  • DDD principlers and ASP.NET MVC project design

    Two part questions I have a product aggregate that has; Prices PackagingOptions ProductDescriptions ProductImages etc I have modeled one product repository and did not create individual repositories for any of the child classes. All db operations are handled through product repository. Am I understanding the DDD concept correctly so far? Sometimes the question comes to my mind that having a repository for lets say packaging options could make my life easier by directly fetching a the packaging option from the DB by using its ID instead of asking the product repository to find it in its PackagingOptions collection and give it to me.. Second part is managing the edit create operations using ASP.MVC frame work I am currently trying to manage all add edit remove of these child collections of product through product controller(sound right?). One challenge I am now facing is; If I edit a specific packaging option of product through mydomain/product/editpackagingoption/10 I have access to the id of the packaging option But I don't have the ID of the product it self and this forces me to write a query to first find the product that has this specific packaging option then edit that product and the revelant packaging option. I can do this as all packaging option have their unique ID but this would fail if I have collections that don't have unique ID. That feels very wrong.. The next option I thought of is sending both the product and packaging option IDs on the url like; mydomain/product/editpackagingoption/3/10 But I am not sure if that is a good design either. So I am at a point that I am a bit confused. might be having fundamental misunderstandings around all of this... I would appreciate if you bear with the long question and help me put this together. thanks!

  • ASP.NET MembershipProvider and StructureMap

    I was using the default AspNetSqlMembershipProvider in my application. Authentication is performed via an AuthenticationService (since I'm also supporting other forms of membership like OpenID). My AuthenticationService takes a MembershipProvider as a constructor parameter and I am injecting the dependency using StructureMap like so: For<MembershipProvider>().Use(Membership.Provider); This will use the MembershipProvider configured in web.config. All this works great. However, now I have rolled my own MembershipProvider that makes use of a repository class. Since the MembershipProvider isn't exactly IoC friendly, I added the following code to the MembershipProvider.Initialize method: _membershipRepository = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<IMembershipRepository>(); However, this raises an exception, like StructureMap hasn't been initialized (cannot get instance of IMembershipRepository). However, if I remove the code and put breakpoints at my MembershipProvider's initialize method and my StructureMap bootstrapper, it does appear that StructureMap is configured before the MembershipProvider is initialized. My only workaround so far is to add the above code to each method in the MembershipProvider that needs the repository. This works fine, but I am curious as to why I can't get my instance in the Initialize method. Is the MembershipProvider performing some internal initialization that runs before any of my own application code does? Thanks Ben

  • creating new usercntrols at runtime in ASP.NET MVC

    Hi everyone, My situation is that the user is creating an entity on my site which contains the particlars of the driectors of that company, name address etc.. The Director form is a separate user control with the appropriate textboxes etc. At run time we don't know how many of these directors there will be so I need one to be able to use something like an "ADD DIRECTOR" or "DELETE DIRECTOR" button which will present or delete the another usercontrol to add the additional director. Currently I am trying to make this happen within a pane of the JQuery Accordion control. I have looked many places for how to do this but to no avail. Can anyone tell me where I might find some inforamation about how I can do this? All the best Paul

  • Tutorials for .NET database app using SQLite

    I have some MS Access experience, and had a class on console c++ apps, now I am trying to develop my first program. It's a little C# db app. I have the db tables and columns planned and keyed into VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I'm needing C#/VS tutorials that will guide me on configuring relationships, datatyping, etc, on the db so I can get it ready for testing of the schema. The only tutorials I've been able to find either talk about general db basics (ie, not helping me with VS/C#), or about C# communications with an existing SQL db. Thank you. (In case it matters, I'm using the open source System.Data.SQLite (sqlite.phxsoftware.com) for the db. I chose it over SQL Server CE after seeing a comparison between the two. Also I wanted a server-less version of SQL because this little app will be on other people's computers and I want to to do as little support as possible.)

    I am writing a serial communication program using the SerialPort class in C# to interact with a strip machine connected via a RS232 cable. When i send the command to the machine it responds with some bytes depending on the command. Like when i send a "\D" command, i am expecting to download the machine program data of 180 bytes as a continous string. As per the machine's manual, it suggests as a best practice to send an unreognized characters like comma (,) character to make sure the machine is initialized before sending the first command in the cycle. But i am trying to make sure the result of the comma command then initiating the actual command. but the received thread is inserting the bytes from the previous communication cycle. Can any one please shed some light into this...? I lost quite some hair just trying to get this work. I am not sure where i am doing wrong

  • Implementing Security on custom BCS/.net class?

    I'm implementing a custom BCS Model to get data from a backend system. As the backend uses it's own user management, I'm accessing it through a service account. All of this works well and allows me to pull data into SharePoint. However because it's channeled through the service account, everyone can access it, which is bad. Can anyone give me some tips which method to implement? The backend does not give me NT ACLs, but I wonder if I could just "fake" them somehow? (Essentially saying "This NT Group has Read Access" is good enough). I am aware of ISecurityTrimmer2 for Search Results, but ideally I want to cover security inside the BCS Model so that it applies to external lists as well. I want to avoid using Secure storage and mapping each individual user to the backend.

    I have a fancybox popup with a form inside it. When the form is posted it all works fine BUT after it is posted it redirects to the view and shows it on a full page. What i want is for the popup for to be posted and the fancy box to be closed. My settings are autogenrated by the deisgner. <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>True</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> In the config file which contains the settings for the specific server looks like the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>False</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> Sadly, this does not work. I get an error "The format of a configSource file must be an element containing the name of the section" that highlights the second line (2nd example code). How must the Tag be named in order to make evertything work? Edit: Deleting the "applicationSetting"-Tags does not work either.

    Hi all! Do you have any idea how to covert different Unicode characters to their closest ASCII equivalents? Like Ä - A. A googled but didn't find any suitable solution. Trick Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("Ä")[0] didn't work. (Result was ?). I found that there is class Encoder that has Fallback property that is exactly for cases when char can't be converted, but implementations (EncoderReplacementFallback) are stupid and convert to ?.     As I understand it, Domain Models are classes that only describe the data (aggregate roots). They are POCOs and do not reference outside libraries (nothing special). View models on the other hand are classes that contain domain model objects as well as all the interface specific objects like SelectList. A ViewModel includes using System.Web.Mvc;. A repository pulls data out of a database and feeds them to us through domain model objects. What mechanic or device creates the view model objects, populating them from a database? Would it be a factory that has database access? Would you bleed the view specific classes like System.Web.Mvc in to the Repository? Something else? For example, if you have a drop down list of cities, you would reference a SelectList object in the root of your View Model object, right next to your DomainModel reference: public class CustomerForm { public CustomerAddress address {get;set;} public SelectList cities {get;set;} } The cities should come from a database and be in the form of a select list object. The hope is that you don't create a special Repository method to extract out just the distinct cities, then create a redundant second SelectList object only so you have the right data types.

  • Why don't the .net 4.0 charting controls work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express?

    The .net charting controls are now built into .net 4.0. They work great in Visual Studio 2010. However, they do not work in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express (which is what I have at home.) I get the error, System.Web.HttpException: Error executing child request for ChartImg.axd. That sounds like the message from .net 3.5 if charting wasn't set up correctly. But the bottom of the same page says, "Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:4.0.30319; ASP.NET Version:4.0.30319.1" Does anyone know why this doesn't work?

    I am trying to create a new file and write XML to it: FileStream output = File.Create(Path.Combine(PATH_TO_DATA_DIR, fileName)); The argument evaluates to: C:\path\to\Data\test.xml The exception is: The process cannot access the file 'C:\path\to\Data\test.xml' because it is being used by another process. What am I doing wrong here? UPDATE: This code throws the same exception: StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(Path.Combine(PATH_TO_DATA_DIR, fileName)); UPDATE 2: The file I am trying to create does not exist in the file system. So how can be it in use?

But my in code doesn't recognize TEST. If I don't use a masterpage and I give an id to a tag my in code reconigzes it, but now that I started using masterpages it doesn't. What am I doing wrong? Thx

    I have a web reference that I do not have access to through my windows credentials, but do through impersonation. Unfortunately, I cannot update or add the reference because of my lack of credentials. When the service is added, it works fine when I set impersonation to true and add credentials. Is there a way to impersonate a credentials when adding/updating a web service reference through the GUI?
