  tar on a directory "mydir" will archive hidden files and hidden subdirectories, but tar from within "mydir" with a wildcard will not. Is this a longstanding and known inconsistency or bug or is it that hardly anybody ever looks inside a lengthy tar log long enough to notice? Edit (additional information): tar from within "mydir" with a wildcard will not "see" nor archive hidden files and hidden subdirectories in the immediate directory, with emphasis on "immediate". However, in subdirectories of "mydir" (obviously non-hidden) hidden files and hidden subdirectories will be archived.

I know how to get a log of all commits in history, but these don't include branches or dangling blobs, just HEAD's history. I want to get them all, to find a specific commit that got misplaced. I would also like to know how to do this in mercurial, as I'm considering the switch.

• iPhone OS: KVO: Why is my Observer only getting notified at applicationDidfinishLaunching

  I am basically trying to implement an achievement tracking setup in my app. I have a managedObjectModel class called StatTracker to keep track of all sorts of stats and I want my Achievement tracking class to be notified when those stats change so I can check them against a value and see if the user has earned an achievement. I've tried to impliment KVO and I think I'm pretty close to making it happen but the problem I'm running into is this: So in the appDelegate i have an Ivar for my Achievement tracker class, I attach it as an observer to a property value of my statTracker core data entity in the applicationDidFinishLaunching method. I know its making the connection because I've been able to trigger a UIAlert in my AchievementTracker instance, and I've put several log statements that should be triggered whenever the value on the StatTracker's property changes. the log statement appears only once at the application launch. I'm wondering if I'm missing something in the whole object lifecycle scheme of things, I just don't understand why the observer stops getting notified of changes after the applicationDidFinishLaunching method has run. Does it have something to do with the scope of the AchievementTracker reference or more likely the reference to my core data StatTracker is going away once that method finishes up. I guess I'm not sure the right place to place these if that is the case. Would love some help. So here is how I delete the replies. What I want to do is select a distinct username+location where only the most recent item (by timestamp) is provided.   I've coded an experimental function which makes passed objects chainable by using high order functions. It's name is "chain" for now, and here is a usage example; chain("Hello World") (print) // evaluates print function by passing "Hello World" object. (console.log,"Optional","Parameters") (returnfrom) // returns "Hello World" It looks lispy but behaves very different since it's coded in a C based language, I don't know if there is a name for this idiom and I couldn't any name more suitable than "chain".   i have a simple update query (foo column type is BOOLEAN (default false)): update tablename set foo = true where id = 234; which "id" is set to (primary) key, and if i run "explain analyze" i got: Index Cond: (id = 234) Total runtime: 0.358 ms but still, i have plenty of unexplained queries at slow log (pgfouine), which took more than 200s (?!): Times executed: 99, Av. duration (s): 70 can anyone please explain, whats the reason for that? (1.5 mio rows in table, postgresql 8.4)
