0]] but would it be possible to create this: [[0,0],[0,0,0]] Apologies for the poor explanation but I cannot think of any better ways to explain.

  So I'm using a basic formmail script. Within the script I'm using a redirect variable. The value of the redirect is something like,"http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&IBC=CSEE&SIBC=CSEE" When the redirect action happens however, the url appears in the browser as: http://www.mysite.com/NewOLS_GCUK_EN/bling.aspx?BC=GCUK&amp;IBC=CSEE&amp;SIBC=CSEE you can see the &'s are replaced with "& a m p ;" is there any way to fix this?   I'm a D3.js newbie and I'm learning how to play around with data. Let's say I have an object with names as keys, and each key has an array of numbers like this: var userdata = { 'John' : [0, 1, 3, 9, 8, 7], 'Harry': [0, 10, 7, 1, 1, 11], 'Steve': [3, 1, 4, 4, 4, 17], 'Adam' : [4, 77, 2, 13, 11, 13] }; For each user, I would like to append an SVG object and then plot the line with the array of values for that user. So here is my assumption of how that would look based on tutorials, but I know it is incorrect. This is to show my limited knowledge and give better understanding of what I'm doing: First I should create the line var line = d3.svg.line().interpolate('basis'); Then I want to bind the data to my body and append an svg element for each key: d3.select('body') .selectAll('svg') .data(userdata) .enter() .append('svg') .append(line) .x(function(d, i) { return i; }) .y(function(d) { return d[i]; }); So am I close??

• SSH Chown problems

  I have a webserver with multiple domain and user accounts setup. Recently I renamed one of the domain names and changed it's username correspondingly. However, this new user cannot access the data from the domain because it does not have the required permissions. How can I solve this problem? I've tried chown and I still cannot get access to the files. I have SSH root access and this is the only way I can actually move/touch the files but the webserver displays the file through another username which does not have access to the files. Thanks

• Change Casing in WCF Service Reference

  I'm creating a service reference to a web service written in Java. The generated classes now follow the Java casing convention used in the web service, for example class names are camelCase rather than PascalCase. Is there a way to get the desired casing from the service reference? CLARIFICATION: With WSE based services, one could modify the generated Reference.cs to provide .NET standard casing and use XmlElementAttribute to map to the Java naming presented by the external web service, like this: [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute("resultType", Form=System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaForm.Unqualified)] [System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMember] public virtual MyResultType ResultType { ... } Not terribly maintenance-friendly without writing custom code to either generate the proxy code or modify it after it's been generated. What I'm after is one or more options to present a WCF generated client proxy to calling applications using the .NET casing conventions, achieving the same as I did previously with WSE. Hopefully with less manual effort.
