  • Returning the size of available virtual memory at run-time in C++

    - by Greenhouse Gases
In C++ is there a predefined library function that will return the size of RAM currently available on a computer a program is being run on, at run-time? For instance, if an object is 4bytes, then can we divide the available virtual memory by 4 bytes to give an estimate of how many more objects could be stored by the program safely? I have used the sizeof() function to return the size of objects within my program. Thanks

  • Qt - controlling drag behaviour

    - by bullettime
Suppose I want my draggable widget to move differently than just staying under my cursor while being dragged. For instance, having the widget move only in one axis, or have the widget move double the distance between the cursor and the drag starting point. Which method should I override to define this kind of behaviour?

  • Is there a way to have three way habtm associations in rails / activerecord?

    - by txwikinger
Often three (or more) way associations are needed for habtm associations. For instance a permission model with roles. A particular area of functionality has many users which can access many areas. The permissions on the area are setup via roles (habtm) The user/roles association is also habtm The permissions (read, write, delete, etc) are habtm towards roles. How would that be best done with rails/activerecord?

  • HTTP triggers for Postgres

    - by HeineyBehinds
I'm trying to write a Postgres trigger such that when a configuration table is updated, a backend component is notified and can handle the change. I know that Oracle has the concept of a web/HTTP trigger, where you can execute an HTTP GET from the Oracle instance itself to a URL that can then handle the request at the application layer. I'm wondering if Postgres (v. 9.0.5) has the same feature, or comes with anything similar (and, subsequently, how to set it up/configure it)?

  • Can we write an EOF character ourselves?

    - by Apoorv
Most of the languages like C++ when writing into a file, put an EOF character even if we miss to write statements like : filestream.close However is there any way, we can put the EOF character according to our requirement, in C++, for an instance. Or any other method we may use apart from using the functions provided in C++. If you need to ask more of information then kindly do give a comment. Thanks in advance.

  • Change the key being pressed with C#

    - by Benny
Hey, I'm trying to write a program in C# that will track the pressing of certain keys (using a keyboard hook), and send different ones instead. For instance, when I press the A key it will instead send the Q key. I used http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/CSLLKeyboardHook.aspx this for my hooks and tried to use the SendKeys function, but I get an exception about the garbage collector destroying some object inside the hook class.

  • Getting default value for java primitive types

    - by ripper234
I have a java primitive type at hand: Class c = int.class; // or long.class, or boolean.class I'd like to get a 'default value' for this class - specifically the value is assigned to fields of this type if they are not initialized. E.g., '0' for a number, 'false' for a boolean. Is there a generic way to do this? I tried c.newInstance() But I'm getting an InstantiationException, and not a default instance.

  • vector does not erase content correctly (infite amount run of copy asignment operator untill crash [BEX])?

    - by Gam Erix
    Well my problem is that after I want to "unload" loaded DLL's the copy assignmnent operator is called an unlimited amount of times until crash. The code from which I remove the vector data looks like this: void UnloadPlugins() { dbg(("[DBG]UnloadPlugins()")); for(std::vector<DLLInfo>::iterator it = plugins.begin(); it != plugins.end(); ++it) { plugins.erase(it); } dbg(("[DBG]UnloadPlugins()::Done")); } however "[DBG]UnloadPlugins()::Done" gets never printed. this is my copy assignmnent operator: // 2. copy assignment operator DLLInfo& operator=(const DLLInfo& that) { dbg(("[DBG]Start-DLLInfo& operator=(const DLLInfo& that)")); Instance = that.Instance;//hinstance dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 1")); //Identifier.assign(that.Identifier);//string dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 2")); IsAMX = that.IsAMX;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 3")); dwSupportFlags = that.dwSupportFlags;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 4")); Load = that.Load;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 5")); Unload = that.Unload;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 6")); Supports = that.Supports;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 7")); ProcessTick = that.ProcessTick;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 8")); AmxLoad = that.AmxLoad;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 9")); AmxUnload = that.AmxUnload;//integer dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 10")); UseDestructor = that.UseDestructor;//bool dbg(("[DBG]DLLInfo 11")); KeyboardHit = that.KeyboardHit;//integer dbg(("[DBG]End-DLLInfo& operator=(const DLLInfo& that)")); return *this; } So the log looks like: [17:50:50] [DBG]UnloadPlugins() [17:50:50] [DBG]~DLLInfo [17:50:50] [DBG]~DLLInfo::if(this->UseDestructor) passed [17:50:50] [DBG]~DLLInfo::if(this->UseDestructor)::if(this->Unload != NULL && this->IsAMX) passed [17:50:50] [DBG]~DLLInfo::end [17:50:50] [DBG]Start-DLLInfo& operator=(const DLLInfo& that) [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 1 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 2 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 3 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 4 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 5 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 6 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 7 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 8 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 9 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 10 [17:50:50] [DBG]DLLInfo 11 [17:50:50] [DBG]End-DLLInfo& operator=(const DLLInfo& that) [17:50:50] [DBG]Start-DLLInfo& operator=(const DLLInfo& that) ... [17:50:50] [DBG]End-DLLInfo& operator=(const DLLInfo& that) ...repeat until crash What could the problem be?

  • Is it standard behavior for this code to throw a NullPointerException?

    - by Eric
I've had a big problem in some library code, which I've pinned down to a single statement: System.out.println((String) null); Ok, the code doesn't actually look like that, but it certainly calls println with a null argument. Doing this causes my whole applicaio to throw an unexpected NullPointerException. In general, should println throw this exception under that circumstance, or is this non-standard behavior due to a poor implementation of the out instance?
