  My friend have a system to manage customers. The program per si is terrible, and my friend lost contact with the developers. The case is, now my friend lost the access to program (something that the developers say "locked to machine" so when moved to another pc, he lost the access to program and data. I get mission of to try to recover the database, migrating to another database, and create a cool program to my friend. Now I need to discover wich database was used by the developers. I know that the program was made using Visual Basic, because the MSVBVM60.DLL is required. There is some program to read the metadata in the .dat files and discover wich database was used?

• GUI freezing after datagridviews have been updated using backgroundworkers

  I have made an application which runs three backgroundworkers simultaneously. It basically updates three datagridviews, which it is doing spot on. My problem is if I press maximizebox button or anywhere in any of the datagridview the program hangs for quite a long time. I am able to use the horizontal scroll but not vertical scrolls. I have tried Backgroundworker_runworkercompleted and it fires as required after threads have updated their respective datagridviews. Is it a normal behaviour or am i doing something wrong any suggestions would be helpful. P.S: I have run the whole program using step method and their is no infinite loop in the code. • How to rebuild openssh 5.2p1 after changing configure.ac

  I needed to add AM_PATH_CHECK to configure.am I then try to run the usual sequence of autotools commands to rebuild all the makefiles and whatnot: aclocal automake -ac autoheader autoreconf ./configure make and here my lack of understanding of autotools showes up because this release of openssh has no Makefile.am??? now what do I do? if i try to ignore this and build anyway configure dies with this lovely error: checking whether OpenSSL's PRNG is internally seeded... yes ./configure: line 18275: syntax error near unexpected token `PROG_LS,' ./configure: line 18275: `OSSH_PATH_ENTROPY_PROG(PROG_LS, ls)' caused by this line in configure.ac: OSSH_PATH_ENTROPY_PROG(PROG_LS, ls) Is this actually caused by my changes to configure.ac? what can I do to regenerate the required files to allow configure to work? if i take my changes out and dont run aclocal then it works???

• Modbus driver: C vs Java

  Hi stackoverflow, I am soon going to start a project where I'm required to program a Modbus driver. My initial approach was to want to do it in Java, however my boss has had contact with a company that has experience in Modbus, and they said C is the better language to approach Modbus. So my boss pretty much demanded it to be in C. My C knowledge is not really big, so it would require me to learn enough to get the Modbus driver working in proper and stable order. So, my question to you stackoverflow people with some experience in Modbus: how important could the choice of C vs Java be? The modbus site seems to have Java libraries, if C was so superior to Java in every way, why would they have those libraries? Would it be useful to learn C properly for the advantages that might give?

I would prefer redirecting the user to another page. • Problem making ant compile my classes present in different Eclipse projects into single destination

  I have close to about 20 projects in my Eclipse workspace. They are interdependent. Now I want to build all of them in a single war file. The thing is eclipse does it nicely... if I create a Dynamic Web Project and link sources of all the 20 projects. But I want to automate the entire process and want to be able to run a script (ant maybe..) and deploy a war in my app server. My approach: I started with a simple approach. I tried to sequentially build each project (javac task) with destination directory as web-inf of my war. But it is giving me weird errors like : package " ** " not found,when it shows the same all the required classes in classpath (I used verbose) Do you think, a continous integration engine will be better for my case (20 projects..) I saw Team City, but didnt get it the first time...

• Using Bundler along with preinstalled gems

  So I've got thin installed the old fashioned way: gem install thin I put an app on the server and installed all of its required gems via bundler: bundle install But, when I tried to start the app with thin start, it can't find any of the bundler-installed gems since they're not installed in the default gems directory. My question is: how do I make this work? Do I need to install thin via bundler as well? Will that still set up the thin executable in /usr/bin so I can start it from the command line like normal? • [Java] - Problem having my main thread sleeping

  I'm in a Java class and our assignment is to let us explore threads in Java. So far so good except for this one this one problem. And I believe that could be because of my lack of understanding how Java threads work at the moment. I have the main thread of execution which spawns new threads. In the main thread of execution in main() I am calling Thread.sleep(). When I do I get an Unhandled exception type InterruptedException. I am unsure of why I am getting this? I thought this was because I needed a reference to the main thread so I went ahead and made a reference to it via Thread.currentThread(). Is this not the way to have the thread sleep? What I need to do is have the main thread wait/sleep/delay till it does it required work again. Any help would be much appreciated.

  I have been asked to quote an hourly rate for freelance programming for a Rails project. Although it would be my first paid project on Rails, I know the technology well from personal projects and have a decade of professional programming experience. This would be my first freelance project ever, so I have no idea how to find out what the going rate for my services should be. Obviously, if I quote a rate that is too high, they may choose someone else - too low and I may feel cheated later on. Any suggestions? Update: I am in NYC and the project is scheduled for 6 months to a year (but this seems unrealistic - I think it will be a multi-year project). I would develop on site (at a corporate location) with one other developer and the project would consist of about 200 custom-built pages initially. 10 hour days with weekends and additional overtime as required. The customer has given no information about how much they will pay - "a competitive rate" - they want me to start the discussion.

  Hi all, I try to get a list with distinct into the forms.py like this: forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField(queryset=Events.objects.values('hostname'), required=False).distinct() In the python shell this command works perfect, but when trying it in forms.py leaves me a blank form, so nothing appears. When i just do Events.objects.all() the form appears, but distinct doesn't work with Events.objects.all()... i also tried values_list etc but doesn't seem to fit into the forms neither... anyone got an idea how to get a SELECT DISTINCT into a ModelMultipleChoiceField? I read some other questions about this at stackoverflow but nothing seems to work out with me, so hopefully someone knows how to do this in forms.py. Thxs in advance

  part of the specification of this desktop application is to have a mini browser built in, so that you can enter URL, and navigate the site as you would on a normal browser. Access to the browser page's DOM is required, should let me programmatically change the rendering view of a page, should be cross-platform, renders javascript JDIC seems outdated and I've heard Mozswing doesn't run on Mac....   I'm having this issue whenever i run "gem install rails": usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/yaml.rb:56:in `<top (required)>': It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. ERROR: Loading command: install (LoadError) cannot load such file -- zlib ERROR: While executing gem ... (NameError) uninitialized constant Gem::Commands::InstallCommand Ruby and Rubygems were both installed from source. I've installed libyaml from source and from apt-get. I'm running ubuntu 12.04. I am NOT running RVM as far as I know (trying "rvm" returns "bla bla bla not installed apt-get". I'm pretty sure this speaks of 2 separate issues but I need solutions to both. Thanks.

  Hi All, I've a scenario wherein I need to send/assign tasks from my browser UI to the concerned. This should happen with Outlook being offline (or for that matter outlook not even configured on the terminal) so that the user can be accessing a workflow from any terminal (using his/her AD credentials) and if required should have the ability to send a task to the concerned without having to return to his own terminal to be able to do so. I envision that the user's credentials should be used to look up the AD for his/her email ID and send a task using the same from anywhere in the intranet. Using Outlook object library I have been able to assign/send tasks, but with the Outlook being fired up and not otherwise. Redemption does the sync of contacts while Outlook is offline but not tasks. • Compilers behave differently with a null parameter of a generic method

  The following code compiles perfectly with Eclipse, but fails to compile with javac: public class HowBizarre { public static <P extends Number, T extends P> void doIt(P value) { } public static void main(String[] args) { doIt(null); } } I simplified the code, so T is not used at all now. Still, I don't see a reason for the error. For some reason javac decides that T stands for Object, and then complains that Object does not conform to the bounds of T (which is true): HowBizarre.java:6: incompatible types; inferred type argument(s) java.lang.Number,java.lang.Object do not conform to bounds of type variable (s) P,T found : <P,T>void required: void doIt(null); ^ Note that if I replace the null parameter with a non-null value, it compiles fine. Which of the compilers behaves correctly and why? Is this a bug of one of them?

  I've created a python script in which an event needs to be executed each time I press the Super (or WinKey) on my keyboard. How can one achieve this without the python process being "focused" - as it is running in the background waiting for the key to be pressed to execute the event? I've seen a lot of posts around the web showing me how to read input - but they have all required one to have the process "focused" and none have showed me how to capture the Super (or WinKey) using a python script. • How can I temporarily redirect printf output to a c-string?

  I'm writing an assignment which involves adding some functionality to PostgreSQL on a Solaris box. As part of the assignment, we need to print some information on the client side (i.e.: using elog.) PostgreSQL already has lots of helper methods which print out the required information, however, the helper methods are packed with hundreds of printf calls, and the elog method only works with c-style strings. Is there I way that I could temporarily redirect printf calls to a buffer so I could easily send it over elog to the client? If that's not possible, what would be the simplest way to modify the helper methods to end up with a buffer as output?
