• Ignoring build number when referencing dll

  I have one solution with a .NET 4.0 project (C#) that produces a delayed signed dll, that I dotfuscate and sign. EDIT: This is how I version the dll: [assembly: AssemblyVersion("0.7.0.*")] [assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("0.7.0.0")] I have another solution with a .NET 4.0 project (C++/CLI) that references the signed dll and produces a signed dll (actually, delayed signed and signed in a post build because of a flaw in the C++ build system). The problem is that the reference to the dll contains a specific version number, which includes even the build number (I want to have a build number). Every time I build the referenced dll, I have to change the project settings file (.vcxproj) so it reference the new version dll. Since I work with source control, this is very inconvenient (different computers might have different build numbers since each computer build its own referenced dll - the referenced dll is not in the source control). If I don't change the reference, I get a warning: warning MSB3245: Could not resolve this reference. Could not locate the assembly... And many errors like this: error C3083: 'Foo': the symbol to the left of a '::' must be a type These are resolved once I change the reference. How do I make the reference ignore the build number or even the entire version number?

  I am having an issue serializing a c# class to an XML file that has a base class... here is a simple example: namespace Domain { [Serializable] public class ClassA { public virtual int MyProperty { get; set; } } } namespace Derived { public class ClassA : Domain.ClassA { public override int MyProperty { get { return 1; } set { /* Do Nothing */ } } } } When I attempt to serialize an instance of Derived.ClassA, I receive the following exception: InvalidOperationException(Types 'Domain.ClassA' and 'Derived.ClassA' both use the XML type name 'ClassA', from the namespace ". Use XML attributes to specify a unique XML name and/or namespace for the type.) The problem is that I want to create a single base class that simply defines the structure of the XML file, and then allow anyone else to derive from that class to insert business rules, but that the formatting will come through from the base. Is this possible, and if so, how do I attribute the base class to allow this?

  Hello, So I want to create a JDBC connection to MySQL server that is installed on my pc, here are the steps, I installed MySQL with the username and password "root", downloaded mysql-connector-java and from theere I coped the JAR "mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin" to "C:\Sun\SDK\jdk\jre\lib\ext", I then added it as an external JAR in my project in eclipse, now in my class I have this code: public void initialiseDatabase() { try { // Load the Driver class. • PDO Database Connections Problem

  Hey Everyone, Over a year ago I created my own database classes which use PDO, and handle all preparing, executing, and closing connections. These classes have been working great up until now. There are two different database severs I am grabbing from, MySQL, and MS SQL Express. I am retrieving an employee id from the MySQL server and using it to get that employees information from the MS SQL server. There are about 11k records coming from the MySQL server and my program is only making it through 1200 before crashing with an error like the following. Connection failed (odbc:Driver=FreeTDS;Servername=MSSQLExpress;Database=SMDINC) Class (PDOException) SQLSTATE[08001] SQLDriverConnect: 0 [unixODBC][FreeTDS][SQL Server]Unable to connect to data source It seems like the program is not able to connect to the data source, but it is running the exact same query about 30 times before this and having no problem. Also, I have thoroughly checked all of the data coming into the query and it all looks fine. I believe the issue may be that there are to many connections being created, but I have tried to close all connections in many different places, and nothing seems to be fixing the problem. Any debugging help, or suggestions would be appreciated! Craig Metrolis

  I have an application that runs on both C# .Net and Java. Two entirely separate but identical code bases. The problem Im having is formatting date and numbers. For example: A user running the .Net variant is inputting a date and a format string. The 26th of April 1986 is formatted 1986-04-26. The actual date, along with the format string, is serialized to an XML file. Later another user running the Java variant opens said XML file and looks at the date. I want them to look the same. Whats the best approach here? There doesnt seem to be a one-to-one mapping between Java and .Nets format strings. Should I limit the possible formats to a selection I know I can represent fully in both .Net and Java?

  I recently started picking up VI, going through some tutorials and trying to get used to it. But I still have some questions about it. It seems to be nice for small one file changes, but as soon as I start to try doing bigger things it seems to be lacking. For example I'm used to have code formatting, import organizing, simple overview over all packages and other things that an IDE gives me. I saw some tutorials on how to use VI as an IDE, but it felt awkward at best. Now I'm just wondering, what are the typical use cases for VI? Is it typically used to edit small files, or can it be used for larger projects? And if you use it in larger projects, how do you make it work? Or would it be a lot easier to use an IDE with VI keybindings?

• Excel validation range limits

  When Excel saves a file, it attempts to combine identical Validation settings into a single rule with multiple ranges. This creates one of three issues, depending on the file type you choose to save: When saving as a standard Excel file (Office 2000 BIFF), a maximum of 1024 non-contiguous ranges that can have the same validation setting. When saving as a SpreadsheetML (Office 2002/2003 XML) file, you are limited to the number of non-contiguous ranges that can be represented, comma-delimited in R1C1 format, in 1024 characters. When saving as an Open Office XML (Office 2007 *.xlsx), there is a maximum of 511 non-contiguous ranges that can have the same validation setting. (I don't have Office 2007, I'm using the file converter for Office 2003). Once you bust any of these limits, the remaining ranges with the same Validation settings have their Validation settings wiped. For (1) and (3), Excel warns you that it can't save all of the formatting, but for (2) it does not.

  I have an html document, and I want to pull the tables out of this document and return them as arrays. I'm picturing 2 functions, one that finds all the html tables in a document, and a second one that turns html tables into 2-dimensional arrays. Something like this: htmltables = get_tables(htmldocument) for table in htmltables: array=make_array(table) There's 2 catches: 1. The number tables varies day to day 2. The tables have all kinds of weird extra formatting, like bold and blink tags, randomly thrown in. Thanks!

  I'm using the following python code to search for a node in an XML file and changing the value of an attribute of one of it's children.Changes are happening correctly when the node is displayed using toxml().But, when it is written to a file, the attributes rearrange themselves(as seen in the Source and the Final XML below). • svnsync loses revision properties although hook installed

  Hello all! I have a pretty weird problem. We have setup an SVN-Mirror via cronjob (because it needs to go from inside to outside of a firewall, so no post-commit-hook possible) and svnsync. We installed a pre-revprop-hook just as told. Everything seems to work fine, except that it doesn't. E.g. when manually executing the script. # svnsync --non-interactive sync file://<path-to-mirror> --source-username <usr> --source-password <pwd> Committed revision 19817. Copied properties for revision 19817. No error, no complaints. But if checking for the revision properties it says: # svnlook info <path-to-mirror> 0 # svn info -r HEAD file://<path-to-mirror> 2>&1 Path: <root-of-mirror> URL: file://<path-to-mirror> Repository Root: file://<path-to-mirror> Repository UUID: <uid> Revision: 19817 Node Kind: directory Last Changed Rev: 19817 So somehow the author and timestamp information gets lost. But we need that information for our internal processes. Since no error or warning is produced I have absolutely no idea even where to start to look. Everything is local (except for the remote master), so there are no server-logs to look at. I also tried to manually recopy via svnsync copy-revprops (http://chestofbooks.com/computers/revision-control/subversion-svn/svnsync-Copy-revprops-Ref-svnsync-C-Copy-revprops.html). It says Copied properties for revision 19885. But when I query them, it's just the same. Any ideas how I could approach that problem, or even better -- how to solve it? Any ideas appreciated.

  One of the main products of my company is an Oracle Forms (and Reports) based application, that "needs" to be re-written in another technology. Why? Users want a more rich interface experience, and we want, preferably, to reduce costs with an open source application server. For this (HUGE) project, we intend to use a java web application framework, keep these points in mind: We have: hundreds of tables on our database (the ORM must be as flexible as possible); some logic which is (and will still be) based on PL/SQL procedures/functions/packages; a lot of CRUDs (the application itself is of an considerable size); a demand to work with/generate documents and workflows; an intranet based user environment; We want: to offer a RIA interface experience; use (if possible) an open source app server; a rapid (as possible) development framework; a somewhat mature framework with a "wise" roadmap (and a considerable community support); a MVC approach combined with JS or GWT widgets (e.g. Vaadin or SmartGWT); Well, in the past weeks I've read a lot of posts, Q&As on stackoverflow, and much more: Wicket, JSF, Tapestry, Grails, GWT, Struts2, Play, Spring, Seam, Echo, .... the list goes on! • Ruby hpricot does not like dash in symbol, is there a workaround?

  I am trying to parse an xml file with hpricot. The xml element that I am trying to get has a dash though and hence the issue that I am facing xml <xliff xmlns="urn:oasis:names:tc:xliff:document:1.1" version="1.1"> <trans-unit> <source>"%0" can not be found. Please try again.</source> <target>"%0" can not be found. Please try again.</target> </trans-unit> </xliff> rb def read_in_xliff(xlf_file_name) stream = open(xlf_file_name) {|f| Hpricot(f)} (stream/:xliff/:'trans-unit').each do |transunit| .......... This does not work because of the dash. If I rename the tag to transunit and edit the symbol reference accordingly everything seems to be fine. I thought using the symbol between quotes should work but hpricot does not seem to like this. Can anyone think of a workaround? Thanks in advance

• Legitimate uses of the Function constructor

  As repeatedly said, it is considered bad practice to use the Function constructor (also see the ECMAScript Language Specification, 5th edition, § 15.3.2.1): new Function ([arg1[, arg2[, … argN]],] functionBody) (where all arguments are strings containing argument names and the last (or only) string contains the function body). To recapitulate, it is said to be slow, as explained by the Opera team: Each time […] the Function constructor is called on a string representing source code, the script engine must start the machinery that converts the source code to executable code. This is usually expensive for performance – easily a hundred times more expensive than a simple function call, for example. (Mark ‘Tarquin’ Wilton-Jones) Though it's not that bad, according to this post on MDC (I didn't test this myself using the current version of Firefox, though). Crockford adds that [t]he quoting conventions of the language make it very difficult to correctly express a function body as a string. In the string form, early error checking cannot be done. […] And it is wasteful of memory because each function requires its own independent implementation. Another difference is that a function defined by a Function constructor does not inherit any scope other than the global scope (which all functions inherit). (MDC) Apart from this, you have to be attentive to avoid injection of malicious code, when you create a new Function using dynamic contents. Lots of disadvantages and it is intelligible that ECMAScript 5 discourages the use of the Function constructor by throwing an exception when using it in strict mode (§ 13.1). That said, T.J. Crowder says in an answer that [t]here's almost never any need for the similar […] new Function(...), either, again except for some advanced edge cases. So, now I am wondering: what are these “advanced edge cases”? Are there legitimate uses of the Function constructor?

• Excel 2003 VSTO convert to PDF

  I have an excel workbook vsto solution that needs to generate a pdf copy of one of its sheets as output. I have a license for abcdpdf .net and tried outputting to html, then using abcpdf to convert the html to pdf, but the excel html markup tries to emulate excel with all 4 worksheets with horrible markup. It also messes up the colors (silver background across entire workbook). Any suggestions? Here is the code I'm currently using to generate the html file: FileInfo excelDoc = new FileInfo(Globals.ThisWorkbook.Path + @"\Document.html"); Globals.Sheet2.SaveAs(excelDoc.FullName, Excel.XlFileFormat.xlHtml, missing, missing, false, false, Excel.XlSaveAsAccessMode.xlNoChange, missing, missing, missing); If I hack away some of the html header tags manually, I can get abcdpf to accept it, but the formatting is a bit off and this solution seems sub optimal. • iphone: custom UITableViewCell taller than the default cell view.

  Hello, I'm creating an application that consists of a ListView with 5 rows: - 1st one containing a graph - 2nd to 5th rows containing some data with the same formatting. I have created 2 classes: GraphCustomViewCell and DataCustomViewCell. Depending upon the position of the cell I load the correct CustomCell with: NSArray *topLevelObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"GraphCustomViewCell" owner:nil options:nil]; for(id currentObject in topLevelObjects) { if([currentObject isKindOfClass:[GraphCustomViewCell class]]) { cell = (GraphCustomViewCell *)currentObject; break; } } That works fine except that the first row, the one corresponding to the graph, is bigger (in height) that the 4 other rows, and as a results it hides the 3 first other rows. Is there any option in the table view that enables the custom cell to expand the default cells ? I'd like that the 5 rows (graph + 4 data rows) to fit the entire screen (480 - tabbar's height).   Hello, I am trying to loop through an array and perform an httpwebrequest in each iteration. The code seems to work, however it pauses for a while (eg alot longer than the set timeout. Tried setting that to 100 to check and it still pauses) after every 10 or so iterations, then carries on working. • .NET Excel Interop - Why aren't my Footers displaying in my printed output file?

  I'm working with C# and Office 2007's Excel Interop API. I'm opening an Excel file, applying some formatting and then sending it to the printer. I've got a problem, though. The Footer text doesn't appear to be printing. If I check the PageSetup.RightFooter property, I can see the expected Page Number in the Footer. That Page Number doesn't appear anywhere on the printed output sheet. When I print using Excel, though, they appear. Does anyone know why my Footer text is not appearing? Here's my code. • Seeking a GUI auto-format feature for T-SQL

  Is there a freely available GUI tool that will allow interaction with Microsoft SQL Server (via T-SQL) that provides an auto-format feature? I constantly find myself writing queries in SQL Query Analyzer (Microsoft’s standard GUI tool for T-SQL) and cutting/pasting the whole thing into SQLyog (a GUI tool for MySQL), where I can press F12 and have it reformatted into an easily readable, industry standard format. I then cut/paste this back into Query Analyzer to execute. I do this all the time at work and haven’t been able to find an alternative. I realize that SQLyog is no longer free software, but what I’m looking for is a specific alternative to a MS SQL Server interface (with auto-formatting). Thanks in advance for your help.

I successfully re-created the quick "Photos" application that is shown on the PDC Video, however, now that I'm trying to create my own app - nothing actually shows up when I run it. I'm mainly just adding ScatterViews right now - and they show up fine in the designer, but as soon as I hit F5 - the shell is shown on the surface - but none of the ScatterViews show up. Here's my xaml code so far. • mediawiki markup equivalent of WMD editor?

  Anyone have a recommendation for an editor like the WMD editor, but using MediaWiki markup instead of Markdown? Our site is already using MediaWiki markup but we want a slicker editor without changing markup completely. Requirements include: live preview of formatted text underneath the markup you're typing a toolbar for common formatting (bold, italic, links, bullets, numbered-list, code, etc) keyboard shortcuts for each toolbar button (e.g. CTRL+B for bold) Undo/redo via keyboard shortcuts (CTRL+Z/CTRL+Y) or toolbar buttons works well in the usual set of popular browsers (including IE6!) open-source would be preferred
