  All, I have a config xml file in the following format: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configdata> <development> <siteTitle>You are doing Development</siteTitle> </development> <test extends="development"> <siteTitle>You are doing Testing</siteTitle> </test> <production extends="development"> <siteTitle>You are in Production</siteTitle> </production> </configdata> To read this config file to apply environment settings, currently I am using, the following code in index.php file: $appEnvironment = "production"; $config = new Zend_Config_Xml('/config/settings.xml', $appEnvironment ); To deploy this code on multiple environments, as user has to change index.php file. Instead of doing that, is it possible to maintain an attribute in the xml file, "say active=true". Based on which the Zend_Config_Xml will know which section of the xml file settings to read? Thanks

• Porting Python algorithm to C++ - different solution

  Hello, I have written a little brute string generation script in python to generate all possible combinations of an alphabet within a given length. It works quite nice, but for the reason I wan't it to be faster I try to port it to C++. The problem is that my C++ Code is creating far too much combination for one word. Heres my example in python: ./test.py gives me aaa aab aac aad aa aba .... while ./test (the c++ programm gives me) aaa aaa aaa aaa aa Here I also get all possible combinations, but I get them twice ore more often. • Codeigniter: how should I restructure db schema?

  I don't even know if that's the right term. May it be known that I'm a major novice! I have three tables: users, profiles, and survey. Each one has user_id as it's first field, (auto-increment for users), and they're all tied by a foreign key constraint, CASCADE on DELETE. Currently, for each user, let's say user_id 1, they have a corresponding db entry in the other tables. For profiles it lists all their information, and the survey table holds all their survey information. Now I must change things...darn scope creep. Users need the ability to have multiple survey results. I imagine that this would be similar to a comment table for a blog... My entire app runs around the idea that a single user is linked to a constraining profile and survey. How should I structure my db? How should I design my app's db so that a user can have multiple tests/profiles for the test? Please assist! Any advice, information and personal-knowledge is appreciated! Right now the only way I know how to accompany my client is to create a pseudo-user for each test (so unnecessary) and list them in a view table (called "your tests")-- these are obtained from the db by saying: where user_id=manager_id

• Google calendar query returns at most 25 entries

  I'm trying to delete all calendar entries from today forward. I run a query then call getEntries() on the query result. getEntries() always returns 25 entries (or less if there are fewer than 25 entries on the calendar). Why aren't all the entries returned? I'm expecting about 80 entries. As a test, I tried running the query, deleting the 25 entries returned, running the query again, deleting again, etc. This works, but there must be a better way. Below is the Java code that only runs the query once. • Reading input files in FORTRAN

  Purpose: Create a program that takes two separate files, opens and reads them, assigns their contents to arrays, do some math with those arrays, create a new array with product numbers, print to a new file. Simple enough right? My input files have comment characters at the beginning. One trouble is, they are '#' which are comment characters for most plotting programs, but not FORTRAN. What is a simple way to tell the computer not to look at these characters? Since I have no previous FORTRAN experience, I am plowing through this with two test files. • Error with threads during automatic testing on TeamCity 5

  Hello, I'm having some problems executing the tests of the application I'm developing. All the tests execute normally with ReSharper and in NCover. However, the execution of one of these tests in TeamCity is generating an error. This test initializes two objects, the object under test and a simulator of a real object. Both objects will communicate throug a serial link in a representation of the real scenario. ObjectSimulator r_simulator = new ObjectSimulator(...); ObjectDriver r_driver = new ObjectDriver(...); Assert.IsTrue(r_driver.Connect() == ErrorCode.Success); The simulator just do the following in the constructor public class ObjectSimulator { ... public ObjectSimulator() { // serial port configuration m_port = new SerialPort(); m_port.DataReceived += DataReceivedEvent; } ... } The main object has two threads. The main thread of the application and a timer to refresh a watchdog timer in the real object. public ErrorCode Connect() { ... StartSynchroTimer(); Thread.Sleep(4); // to check if the timer is working properly ... } The problem is comming from the Thread.Sleep() call, as when I remove it everything works. It seems like the ObjectSimulator also sleeps and doesn't receive the DataReceived event. How can I resolve this issue?

  Hi, I have copied a DB from one my computers and using it here. On trying to open the page which requires the fetching content from DB, on con.open I am getting this exception: Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp_log.LDF". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Cannot open database "cakephp" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'Sarin-PC\Sarin'. I have attached the database from Management Studio Express 2008 and I have also checcked the connection string. Here it is: <connectionStrings> <add name="cn" connectionString="server=.\sqlexpress;database=cakephp;integrated security=true;uid=sarin;pwd=******"/> </connectionStrings> In Visual Studio, when I test the connection, it says "Test connection succeeded". • basic file input using C

  So im working on learning how to do file I/O, but the book I'm using is terrible at teaching how to receive input from a file. Below is is their example of how to receive input from a file, but it doesn't work. I have copied it word for word, and it should loop through a list of names until it reaches the end of the file( or so they say in the book), but it doesn't.   Hello. I have a music player swf embedded on an html page. Is there any way to have the music continuously play, even when the different html pages are loaded? When a link is clicked, the page is refreshed, also restarting the swf(music). If the site was AJAX driven, this wouldn't be a problem, but all my pages are static. I suppose I could put the entire body in an iframe, but there has to be a better option. Any ideas?

Also that code wont replace, the type "Icon" in the resource, it will delete everything and add that "Icon" and if I use BeginUpdateResource(path, false); it will not replace it neither but it will add ANOTHER "Icon". Where can I find an example to replace/add the icon using c# disregarding the name the resource use for the icon or if the resource doesn't exist?

• How do I populate an NSMutableArray in one class with another object?

  Hello, I know this is a simple answer, but I can't seem to find the solution. I created an object in its own class and I am trying to populate it with data from another class. For simple data types like NSString, I have no problem, but when trying make an NSMutableArray equal to another NSMutableArray or when I try to populate a NSMutableArray with another objects (like strings), I keep getting exception errors... Here is the object I am trying to populate: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface RSSFeedList : NSObject { NSString *subject; NSMutableArray *rssfeedDetail; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *subject; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *rssfeedDetail; @end This is how I was able to populate the NSString 'subject' in another class: rssFeedList.subject = @"test"; However, if I follow similar convention within that same class with respect to an Array, it throws an exception: rssFeedList.rssfeedDetail = rssItemDetailArray; Where rssItemDetailArray is a NSMutableArray that I have built in the same class. I have also tried to add items (i tried strings for testing) to the NSMutableArray directly like so to no avail: [rssFeedList.rssfeedDetail addObject:@"test"]; Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!

• wxpython - Running threads sequentially without blocking GUI

  I've got a GUI script with all my wxPython code in it, and a separate testSequences module that has a bunch of tasks that I run based on input from the GUI. The tasks take a long time to complete (from 20 seconds to 3 minutes), so I want to thread them, otherwise the GUI locks up while they're running. I also need them to run one after another, since they all use the same hardware. (My rationale behind threading is simply to prevent the GUI from locking up.) I'd like to have a "Running" message (with varying number of periods after it, i.e. "Running", "Running.", "Running..", etc.) so the user knows that progress is occurring, even though it isn't visible. I'd like this script to run the test sequences in separate threads, but sequentially, so that the second thread won't be created and run until the first is complete. Since this is kind of the opposite of the purpose of threads, I can't really find any information on how to do this... Any help would be greatly appreciated. • Why does the VS2005 debugger not report "base." values properly? (was "Why is this if statement fail

  I'm working on an existing class that is two steps derived from System.Windows.Forms.Combo box. The class overrides the Text property thus: public override string Text { get { return this.AccessibilityObject.Value; } set { if (base.Text != value) { base.Text = value; } } } The reason given for that "get" is this MS bug: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814346 However, I'm more interested in the fact that the "if" doesn't work. There are times where "base.Text != value" is true and yet pressing F10 steps straight to the closing } of the "set" and the Text property is not changed. I've seen this both by just checking values in the debugger, and putting a conditional breakpoint on that only breaks when the "if" statement's predicate is true. How on earth can "if" go wrong? The class between this and ComboBox doesn't touch the Text property. The bug above shouldn't really be affecting anything - it says it's fixed in VS2005. Is the debugger showing different values than the program itself sees? Update I think I've found what is happening here. The debugger is reporting value incorrectly (including evaluating conditional breakpoints incorrectly). To see this, try the following pair of classes: class MyBase { virtual public string Text { get { return "BaseText"; } } } class MyDerived : MyBase { public override string Text { get { string test = base.Text; return "DerivedText"; } } } Put a breakpoint on the last return statement, then run the code and access that property. In my VS2005, hovering over base.Text gives the value "DerivedText", but the variable test has been correctly set to "BaseText". So, new question: why does the debugger not handle base properly, and how can I get it to?

  I have Eclipse configured to use an external maven instance. Nonetheless I have an integration test that runs fine from the command line, but fails from within Eclipse. The error is a class Spring application context bean error: Cannot convert value of type [java.lang.String] to required type The culprit it a bean that sets property values using a PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer. <!-- property settings for non-JNDI database connections --> <bean id="placeholderConfigUuid" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer"> <property name="systemPropertiesModeName" value="SYSTEM_PROPERTIES_MODE_OVERRIDE" /> <property name="location" value="classpath:database.properties" /> <property name="placeholderPrefix" value="$DS{" /> </bean> I know which bean is failing because it appears in the stack trace and because when I replace the $DS{hibernate.dialect} with a static value it works. I have two questions: 1) Since M2Eclipse is using the same Maven setup as the command line, why does one work and the other fail? 2) How to fix this? I really like the ability to run a single jUnit test from within Eclipse on demand.

It works but I really can't understand how can I speed it up. I saw it use 1 core out of my quad core CPU so I thought Multi-threading might work even though I don't know how. Please help me. • NullPointerException on Activity Testint Tutorial

  Hello, I am currently trying the activity testing tutorial (Found here), and have a problem. It seems that whenever I try to call something inside the UIThread, I get a java.lang.NullPointerException. public void testSpinnerUI() { mActivity.runOnUiThread( new Runnable() { public void run() { mSpinner.requestFocus(); } }); } This gives me: Incomplete: java.lang.NullPointerException and nothing else. I have tried this on two different samples now, with the same result. I tried with a try/catch clause around the mSpinner.requestFocus() call, and it seems that mSpinner is null inside the thread. I have set it properly up with the setUp() function found in the same sample, and a quick assertNotNull( mSpinner ) shows me that mSpinner is in fact not null after the setUp() function. What can be the cause of this? EDIT; ok, some more testing has been done. It seems that the application that is being tested resets between each test. This essentially makes me have to reinstantiate all variables between each test. Is this normal?

• C++ universal data type

  I have a universal data type, which is passed by value, but does not maintain the type information. We store only pointers and basic data types(like int, float etc) inside this. Now for the first time, we need to store std::string inside this. So we decided to convert it into std::string* and store it. Then comes the problem of destruction. We don't like to copy the std::string every time. So i am thinking of an approach like this. Say the data type looks like this class Atom { public : enum flags { IS_STRING, IS_EMPTY, HAS_GOT_COPIED, MARKER }; private: void* m_value; std::bitset<MARKER> m_flags; public: ..... Atom( Atom& atm ) { atm.m_flags.set( HAS_GOT_COPIED ); ..... } ..... ~Atom() { if( m_flags.test(IS_STRING) && !m_flags.test(HAS_GOT_COPIED) ) { std::string* val = static_cast<std::string*>(m_value); delete val; } } }; Is this a good approach to find out whether there is no more reference to std::string*? • Using the read function to read in a file.

  Hello, gcc 4.4.1 I am using the read function to read in a wave file. However, when it gets to the read function. Execution seems to stop and freezes. I am wondering if I am doing anything wrong with this. The file size test-short.wave is: 514K. What I am aiming for is to read the file into the memory buffer chunks at a time. Currently I just testing this.
