Django aggregation query on related one-to-many objects

Here is my simplified model: class Item(models.Model): pass class TrackingPoint(models.Model): item = models.ForeignKey(Item) created = models.DateField() data = models.IntegerField() In many parts of my application I need to retrieve a set of Item's and annotate each item with data field from latest TrackingPoint from each item ordered by created field. For example, instance i1 of class Item has 3 TrackingPoint's: tp1 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,15), data=23) tp2 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,14), data=21) tp3 = TrackingPoint(item=i1, created=date(2010,5,12), data=120) I need a query to retrieve i1 instance annotated with tp1.data field value as tp1 is the latest tracking point ordered by created field. That query should also return Item's that don't have any TrackingPoint's at all. If possible I prefer not to use QuerySet's extra method to do this. That's what I tried so far... and failed :( Item.objects.annotate(max_created=Max('trackingpoint__created'), data=Avg('trackingpoint__data')).filter(trackingpoint__created=F('max_created')) Any ideas?

Struts and logging HTTP POST request body

I'm trying to log the raw body of HTTP POST requests in our application based on Struts, running on Tomcat 6. I've found one previous post on SO that was somewhat helpful, but the accepted solution doesn't work properly in my case. The problem is, I want to log the POST body only in certain cases, and let Struts parse the parameters from the body after logging. Currently, in the Filter I wrote I can read and log the body from the HttpServletRequestWrapper object, but after that Struts can't find any parameters to parse, so the DispatchAction call (which depends on one of the parameters from the request) fails. I did some digging through Struts and Tomcat source code, and found that it doesn't matter if I store the POST body into a byte array, and expose a Stream and a Reader based on that array; when the parameters need to get parsed, Tomcat's Request object accesses its internal InputStream, which has already been read by that time. Does anyone have an idea how to implement this kind of logging correctly?

hi all, i have this situation: i have to build a menu with datasource from the db, because i have to filter them among the user that is loged in. i have tried building a menu using repeater, and all this works fine till i realized that i wanted the menu with more than two levels. i have also tried with treeview, but i really don't want this solution (problem with the style and the treeview doesn't have a pretty view). Could anyone give me just the idea ? thnx in advance.

Authentication on odata service

I want to add some authentication to my odata service. Depending on the user calling i want to: filter rows and/or remove columns. I read in scott hanselmans fine blogpost on odata ( http://www.hanselman.com/blog/CreatingAnODataAPIForStackOverflowIncludingXMLAndJSONIn30Minutes.aspx )that it is possible to intercept the incoming queries. If this works i could add some extra filtering. How would this intercepting and altering queries work exactly? I can not find any examples of where and how to do this. (i'm using entitie framework and wcf dataservices (just like scotts example blog)

Filtering in E4X

This is just a simple question. I'm currently using Mozilla's Rhino to develop a little webapp. As one step, I need to get a webpage and filter all of it's nodes. For doing that, I use E4X. I thought I could do this like that: var pnodes = doc..*(p); But that produces an error. How is it done right? (BTW: this is just a step for increasing performance. The code already does well, it's just a bit slow.)

Adjusting sql statement in a function based upon input

Hey there, This is a bit urgent! I'm trying to make a simple filter search where-by you can choose from a series of 3 drop downs and then based upon this the results are then displayed, How would I go about adjusting the sql query for each and if you were to only choose to search from aone of the 3 rather than all 3 etc... example there could be the url with input such as: url.com?location=gb&color=3&hair=4 and still form the correct sql query for something like this: url.com?location=gb&hair=1 and not encounter problems with WHERE and AND etc etc and empty variables in the statement Would this not need to be a massive function to check using if to see how the data is set for all possibilities? How do the httppost, httpput etc attributes in ASP.NET MVC 2 work?

In ASP.NET MVC 2, a couple of new action filter attributes were introduced, as "shorthand" for attributes in ASP.NET MVC 1; for example, applying the HttpPostAttribute does the same thing as applying [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] to an action method. In addition, with the more verbose syntax, it is possible to combine different methods, in order to allow for example both Post and Delete. Now I'm wondering: how do the new attributes work? If I apply both [HttpPost] and [HttpDelete], will ASP.NET MVC 2 allow both or require both (thus allowing nothing)?

Django queries: Count number of objects with FK to model instance

This should be easy but for some reason I'm having trouble finding it. I have the following: App(models.Model): ... Release(models.Model): date = models.DateTimeField() App = models.ForeignKey(App) ... How can I query for all App objects that have at least one Release? I started typing: App.objects.all().annotate(release_count=Count('??????')).filter(release_count__gt=0) Which won't work because Count doesn't span relationships, at least as far as I can tell. BONUS: Ultimately, I'd also like to be able to sort Apps by latest release date. I'm thinking of caching the latest release date in the app to make this a little easier (and cheaper), and updating it in the Release model's save method, unless of course there is a better way. Edit: I'm using Django 1.1 - not averse to migrating to dev in anticipation of 1.2 if there is a compelling reason though.

App engine datastore - query on Enum fields.

I am using GAE(Java) with JDO for persistence. I have an entity with a Enum field which is marked as @Persistent and gets saved correctly into the datastore (As observed from the Datastore viewer in Development Console). But when I query these entities putting a filter based on the Enum value, it is always returning me all the entities whatever value I specify for the enum field. I know GAE java supports enums being persisted just like basic datatypes. But does it also allow retrieving/querying based on them? Google search could not point me to any such example code. Details: I have printed the Query just before being executed. So in two cases the query looks like - SELECT FROM com.xxx.yyy.User WHERE role == super ORDER BY key desc RANGE 0,50 SELECT FROM com.xxx.yyy.User WHERE role == admin ORDER BY key desc RANGE 0,50 Both above queries return me all the User entities from datastore in spite of datastore viewer showing some Users are of type 'admin' and some are of type 'super'.

Normalize FFT magnitude to imitate WMP

So, I've been working on a little visualizer for sound files, just for fun. I basically wanted to imitate the "Scope" and "Ocean Mist" visualizers in Windows Media Player. Scope was easy enough, but I'm having problems with Ocean Mist. I'm pretty sure that it is some kind of frequency spectrum, but when I do an FFT on my waveform data, I'm not getting the data that corresponds to what Ocean Mist displays. The spectrum actually looks correct, so I knew there was nothing wrong with the FFT. I'm assuming that the visualizer runs the spectrum through some kind of filter, but I have no idea what it might be. Any ideas?

Multiple aggregate functions in one SQL query from the same table using different conditions

I'm working on creating a SQL query that will pull records from a table based on the value of two aggregate functions. These aggregate functions are pulling data from the same table, but with different filter conditions. The problem that I run into is that the results of the SUMs are much larger than if I only include one SUM function. I know that I can create this query using temp tables, but I'm just wondering if there is an elegant solution that requires only a single query. I've created a simplified version to demonstrate the issue. Eclipse warning: "<methodName> has non-API return type <parameterizedType>"

My co-worker and I have come across this warning message a couple times recently. For the below code: package com.mycompany.product.data; import com.mycompany.product.dao.GenericDAO; public abstract class EntityBean { public abstract GenericDAO<Object, Long> getDAO(); // ^^^^^^ <-- WARNING OCCURS HERE } the warning appears in the listed spot as EntityBean.getDAO() has non-API return type GenericDAO<T, ID> A Google search for "has non-API return type" only shows instances where this message appears in problem lists. I.e., there's no public explanation for it. What does this mean? We can create a usage problem filter in Eclipse to make the message go away, but we don't want to do this if our usage is a legitimate problem. Thanks!

Rails choking on the content of this request because of protect_from_forgery

I'm trying to simply test my RESTful API with cURL. Using the following invocation: curl -d "name=jimmy" -H "Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded" http://127.0.0.1:3000/people.xml -i Rails is dying though: ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken (ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken): :8:in `synchronize' Looks like it's running this through a protect_from_forgery filter. I thought protect_from_forgery is excluded for non-HTML HTTP POST/PUT/DELETE type requests? This is clearly targeting the XML format. If I pass actual XML content, it works. But my users will be submitting POST data as URL encoded parameters. I know all the various ways I can disable protect_from_forgery but what's the proper way of handling this? I want to leave it on so that when I do have HTML based forms and handle format.html, I don't forget to re-enable it for then. I want users to be able to make HTTP POST requests to my XML-based API though and not get bombarded with this.

Couldn't get connection factory client - fighting with Google Maps

another day another problem, I finally managed to set up correctly google maps on my android application, or at least I thought I've done it, the whole progam starts, it even call the class which should "print" a map, but the only thing I can see is a grid with google label on it [ in the corner ]. I've checked the dalvik monitor and the error E/MapActivity(394): Couldn't get connection factory client occurs. I've find out on stackoverflow website that I should sent a gps signal or sth like this from dalvik monitor, and I've done it. OpenFileDialog.AutoUpgradeEnabled doesn't work under Vista or 7?

If I specify OpenFileDialog.AutoUpgradeEnabled = true, my program still shows the old XP-style dialog. Any idea why this would happen? Stripe suppression algorithm needed

I have images with text. There are dark stripes in image that still exists in binary image too. That makes characters connected with that stripe - it can be vertical or horizontal (or at some angle) I need to remove them from image at first, and then to binarize. I've seen bandpass filter in ImageJ program that have some options like - suppress horizontal stripes, and it works good, but it also apply a bandpass filtering. So any idea please how to do it. I think it should be done in frequency domain.

(Oracle Performance) Will a query based on a view limit the view using the where clause?

In Oracle (10g), when I use a View (not Materialized View), does Oracle take into account the where clause when it executes the view? Let's say I have: MY_VIEW = SELECT * FROM PERSON P, ORDERS O WHERE P.P_ID = O.P_ID And I then execute the following: SELECT * FROM MY_VIEW WHERE MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234' When this executes, does oracle first execute the query for the view and THEN filter it based on my where clause (where MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234') or does it do this filtering as part of the execution of the view? If it does not do the latter, and P_ID had an index, would I also lose out on the indexing capability since Oracle would be executing my query against the view which doesn't have the index rather than the base table which has the index?

Django/MySQL - __istartswith not producing case-insensitive query.

I make use of generic views and I am attempting to query my MySQL db (utf8_bin collation) in a case insensitive manor to try to find all my song titles that start with a particular letter. view.py def tracks_by_title(request, starts_with): return object_list( request, queryset = Track.objects.filter(title__istartswith=starts_with), template_name = 'tlkmusic_base/titles_list.html', template_object_name = 'tracks', paginate_by = 25, ) and my urls.py urlpatterns = patterns('tlkmusic.apps.tlkmusic_base.views', (r'^titles/(?P<starts_with>\w)/$', tracks_by_title), ) the query it produces according to the django debug toolbar is: SELECT `tracks`.`id`, `tracks`.`url`, `tracks`.`artist`, `tracks`.`album`, `tracks`.`genre`, `tracks`.`year`, `tracks`.`title`, `tracks`.`comment`, `tracks`.`tracknumber`, `tracks`.`discnumber`, `tracks`.`bitrate`, `tracks`.`length`, `tracks`.`samplerate`, `tracks`.`filesize`, `tracks`.`createdate`, `tracks`.`modifydate` FROM `tracks` WHERE `tracks`.`title` LIKE a% LIMIT 1 specifically this line: WHERE `tracks`.`title` LIKE a% LIMIT 1 Why is it not ILIKE which is what I was expecting by using __istartswith? I am using Django 1.1.1 on Ubuntu.

Accessing Linq Values in ViewData

I'm having trouble accessing the id, area and theme values in my ViewData. They are being set in my action filter but when I get to the Site.Master I don't have access to them. Any help or advice would be great.
