• Exposing a service to external systems - How should I design the contract?

  Hi! I know this question is been asked before here but still I'm not sure what to select. My service will be called from many 3 party system in the enterprise. I'm almost sure the information the service will collect (MyBigClassWithAllInfo) will change during the products lifetime. Is it still a good idea to expose objects? • Ruby on Rails - Adding variable to params[]

  In the controller, how can I add a variable at the end of a params[]? If I try this I get an error: params[:group_] + variable How should it be done? Edit per request Ok, I have a form that sets groups of radio buttons with names like this: group_01DRN0 Obviously I have different groups in the form (group_01AAI0, group_01AUI0, etc.) and the value is set according to the radio button selected within the group: Radio button "group_01DRN0" could have value of "21" or "22" or "23", radio button "group_01AAI0" could have value of "21" or "22" or "23", etc. In the DB I have every code (01DRN0, 01AAI0, 01AUI0, etc) so I want to select them from DB and iterate in the params value so I can get the radio button group value, I've tried this with no luck: @codes=Code.get_codes for c in @codes @all=params[:group_] + c.name end Thanks.

• Blackberry Asynchronous HTTP Requests - How?

  The app I'm working on has a self contained database. The only time I need HTTP request is when the user first loads the app. I do this by calling a class that verifies whether or not a local DB exists and, if not, create one with the following request: HttpRequest data = new HttpRequest("http://www.somedomain.com/xml", "GET", this); data.start(); This xml returns a list of content, all of which have images that I want to fetch AFTER the original request is complete and stored. So something like this won't work: HttpRequest data = new HttpRequest("http://www.somedomain.com/xml", "GET", this); data.start(); HttpRequest images = new HttpRequest("http://www.somedomain.com/xmlImages", "GET", this); images.start(); Since it will not treat this like an asynchronous request. I have not found much information on adding callbacks to httpRequest, or any other method I could use to ensure operation 2 does not execute until operation 1 is complete. • jquery load php file - result is not complete

  I'm trying to load or better reload a DIV with content from an included php file. so the file is included in the webadmin.php from the location webadmin/pages.php. Then i alter some data in the DB through serializing. Now I would like to reload the pages.php from the callback of the serialize POST with load();. This all works fine up until the moment the data is supposed to be displayed in the div - i believe its because the php file is loaded from a different location, so the include paths for the DB Connection etc are probably wrong... Should I really write an extra PHP File for jquery or is there a way to tell jquery where to load it from? Its the first time I'm doing this - so bear with me for a moment on this one... Thanks! • Creating a RESTful service in CakePHP

  I'm attempting to create a RESTful service in CakePHP but I've hit a bit of a brick wall. I've enabled the default RESTful routing using Router::mapResources('users') and Router::parseExtensions(). This works well if I make a GET request, and returns some nicely formatted XML. So far so good. The problem is if I want to make a POST or PUT request. CakePHP doesn't seem to be able to read the data from the request. At the moment my add(), edit() and delete() actions don't contain any logic, they're simply setting $this-data to the view. I'm testing with the following cURL command: curl -v -d "<user><username>blahblah</username><password>blahblah</password>" http://localhost/users.xml --header 'content-type: text/xml' Which only returns a 404 header. If I remove the --header parameter then it returns the view but no data is set. It feels like I'm missing something obvious here. Any ideas?

  I'm querying an underlying PostgreSQL database using Pandas 0.8. Pandas is returning the DataFrame properly but the underlying timestamp column in my database is being returned as a generic "object" type in Pandas. As I would eventually like to seasonal normalization of my data I am curious as to how to convert this generic "object" column to something that is appropriate for analysis.   Hi, We have nested folders with parent-child relationship. We use MySQL MyISAM DB. The data is stored in the DB in the following manner. Every time a child folder is created in the nested structure, the previous parentID is added. I want to get the RootFolderID of a folder which is added in the hierarchy as tabulated below. FoldID ParentID |RootFolderID -----------------|------------------- 1 0 | 0 2 1 | 1 3 2 | 1 4 3 | 1 5 4 | 1 Please let me know how to get the root folderID and populate it in the RootFolderID column after a folder is created each time.   I've seen other questions about this exception, but all of them seem to be resolved with the solution that a row with the primary key specified already exists. This doesn't seem to be the case for me. I have tried replacing all single quotes in my strings with double quotes, but the same problem occurs. • How to send reminder notifications to subscribers for renewal from SQL Server 2005?

  I have a table in SQL DB, namely dbo.subscribers, it contains following columns: -SubscriberID -JoinDateTime The business logic says a subscription last for 2 weeks and a reminder should be sent after 7 days from the JoinDateTime. The way that the system was designed to send reminders are via a URL call, e.g. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/renew_userid=SubscriberID/ and that can only be called from our webserver which is the only whitelisted IP machines given. Currently there is a windows service written to query the DB once a day at midnight to grab all expiring subscribers and send them reminders, however this batch approach only sends reminders to the nearest date, well, I could have set the interval down from 1 day to 1 hour such that the service can send notifications out closer to the exact JoinDateTime + 7 days requirements. I have heard a stored procedure can be written and perform task like this to a nearly real-time manner, if yes, please give me some hints on how to do it. Another question is - is SSRS bit of an overkill to perform things like this? Please advice. TIA

Then I would like to use the values of the selected values of the dropdownlist to call another PHP page in which I will generate a db query.   i need help with batch file for WINRAR pleasee hi i am trying to use winrar to convert all my different folders individually from one location to another. example: c:\projects\test c:\projects\country c:\projects\db to c:\backup\test.rar c:\backup\country.rar c:\backup\db.rar I am trying the following cmd, which works but what it does is that it gets all the folders in the projects folder into the backup for /f "delims==" %%D in ('DIR C:\projects /A /B /S') do ( "C:\Program Files\WinRAR\WinRAR.EXE" m -r "c:\backup\projects.rar" "%%D" ) but this is what it does c:\backup\project.rar (it does contain all the files if i extract) i want them separetely can you please help?

• Silverlight ClientAccessPolicy issue...I think

  Fisrt of all I have my ClientAccessPolicy.xml file in the root of my website. If I access my website using the public domain name like this: h t t p://www.mydomain.com and then go to the page where my SL control is, I get the spinning % numbers up until about 98%, then it quits and my SL control does not appear on the page. If I access my website using the machine name (website is at datacenter, we have vpn setup) like this: h t t p://machinename and then go to the page where my SL control is everything works fine. this must be a ClientAccess Policy issue don't your think? Or what DO you thnik the issue is? Thanks in advance.   Hello all, Both the MySQLi and MySQLi_STMT classes have an $insert_id property. If I am connected to my database using a MySQLi object (say $db), and then I perform an INSERT with a MySQLi_STMT object (say $stmt), to get the id of the last INSERT, should I use: $last_id = $db->insert_id; or $last_id = $stmt->insert_id; Or would they be the same, in which case it doesn't matter? I thought this might be a quick answer for someone, and save me the time of writing the test code to check it. Thanks in advance as always.

  I have an application that downloads an xml file, parses the file, and creates core data objects while doing so. In the parse code I have a function called 'emptydatacontext' that removes all items from Core Data before creating replacements from the xml file. I created a 'update' button that starts the exact same process of retrieving the file the preceeding as it did the first time. All is well until its time to delete the core data objects again. This 'deleteObject' call creates a "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" error each time. This only happens on the second time through. See this image for the debugger window as it appears when walking through the deletion FOR loop on the second iteration. Conditions is the fetched array of 7 objects with the objects below. Condition should be an individual condition. link text As you can see 'condition' does not match any of the objects in the 'conditions' array. I'm sure this is why I'm getting the memory access errors. Just not sure why this fetch (or the FOR) is returning a wrong reference. All the code that successfully performes this function on the first iteration is used in the second but with very different results. Thanks in advance for the help!

Filenames / paths are intact. If I add die() to the bottom of my layout.phtml, I get the page. Something is resetting the headers and sending a blank page. • Live search results as you type... am I going about this the right way? jQuery + PHP

  This is my first time building a tool like this, so please bare with me. I'm doing this to learn more about jQuery and AJAX. Basically, I have a search input and a hidden div. When you start typing in the search input, the hidden div becomes visible and results are brought in. In this case, I'm searching for client names. It all works fine, however I think my code could be better but I'm not sure exactly where to begin. Each keyup requests a PHP script which accesses a table in a database to find a like string. But in my PHP script, I'm echo'ing some JS/jQuery which I'm not sure is good practice. Below is my code. Am I going about this the right way or am I totally off base? Any suggestions for improvement? • Exceptions in ASP.MVC

  Hello guys, I'm here again with another question about MVC. Here is the deal. I have a simple table/class with an Id and a Name. Names suppossed to be unique, and are modeled like that in the DB. I created my controller and everything just works fine. But if I try to insert a name that already exists, an exception should be thrown. I'm just not finding what is the correct kind of exception and it's namespace. The error must be coming from the DB, so... Any ideas? Thanks

• I just need one dependent module , but don't need its dependencies (Maven)

  In my project , there is a spring XML config that utilizes ehcache to cache method returns. xml snippet : http://www.springmodules.org/schema/ehcache http://www.springmodules.org/schema/cache/springmodules-ehcache.xsd <ehcache:config configLocation="classpath:ehcache.xml"/> <ehcache:proxy id="explainRetriever" refId="explainRetrieverImpl"> <ehcache:caching methodName="get*" cacheName="explainCache"/> </ehcache:proxy> but in runtime , server complains it cannot find definitions of http://www.springmodules.org/schema/ehcache , I know I have to add "spring-modules-cache.jar" to WEB-INF/lib directory. But my project is maintained by maven , if I add "spring-modules-cache" to the runtime dependency , it will bring a lot of dependencies to my WAR file , filling my WAR with a lot of unnecessary jars. I just need one declaration in it , not all of its dependencies ... Is there any way to tell maven not to include its dependencies to the project ? Or ... another way , when packaging WAR , just copy another prepared spring-modules-cache.jar to WEB-INF/lib , how to do this ? Thanks !

• Hierarchical Hibernate, how many queries are executed?

  So I've been dealing with a home brew DB framework that has some seriously flaws, the justification for use being that not using an ORM will save on the number of queries executed. If I'm selecting all possibile records from the top level of a joinable object hierarchy, how many separate calls to the DB will be made when using an ORM (such as Hibernate)? I feel like calling bullshit on this, as joinable entities should be brought down in one query , right? Am I missing something here? note: lazy initialization doesn't matter in this scenario as all records will be used.

• Can't append to array using string field name [$] when performing update on array fields
