• What Should You Look for In a CRM Demo?

  I have helped firms evaluate software demos and delivered demos in diverse industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, life sciences, and travel (to name just a few). Here are a few suggestions. First, which vendor has the best fit for your industry? Make sure that the vendor demo staff tell you clearly throughout the demo (not just in a passing comment), what portion of each business process and screen is standard, what has been configured, what has been custom coded, and what has been provided by a partner. If you don't keep asking, what you buy may be less useful than what you saw. This will lead to added (and unbudgeted) costs and time. Second, what are the roles of the primary users? What are their top-most needs, such as exception-oriented dashboards or rapid data entry? Can you get a demo for each key role, showing how the software fits a typical workday? Have the vendor repeatedly tell you what is standard, configured, custom coded, or provided by a partner. Third, how well does the demo balance ease of use with completeness of business processes? One common approach is to hide needed fields or steps that are of low visual value. Another approach is to focus heavily on a visually appealing capability, while downplaying the fit with your key business processes. • Suspending my laptop breaks ethernet over firewire, are there commands which can fix it?

  As mentioned in this question I am using a firewire cable to provide a private network between my laptop and my desktop, because it makes using the screen sharing program synergy much nicer than using WIFI. However when I leave my office for the day and I suspend my laptop, when I return the next day, the desktop and the laptop cannot communicate over firewire anymore. The firewire0 device still has an IP address. but when I try and ping the desktop I get no route to host I'm using kernel 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 on Ubuntu 10.10. Is there some way I can remedy this without a reboot? Like, removing some kernel modules and re-inserting them? • How do I install FreeNX server so that it works correctly?

  I've tried every single possible way of installing the server now, I've read every how to available and I still can't get it to work. Please let me know in which step I do wrong. I'm using ubuntu 10.10. I will mainly be referring to the following how-to, but also this, and this one. First I add the ppa Install Freenx Download the special Freenx package as stated in the howto, fix ownership - install it Create custom SSH key Copy the file /var/lib/nxserver/home/.ssh/client.id_dsa.key to the client and import it in nomachine (windows 7 x64) Check that both the user I will be logging in with and the user nx is in AllowedUsers in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file Check the port that ssh is listening on Login through nomachine with my regular user account in ubuntu I always receive the message "authentication failed for [user]" when I try to log in. And I can't see the user "nx" which is said to be created during installation when I look under System-Administration-"Users & Groups". Can anyone please enlighten me if there is any step that I miss or have misunderstood? Thank you very much! (Or is there an easier way of enabling remote desktop that it can be used with a windows machine? I prefer not using VNC because I was hoping of being able to get better performance than that. And when I tried using XRDP I only received a black screen on the client.)

I tried both and both is working fine. I finally go with sublime text 2.   Here is the reason why sublime text 2 is awesome. phpstorm and sublime text 2 both is licensed  software. In sublime text 2 you can use it for unlimited time when phpstorm is available for 30 days only. Sublime text 2 is very memory efficient and lightweight software this is first thing people found best in sublime text 2. in phpstorm problem for me is sometime it’s goes unresponsive when I tried html5 boilerplate. sublime text 2 is never hang depend on memory size of project compare to phpstorm. in Sublime text 2 you can got better speed at coding after learning some shortcut and basic thing applied specially sublime text 2. Sublime text 2 come with distraction free mode when phpstorm have nothing with full-screen. Sublime text 2 support almost every language. I have seen many people in community who has move from their PHP IDE to sublime text 2. You can use LESS and coffeescript in it. There are many kind of customization out in github regarding sublime text 2.   In past I also have also tried webmatrix. the latest version of webmatrix have nothing good as sublime text 2. • How to I get a rotated sprite to move left or right?

  Using Java/Slick 2D, I'm using the mouse to rotate a sprite on the screen and the directional keys (in this case, WASD) to move the spite. Forwards and backwards is easy, just position += cos(ang)*speed or position -= cos(ang)*speed. But how do I get the sprite to move left or right? I'm thinking it has something to do with adding 90 degrees to the angle or something. Any ideas? • How do I encrypt but share a number of folders?

  I want to achieve the following functionality. Is it possible? Boot up computer (possibly via WakeOnLan or WakeOnPlan). Either be automatically logged in, or log in via login screen, or log in remotely. I change this behavior occasionally, so full disk encryption wouldn't work for me because it requires a password on bootup (which would it would prevent the remote bootup options, and the automatic login option). I am only interested in encrypting data, not the entire harddrive. Once logged in either: a launcher/tray icon is available to launch encryption app (preferred) run encryption app from the dash Prompted to unlock encrypted folder(s) individually. Unlocked folders are available to: me, apps I am running (e.g. editors, SpiderOak) Ideally, folders that I share with bindfs can be locked/unlocked by other users too. A key point is that once I have unlocked an encrypted folder, I don't want to have to think about it again. I currently achieve this via TrueCrypt (except for the last part). Unfortunately TrueCrypt isn't well integrated with Ubuntu (licensing issues prevent Debian from including it in their repo, the interface isn't quite integrated with Unity, setting it as a startup app doesn't quite work, sharing encrypted folders isn't really part of its design). Is there an alternative to TrueCrypt that is better integrated with the Ubuntu GUI and would suit this workflow?

  Hello everyone, I'm here with some Vista-trouble. After a cigarette-break I returned to my desk to find my PC with a black screen, and after failing to wake it up did a forced restart. I haven't been installing any hardware or software for quite a while. Ever since, Vista gets stuck on the animated 'Microsoft Corporation' progress bar with the animation still running and no hard disk activity. With an F8 and safe-mode + prompt I saw that the boot gets stuck at crcdisk.sys. I'm running Vista64 SP1. What could the problem be? Any advice?

  I'm sick of Lucida Console font on my putty sessions. I used to love whatever font was employed on IBM rs/6000 consoles. Does anyone know the name of that font and if it is available (and usable) from anywhere? Sorry, I need to clarify the "consoles" to which I refer were not the serial consoles but rather smaller stand-alone X-Window systems. They could be setup without XDM and would start in text screen. I'm searching like crazy to find the actual machines I remember (there were hundreds of them at Uni) but I don't have the IBM #s in front of me. It looked amazingly similar to the PS/2 like this:

• VirtualBox : increase hard disk size of the virtual machine

  I have run out of space on my WinXP virtual machine, which I only gave 10 GB space for when I created it. Is there an easy way to increase it to, say, 20 GB? Most things work fine out of the box, but the graphics cards are giving me trouble. When booting, I get the message "failed to get i915 symbols, graphics turbo disabled". Then the screen blanks out during the remaining boot period. I am able to get the display working by changing to one of the consoles, then closing and opening the laptop's lid. It seems that Ubuntu gets confused about which card to use. I've read here: http://www.andreas-demmer.de/en/2010/07/18/testbericht-linux-auf-dem-hp-envy-14 that I should be able to turn off one the cards by echoing keywords into /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch, but that path is not available on my system. The BIOS does not have any methods to switch of the ATI card. Help anyone? /Carsten

• DNS Propagation Investigation Techniques?

  So I changed the nameservers to veeter.com about 5 days ago now - and the domain is still not resolving over the net. It does intermittently, but then cuts out again every few hours. I run 10+ other domains through the same dedicated server (running CentOS/WHM) and they are all up - so it has nothing to do with that. I have asked my dedicated server support staff what the problem might be, they told me to "log into WHM and click on 'Add a DNS Zone' under the 'DNS Functions' section on the left hand side of the screen. Once you have done this and dns fully propagates it should resolve any intermittent dns issues you may be experiencing." BUT there is already a DNS zone in place for the domain on my server - so what should I do

• Why is autologon in Windows 7 a security risk

  If I set my Windows 7 account to automatically logon so I don't have to type a password, and I don't have to click my username on the logon screen, I heard it's a security risk. From Windows 7 Auto Login: Although I don’t personally recommend this, there are some people out there who don’t want to bother with using a password to protect their Windows user account. Of course, using a password in Windows isn’t required, only suggested. But even if you don’t fill one in, you still have to click your user icon to start the login process. An easier way - although again much less secure - is to enable auto-logins for your Windows PC. This is possible in Windows 7, as it was in prior versions, but it takes a little finagling to do so. (And for good reason, darn it.) What is risky about it besides people being able to logon locally? Does it make it easier for hackers to logon remoately?

• Changing aspect ratio of Virtualbox VM under OSX

  I have a Windows guest on an OSX host, running at 1024x768. I want to use scale-mode to make the window small enough to have on the side of my screen, but the problem is that since I maximised the VM in scale mode earlier, the aspect ratio is now nearer my 16:10. I've tried resizing in only one dimension, disabling and re-enabling scale mode and also reinstalling guest additions. A search of the Virtualbox docs does tell me that maintaining aspect ratio is doable under OSX, but it doesn't say how. I'd really like to be able to fix this without reinstalling my VM if possible. I'm running Virtualbox 4.2.16 r86992 under OSX 10.8.4 with a Window 7 guest.

• Struggling to get set up with JOGL2.0

  I guess that Game Dev' is a more sensible place for my problem then SO. I did have JOGL1.1 set up and working, but I soon discovered that it did not support the latest OpenGL, so I started work on upgrading to JOGL2.0 it's not gone too well. Firstly, is it worth me trying to get JOGL to work, or should I just move over to LWJGL? I am fairly comfortable with OpenGL (via C++) and from what I did get working with JOGL1.1, I seem to be OK adapting to it. Assuming that I stick with JOGL, am I foolish for trying to use JOGL2.0? From what I can gather, JOGL2.0 is still in beta, but I am willing to go with it as I want to make use of the latest OpenGL I can. I have been using the Eclipse IDE and have set up a user library for JOGL, here is a screen shot of the configuration and I have added this user library to my own Eclipse project. the system variable %JOGL_HOME% points to "C:\Users\edacosh\Downloads\JOGL2.0" so that should work fine. Now, the problem I actually having, when I try to run my code, on the line GLProfile glp = GLProfile.getDefault(); The code stops with the following message...   Let me explain the situation. I started transforming a "old (.Net 2.0)" Application into a webapplication. Problem here is, that no-one here is really acquainted with the UX of a website (Simple, efficient). Eventhough, i still have to regard that the website can be tailored to a customer needs through parameters (yeah, i know :s ) For example: I wanted to have a layout similar to invoicemachine (= as simple as possible). -- He wants a Ribbon toolbar. Going to a supplier gives the list of supplier -- He wants to display the "Create Supplier" screen where you can use the wildcards in a certain textbox, to search for a specific Supplier and then give the list of the suppliers. Also, i need 4 search/filter mechanisms: people can search per field with wildmarks can filter the suppliers search a keyword through all the data of a supplier filter the "list Suppliers" page by the first letter of the name. LIST Suppliers | A | D | Z Adam Wrincle ADD |EDIT |Delete Damzel InDistress ADD |EDIT |Delete Zorro ADD |EDIT |Delete I can't seem to get through to him, that the UX of a website needs to be differently than a Windows Application. If he wants to bring all the logic of the windows app into a website, why letting me build a website then? Stick to the old solution. Am i mistaking so hard or how could i convince / show him that an online-solution is something different than the offline solution. He already "saw" online solutions of other applications to get an idea, but if i suggest something he won't listen (if it's GUI / UX related, that is).

  I've been using verbatim string literals for some time now, and never quite thought about using a regular string literal until I started to come across them in Microsoft provided XNA samples. With that said, I'm trying to implement a new AudioManager class from the Net Rumble sample. I have two (2) issues here: Question 1: In my code for my GameplayScreen screen I have a folder location written as the following, and it works fine: menuButton = content.Load<SoundEffect>(@"sfx/menuButton"); menuClose = content.Load<SoundEffect>(@"sfx/menuClose"); If you notice, you'll see that I'm using a verbatim string, with a forward slash "/". In the AudioManager class, they use a regular string literal, but with two backslashes "\". I understand that one is used as an escape, but why are they BACK instead of FORWARD? (See below) soundList[soundName] = game.Content.Load<SoundEffect>("audio\\wav\\"+ soundName); Question 2: I seem to be doing everything correctly in my AudioManager class, but I'm not sure of what this line means: audioFileList = audioFolder.GetFiles("*.xnb"); I suppose that the *xnb means look for everything BUT files that end in *xnb? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with my file locations, as the sound effects are not playing. • Libgdx actor bounds are wrong

  The Actor's boundaries are not centered at the ButtonText but I used the setBounds() method. The higher the Y position is, the less centered is the boundary. The weird thing is that i only created and added to the Stage one button but the screen shows two. When i click the top button, the bottom one is the one highlighted. • Can web apps allow fast data-typists to "type-ahead"?

  In some data entry contexts, I've seen data typists, type really fast and know so well the app they use, and have a mechanic quality in their work so that they can "type ahead", ie continue typing and "tab-bing" and "enter-ing" faster than the display updates, so that in many occasions they are typing in the data for the next form before it draws itself. Then when this next entry form appears, their keystrokes fill the text boxes and they continue typing, selecting etc. In contexts like this, this speed is desirable, since this persons are really productive. I think this "type ahead of time" is only possible in desktop apps, but I may be wrong. My question is whether this way of handling the keyboard buffer (which in desktop apps require no extra programming) is achievable in web apps, or is this impossible because of the way web apps work, handle sessions, etc (network latency and the overhead of generating new web pages ) ? Edit: By "type ahead" I mean "keyboard type ahead" (typing faster than the next entry form can load), not suggets-as-you-type-like-google type ahead. Typeahead is a feature of computers and software (and some typewriters) that enables users to continue typing regardless of program or computer operation—the user may type in whatever speed he or she desires, and if the receiving software is busy at the time it will be called to handle this later. Often this means that keystrokes entered will not be displayed on the screen immediately. This programming technique for handling user what is known as a keyboard buffer.

  I have a Toshiba z930 Ultrabook with PGP Desktop installed for whole disk encryption. It installed correctly, and started encrypting but it stays paused. If I reboot, it shows me the PGP desktop username, password, domain screen. If I enter in my credentials, it allows me to get into windows but encryption remains paused. If I click on resume, it lets me enter a password, accepts it but then it doesn't do anything. One suspicious thing is that in the 'Select disk or partition to encrypt' box, it says, C: 120B fixed disk. Unknown Bus: TOSHIBA THNSNS12... Do I need to change something in the BIOS, or install any drivers so that it doesn't see it as an Unknown Bus?
