• WPF CommandParameter is NULL first time CanExecute is called

  I have run into an issue with WPF and Commands that are bound to a Button inside the DataTemplate of an ItemsControl. The scenario is quite straight forward. The ItemsControl is bound to a list of objects, and I want to be able to remove each object in the list by clicking a Button. The Button executes a Command, and the Command takes care of the deletion. The CommandParameter is bound to the Object I want to delete. That way I know what the user clicked. A user should only be able to delete their "own" objects - so I need to do some checks in the "CanExecute" call of the Command to verify that the user has the right permissions. The problem is that the parameter passed to CanExecute is NULL the first time it's called - so I can't run the logic to enable/disable the command. However, if I make it allways enabled, and then click the button to execute the command, the CommandParameter is passed in correctly. So that means that the binding against the CommandParameter is working. The XAML for the ItemsControl and the DataTemplate looks like this: <ItemsControl x:Name="commentsList" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=SharedDataItemPM.Comments}" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Button Content="Delete" FontSize="10" Command="{Binding Path=DataContext.DeleteCommentCommand, ElementName=commentsList}" CommandParameter="{Binding}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> So as you can see I have a list of Comments objects. I want the CommandParameter of the DeleteCommentCommand to be bound to the Command object. So I guess my question is: have anyone experienced this problem before? CanExecute gets called on my Command, but the parameter is always NULL the first time - why is that? Update: I was able to narrow the problem down a little. I added an empty Debug ValueConverter so that I could output a message when the CommandParameter is data bound. Turns out the problem is that the CanExecute method is executed before the CommandParameter is bound to the button. I have tried to set the CommandParameter before the Command (like suggested) - but it still doesn't work. Any tips on how to control it. Update2: Is there any way to detect when the binding is "done", so that I can force re-evaluation of the command? Also - is it a problem that I have multiple Buttons (one for each item in the ItemsControl) that bind to the same instance of a Command-object? I tried removing the for loop setting i = 0. The problem doesn't occur anymore. It reaches teh end of the method by adding only one object in the array. The problem only occurs if there's a for loop. In the catch statement, even with the error, I can see that the array is filled properly and the [gameOffer Title] and [gameOffer Description] have the correct values. Thanks so much for your help.

• ASP.NET 3.5 GridView - row editing - dynamic binding to a DropDownList

  This is driving me crazy :-) I'm trying to get a ASP.NET 3.5 GridView to show a selected value as string when being displayed, and to show a DropDownList to allow me to pick a value from a given list of options when being edited. Seems simple enough? No surprise there. I load the list of values for the DropDownList into a local member called _pbxTypes in the OnLoad event of the form. I verified this - it works, the values are there. Now my challenge is: when the grid goes into editing mode for a particular row, I need to bind the list of PBX's stored in _pbxTypes. • iPhone UIButton addTarget:action:forControlEvents: not working

  I see there are similar problems posted here, but none of the solutions work for me. Here goes: I have a UIButton instance inside a UIView frame, which is positioned within another UIView frame, which is positioned in the main window UIView. To wit: UIWindow --> UIView (searchView) --> UISearchBar (findField) --> UIView (prevButtonView) --> UIButton (prevButton) --> UIView (nextButtonView) --> UIButton (nextButton) So far, so good: everything is laid out as I want it. However, the buttons aren't accepting user input of any kind. I am using the UIButton method addTarget:action:forControlEvents: and to give you an idea of what I'm doing, here's my code for nextButton: nextButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; [nextButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"find_next_on.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [nextButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"find_next_off.png"] forState:UIControlStateDisabled]; [nextButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"find_next_off.png"] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted]; [nextButton addTarget:self action:@selector(nextResult:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; The method nextResult: never gets called, the state of the button doesn't change on touching, and there's not a damned thing I've been able to do to get it working. I assume that there's an issue with all these layers of views: maybe something is sitting on top of my button, but I'm not sure what it could be. • WPF: Menu Items only bind command parameters once.

  Ive noticed this a couple of times when using menus with commands, they are not very dynamic, check this out. I am creating a menu from a collection of colours, I use it to colour a column in a datagrid. Anyway when i first bring up the menu (its a context menu) the command parameter binding happens and it binds to the column that the context menu was opened on. However the next time i bring it up it seems wpf caches the menu and it doesnt rebind the command parameter. so i can set the colour only on the initial column that the context menu appeared on. • iPhone OpenGL ES: How do I use gravity vector to correctly transform scene for augmented reality

  I'm trying figure out how to get an OpenGL specified object to be displayed correctly according to the device orientation (ie. according to the gravity vector from the accelerometer, and heading from compass). The GLGravity sample project has an example which is almost like this (despite ignoring heading), but it has some glitches. For example, the teapot jumps 180deg as the device viewing angle crosses the horizon, and it also rotates spuriously if you tilt the device from portrait into landscape. This is fine for the context of this app, as it just shows off an object and it doesn't matter that it does these things. But it means that the code just doesn't work when you attempt to emulate real life viewing of an OpenGL object according to the device's orientation. What happens is that it almost works, but the heading rotation you apply from the compass gets "corrupted" by the spurious additional rotations seen in the GLGravity example project. • WPF Focus In Tab Control Content When New Tab is Created

  I've done a lot of searching on SO and google around this problem, but can't seem to find anything else to try. I have a MainView (window) that contains a tab control. The tab control binds to an ObservableCollection of ChildViews (user controls). The MainView's ViewModel has a method that allows adding to the collection of ChildViews, which then creates a new tab. When a new tab is created, it becomes the active tab, and this works fine. This method on the MainView is called from another ViewModel (OtherViewModel). What I am trying to do is set the keyboard focus to the first control on the tab (an AutoCompleteBox from WPFToolkit*) when a new tab is created. I also need to set the focus the same way, but WITHOUT creating a new tab (so set the focus on the currently active tab). (*Note that there seem to be some focus problems with the AutoCompleteBox--even if it does have focus you need to send a MoveNext() to it to get the cursor in its window. I have worked around this already). So here's the problem. The focusing works when I don't create a new tab, but it doesn't work when I do create a new tab. Both functions use the same method to set focus, but the create logic first calls the method that creates a new tab and sets it to active. Code that sets the focus (in the ChildView's Codebehind): IInputElement element1 = Keyboard.Focus(autoCompleteBox); //plus code to deal with AutoCompleteBox as noted. In either case, the Keyboard.FocusedElement starts out as the MainView. After a create, calling Keyboard.Focus seems to do nothing (focused element is still the MainView). Calling this without creating a tab correctly sets the keyboard focus to autoCompleteBox. Any ideas? Update: Bender's suggestion half-worked. So now in both cases, the focused element is correctly the AutoCompleteBox. What I then do is MoveNext(), which sets the focus to a TextBox. I have been assuming that this Textbox is internal to the AutoCompleteBox, as the focus was correctly set on screen when this happened. Now I'm not so sure. This is still the behavior I see when this code gets hit when NOT doing a create. After a create, MoveNext() sets the focus to an element back in my MainView. The problem must still be along the lines of Bender's answer, where the state of the controls is not the same depending on whether a new tab was created or not. Any other thoughts?

[HttpPost] public ActionResult ReportByRange(ReportViewModel viewModel) { Period reportPeriod = viewModel.ReportPeriod; // this is null } I expected MVC would try to set the string from the textbox to that property and it would automatically generate a Period (as in my FormCollection example), but it's not. How do I tell the textbox I've generated in the custom editor to poplate that property on the model?

  What am I trying to do: export data to csv. I have a form which allows user to select the format (from a drop down menu). So based on the selection of the format the ouput is displayed using a ajax call. Works fine for html but when I select the format as csv I don't see any pop up on the screen (asking to save or open the file) and neither any file gets downloaded directly. I tried using Fastercsv (but the problem is that I don't see any pop up asking me whether I want to save or open the file) and CSV::Writer where I get this error message on the console. NoMethodError (You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! • .Net Crystal Report printing application running on termianal service connection errors when session

  I have created a .Net application to run on an App Server that gets requests for a report and prints out the requested report. The C# application uses Crystal Reports to load the report and subsequently print it out. The application is run on Server which is connected to via a Remote Desktop connection under a particular user account (required for old apps). When I disconnect from the Remote Session the application starts raising exceptions such as: Message: CrystalDecisions.Shared.CrystalReportsException: Load report failed This type of error is never raised when the Remote Session is active. The server running the app is running Windows Server 2003, my box which creates the connection is Windows XP. I appreciate this is fairly weird, however I cannot see any problem with the application deployment I have created. Does anyone know what could be cause this issue? EDIT: I bit the bullet and created the application as a windows service, obviously this doesn't take long I just wasn't convinced it would solve the problem. Anyway it doesn't!!! I have also tried removing the multi-thread code that was calling the print function asynchronously. I did this in order to simply the app and narrow down the reason it could fail. Anyway, this didn't improve the situation either! • iPhone App IDs and Provisioning... Does App ID get used instead of provisioning ID if I decide to us

  This is a question that has been bugging me for a while. I started my app (now submitted -- not yet approved) not wishing to get into the mess that is APNS (Push). I did the following: iPhone Developer Center: Provisioning Portal-Provisioning: Then I created a Development and a Distribution Provisioning Profile. I installed both in XCode. Everything hunky dory. The Development profile scares me a bit by expiring so soon (90 days) but I can remove it from the iPhone(s) and sign it with a new one later. I tested using the Development profile, and later to submitted it by signing it with the Distribution profile. I then uploaded the Distribution profile-signed app to iTunesConnect (app store). Okay, I understand that much. Now, what I don't understand is this: Now that I understand the theories and methods behind how Push works, I am wishing to add it to my app. I already went under: iPhone Developer Center: Provisioning Portal-App IDs: and created a Development Provisioning Profile and Distribution Provisioning Profile there (push & in-app purchase enabled). Here is where it gets confusing to me. All the books and docs I have read say that I have to sign the app with this "App ID" provisioning profile (push-enabled) from now on. Does that mean I no longer ever use the previously created provisioning profiles? If I were to import these "App ID" provisioning profiles into Xcode they will exist alongside my previously generated "non-push" profiles. ~/Library/Mobile Devices/Provisioning Profiles now has 2 files. One Devel and one Distrib. It will now have 4 even though for this app I will not use the "non-push" anymore right? (actually, since they are locked by using bundle-codes and app ids i will never use it again if all of my further versions of this app use Push?) Confused. Can anyone enlighten me? Why not use the "App ID" profiles in the first place for everyone -- even if you are not gonna use push? Would keep it simpler. Should I only generate "Push Enabled" profiles from now on -- even if i am not sure I am gonna use push (or for that matter in-app purchase)? Please give me some insight.   Here is my DataList: <asp:DataList id="DataList" Visible="false" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" Width="100%" HorizontalAlign="Justify" RepeatLayout="Flow" runat="server"> [Contents Removed] </asp:DataList> This generates markup that has each item wrapped in a span. From there, I'd like to break each of these spans out into rows of three columns. Ideally I would like something like this: <div> <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> </div> <div> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> </div> [etc] The closest I can get to this is to set RepeatColumns to "3" and then a <br> is inserted after every three items in the DataList. <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> <br> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> <br> This gets me kind of close, but really doesn't do the trick - I still can't control the layout the way I'd like to be able to. Can anyone suggest a way to make this better? If I could implement the above example - that would be perfect, however I'd accept a less elegant solution as well - as long as its more flexible than <br> (such as inserting a <span class="clear"></span> instead of <br>).

• ASP.NET MVC 2: Updating a Linq-To-Sql Entity with an EntitySet

  I have a Linq to Sql Entity which has an EntitySet. In my View I display the Entity with it's properties plus an editable list for the child entites. The user can dynamically add and delete those child entities. The DefaultModelBinder works fine so far, it correctly binds the child entites. Now my problem is that I just can't get Linq To Sql to delete the deleted child entities, it will happily add new ones but not delete the deleted ones. I have enabled cascade deleting in the foreign key relationship, and the Linq To Sql designer added the "DeleteOnNull=true" attribute to the foreign key relationships. If I manually delete a child entity like this: myObject.Childs.Remove(child); context.SubmitChanges(); This will delete the child record from the DB. But I can't get it to work for a model binded object. I tried the following: // this does nothing public ActionResult Update(int id, MyObject obj) // obj now has 4 child entities { var obj2 = _repository.GetObj(id); // obj2 has 6 child entities if(TryUpdateModel(obj2)) //it sucessfully updates obj2 and its childs { _repository.SubmitChanges(); // nothing happens, records stay in DB } else ..... return RedirectToAction("List"); } and this throws an InvalidOperationException, I have a german OS so I'm not exactly sure what the error message is in english, but it says something along the lines of that the entity needs a Version (Timestamp row?) or no update check policies. I have set UpdateCheck="Never" to every column except the primary key column. public ActionResult Update(MyObject obj) { _repository.MyObjectTable.Attach(obj, true); _repository.SubmitChanges(); // never gets here, exception at attach } I've read alot about similar "problems" with Linq To Sql, but it seems most of those "problems" are actually by design. So am I right in my assumption that this doesn't work like I expect it to work? Do I really have to manually iterate through the child entities and delete, update and insert them manually? For such a simple object this may work, but I plan to create more complex objects with nested EntitySets and so on. This is just a test to see what works and what not. So far I'm disappointed with Linq To Sql (maybe I just don't get it). Would be the Entity Framework or NHibernate a better choice for this scenario? Or would I run into the same problem?

• ASP Classic Session Variable Not Always Getting Set

  I have a classic ASP site I'm maintaining and recently we wanted to do special rendering actions if the visitor was coming from one specific set of websites. So in the page where those visitors have to come through to get to our site, I put a simple line setting a session variable: <!-- #include virtual="/clsdbAccess.cs"--> <% set db = new dbAccess %> <html> <head> ... <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> ... </script> </head> <body> <% Session("CAME_FROM_NEWSPAPER") = "your local newspaper" ... %> ... html stuff ... </body> </html> Then, in all the following pages, whenever I need to put up nav links, menus, etc., that we don't want to show to those visitors, I test for if that session variable is "" or not, then render accordingly. My problem is that it seems to work great for me in development, then I get it out into Production and it works great sometimes, and other times it doesn't work at all. Sometimes the session variable gets set, sometimes it doesn't. Everything else works great. But our client is seeing inconsistent results on pages rendered to their visitors and this is a problem. I've tried logging on from different PC's and I confirm that I get different, and unpredictable, results. The problem is I can't reproduce it at will, and I can't troubleshoot/trace Production. For now I've solved this by just creating duplicate pages with the special rendering, and making sure those visitors go there. But this is a hack and will eventually be difficult to maintain. Is there something special or inconsistent about session variables in Classic ASP? Is there a better way to approach the problem? TIA.

  Hey all, I'm using Selenium Webdriver to do some robottesting. Since some functions appear to only work in Firefox, I'm obligated to use Firefoxdriver. Now and then, something weird happens. Starting up te driver driver = new FirefoxDriver(); driver.get(URL); gets firefox to startup but not to go to the specified url. The strange thing is that it works on another computer with the same preferences set in Firefox. I solved this problem once by changing to another version of firefox, but this time this doesn't do the trick for me, it did however worked for the other developers. Yes, the error started for all developers on the same time, same day... My first question is: is it a firefox problem or Webdriver problem. • Why is drawing to OnPaint graphics faster than image graphics?

  I'm looking for a way to speed up the drawing of my game engine, which is currently the significant bottleneck, and is causing slowdowns. I'm on the verge of converting it over to XNA, but I just noticed something. Say I have a small image that I've loaded. Image img = Image.FromFile("mypict.png"); We have a picturebox on the screen we want to draw on. So we have a handler. pictureBox1.Paint += new PaintEventHandler(pictureBox1_Paint); I want our loaded image to be tiled on the picturebox (this is for a game, after all). I've set properties of g to match e.Graphics - things like InterpolationMode, CompositingQuality, etc, but nothing I do bridges this incredible gap in performance. I can't find any difference between the two Graphics objects. What gives? My test with a System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch says that the first code snippet runs at about 7100 fps, while the second runs at a measly 280 fps. My reference image is VS2010ImageLibrary\Objects\png_format\WinVista\SecurityLock.png, which is 48x48 px, and which I modified to be 72 dpi instead of 96, but those made no difference either.

  Does anyone know how best to determine the specific underlying cause of this exception? Consider a WCF service that is supposed to use Powershell 2.0 remoting to execute MSBuild on remote machines. In both cases the scripting environments are being called in-process (via C# for Powershell and via Powershell for MSBuild), rather than 'shelling-out' - this was a specific design decision to avoid command-line hell as well as to enable passing actual objects into the Powershell script. • Right-click context menu for Java JTree?

  I'm trying to implement pop-up menus in Java JTree. I've sub-classed DefaultTreeCellRenderer (to change node appearance) and DefaultTreeCellEditor (to create Components to attach event listeners to, since apparently the Components that DefaultTreeCellRenderer.getTreeCellRendererComponent() returns can't do it?). I don't really want to "edit" the nodes, just be able to pop-up a menu when a node gets right-clicked, but this is the only way I can think of doing it right now... Below is the code that I have so far-- I'm just trying to figure out how to capture MouseEvents. It sort of works, but badly. • How do I use the gravity vector to correctly transform scene for augmented reality?

  I'm trying figure out how to get an OpenGL specified object to be displayed correctly according to the device orientation (ie. according to the gravity vector from the accelerometer, and heading from compass). The GLGravity sample project has an example which is almost like this (despite ignoring heading), but it has some glitches. For example, the teapot jumps 180deg as the device viewing angle crosses the horizon, and it also rotates spuriously if you tilt the device from portrait into landscape. This is fine for the context of this app, as it just shows off an object and it doesn't matter that it does these things. But it means that the code just doesn't work when you attempt to emulate real life viewing of an OpenGL object according to the device's orientation. What happens is that it almost works, but the heading rotation you apply from the compass gets "corrupted" by the spurious additional rotations seen in the GLGravity example project. • In Email, Image (img) Source (src) Tags are rewritten as relative links. How to fix?

  I'm working on sending out an html based email, and every time it sends the image src tags and some of the anchor href tags are modified to be relative url's. Update 2: This is happening between when the body of the email is generated and sent and when it arrives in my inbox. Update: I am using Postfix on a LAMPP server. In addition, I am using Zend_Mail to send the emails out. • Transactions in codeigniter with multiple tables.

  Hey SO, I'm new to transactions in general, but especially with CodeIgniter. I'm using InnoDB and everything, but my transactions aren't rolling back when I want them to. It should roll back at that final trans_rollback right before the commit. My models are all on the "dog" database, so I think that the transaction would carry into the models' functions. Maybe you just can't use models like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  What is the minimum set of steps required to use LODSB to load a relative address to a string in my code? I have the following test program that I'm using PXE to boot. I boot it two ways: via pxelinux.0 and directly. If I boot it directly, my program prints both strings. If I boot via pxelinux.0, it only prints the first string. Why? Working technique (for both): Set the direction flag to increment, cld Set ds to cs Put the address (from start) of string in si Add the starting offset to si Non-working technique (just for pxelinux): Calculate a new segment address based on (((cs << 4) + offset) >> 4) Set ds to that.
