• Is it worthwhile to implement observer pattern in PHP?

  I have been meaning to make use of design pattern in PHP, such as the observer pattern, but that I have to recreate the observers' relationship each time the page is loaded pains me. As references are saved as a new concrete objects in session, there is no way to preserve relationships between subscribers and their observers unless you use a GUID or some other properties to form a lookup, and store that property instead. With the cost of recreating the relationships each time a page is loaded, is it worthwhile to use design patterns such as observers in PHP, compared to having a clean design? Any real-world experience to share?

• Multiple MCs, Single Listener, AsBroadcaster

  I'm currently working trying to have multiple MCs inside a container MC which when they mini MCs are clicked will broadcast a message so that I can act upon them. This would be simple in AS 3 as it would be mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, obj); however, this is AS 2 and so I am semi-forced to use the broadcastMessage('myMessage'); and mc.addListener(obj); event handler. The main problem is that the broadcaster isn't broadcasting any messages. The second problem is that there are 5 MCs and when I click one of them, I get 5 trace messages about the click. I can't seem to keep the MC clicks unique even though they are all given separate instance names vie the properties panel. Any help would be appreciated. • Issue with child of custom Decorator class in WPF

  I need a custom border that renders a little differently than a normal border. I made a class that inherited from Decorator as follows class BetterBorder : Decorator { protected override Size ArrangeOverride(Size arrangeSize) { return arrangeSize; } protected override void OnRender(DrawingContext dc) { //these values are calculated elsewhere dc.DrawGeometry(backgroundBrush, borderPen, pathGeometry); } } //Properties and helper methods below this All of this works fine until I try to add a child to the control, the control can be added but is not visible and seems to be moved off BetterBorders visible client area. If I inherit from Border everything works fine, what am I missing?

• CruiseControl: How to read logs from exec task

  I start an external groovy script via cruisecontrol, which basically works. My problem is that if the groovy script fails I only get the "error string found" in my cruise webapp and email; its even not in the log files. The groovy script writes it output to stdout and to a logfile. • Why aren't APT generated classes being compiled by Eclipse?

  In my Eclipse project I'm using a third-party annotation processor, Hibernate Metamodel Generator to be exact. The annotation processor works as expected and generates files as specified by the spec. These files are generated inside the directory of the Eclipse project under a "gen" folder. In the project properties this is correctly reflected since two source folders exist - "src" and "gen." However, when the project is built for some reason all the [generated] sources under "gen" are not compiled (checking the "bin" directory I only see .class file from the "src" directory). Does anyone know why this is happening?

  I have created a new VCL component based on an existing VCL component. What I want to do now is set the Password and Username properties from an ini file instead of the property inspector. Robert Dunn Link I read on the delphi forum above you cannot unpublish a property and that the only workaround is to redeclare the property as read-only. I tried this but it all it does is make the property read only and grayed out in the object inspector. • Marshal struct to unmanaged array

  Hi guys, I have a C# struct to represent a cartesian vector, something like this: public struct Vector { private double x; private double y; private double z; //Some properties/methods } Now I have an unmanaged C dll that I need to call with P/Invoke. Some methods expect a double[3] parameter. The unmanaged C signature is something like void Cross(double a[3], double b[3], double c[3]); Is there any way to set up a P/Invoke signature so I can pass instances of my Vector struct and marshal them transparently to unmanaged double[3]? I would also need bidirectional marshaling as the unmanaged function needs to write the output to the argument array, so I guess I would need to marshal as LpArray. Any ideas? Thanks Pedro

• How do I specify table data only for the current user's ID (VWD asp.net 3.5) ?

  I'm using the Details View control of VWD asp.net 2008 I have a users database table and one of the columns contain the "unique" user's profile ID, created by VWD from the automatic profiles table. From my table, I would like to select only the data pertaining to the logged in user. How do I get the current unique user profileID and then have that used for the query? What I have so far: In the configure data source option of the control I select the columns I would like to display, select the check box for "Return Only Unique IDs" and the WHERE option. In this new window I select the Column to the profile userID ... "=" and then assumed I should select Source: "Profile". Now what should the parameter properties or value be to select only the logged userID specific data of the table? Any help is appreciated. Thank You!

  Using Visual Studio 2005, is there a way to export the images in an Image List to individual files on my PC? Using the IDE, I select the Image List and view its properties. In the "Images" property, I launch the Images Collection Editor dialog. I can only add and remove images, but I cannot find a way to export an image that is already in the list. Why? The developer who made the original list has left our company and I need the images for an ASP.NET application (will convert to .jpeg). Thank you for the help!

• How to use MSBuild to create ClickOnce files that match those created by Visual Studio

  I am trying to use MSBuild in a TFS Build file to create click once files for my application. According to MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165431.aspx) it seems that the project file's click once settings should be used unless you override them with property arguments on the command line. However, even though I have specified (in VS) that some prerequisites should be bootstrapped in with the setup, they don't seem to get installed if I use the MSBuild command line to create the package, even though they do seem to get installed if I use Visual Studio to create the ClickOnce package. Please could someone advise me how to get my prerequisites to get installed via ClickOnce when the clickonce package is built using the MSBuild command line? For information, in Visual Studio, project properties, "Publish" tab, "Prerequisite" button, I have ticked "Create setup program to install prerequisite components", I have ticked my pre-requisites and I have specified "Download prerequisites from the component vendor's web site"

• MVVM - RaisePropertyChanged turning code into a mess

  New to MVVM so please excuse my ignorance. I THINK i'm using it right but I find my ViewModel has too many of these: RaisePropertyChanged("SomeProperty") Every time I set a property I have to raise that damned property changed. I miss the days where I could just go: public int SomeInteger { get; private set;} These days I have to stick the "RaisePropertyChanged" in everywhere or my UI does not reflect the changes :( Am I doing it wrong or are other people getting annoyed with the excessive number of magic strings and old school property setters? Should I be using dependency properties instead? (I doubt that would help the code bloat anyway) Despite these problems I still think MVVM is the way to go so I guess that's something.

• jQuery DataTables is messing op my CSS grids in IE8, how to fix?

  I am using ASP.NET MVC3 with the jQuery Datatable plug in. I am having an issues with my CSS layout when the datatable is on a page. If there is no datatable then everything displays fine. When the datatable is on the screen then it overlaps the footer of my website. I can't seem to get this to display correctly. I have a grid layout using the YUI3, and this is what I all use from YUI3 (in this order): cssreset-min cssfonts-min cssgrids-min cssbase-min This works fine in the latest version of FireFox. I am only testing on IE8, this is a requirement and most of the people at my work uses IE8. I have minified my HTML so that only the bare minimum is available. • Cross Thread Exception in PropertyChangedEvent in WPF

  I have a ListView that is binded to my custom collection. At run time , I am updating the certain properties of my entity in my custom collection in my ViewModel. At the same time , I am also doing the custom sorting in the listview. The custom sorting is applicable when I click on the any column header of the listview. For example, I am updating the current datetime on my entity on every 5 seconds and simulaneously , I am applying custom sorting based on DateTime. (The Listview is third party control). Hence I am doing two operations on my custom collection at the same time. Should I pass the dispatcher of my control in the view model and call any methods ( which updates any entity in my custom collection ) through UI dispatcher ?

  I have a JTextField, where I've set some custom properties: nameField.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(275,40)); nameField.setBackground(bgColor); nameField.setForeground(txtColor); nameField.setFont(new Font("HelveticaNeue",Font.PLAIN,22)); nameField.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.WHITE, 2)); When the component has focus, there is no highlight shown around the field. On a Mac, it is usually a blue glowing rectangle, indicating that this component has focus. If I comment out the nameField.setBorder(...), the highlight reappears. How do I keep the highlight, but also my custom border!? Basically, I just want the highlight-border to show when the component has focus, and no border when the component is unfocused.

• CLR debugger and 'var'

  I'm using the CLR debugger (version 8, from "Visual Studio 2005") to debug some C# code. I can step through my code, but for many variables, the debugger won't show me its value. That is, if I type it in the "Immediate" frame or add it to the "Watch" frame, it says "Unable to evaluate the expression.". It seems to do this a lot for var variables, but I'm also seeing it for parameters and properties, too. I have not been able to figure out what the pattern is. Is there a rule for when it can display the value of a variable? Is there something I need to do to my code, or in my build script, to make the debugger able to view variables? Or is there a hidden debugger setting?

  i have been trying to uplaod an application to apple store for 2 days now..first they said the provisioning profile was not right due to which i had to make a new one and upload it again now after that problem was solved while uploading the new binary it said the version was same with the previous minor version(1.0 - which someone else uploaded in my company)..then i changed the version to 1.1 by changing it in target info properties..then i cleaned all targets quite the xcode,restarted the xcode and build the project again..it succeeded and now wen i uploaded it it still says the same error version same with the previous minor version is there any other way of changing the version number though in my info.plist file it is showing version:1.1??

• Are there any PHP DocBlock parser tools available?

  I would like to build some smaller scale but hightly customized documentation sites for a few projects. PhpDocumentor is pretty great but it is very heavy. I thought about trying to tweak the templates for that but after spending only a couple of minutes looking into it I decided that it would be too much work. Ideally I'd like to see something to which I could pass a bunch of files and have it return all of the files, classes and properties and methods, along with their meta data, so that I could build out some simple templates based on the data. Are there any DocBlock parser-only projects that will help me in this task, or am I stuck reinventing that wheel?

Now I'd like to expand / collapse the groups with a single mouse-click (not with a double click as the default behaviour). • ASP.NET ASPX Designer question. Bug?

  Check out this Screenshot. Shouldn't a hierarchy list of tags appear here? Usually it appears. Sometimes, the tag "appears" there but without text (but the tag object is there as evident when you hover over it.) Other times, like this, nothing appears. It's a usual feature to see the hierarchy or tags which gives me easily access to the tags from design view for easy altering in the properties window. I think too many developers love to do things the hard way and sludge thru tags in HTML view and hardly use this, but it frustrates me when it doesn't work all the time. Is it me? Nah....

  Where can I find some good documentation on data/element binding? My Google searches haven't turned much up. I had a custom class with two properties named Text and Value. When I tried binding a list to a listbox it wouldn't work. By chance I modifed my datatemplate from this <TextBox Text="{Binding Text}"></TextBox> to this <TextBox Text="{Binding Path=Text}"></TextBox> and then everything worked great. I need some indepth documenation/samples to data/element binding. I don't understand why some examples have the path set whereas others do not. A full explanation of this, and all other nice to know tips would be much appreciated.

  Hello. I am having a real headache trying to set a node's local position to match a given world position. I was given a solution but, AFAICS, it only takes into account orientation and position but NOT scaling : node_new_local_position = node_parent.derivedOrientation().Inverse() * ( world_position_to_match - node_parent.derivedPosition() ); The node in question is a child of node_parent; node_parent local and derived properties (orientation, position and scaling) are known, as well as its full matrix transform. All the positions are 3d vectors; the orientation is a quaternion; the full transform is a 4x4 matrix. Could someone please help me to modify the solution to support scaling in the node hierarchy? • 100% height with fixed footer and embedded Google Map

  I have a problem with a layout - it's not online anywhere, just local, but if you copy and paste the code below into an html page and run it locally you will see the same page I do. It's very nearly there. What I'm trying to achieve is a page with no scrollbars using up all available vertical space. Yes, I can set "overflow:hidden" on the container declaration and that helps, but it's not quite right. I want to actually have the google map surrounded with a 1em border. I have this on 3 sides but the 100% height declaration on the content div crashes the bottom border. If you don't realise the implications of a percentage-sized google map div, then the parent HAS to have a height declared for it to work. As the footer is absolute and outside of the flow, there is no "bottom" border to work to and the layout just doesn't work. The content div 100% height basically seems to take its size from the viewport and not the containing div. It's driving me mad... just can't seem to work out how to do this and I'd really appreciate some input.
