using compareTo in Binary Search Tree program

I've been working on this program for a few days now and I've implemented a few of the primary methods in my BinarySearchTree class such as insert and delete. Insert seemed to be working fine, but once I try to delete I kept getting errors. So after playing around with the code I wanted to test my compareTo methods. I created two new nodes and tried to compare them and I get this error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: TreeNode cannot be cast to java.lang.Integer at java.lang.Integer.compareTo(Unknown Source) at TreeNode.compareTo(TreeNode.java:16) at BinarySearchTree.myComparision(BinarySearchTree.java:177) at main.main(main.java:14) Here is my class for creating the nodes: public class TreeNode<T> implements Comparable { protected TreeNode<T> left, right; protected Object element; public TreeNode(Object obj) { element=obj; left=null; right=null; } public int compareTo(Object node) { return ((Comparable) this.element).compareTo(node); } } Am I doing the compareTo method all wrong? Synchronizing Access to a member of the ASP.NET session

I'm building a Javascript application and eash user has an individual UserSession. The application makes a bunch of Ajax calls. Each Ajax call needs access to a single UserSession object for the user. Each Ajax call needs a UserSession object. Data in the UserSession object is unique to each user. Originally, during each Ajax call I would create a new UserSession object and it's data members were stored in the ASP.NET Session. However, I found that the UserSession object was being instantiated a lot. To minimize the construction of the UserSession object, I wrapped it in a Singleton pattern and sychronized access to it. I believe that the synchronization is happening application wide, however I only need it to happen per user. I saw a post here that says the ASP.NET cache is synchronized, however the time between creating the object and inserting it into the cache another Thread could start construction it's another object and insert it into the cache. Here is the way I'm currently synchronizing access to the object. ASP.NET MVC jQuery autocomplete with url.action helper in a script included in a page.

I have been building my first ASP.NET MVC web app. I have been using the jQuery autocomplete widget in a number of places like this: <head> $("#model").autocomplete({ source: '<%= Url.Action("Model", "AutoComplete") %>' }); </head> The thing is I have this jQuery code in a number of different places through my web app. So i thought I would create a seperate javascript script (script.js) where I could put this code and then just include it in the master page. Then i can put all these repeated pieces of code in that script and just call them where I need too. So I did this. My code is shown below: In the site.js script I put this function: function doAutoComplete() { $("#model").autocomplete({ source: '<%= Url.Action("Model", "AutoComplete") %>' }); } On the page I have: <head> <script src="../../Scripts/site.js" type="text/javascript"></script> doAutoComplete(); </head> But when I do this I get an Invalid Argument exception and the autocomplete doesnt work. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?Do i need to pass something to the doAutoComplete function?

Can I load a UIImage from a URL?

I have a URL for an image (got it from UIImagePickerController) but I no longer have the image in memory (the URL was saved from a previous run of the app). Can I reload the UIImage from the URL again? I see that UIImage has a imageWithContentsOfFile: but I have a URL. Can I use NSData's dataWithContentsOfURL: to read the URL? Any ideas why my NSString (photoURL's address is 0x536fbe0) doesn't respond to length? Why does it say it doesn't respond to -[NSURL length]? Doesn't it know that param is an NSString, not a NSURL?

How to parse large xml files on google app engine?

Hey, I have fairly large xml file 1mb in size that i host on s3. I need to parse that xml file into my app engine datastore entirely. I have written a simple DOM parser that works fine locally but online it reaches the 30sec error and stops. I tried lowering the xml parsing by downloading the xml file into a BLOB at first before the parser then parse the xml file from blob. problem is that blobs are limited to 1mb. so it fails. I have multiple inserts to the datastore which cause it to fail on 30 sec. i saw somewhere that they recommend using the Mapper class and save some exception where the process stopped but as i am a python n00b i cant figure out how to implement it on a DOM parser or an SAX one (please provide an example?) on how to use it. i'm pretty much doing a bad thing right now and i parse the xml using php outside the app engine and push the data via HTTP post to the app engine using a proprietary API which works fine but is stupid and makes me maintain two codes. can you please help me out?

I'm creating a usercontrol that will have a series of LinkButtons. I've declared all of my link buttons at the top of my class LinkButton LB1 = new LinkButton(); LinkButton LB2 = new LinkButton(); //... LinkButton LB9 = new LinkButton(); now I'd like to be able to create a loop to access all of those link buttons so I don't have to write them all out every time. I tried something like this within my overridden CreateChildControls() method: for (int i = 1; i < 10; i++) { LinkButton lb = (LinkButton)FindControl("LB" + i.ToString()); lb.Text = i.ToString() + "-Button"; } I keep getting an exception saying that lb.Text... is not set to an instance of an object. Which tools to use and how to find file descriptors leaking from Glassfish?

We release new code to production every week and Glassfish hasn't had any problems. This weekend we had to move racks at our hosting provider. There were not any code changes (they just powered off, moved, re-racked and powered on) but we're on a new network infrastructure and suddenly we're leaking file descriptors like a sieve. So I'm guessing there is some sort of connection attempting to be made which now fails due to a network change. I'm running Glassfish v2ur2-b04/AS9.1_02 on RHEL4 with an embedded IMQ instance. So I think this leak is in Glassfish or potentially IMQ. What approach should I take to tracking down these sockets of unknown protocol? Fetching Core Data for Tableview on iPhone - Tutorial leaves me with crashes when adding items to a

Been following the Core Data tutorial on Apple's developer site, and all is good until I have to add something to the fetched store. I am getting this error after a successful build and load when I try to add a new item to the list: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid update: invalid number of rows in section 0. The number of rows contained in an existing section after the update (0) must be equal to the number of rows contained in that section before the update (0), plus or minus the number of rows inserted or deleted from that section (1 inserted, 0 deleted). Due to the fact that the fetch goes through fine, and that if I replace the fetching with eventList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init] it works as expected (without persistance, of course), I am led to believe that the problem comes from not creating the Mutable Array correctly. Too many open files in one of my java routine.

I have a multithreaded code that has to generated a set of objects and write them to a file. When I run it I sometime get "Too many open files" message in Exception. I have checked the code to make sure that all the file streams are being closed properly. Here is the stack trace. When I do ulimit -a, open files allowed is set to 1024. We think increasing this number is not a viable option / solution. [java] java.io.FileNotFoundException: /export/event_1_0.dtd (Too many open files) [java] at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method) [java] at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:106) [java] at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:66) [java] at sun.net.www.protocol.file.FileURLConnection.connect(FileURLConnection.java:70) [java] at sun.net.www.protocol.file.FileURLConnection.getInputStream(FileURLConnection.java:161) [java] at java.net.URL.openStream(URL.java:1010) Now what we have identified so far by looking closely at the list of open files is that the VM is opening same class file multiple times. /export/BaseEvent.class 236 /export/EventType1BaseEvent.class 60 /export/EventType2BaseEvent.class 48 /export/EventType2.class 30 /export/EventType1.class 14 Where BaseEvent is partent of all the classes and EventType1 ant EventType2 inherits EventType1BaseEvent and EventType2BaseEvent respectively. Why would a class loader load the same class file 200+ times. It seems it is opening up the base class as many time it create any child instance. Is this normal? Can it be handler any other way apart from increasing the number of open files?

Lazarus Pascal - DB Connection - clarification

Cannot write to SD card -- canWrite is returning false

Sorry for the ambiguous title but I'm doing the following to write a simple string to a file: try { File root = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(); if (root.canWrite()){ System.out.println("Can write."); File def_file = new File(root, "default.txt"); FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(def_file); BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(fw); String defbuf = "default"; out.write(defbuf); out.flush(); out.close(); } else System.out.println("Can't write."); }catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } But root.canWrite() seems to be returning false everytime. I am not running this off of an emulator, I have my android Eris plugged into my computer via USB and running the app off of my phone via Eclipse. Is there a way of giving my app permission so this doesn't happen? Also, this code seems to be create the file default.txt but what if it already exists, will it ignore the creation and just open it to write or do I have to catch something like FileAlreadyExists(if such an exception exists) which then just opens it and writes? Timer Service in ejb 3.1 - schedule calling timeout problem

Hi Guys, I have created simple example with @Singleton, @Schedule and @Timeout annotations to try if they would solve my problem. The scenario is this: EJB calls 'check' function every 5 secconds, and if certain conditions are met it will create single action timer that would invoke some long running process in asynchronous fashion. (it's sort of queue implementation type of thing). It then continues to check, but as long as long running process is there it won't start another one. JOGL: cannot run java on compiled class file

I am running ubuntu Linux 11.10. I have followed the instructions on the site http://jogamp.org/jogl/www/ and downloaded everything with git to $HOME/jogamp and built everything with ant (although I would have prefered the files installed somewhere under /usr/local). I am trying to run a simple application with JOGL found on the Wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_OpenGL In order to compile the file I had to add: export CLASSPATH.:$HOME/jogamp/jogl/build/jogl/classes in order to compile the code. JBoss deployment throws 'java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file' on Linux?

I thought of posting both the question and the answer for others' knowledge. I deployed a large EAR (contained more than ~1024 jars/wars) on JBoss running with Java 6 on Linux, and the deployment process cried throwing the following exception: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file) at org.jboss.deployment.DeploymentException.rethrowAsDeploymentException(DeploymentException.java:53) at org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer.init(MainDeployer.java:901) at org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer.init(MainDeployer.java:895) at org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer.deploy(MainDeployer.java:809) at org.jboss.deployment.MainDeployer.deploy(MainDeployer.java:782) .... Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.util.zip.ZipException: error in opening zip file at org.jboss.util.file.JarArchiveBrowser.<init>(JarArchiveBrowser.java:74) at org.jboss.util.file.FileProtocolArchiveBrowserFactory.create(FileProtocolArchiveBrowserFactory.java:48) at org.jboss.util.file.ArchiveBrowser.getBrowser(ArchiveBrowser.java:57) at org.jboss.ejb3.EJB3Deployer.hasEjbAnnotation(EJB3Deployer.java:213) .... This was caused by the 'limit of number of open file descriptors' of Linux/Unix operating systems. The default is 1024. You can check the default value using: ulimit -n To increase the number of open file descriptors (say to 2048): ulimit -n 2048 Check the man page of ulimit for more details.

How do I get save (no exclamation point) semantics in an ActiveRecord transaction?

I have two models: Person and Address which I'd like to create in a transaction. That is, I want to try to create the Person and, if that succeeds, create the related Address. I would like to use save semantics (return true or false) rather than save! semantics (raise an ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid or not). This doesn't work because the user.save doesn't trigger a rollback on the transaction: class Person def save_with_address(address_options = {}) transaction do self.save address = Address.build(address_options) address.person = self address.save end end end (Changing the self.save call to an if self.save block around the rest doesn't help, because the Person save still succeeds even when the Address one fails.) And this doesn't work because it raises the ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid exception out of the transaction block without triggering an ActiveRecord::Rollback: class Person def save_with_address(address_options = {}) transaction do save! address = Address.build(address_options) address.person = self address.save! end end end The Rails documentation specifically warns against catching the ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid inside the transaction block. I guess my first question is: why isn't this transaction block... transacting on both saves?

How do I authenticate regarding EJB3 Container ?

I have my business classes protected by EJB3 security annotations, now I would like to call these methods from a Spring controller, how do I do it? edit I will add some information about my setup, I'm using Tomcat for the webcontainer and OpenEJB for embedding EJB into tomcat. I did not settle on any version of spring so it's more or less open to suggestions. edit current setup works this way : I have a login form + controller that puts a User pojo inside SessionContext. Each time someone access a secured part of the site, the application checks for the User pojo, if it's there check roles and then show the page, if it's not show a appropriate message or redirect to login page. Android, how to use DexClassLoader to dynamically replace an Activity or Service

I am trying to do something similar to this stackoverflow posting. What I want to do is to read the definition of an activity or service from the SD card. To avoid manifest permission issues, I create a shell version of this activity in the .apk, but try to replace it with an activity of the same name residing on the SD card at run time. Unfortunately, I am able to load the activity class definition from the SD card using DexClassLoader, but the original class definition is the one that is executed. Is there a way to specify that the new class definition replaces the old one, or any suggestions on avoiding the manifest permission issues without actually providing the needed activity in the package?
