• Jquery.form plugin and jquery.validation and it's submitHandler not working correctly... please help

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to. • Jquery droppable live disabling/enabling

  I have a some draggables in a list of droppables (1 draggable per droppable li). When I move a draggable from one droppable to another free droppable, I want to diable the receiving droppable, and enable the droppable it is leaving from. In firebug the droppable class gets removed – but the functionality of the droppable remains.   I'm loading an external script (that creates a new window component) into a panel, which works fine. Now, I want to access the created window from a callback function to register a closed event handler. I've tried the following: panel.load({ scripts: true, url: '/createWindow', callback: function(el, success, response, options) { panel.findByType("window")[0].on("close", function { alert("Closed"); }); } }); However, the panel seems to be empty all the time, the findByType method keeps returning an empty collection. I've tried adding events handlers for events like added to the panel but none of them got fired. So the question is: how do I access the window in the panel to register my close event handler on it?

• science.js’s loess() output is identical to input

  Rendered project available here. The line is supposed to be a trend line (as rendered with LOESS), but it merely follows each data point instead. I am no stats wonk, so maybe it makes sense that a LOESS function’s output would match the input as seen in the above example, but it strikes me as being wrong.   I've a jQuery.each(data, foo), where data is either a string or a list of strings. I'd like to know if there's an existing utility function to convert the string to a list, or otherwise perform foo on just the string. So instead of the easy route: if (!$.isArray(data)) { foo(0, data); // can't rely on `this` variable } else { $.each(data,foo); } I was just wondering if there was already a builtin function of jQuery or Javascript that would convert data to a list automatically, like this: function convert_to_list(data) { return $.isArray(data) ? data : [data]; } $.each(convert_to_list(data), foo); Just curious! • Student's t distribution in JavaScript

  Google Spreadsheets currently does not support the standard function TDIST - i.e. the Student's t-distribution. This function is critical for calculating p-values. It seems that this is related to the fact that no integral-using functions (AFAICT) are implemented either. However, Google Docs allows people to add and publish their own scripts, in JavaScript. So ideally we should have something like: function tdist(t_value, degrees_of_freedom, two_tailed [defaults true]) {...} Anyone know of either an extant implementation of this (my google-fu has not turned up one, but may be weaker than yours) or a good idea for how to do it? I'd like to publish this together with some other useful functions that are currently calculable but a bit of a pain (like Student's t-test itself). Thanks!

• Throwing exceptions as well as catching exceptions?

  I was wondering how Java takes the following scenario public static void main(String[] args) throws IndexOutOfBoundsException, CoordinateException, MissionException, SQLException, ParserConfigurationException { try { doSomething(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } In the above code, I am declaring the main function to throw many different exceptions, but inside the function, I am catching the generic Exception. I am wondering how java takes this internally? I.e., say doSomething() throws an IndexOutOfBounds exception, will the e.printStackTrace() get called in the last catch (Exception e) {...} block? I know if an exception not declared in the throws area of the function gets thrown, the try/catch will handle it, but what about exceptions mentioned in the declaration?

  I can't seem to get inline Javascript indenting properly in Vim. Argh! }); Vim seems to insist on automatically indenting the closing brace shown in the second case there. It does the same if I re-indent the whole file. How do I get it to automatically indent using the more standard JS indenting style seen in the first case?

  I am having a problem with GameQuery (jQuery) collision detection Tthey just never seem to fire?!? I have checked all the .arrow's exist and the same for the .bot's but it just never seems to call the function I have the below code in my main callback: $(".bot").each(function(){ $(this).collision(".arrow").each(function(){ alert("Test"); }); }); Do you have any idea why this would just simply be doing nothing? • Hiding a dropdown menu without it flashing with prototype

  I have a number of dropdowns and divs that are hidden when the page loads and can be toggled with a click or mouseover, but some of them flash b/c the javascript does not run in time. I have their display initially set to block and then I use javascript/prototype to find the element and hide it. I have tried loading these "hider" functions using dom:loaded but there is still flashing. This is an example of a dropdown prototype initialization funtion. • Stack / base pointers in assembly

  I know this topic has been covered ad-naseum here, and other places on the internet - but hopefully the question is a simple one as I try to get my head around assembly... So if i understand correctly the ebp (base pointer) will point to the top of the stack, and the esp (stack pointer) will point to the bottom -- since the stack grows downward. esp therefore points to the 'current location'. So on a function call, once you've saved the ebp on the stack you insert a new stack frame - for the function. So in the case of the image below, if you started from N-3 you would go to N-2 with a function call. But when you are at N-2 - is your ebp == 25 and the esp == 24 (at least initially, before any data is placed on the stack)? Is this correct or am I of on a tangent here? Thanks!

  I am trying to reference a javascript function in a .js file loaded in my main page from an iframe using the 'top' variable. It works in FF, Safari, and IE6 but not in IE8. The snippet is (assigned to onmouseover): top.set_image(this, 'images/login_h.png') Where set_image is my function. The error is "Object does not support this function" Also, I have been looking for the definition of top. I can't find it in the ECMAScript specification or the w3schools site and Google is unhelpful (who'da thunk top was a common word?).
