• Why do I get different results from profiler in Visual Studio 2010 RC

  I have setup 1 project in VS2010 RC. A workflow console application that simply counts from 1 to 10000 and writes each number to console. When I execute "F5" this application it takes minutes to finish, but when i execute this application with profiling it finishes in 3-5 seconds. Does anyone know why?

  In the application my company publishes, we refer to 3rd-party software in several places: user manual, in the application UI itself, etc. Are we legally required to display the trademark or registration mark symbols next to the trademarked/registered names of 3rd-party software? If so, must they be displayed every time the name is mentioned, or is it sufficient to acknowledge the registration once (for example, in the application's splash screen or the introduction section of the user manual)?

  I am developing asp.net web service. I am developing this web service so that OPC ( OLE for process control) client application can use it. In this web service I am using the built-in functions provided by the namespaces using OPC, using OPCDA, using OPCDA.NET. I have also added the namespace using System.Windows.Forms in this web service so that I can use the windows form control. (default) ItemShowTreeList.Show(OpcSrv.ServerName); } In the above web method I need to pass the values to the built-in function ShowBrowseTreeList() (found in OPC, OPCDA, OPCDA.NET namespaces). This function takes the two parameter of windows form control type. These parameters are Treeview & ListView control of the windows form. In the above web method ShowBrowseTreeList() method automatically create the treeview & listview structure of the available items. Now as I am consuming the web service so I need to pass the values to the webmethod getOPCServerItems(). But as I my consuming application is asp.net application there is no such windows form control. In asp.net application there are also & control. I want to display The data returned in these asp.net controls rather than windows form control. I am not getting the way what should I need to do or how should I pass the values form my client application to this web service ? In the above method getOPCServerItems() when I use the parameter of type treeview & listview it generate s error "Cannot serialize member System.ComponentModel.Component.Site of type System.ComponentModel.ISite because it is an interface.". Can you provide me the the way In which I can write the above web method & how should I pass parameter to the Treeview & Listview control (windows form control) from my asp.net application ? which controls I should use to pass parameters ? Is there any need to do any type of casting ? Can you provide me the the code for above web method so that I can resolve the above issue ?

I have one API controller and a few Groovy classes in src/groovy folder. If you have DTD processing enabled, you can use the XmlSecureResolver to restrict the resources that the XmlReader can access. You can also design your application so that the XML processing is memory and time constrained. For example, configure time-out limits in your ASP.NET application. Can someone please explain the issue? Why would a reader application want to prohibit the retrieval of a DTD? Where is the denial-of-service issue, if it is a reading application?   I'm building an iPhone application that talks to a Ruby on Rails backend. The Ruby on Rails application will also service web users. The restful_authentication plugin is an excellent way to provide quick and customizable user authentication. However, I would like users of the iPhone application to have an account created automatically by the phone's unique identifier ([[UIDevice device] uniqueIdentifier]) stored in a new column. Later, when users are ready to create a username/password, the account will be updated to contain the username and password, leaving the iPhone unique identifier intact. Users should not be able to access the website until they've setup their username/password. They can however, use the iPhone application, since the application can authenticate itself using it's identifier. What is the best way to modify restful_authentication to do this? Create a plugin? Or modify the generated code? What about alternative frameworks, such as AuthLogic. What is the best way to allow iPhones to get a generated auth token locked to their UUID's, but then let the user create a username/password later?

• Preserving alpha issues with loaded UIImages - how to avoid discarding alpha values on import?

  My application lets the user save/load images with alpha values to the camera roll on the device. I can see in the Photos application that these images are appropriately alpha'd, as alpha'd areas just appear black. However, when I load these images back into the application using the valueForKey:UIImagePickerControllerOriginalImage message to the info dictionary from (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info, the alpha values are turned to just white, making those sections opaque. Is there a way to preserve these alpha values?

  This is the error Dependency Walker gives me on an executable that I am building with VC++ 2005 Express Edition. When trying to run the .exe, I get: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. (I am new to the manifest/SxS/etc. way of doing things post VC++ 2003.) EDIT: I am running on the same machine I am building the .exe with. In Event Viewer, I have the unhelpful: Faulting application blah.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module blah.exe, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x004239b0.

• Populate an SSRS Report parameter(hidden) by a sproc or user defined function

  My SSRS report fetches data from my DATAWAREHOUSE. The ASP.NET application I have is connected to an OLTP database. I invoke the SSRS Report from my ASP.NET application and provide a parameter as CustomerID(this is an application key in datawarehouse) to my report. Since my report is connected to my datawarehouse, I do not query my report databased on the OLTP's CustomerID. Instead I use my datawarehouse's surrogate key (CustomerDimKey). Now, in my report, I need to find the correct surrogate key for the CustomerID parameter, which I passed from my ASP.NET application! My report already has a parameter as @CustomerDimKey(this is used across all the report sprocs). We used it for testing, but now we'll hide this as we have integrated it with the ASP.NET application. I have already added a new parameter to the report as @CustomerID(this will have the OLTP's CustomerID), which will now get a value from ASP.NET. I need to know a way to re-use the @CustomerDimKey report parameter, which should now get value from a sql statement or a sproc once the report is requested. Based on the value contained by the @CustomerID parameter.

• Lose changed data in session

  Our asp.net 2.0 application has a very long process (synchronized) before sending response back to client. I observed that a second request, exactly same the initial one, was sent after client IE8 waited response for a long period of time while our application was still processing the first request. I use page session with predefined key to store a flag when the initial request arrives and then starts long process while client IE waits for the response, so if second request comes in, our application checks the session value. After our application sets the session flag and starts processing, I use Fiddler “Abort Session” to abort the initial request, right away the second request (same as the first one) is sent automatically, but session value set earlier seems no longer exist. Any thoughts?

• Problem generating APN SSL certificate after submitting to apple store

  I'm having trouble getting Apple to generate an APN SSL certificate for my app ID. I've submitted the application to the Apple store, and it is pending review. I tested the application using an Ad Hoc app ID "${bundle_id}.adHoc" and everything went fine. I submitted to the Apple store with app ID "${bundle_id}.release". Now I want to generate my production APN SSL certificate for use with my release application ID - but the developer portal doesn't want to. When I upload my certificate request, it sits for about a minute before telling me: "We are not able to generate your Profile at this time. Please try again later or try using the Provisioning Portal" Is it impossible to generate your certificate while the application is under review or something? Should I have generated it prior to submission?

  I have a crawler application (with C#) that downloads pages from web . The application take more virtual memory , even i dispose every object and even use GC.Collect() . This , have 10 thread and each thread has a socket that downloads pages . I use dispose method and even use GC.Collect() in my application , but in 3 hour my application take 500 MB on virtual memory (500 MB on private bytes in Process explorer) . Then my system will be hang and i should restart my pc . Is there any way that i use to free vitual memory ? Thanks .

• Automatic Deployment to Multiple Production Environments

  I want to update an ASP .NET web application (including web.config file changes and database scripts) to multiple production environments - ideally with the click of a button. I do not have direct network connectivity to any of them. I think this means the application servers will have to "pull" the information required for updating the application, and run a script to update the application that resides on the server. Basically, I need a way to "publish" an update, and the servers see that update and automatically download and run it. I've thought about possibly setting up an SFTP server for publishing updates, and developing a custom tool which is installed on production environments which looks at the SFTP server every day and downloads application files if they are available. That would at least get the required files onto the servers, and I could use xcopy/robocopy and Migrator.NET to deploy the updates. Still not sure about config file changes, but that at least gets me somewhere. Is there any good solution for this scenario? Are there any tools that do this for you?

• segfault during __cxa_allocate_exception in SWIG wrapped library

  While developing a SWIG wrapped C++ library for Ruby, we came across an unexplained crash during exception handling inside the C++ code. I'm not sure of the specific circumstances to recreate the issue, but it happened first during a call to std::uncaught_exception, then after a some code changes, moved to __cxa_allocate_exception during exception construction. Neither GDB nor valgrind provided any insight into the cause of the crash. I've found several references to similar problems, including: http://wiki.fifengine.de/Segfault_in_cxa_allocate_exception http://forums.fifengine.de/index.php?topic=30.0 http://code.google.com/p/osgswig/issues/detail?id=17 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libavg/+bug/241808 The overriding theme seems to be a combination of circumstances: A C application is linked to more than one C++ library More than one version of libstdc++ was used during compilation Generally the second version of C++ used comes from a binary-only implementation of libGL The problem does not occur when linking your library with a C++ application, only with a C application The "solution" is to explicitly link your library with libstdc++ and possibly also with libGL, forcing the order of linking. After trying many combinations with my code, the only solution that I found that works is the LD_PRELOAD="libGL.so libstdc++.so.6" ruby scriptname option. That is, none of the compile-time linking solutions made any difference. My understanding of the issue is that the C++ runtime is not being properly initialized. By forcing the order of linking you bootstrap the initialization process and it works. The problem occurs only with C applications calling C++ libraries because the C application is not itself linking to libstdc++ and is not initializing the C++ runtime. Because using SWIG (or boost::python) is a common way of calling a C++ library from a C application, that is why SWIG often comes up when researching the problem. Is anyone out there able to give more insight into this problem? Is there an actual solution or do only workarounds exist? Thanks.

  Recently, i have upgraded my iPhone SDK OS from version 2.2.1 to 3.0 version. After that while building my application i get an error the the provisioning profile has expired. So i created a new provisioning profile. Then i made the distribution of my application with the provisioning profile. But i get an error in iTunes while syncing my application into iPhone device. The error message is "The application"iGVA " was not installed on the iPhone because the entitlements are not valid." I checked the code signing Entitlements that contains the correct entitlement plist file. Please suggest me to solve it out. Any help would be appreciated ! Sathiya

• Setting default language for iPhone app on first run

  I'm developing an application that should support two languages: English and French. However because English translation is not done yet we want to deploy it in French only and later on add English translation later on. The problem is that I don't want to strip English language out of my code since some parts are already done, there are different NIBs for that language etc. Instead I'd just want english language to be temporary disabled in my app. What I did is I put this code as the first instruction of - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [defaults setObject:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"fr", nil] forKey:@"AppleLanguages"]; [defaults synchronize]; It works fine except for one thing. When you launch the application for the first time after installation it's still in English. That's probably because AppleLanguages preference was not yet set for it. After I quit the application and start it again it's being displayed correctly in French. Does anyone knows a fix so that French language was applied also on the first run?

  This is yet another question about .ico files. I have read through many pages trying to figure this out but I am unable to. When I go to Properties - Application of my Windows Form Application there is a place for me to pick the icon for my application. I have made a 32x32 icon and it takes it just fine, but the image is grainy when it is applied to my .exe file, like it is a picture that has been expanded more than it should have. 1.) Why is this? 2.) Is there any .ico file size other than 32x32 than a Windows Form Application can accept? I have tried 48x48 but it doesn't like that. I just want my .exe file to look nice!

  Hopefully this explanation will make sense, but what is the best way (if it is even possible) to pass along user credentials to preform a specific application from an ASP.NET MVC application. Currently I am working on trying to create directories on another server, we can't do this using the generic credentials that the application is running with; however, we have been told that we can if we pass the credentials of the user currently using the application along. Currently we are running on IIS 6.0 but will be moving to IIS 7.0 in the near future and likewise we are using Integrated Windows authentication for the web applications.

• Splitting EJBs and interfaces into separate module -- deployment fails

  I'm having trouble following this guide to "extract" my interfaces and entities from my EAR to use them from another Web Application: I use NetBeans 6.8 and Glassfish 3.0.1 "Java Class Library" project contains all the entities and interfaces "Java EE Application" project class library added to the project, is packaged into the EAR contains EJB implementations, MDBs, Test "Java Web Application" project class library added to the project, is packaged into the WAR contains REST interface When I build and deploy the Web Application, all goes well. When I build the JEE application, I can see the jar-file (interfaces, entities) being included. But when I try to deploy the EAR, Glassfish refuses it with a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError error: [#|2010-03-28T18:25:59.875+0200|WARNING|glassfishv3.0|javax.enterprise.system.tools.deployment.org.glassfish.deployment.common|_ThreadID=28;_ThreadName=Thread-1;|Error in annotation processing: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: mvs/core/StoreServiceLocal|#] [#|2010-03-28T18:25:59.876+0200|SEVERE|glassfishv3.0|javax.enterprise.system.core.com.sun.enterprise.v3.server|_ThreadID=28;_ThreadName=Thread-1;|Exception while deploying the app java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid ejb jar [CoreServer]: it contains zero ejb.   Situation: I have an Eclipse RCP Application, which I am trying to build with tycho plugin for Eclipse. When I am executing my Eclipse Application inside of the IDe - the Application is executed normally. When using tycho to build the Application - the following error is thrown: The type org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Button cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files What I did : In other cases where a "missing requirenments" exception was thrown, which I found - a missing transitive plugin-dependency was the reason. In my case an SWT widget "Button" is missing, so I am trying to import swt. SWT is platform dependant so I am importing swt inside of the product, as described here. Anyway, during compilation the error occurs again. Question: Do someone have any Idea, how to solve this Problem?
