• Switch Hosts With Gmail Account Attached

  Hi, I am transferring a client from their old host to my new one. Their domain-based gmail/apps account was connected to their old host, so when I changed the domain's name servers to the new host, naturally the gmail account stopped working. So I added the 7 MX records tho the new host's DNS and verified I own the domain on the new host's FTP but the email still isn't working. Is there something I'm missing? I added the MX records to the new host about two hours ago, is it possible it just takes longer than that? Also, outgoing mail seems to work. Members of the domain can't receive email though, just sends back an error. Thanks, Wade

• I'm hoping to start an online supermarket and needs advice on open source shopping cart software and applications..

  I have been researching on both open source software and off-the-shelf software for an online supermarket project in Africa. I have now narrowed by search to X-cart and the PHP based PrestaShop shopping carts. My plan is to acquire an open source shopping cart either by purchasing or as a free open source cart and hire a local developer to customize it to our local needs. I have been doing the demo for x-cart for three weeks now and had thought it might work best for us but after going through the 600 page manual and I'm concerned with how far it can be localized. Yesterday i was looking at the possible Prestashop free open source cart and i seem to like the back-end. Didn't like the back-end for Magento much but from reviews conducted by third-parties they seem to recommend it. I'm now wondering whether i should have a developer start the whole project from scratch, or use an open source software such us PrestaShop or get x-cart which can then be customized. Note that my store will have thousands of products and services including groceries and so i want something that can handle upto 500,000 products and over. Kindly advice. 93276

• Almost time to hit the road again

  I’ve had a few months of not much traveling, but now that the weather is improving… conference season is starting up again. That means it’s time for me to start hitting the road. In June, I have Tech Ed 2010 in New Orleans, LA. I lived in New Orleans for several years, both as military and civilian and I have a few friends still down there. I haven’t been there since before Hurricane Katrina, so I have mixed feelings about returning… but I am still looking forward to it. Also in June, I have Codestock in Knoxville, TN. Codestock is one of my favorite events, primarily because of the excellent people that speak there and also attend sessions. It’s a great mix of people and technologies. Sometime in July or August, I’m headed to Austin, TX for a couple days. I don’t know the exact date yet, but if you have an event down there in that timeframe, let me know and maybe we can sort something out. In September, I’m heading to Seattle for my first PAX (Penny Arcade Expo.)  I’m going strictly as an attendee and it looks like a LOT of fun. Really excited to check it out. Also in September, I’m headed to Omaha for the Heartland Developers Conference. This is a FANTASTIC event, and certainly one of my local favorites. (I guess local is relative, it’s about a 6 hour drive.) In addition to speaking on WP7, I’ll be doing a series of hands on labs on XNA they day before the conference starts, so that should be a lot of fun as well.   In addition to all this stuff, I have my own XNA User Group to take care of. In August, Andy “The Z-Man” Dunn is coming to speak and check out the various food on a stick offerings at the Minnesota State Fair!

• Fake domain doesn't resolve when offline

  I have a flimsy grasp of DNS. Nonetheless, in order to install a local development copy of Wordpress MU, I needed to create a fake domain, which I called local.dev. It and all subdomains simply resolve to 127.0.0.1. Apache then directs to the correct folder. I installed PowerDNS, and got it working properly with a MySQL backend. I didn't feel comfortable, but since it worked, I didn't ask any more questions. The bizarre thing is it requires an internet connection to resolve correctly, and now I need to use it offline. If I am offline, Chrome provies the error: Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found. If you need more information, I am happy to provide it.

• Drupal + Lighttpd: enabling clean urls (rewriting)

  I'm emulating Ubuntu on my mac, and I use it as a server. I've installed lighttpd + Drupal and the following configuration section requires a domain name in order to make clean urls to work. • Touchpad in Sony Vaio E14 - cannot click with a finger and drag with another - Ubuntu 12.04

• Has programming ruined your perception of round numbers?

  Most of the world works in base 10 nowadays, but as programmers working on binary systems, we constantly find ourselves working with powers of 2. While most people consider integer multiples of powers of 10 "nice and round" and somehow aesthetically superior, I found early on in my programming adventures that multiples of powers of 2 feel much more intuitively round to me: fewer factors, of course. I'm much more likely to lay out a Web site using, say, 8- or 16-pixel margins rather than 10 or 20, and when someone remarks that 128 is an insanely arbitrary number of ounces to be in a gallon, I have to smile a little inside at how, just perhaps, the U.S. system might be superior to metric in one small way. I'm just curious: has programming ruined (read: altered) your perception of the roundness of a number?

• Cacti is not monitoring the correct host... How do I change SNMP target?

  I have been handed a Cacti server that monitors a few hosts. I noticed that three of the targets were displaying the exact same data - the cacti machine, machine a and machine b. After doing a bit of digging, I noticed that machine a and machine b had "Local Linux Machine" set under "Host Template". I have since changed the host template to "Generic SNMP-enabled Host", however, all the graphs still only display data from the local cacti machine (Updates every 5 minutes - I changed this yesterday - 12 hours). I can't think what else is wrong and was wondering if anyone knows/can recommend anything?

• Sometimes keyboard & touchpad work... sometimes not

  When I first ran Ubuntu from CD on this Dell Inspiron 2650, it worked for about ten to fifteen minutes, then it hung (I was probably trying to do too much at once from a Live CD). The next time, my mouse and keyboard didn't work. I rebooted three times and finally got them working. I then installed Ubuntu alongside Windows XP. After installing, selecting the OS in GRUB worked, but my touchpad and keyboard were again not working. I rebooted, and they worked. (I fortunately had a USB mouse with which to reboot.) Booting Ubuntu and then rebooting to enable my keyboard and touchpad has become a routine ever since. Often several reboots are required; at one point I had to reboot over a dozen times in a row before getting a session where everything worked properly. (My installation has been in place for about three days a week now.) I've looked around for a device manager equivalent to no avail. Sometimes the hardware is properly detected, and sometimes it's not. Once or twice I've had the keyboard detected properly but the touchpad not. Plugging in my wireless card also sometimes requires a plug, unplug, and plug again to get it working. So is there some solution? I'm without an Internet connection at home, and this "laptop" is really a wall wart on my desk, so suggestions for packages may take a while to test. Xorg logs I captured two three four sample Xorg logs: one from a startup where the devices worked; one from when they didn't; one from a session where Ubuntu thought my touchpad was a normal mouse; and one from a session where my keyboard worked but the touchpad didn't. • How do I fix gnome shell themes?

  This is my fifth full format and install of Ubuntu in under a month. I finally have my Gnome 3 desktop working again, but again, the Gnome shell themes is not select-able. I have asked the question of how to fix this common issue before, but I have seen no positive resolution. Does anybody know of a simple fix? This is a common issue and I have seen hundreds of postings related to it, but other users only seem to get half-way answers also and it goes unresolved. Would it be advisable to completely purge Gnome desktop and reinstall? If so how would I do this? I cannot use any extensions if the shell is not working, so I am desperately seeking resolution for the issue. Thanks in advance.

• Cisco PIX 515 doesn't seem to be passing traffic through according to static route

  Ok, so I am having a spot of bother with a Cisco PIX515, I have posted the current running config below, now I am no cisco expert by any means although I can do basic stuff with them, now I am having trouble with traffic sent from the outside to address: 10.75.32.25 it just doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Now this firewall is deep inside a private network, with an upstream firewall that we don't manage. I have spoken to the people that look after that firewall and they say they they have traffic routing to 10.75.32.21 and 10.75.32.25 and thats it (although there is a website that runs from the server 172.16.102.5 which (if my understanding is correct) gets traffic via 10.75.32.23. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as to me it should all just work, but its not (obviously if the config is all correct then there could be a problem with the web server that we are trying to • Has anyone managed to install Office Webapps on SharePoint 2010, on Windows 7 ?

  I've installed SharePoint 2010 as a development environment on my Windows 7 x64 environment (notes here) and would like to install Office Web Apps onto it also. However, when trying to install (following this link), I get an error saying that Web roles aren't installed. The error message in the log file is: Start C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML Error: Failed to start process for file: C:\Windows\system32\ServerManagerCmd.exe arguments: -whatif -inputpath C:\Users\nickh\AppData\Local\Temp\PRE1.tmp.XML ErrorCode: 2(0x2). Which is effectively saying that ServerManagerCmd is not found. It isn't on my machine as it is deprecated and replaced by Powershell functions, but is on Server 2008 R2. I've tried copying that over and it just fails to run. Is there a way to get Office WebApps installed on Win7 ? Is there a way to get a working version of ServerManagerCmd.exe on a Windows 7 x64 environment ? Many thanks

• Getting the Dell XPS 16 Synaptics touchpad to work after hibernation in Ubuntu.

  I am currently experimenting with using Ubuntu as a my main OS instead of Windows 7. So far, pretty much everything is working fine, except for an issue that I am having with my touchpad. I have a Dell XPS 16 (1640) with a Synaptics touchpad. It works out of the box, but it seems that it stops working after returning from hibernation mode. This problem has also been addressed in an earlier bug, but judging from this bugreport, it should be fixed by now. I am running the 2.6.35-23-generic-pae kernel. Any ideas?

• Broadcom 4365 wireless driver with 3.4 / 3.5 kernel

  I used this package to install the driver on 3.2 Kernel and it was working perfectly. Unfortunately the system used to freeze randomly with 3.2 kernel so I installed 3.4 kernel, now there is no freezing, the only problem is that my wifi card is not working, I tried to re-install the package, but didn't work. I can see the driver in the "additional drivers" and it say that it is active, but when I execute iwconfig it doesn't show up. I've even tried ndiswraper and that didn't work either. my lspci: 01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 4365 (rev 01)

  Hello postgre experts. I am completely new to the game but need the following: I Create a new role with login. Let's say: User1 I then create a Database 'User1Database' and set User1 as the owner. User1 has no rights to do anything except for access. Now when I connect using User1 it somehow has access to all databases. I then learned I neeed to write something in here. User1 should have global access to User1Database and absolutely no access to anything else. What lines do I need to add to my pg_hba file?   Hi, I am working on a site that has the following structure: site.com/us - us version site.com/uk - uk version site.com/jp - Japanese version etc. I would like to create a robots.txt that points the local search engines to a localized sitemap page and has them exclude everything else from the local listings. So, google.com (us) will index ONLY site.com/us and take in consideration site.com/us/sitemap.html google.co.uk will index only site.com/uk and site.com/uk/sitemap.html Same for the rest of the search engines, including Yahoo, Bing etc. Any idea on how to achieve this?   I've been trying to get Windows 7 to make a backup for a week or so. I'm backing up to a local NAS and I'm getting this error: Windows Backup: Troubleshooting Options Check your backup Windows Backup could not create a zip file. This could be because the drive that Windows is installed on does not have enough space or it could be a temporary error. Make sure you have at least 400 MB of free space and try again. • How to go about scheduling a task in windows 7 to change wireless connection

  This may or not be something that can be done. I cannot find anything on the wireless connection manager built into windows 7 let alone methods for passing params into it. Problem is as follows: I have 2 wireless routers. One provides internet access, the other provides sole access to the local network. Every day at 4am the main system creates a backup in 2 locations. One is a External usb drive, the other is a location on the network. This is all cool if it is remembered to change over to the local network router before leaving. But if it is forgotten the roof will collapse, the walls will burn, and I will be... well you get the idea. Solution: there is already a custom event that fires a automated backup program at 4am everyday. I need someway to force the wireless network to use the correct connection at say 3:58am everyday. Any ideas????

  Having previously detailed how to install MySQL Server, the next step is configuring MySQL. The MySQL configuration wizard can either be run immediately following installation from the MySQL installation wizard or manually from the Start Menu. Following the splash screen you can then choose whether to run a detailed or standard configuration. The detailed configuration allows you to create the optimal configuration for your specific machine, whereas the standard configuration creates a general configuration that can then be manually tuned. I chose detailed.   You are then asked to choose the type of server instance that is being configured. In this case it is a developer machine. Following this you are asked to choose the type of database usage that you expect on the server. I opted for multifunctional. You must then specify the location of the InnoDB tablespace.   Next specify the number of concurent connections to the server.   Now you must configure the networking options. I left the Strict mode enabled as this is the recommended option, but I disabled TCP/IP networking as I wanted to restrict this MySQL installation to the local machine only.   Set the character set that is best suited to your use - for me this was the default standard character set. Next up is the option to run MySQL as a service and whether or not to include the mysql dircetories in the windows PATH. I kept the install as a windows service option enabled, but unchecked the Launch MySQL server automatically option. This is because I only wanted MySQL running when I specifically want to use it. I also enabled the include in windows PATH option.   You can then change the security settings for the mysql installation. I opted to change the root password, disable root from local machines and disable annoymous access.   You are now ready to execute the configuration.   Once completed you should hopefully see the completed screen with lots of nice ticks against the various configuration tasks.

  This is easily done for a single file type, as answered in How to associate a file type within Wine with a native application?, by creating a .reg for the desired filetype. But this is for AVI only. I use some wine apps (uTorrent, Soulseek, Eudora, to name a few) that can launch a wide range of files. Email attachments, for example, can be JPG, DOC, PDF, PPS... its impossible (and not desirable) to track down all possible file types that one may receive in an email or download in a torrent. So I neeed a solution to be more generic and broad. I need the file association to honor whatever native app is currently configured. And I want this to be done for all file types configured in my system. I've already figured out how to make the solution generic. Simply replacing the launched app in .reg for winebrowser, like this: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf] @="PDFfile" "Content Type"="application/pdf" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PDFfile\Shell\Open\command] @="C:\\windows\\system32\\winebrowser.exe \"%1\"" Ive tested this and it works correctly. Since winebrowser uses xdg-open as a backend, and converts my windows path to a Unix one, the correct (Linux) app is launched. So I need a "batch" updater to wine's registry, sort of a wine-update-associations script that I can run whenever a new app is installed. Maybe a tool that can: List all Mime Types types in my system that have a default, installed app associated Extract all the needed info (glob, mime type, etc) Generate the .REG file in the above format The tricky part is: i've searched a LOT to find info about how association is done in Ubuntu 10.10 onwards, and documentation is scarce and confusing, to say the least. Freedesktop.org has no complete spec, and even Gnome docs are obsolete. So far I've gathered 4 files that contain association info, but im clueless on which (or why) to use, or how to use them to generate the .reg file: ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list ~/.local/share/applications/miminfo.cache /usr/share/applications/miminfo.cache /etc/gnome/defaults.list Any help, script or explanation would be greatly appreciated!   I have been working as a java/j2ee developer in a mnc from past 2 years. I have worked on javascript,jsp,struts,html,css on the 1st project. Now I am working on javascript/xsl/Adobe Flex in current project for 6 months. I am getting calls for java/flex developer from jobsites. Recently got a call for a Javascript/HTML5 developer. Is it a good option compared to Adobe Flex in current project? Please guide me among these technologies which will take my career in right direction and good growth which keeps in demand.

• Coda-like experience for Ubuntu

  I'm a web developer who's going to transition from using Mac OS X to Ubuntu. I've been using Coda for some time, only because it makes web development easy. I know a full fledged app isn't available for Linux, but would like to know about apps that specialize in the same tasks that Coda offers. I plan on switching to Vim for code editing, I'm extremely proficient and will install the Janus plugin and be good to go for editing code. One thing that makes editing on Coda so amazing is its extremely good at SFTP, you can drag and drop files and/or folders from your local drive to the server. Also, you can edit code directly on the server. The problem here, is that using Vim I don't know of a way to edit code on a remote server, while using my own Vim settings and plugins. To solve this, I would like to know of a good SFTP client OR a good SFTP CLI. A CLI that could synchronize your files after a file has been modified would be perfect, but not necessary. Now, one of the biggest and best features of Coda is its ability to view your databases. You get to create a database, create tables, add stuff, delete stuff and view the contents of the table (all this without writing a single SQL statement). I will admit that databases are my weak point, but is a very important part of my job. If there is a tool that specializes in databases would be perfect. I wouldn't prefer to use the command line for database stuff, but if there is a CLI for databases that I'm missing could potentially be useful. So I guess I'm asking for two things. A tool that makes databases easier to visualize and a tool that assists in pushing my local code to a server.
