    I'm trying to achieve the seemingly impossible task of adding an mask to a input field.     I have a news feed where items in the feed are created from JSON returned from a server. When the user takes an action on an item, I want to remove it from the object via javascript. The feed looks like this: {"newsFeed":[{"feedId":"1", "title":"item1 title", "desc":"description of the item"}, {"feedId":"2", "title":"item2 title", "desc":"description of the item"}]} I'm trying to remove a JSON attribute or entry where the feedId is passed in via a variable using jQuery.     Hi, I am trying to modify the Ubuntu One File syncing python scripts to not including things like .iso's. I have got as far as finding this file: /usr/share/pyshared/ubuntuone/u1sync/constants.py Inside is this piece of code: import re # the name of the directory u1sync uses to keep metadata about a mirror METADATA_DIR_NAME = u".ubuntuone-sync" # filenames to ignore SPECIAL_FILE_RE = re.compile(".*\\.(" "(u1)?partial|part|" "(u1)?conflict(\\.[0-9]+)?)$") How can I edit this last section (regex?) and make it ignore .iso files???     I'm trying to run the following code, written on my local machine: http://www.jsfiddle.net/WShdx/3/ Functionality-wise (ignore the broken images in the previous and next buttons, and the wrongly-sized main images) the click/hover function is working properly in jsfiddle. However, on my local machine it's not working at all. For all intents and purposes the code is identical, except the local copy has this head section to load in the javascript/css files that are contained within the jsfiddle page: <head> <title>Jquery Wizard</title> <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="wizard.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> </head> Is there some wonderful function of jsFiddle that is making my code magically work, or am I missing something here?

    good day everyone, hope yer all doin awesome am very new to javascript and jquery, and i (think) i have come up with a simple fade-in/out implementation on a site am workin on (check out http://www.s5ent.com/expandjs.html - if you have the time to check it for inefficiency or what that'd be real sweet). i use the following functions/methods/collections and i would like to do a feature test before using them. uhm.. how? or is there a better way to go about this? jQuery $ .fadeIn([duration]) .fadeOut([duration]) .attr(attributeName,value) .append(content) .each(function(index,Element)) .css(propertyName,value) .hover(handlerIn(eventObject),handlerOut(eventObject)) .stop([clearQueue],[jumpToEnd]) .parent() .eq(index) JavaScript setInterval(expression,timeout) clearInterval(timeoutId) setTimeout(expression,timeout) clearTimeout(timeoutId) i tried looking into jquery.support for the jquery ones, but i find myself running into conceptual problems with it, i.e. for fadein/fadeout, i (think i) should test for $.support.opacity, but that would be false in ie whereas ie6+ could still fairly render the fades. also am using jquery 1.2.6 coz that's enough for what i need. the support object is in 1.3. so i'm hoping to avoid dragging-in more unnecessary code if i can. i also worked with browser sniffing, no matter how frowned-upon. but that's also a bigger problem for me because of non-standard ua strings and spoofing and everything else am not aware of. so how do you guys think i should go about this? or should i even? is there a better way to go about making sure that i don't run code that'll eventually break the page? i've set it up to degrade into a css hover when javascript ain't there.. expertise needed. much appreciated, thanks guyz!

    I'm working on a version of this bubble chart http://vallandingham.me/vis/gates/. As I'm using a different set of data - instead of the "All Grants" and "Grants by Year" buttons - I have one for 5 consecutive years - 2010, 2009 etc. My opening graph depicts the data for 2010 which is achieved by filtering the data from the .csv file , which contains the data for all 5 years. The problem I'm having is filtering and re-rendering the graph if another year is then chosen. I'd really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions how I could simply achieve this? Thanks, Majella

    Hi All, Been scratching my head for too long on this: Using jquery.form, (http://malsup.com/jquery/form) with PHP ... my $_FILES['someimage'] gets set but the error number is always UPLOAD_ERR_NO_FILE, size is also 0. The JavaScript: $('form input[type=file]').change(function(){ $(this).clone().appendTo('#imgform'); $('#imgform').ajaxForm(); $('#imgform').ajaxSubmit( { type:'POST' } ); }); Which appends to: <form id="imgform" method="POST" action="/api/images.php" enctype="multipart/form-data"></form> From another form which has bog-standard file inputs. PHP logs are clean, but var_dumping $_FILES always shows that the index is set to the name of the form element ... but no data. Thanks guys! (Sorry, I know jQuery-like questions are too frequent round these parts).

    I'm doing some in browser editing, and I have some content that's on the order of around 20k characters long in a <pre>. So it looks something like: <pre> Text 1 Text 2 Text 3 Text 4 [...] Text 20,000 </pre> I'd like to use jquery to trim it down when someone hits a button to chop, but I'm having trouble doing it without overloading the browser. Assume I know that the character numbers are at 16,510 - 17,888, and what I'd like to do is trim it. I was using: jQuery('#textsection').html(jQuery('textarea').html().substr(range.start)); But browsers seem to enjoy crashing when I do this. Alternatives?

    I need some scripts inside an existing site's scripts.js. This site has been online for ages, and I can not touch the scripts file. I am including it standardly in another page. There are numerous jQuery calls in the scripts file. The place I include it does not have jQuery. I want to void all $() type things. I tried this... $ = function() { }; before I included scripts.js and it didn't seem to work. I am still getting errors like $(document) is undefined Is there a way to void all these jQuery calls?   • Basic Profanity Filter in Objective C for iPhone

    How have you like minded individuals tackled the basic challenge of filtering profanity, obviously one can't possibly tackle every scenario but it would be nice to have one at the most basic level as a first line of defense. In Obj-c I've got NSString *tokens = [text componentsSeparatedByString:@" "]; And then I loop through each token to see if any of the keywords (I've got about 400 in a list) are found within each token. Realising False positives are also a problem, if the word is a perfect match, its flagged as profanity otherwise if more than 3 words with profanity are found without being perfect matches it is also flagged as profanity. Later on I will use a webservice that tackles the problem more precisely, but I really just need something basic. So if you wrote the word penis it would go yup naughty naughty, bad word written.

  • SQL Server search filter and order by performance issues

    We have a table value function that returns a list of people you may access, and we have a relation between a search and a person called search result. What we want to do is that wan't to select all people from the search and present them. The query looks like this SELECT qm.PersonID, p.FullName FROM QueryMembership qm INNER JOIN dbo.GetPersonAccess(1) ON GetPersonAccess.PersonID = qm.PersonID INNER JOIN Person p ON p.PersonID = qm.PersonID WHERE qm.QueryID = 1234 There are only 25 rows with QueryID=1234 but there are almost 5 million rows total in the QueryMembership table. The person table has about 40K people in it. QueryID is not a PK, but it is an index. The query plan tells me 97% of the total cost is spent doing "Key Lookup" witht the seek predicate. QueryMembershipID = Scalar Operator (QueryMembership.QueryMembershipID as QM.QueryMembershipID) Why is the PK in there when it's not used in the query at all? and why is it taking so long time? The number of people total 25, with the index, this should be a table scan for all the QueryMembership rows that have QueryID=1234 and then a JOIN on the 25 people that exists in the table value function. Which btw only have to be evaluated once and completes in less than 1 second.
