  In my program I have used an alert dialog box on onclick event. But after running my program on event onclick the alert dialog box opens and allows filling information in it. and then on click of ok button alert dialog if condition is matched than data will be submitted and intent will pass otherwise in toast msg it will show something like enter correct password or loginid etc. but when on second click of button on which I have set alertdialogbox the thread msg will appear and it will close the program so what is the solution for this.   The problem is this: I have multiple competing threads (100+) that need to access one database table Each thread will pass a String name - where that name exists in the table, the database should return the id for the row, where the name doesn't already exist, the name should be inserted and the id returned. There can only ever be one instance of name in the database - ie. name must be unique How do I ensure that thread one doesn't insert name1 at the same time as thread two also tries to insert name1? In other words, how do I guarantee the uniqueness of name in a concurrent environment? This also needs to be as efficient as possible - this has the potential to be a serious bottleneck. I am using MySQL and Java. Thanks

• What is the accepted way to replace java.util.Date(year,month,day)

  I'm trying to do something really simple, but starting to realize that dates in Java are a bit of minefield. All I want is to get passed groups of three ints ( a year, a month and a date) create some Date objects, do some simple test on them (along the lines of as date A before date B and after January 1 1990), convert them to java.sql.Date objects and pass them off to the database via JDBC. All very simple and works fine using the java.util.Date(int year,int month,int day) constructor. Of course that constructor is depreciated, and I'd like to avoid using depreciated calls in new code I'm writing. However all the other options to solve this simple problem seem stupidly complicated. Is there really no simple way to do what I want without using depreciated constructors? I know the standard answer to all Java date related questions is "use joda time", but I really don't want to start pulling in third party libraries for such a seemingly trivial problem.

  If you extend SQLiteOpenHelper, for the Constructor you have to use a Context. I am wondering if there is a way to leave this out, and be able to work with database tables without a Context. Or at least be least restrictive, I mean a way of project/class structure that will make history the several context passings I have to do now. As it is my application has several level of classes, chained in each other, and there are a few that connects to the database, but have no whatsoever influence on the interface, so they don't actually need the Context. Are you creating your classes in the way that you pass each time a Context to them? If not, how you do, how you reuse a Context in a short class?

  I have a django model as follows: class Person(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=255) class Relationship(models.Model): parent = models.ForeignKey(Person) child = models.ForeignKey(Person) description = models.TextField(blank=True) In my view, I pass a certain person, and the relationships in which he/she is parent: person = Person.objects.filter(name ='some name') descendant_relationships = Relationship.objects.filter(parent = person) An I want to show this person's descendants in a list in a template: <ul> {% for item in descendant_relationships%} <li> {{item.child.name}} - {{item.description}} </li> {% endfor %} </ul> But this template code will not show the children of children (i.e. grandchildren, great-grandchildren etc.). How can I get these lower level descendants to show up? I imagine recursion is necessary somewhere, but where?

  Hello I have a simple simulated aarray with two elements: bowl["fruit"]="apple"; bowl["nuts"]="brazilian"; I can access the value with an event like this: onclick="testButton00_('fruit')">with `testButton00_` function testButton00_(key){ var t = bowl[key]; alert("testButton00_: value = "+t); } However whenever I try to access the aarray from within code with a key that is just a non-explicit string I get undefined. Do I have somehow have to pass the parameter with the escaped 'key'. Any ideas? tia.

• Django: do I need to do HttpResponseRedirect to render a simple string after a POST?

  I've got a mobile app that makes POST requests to a Django site. I want to return a simple string (not a template-based page) after the app makes the POST request, saying 'Success' or 'Failure' as appropriate. However I know that after a POST request in Django you're supposed to do a HttpResponseRedirect. But, do I really need to redirect to another page and write a new function to handle it, all to output a string? And if so, how do I pass the success/failure status of the app in the HttpResponseRedirect, since it's only supposed to take one argument? Thanks!

• Is it possible to start an activity from a regular java class?

  In my ActionBarSherlock I have the same menu items for all activities, so it seems unwise to define onClick handlers in each activity - they all do the same. Instead I created a class called MyClickListener that implements com.actionbarsherlock.view.MenuItem.OnMenuItemClickListener, and in there I have a simple switch block that starts the appropriate activity. Problem is that Intent constructor's first argument is of type Context, and even when I pass this to MyClickListener's constructor, I can't start any activity. The same goes for every method that has a Context object as a parameter. Is there a way to work around it? What is a context object? Thanks

• Local variable not being passed to partial template by render?

  I don't seem to be able to pass a variable to my partial template in rails (2.3.5). My code is as follows; In the main view .html.erb file: <% f.fields_for :payments do |payment_form| %> <%= render 'payment', {:f => payment_form, :t => "test" } %> <% end %> and in the _payment.html.erb file: <%= t %> produces a wrong number of arguments (0 for 1) error. The payment_form object is being passed to the partial as f without any problems. I've tried a number of variations on the above syntax (e.g. :locals => {:f => payment_form, :t => "test" } without success. I presume I'm doing something pretty basic wrong but just can't see it.

• Are Sting int values guaranteed to be constant over different projects

  I have some messages being passed back from my server through php. The problem is that the messages are in English and if the user is using another language they will still get the message in English. So I had an idea that maybe instead of passing back the message I would instead pass the String resource Id from the android app, that way the app will get the correct string id for their language. I will use this in a number of apps so I just want to know if the string id is guaranteed to be the same across different android projects?

  I don't know if I'll pass all the necessary information here, but I've only been asked to post this question here and I'm not entirely onto the matter. There is a .NET Framework 2.0 application compiled in the Debug mode with the parameter jitDebugging set to true in app.config <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> After any crash we get the dialog box allowing us to send a report or to debug the program. When we choose to debug and select proper VS, the IDE starts but with the announcement: No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. The source code cannot be displayed. and Disassembly cannot be displayed in run mode. Is there any possiblity to see the code or the spot where the crash has occured?

  Hi, I am currently having an idea where I want to save an image from a c++/openGL application on demand from a browser. So basically I would like to run the application itself on the server and have a simple communication layer like this: JS - tell application to do calculations (and maybe pass a string or some simple data) application - tell JS when finished and maybe send a link, text or something as simple as that. I don't really have alot of experience with webservers and as such don't know if that is possible at all (it's just my naive thinking). And note: I am not talking about a webGL application, I just want to have simple communication between a c++ serverside application, and the user. Any ideas how to do that? Thanks alot!

But, it seems that this is not possible, as I get a syntax error it I try to do something like this Thread t1 = new Thread(new Thread Start(func1(obj1)); where obj1 is an object of type List<string> (say).   I have a membership based website and im planning on implementing a referral system. My website is credit based, the idea is that if User X refers User Y, then User X gets 100 bonus credits. Has anybody built a referral system before and if so what obstacles should I bear in mind? I've had a snoop round SO tonight but couldn't find any suitable answers. My theory is to give each user a random string which is generated and stored in the DB when they sign up, The user will then be presented with a URL incl. that string which when they pass to somebody (User Z), User Z is then sent to a page, the page then uses the GET method to gather the Random string and update the DB Row they currently occupy, does this sound feasible or could it easily be breached?   Currently I have a static class that I use as my logging module. I’ve added the class to my visual studio solution. Within the class I’ve specified the name and location of the log file to use. Which lets me do stuff like this – which I like and want. Logger.Information(“Page_Load”,”controls loaded correctly”); I’d like to refactor the code and move the logging functionality into a separately compiled assembly, if I did this I would then need to pass in the log file name and location to save the files too. However I don’t want to have to supply this information every time I call the ‘Logging’ method, this would be bad... Logger.Informtaion(“Page_Load”,”controls loaded correctly”,”logfile.txt”,”c:\temp”); Is there any way I can supply this information without having to specify it within each page or via the method call.

  I got this doubt while writing some code. Is 'bool' a basic datatype defined in the C++ standard or is it some sort of extension provided by the compiler ? I got this doubt because Win32 has 'BOOL' which is nothing but a typedef of long. Also what happens if I do something like this: int i = true; Is it "always" guaranteed that variable i will have value 1 or is it again depends on the compiler I am using ? Further for some Win32 APIs which accept BOOL as the parameter what happens if I pass bool variable?

  1- In Windows CE, I have a Bitmap object in C#. 2- I have a C function in an extern dll that expects as parameters the pointer to a bytes array that represents an image in RGB565 format, width and height. This function will draw on this array of bytes. So I need to pass the byte array pointer of the Bitmap object, but I can find a practical way to get this pointer. One way is convert this Bitmap into a bytes array using a memory stream or something else, but it will create a new bytes array, so I will keep in memory both object, the Bitmap and the bytes array, but I don’t want it because the few available memory, that’s why I need to access to the bytes array of the bitmap object, not create a new bytes array. Anyone can help me?

• Update database using restful ASP.NET MVC 1.0

  We are building an MVC 1.0 application right now and using Linq - SQL for our DAL. Following the restful approach we have multiple action events depending on if you are updating or loading or what not. The two that I'm concerned with at this point are the edit and update action methods. Here is the signatures. public ActionResult Update(int customerId, int Id, AggregateModel viewModel) public ActionResult Edit(int customerId, int Id, AggregateModel viewModel) So the idea is that in the Edit method we load up our viewModel and pass it to the view. The user makes changes to the model and then posts back to the Update method. The first thing I could think of to do would be to get the viewModel from the database again, copy the changes in one by one from the posted back model and then submit it back. This would work but does seem clunky to me. What is the best way to insert those changes into the database at this point?

  is it possible to get HtmlTextWriter of a control? if no, then how can i call the RenderEndTag of a control in code behind? i am facing a problem in my application. i extended the listbox user control and override its RenderEndTag event. if i used the new listbox (Mylistbox) normally inside a WebPage, everything works fine. but when i put Mylistbox in a Webusercontrol and include the Webusercontrol in a WebPage, the RenderEndTag of the control is not called for some reason. so i guessed that i should explicitly call 'RenderEndTag' of the control. to do so i need to pass an HtmlTextWriter...

• ColdFusion Timeout Error

  I have a scheduled task that runs once a day that builds an XML file that I pass off to another group. Recently the amount of data has greatly increased and is now causing the task to time out (I think). I have tried to optimize my script as much as possible but with no luck. It times out long before an hour and I don't get any kind of ColdFusion error. Instead I get a "This page cannot be found" after it runs. Could this be a timeout someplace other than Coldfusion?
