Is it possible to use Windows remote desktop connection to connect to a Windows XP machine with a user already logged in and just view that users screen without logging them off?
I'd like to ask how is it possible to add quotes in VB.
I'm trying to run command which contains quotes..
example:
Shell("cmd.exe")
SendKeys.Send("cd "c:\users\abc def" ") <<<<--- this line
SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}")
there is an syntax error.
the problem is that I need to add quotes to some commands as there is a space in folderpath.
As a beginner in VB I'm not really sure how to describe the poblem correctly so I hope you can see the it in my example :/
Thank you all in advance
Since people are getting unauthorized access to my Windows Server (bruteforced over several months..), I'd like to set up a whitelist for RDP access.
I have tried the following with Windows Firewall inbound rules:
This still allows other users to connect through RDP. Is there any way to block such unauthorized access through a whitelist?
EDIT: The firewall is enabled, and it's the only firewall running on the machine. Rules like allowing port 80 traffic behave correctly.
Always when I read about SSD usage under Linux, the advice is to disable journalling in Ext4 (or use Ext2), since it's too bad for your SSD. But in all articles about SSD tweaks for Windows, I never see any mentions that you should disable NTFS journalling, or that you should stick to FAT32.
I know Ext4's journaling is more advanced, but is it so much more damaging to a SSD than that of NTFS? Or are Linux users just a little bit more cautious?
In my Small Business Server 2003 environment, I would like to be able to have users manage their own delegate permissions for their Exchange mailboxes. By default, the Outlook delegate feature will not work unless I go to the user object in Active Directory and grant Allow on "Write Personal Information" to SELF. This will work temporarily, but something seems to reset this value shortly afterword. What would cause this automatic reset?
Anyone able to successfully run a Java Applet with the 1.6 Applet Plugin in Firefox?
I'm using an applet loaded in tomcat that other non-Mac users can access and run using their java applet plugin, but mine causes Firefox to hang and then crash.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
In order to Authenticate WiFi clients, I have FreeRadius server that works with Active Directory. My question is that, Now all users in Active Directory can connect to WLAN. How can I control them with FreeRradius server. I mean now all people can connect to network and I can not control them. Honestly I don't know how can I control them. FreeRadius was installed on CentOS 6.5 and I don't have mysql.
Thanks,
Recently Gmail introduced an HTML5-based desktop notification feature for Google Chrome users (see this). It's very useful, however, the notifications disappear too quickly (in about 5 seconds) and I couldn't find a way to change the display time. Ideally, I would like the notification to stay for a few minutes if there is no user activity (or about 15 seconds if there is user activity). Is that possible?
I have been Google'ing my fingers off and simply can not find a working example of how to merge/proxy a OpenLDAP server and windows AD server. Have anyone worked with this before?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The idea is simple:
openldap.mydomain.local ---- Linux LDAP Server
winad.mydomain.local ---- Windows AD Server
Some users are one Linux and some on WinAD. OpenLDAP should search both on login.
A working example would be appreciated.
I have installed windows 7 and linux opensuse in my laptop. In linux the windows is mounted under /windows/A OR B OR C OR D
When ever i write or do a touch in any of this location it says permission denied
The permission for /windows on running ls -l on root partition is as follows :
drwxr-xr-x 1 root users 32768 Nov 12 11:00 Windows
what should i do to get the permissions for writing or deleting a file?
So, I have a couple of batch files that install some executables and they work, but when the executables setup shortcuts on the desktop only SYSTEM has access to them. Is there a way I can prevent that or make it so it adds Domain Users access or something like that. I realize that the batch files are ran under the SYSTEM context, but I'd like to find a way to clean up after them.
Thanks in advance!
This question already has an answer here:
What permissions should my website files/folders have on a Linux webserver?

I have a dedicated server for my website. There are no other users, and no other websites on the same machine.
Is there any risk in setting 777-permissions on my site's public_html folder, bearing in mind configuration files with passwords and access keys are stored outside that root?
Environment - MS Server 2003 AD Domain, XP computers at Branch office connected by VPN back to main office. T
IP Traffic to the internet and internally is relatively stable, but the in-house application has been buggy, and dropping connections. Users report "slowness"
DNS Name resolution might be the culprit or a symptom, I cannot ping workstations at the main office by name, but can ping their IP Address...
Any ideas?

When using Windows 7N and embedded videos for YouTube and the like my users have been getting a black box. I tracked this down to when HTML5 is being used for rendering. Other than putting a bunch of sites in compatibility mode or installing the Windows Media Pack (which resolves this issue) is there another route I can take?
My guess is it's only a single registry key or DLL that says 'I'm not HTML5 compatible' but I don't have any idea how to find it.
Givens:
disk is cheap, and there's plenty lying around on various computers around the corporate intranet
redundant contiguous large storage volumes are expensive
Problem:
It would be fantastic to have a single entry point (drive letter, network path) that presents all this space as one contiguous filesystem, effectively abstracting the disk and network architecture from the paths presented to users.
Does anyone know how to implement such a solution? I'm open to Windows and non-windows solutions, free and proprietary.

When I share some folders on network, I can see users connected to me and who has which file opened in Computer-Manage.
Is it somehow possible to see a notice when a new user connects to me?
Is there a piece of software that would show me a popup window?
Is there a solution for Windows 7?
I want to create a directory, for example:
/public/all
But I want it so that if you create a file in all, the owner is root, but anyone with access to the /public/all folder can delete/edit/etc the file, just not change the permissions. (I will use a self-created "setx" application to change the execute value if needed.)
Reason for this, I don't want you to be able to deny other users write/read access to files in /public/all. I heard setuid on directories doesn't work for that.
By default the VHDs go into “C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks” and the config files go into “C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V”.
Should I leave them there?
Is it ok for the VHDs to be in a “Public” folder?
Users on a linux (CentOS4) machine I administer consistently forget to empty the trash. Since the people work on big files, this can fill up the /home partition very quickly.
Therefore, I would like to create a script that automatically empties the user's trash whenever they log out.
How would I do that?
Hi,
is it possible to allow directory browsing in IIS7 only for a specific IP range? (e.g. for internal users 10.1.10/24)
As far I only see options to enable or disable it entirely.

I have to update some Mac work stations in a business environment from Snow Leopard (10.6) to Lion (10.7). I found that the way is to purchase it from App Store (for 24 EUR). Now the problem is that all my users of the workstations used their own Apple ID to sign in in App Store and thus they have their private credit card information bounded to the account and I can not require them to pay the price of the update. How can I pay for the update with a company credit card?
