• Remote Desktop, Host: 2008, Client: Windows 7, The remote computer requires Network Level Authentica

  Hi, today I accidently changed one option of Teminal Services, I checked "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication". After that, I can't connect to my server any more. The error says: The remote computer requires Network Level Authentication, which your computer does not support. But my client pcs(both home and at office) are running Windows 7, as far as I know, it shoud support NLA; And in About dialog of Remote Desktop Connection there says "Supports Network Level Authentication". My server is running Windows Server 2008, placed in IDC center; I could connect to it before I change the settings. All other sevices(like IIS, SQL Server) are running normally. For clients, I tried two PCs running Windows 7, and two virtual windows XP machine running in Virtual PC and Virtual Box, all of them gives the same error message. Is there a way I can make things right without go to IDC which is far away? Thanks.

• User Profile cannot be loaded - Windows 7

  After uninstalling an HP Vector Mouse driver, then rebooting, when Windows tries to auto log me in, i get an error message saying tyhe following: The User Profile Service failed the Login. User Profile cannot be loaded. Due to the fact that it is the only account on this PC, I cannot even go into another account. I rebooted the machine several times, before going into Safe Mode with Networking. For some reason, I cannot create a new account whilst in safe mode (I think it is to do with UAC, nothing with UAC is clickable). Thus, I am stuck. I cannot get into my account, nor can I create a new one to copy files over to. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Ryan EDIT: System Restore was, for some reason turned off. Thus, I cannot restore to a working point.

• vista server 2008 web edition cant change permissions

  hi there, Im used to using windows server 2003 but decided to get a Vista web edition for IIS7 and to run our MVC applications on. I have installed copSSH that i use for SFTP, and when i upload my files i am unable to change persmissions or take ownership or anything when logged in as an administrator. when i try to go to permissions i get: The permissions on uploads are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective. and all permissions are the grayed out. i have tried to use icacls to reset ownership and also tried to give myself full control through icacls however all attempts are met with a access is denied message and failed processing 669 files. all i wish to do is set up write and delete permissions on an upload folder for a CMS systems admin area, but i am a week into looking into this and i am still no wiser. Please could someone give some sound advice so i can get this running smooth thanks p.s i have added the copSSH notes as i think that when i SFTP the files to the server, this may somehow have some involvement in messing up permissions

  Hi All, Having a strange issue with Windows Explorer on Windows 7 Professional. When I try to open it up under different user credentials, I get the following error message: Results are the same whether I try it from the context menu or by using runas /user:DOMAIN\User explorer.exe However, if I open up a command prompt (using runas.exe) the behavior is a bit different: typing in just explorer or explorer.exe results in the same error. typing in explorer C: or explorer /E,... doesn't run anything. I'm dropped right back to the prompt. explorer process doesn't start. Has anyone seen this behavior before? If so, how can I go about changing it. Thanks.

  I'm trying to install a CentOS OS with kickstart using HTTP as the installation source. The kickstart server and the installed server are both running on VMs on the same machine. after the anaconda system installer starts it fails with the following message: I tried installing two different versions of Centos(5.5 and 5.2), and they both pass a CDROM media test the manual installation provides.   You just sold something on e-bay and now the winner won't pay up.  What do you do?  I'm not sure what the legality of this kind of Social Engineering hack is, but I believe you've got to give it points for elegance.   Here's the link to the lifehacker.com post (I can't find the original Reddit post.) Reddit user "BadgerMatt" (we'll call him Matt for short) recently posted a story about how he tried to sell tickets to a sporting event on eBay, but when the auction was won the winning bidder backed out of the deal. In some cases this is mainly an inconvenience and you can re-list the item, but Matt was selling tickets to a sporting event and no longer had the time to do that. With the losing bidders uninterested in the tickets, he was going to end up stuck with tickets he couldn't use and a deadbeat bidder who was unwilling to honor their contract. Rather than give up, Matt decided to trick her into paying: I created a new eBay account, "Payback" we'll call it, and sent her a message: "Hi there, I noticed you won an auction for 4 [sporting event] tickets. I meant to bid on these but couldn't get to a computer. I wanted to take my son and dad and would be willing to give you $1,000 for the tickets. I imagine that you've already made plans to attend, but I figured it was worth a shot." The woman agreed, but for $1,100. She paid for the auction, received the tickets, and then Matt (of course) never re-purchased them. Needless to say, the woman was angry. Perhaps it was the wrong thing for the right reasons, but I'm mostly jealous I never thought of it back when I still sold things on eBay.

In my Outlook 2010 for Windows 7, I have many many folders. There is one feature I would like to know if it is available or something similar which is on Outlook 2011 for the Mac. On the Outlook 2011 for the mac you can go to: Top Menu Message Move Choose Folder or press (SHIT+CMD "press" M) This bring up a box where you can just type the beginning part of the folder and all the folders with that beginning appears (To search), you select the one you want and the selected emails move to that folder. I hope I have explained it well. Does anyone know if there is a plugin on Outlook 2010 or may I have just missed the function. Thank you

• Resolving System Restore error - Error 0x800423F3 - The writer experienced a transient error

  System restore just stopped working, when I needed it most. (tried diff restore points... same error). Now everytime I run system-restore, it fails with the above error message. I cleared the event logs and retried to isolate the relevant events. I see 5 warnings and 1 info event from VSS and 1 error from System Restore. • Running OLEDB VB6 Windows Progam Under Wine

  I'm trying to install a VB6 Windows program that uses OLEDB to access VFP tables to run under Wine 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 9.10. Wine is configured to Windows version Windows XP. The program install ran okay, and I used winetricks to install MDAC 2.8 and JET 4.0 sp7. I also installed Microsoft's vfpoledb and vfpodbc drivers. The application starts and displays an error message, item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

• Dreamweaver not loading due to workspace file problem

  I went to launch Dreamweaver CS 5.5 and this message popped up: XML parsing fatal error: Invalid document structure, line 1, file C:\Documents...(file path)...Workspace\My Workspace.xml It was followed by The following panel layout is missing or could not be read: C:...My Workspace.xml The application will not have a correct layout. Please load one from WindowsWorkspace After that, Dreamweaver acted as if it was going to load, but never did. When I tried to close the program, it crashed. I followed the file path and I saw two files: My Workspace.xml 0kb and My Workspace 5kb. The second one has an unknown file type. I deleted the first file and renamed the unknown file type to My Workspace.xml; everything worked fine after that point. Why did Dreamweaver do this? This has happened several times, but I have not changed anything that should affect that file type.

• Lots of TIME_WAIT connections in netstat (Windows Server 2008)

  I'm having some issues on a Windows 2008 server with some network connections not going through. For instance, in a web application on the server, we need to open a socket connection to another server, and this fails sometimes with the following message: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted I looked up the error, which led me to this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa560610(v=bts.20).aspx, which indicates that it might be TCP/IP port exhaustion. When I perform netstat -n, I get tons of TIME_WAIT connections on port 80. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

• CakePHP: trouble configuring .htaccess for user directories enabled server

  I've placed the CakePHP files in a directory in /home/user/public_html/cakephp. When I try to reach localhost/~user/cakephp with my browser, there's an error message. In my case, since I'm using Chrome, it is 'Oops! This link appears to be broken.". Looking for a solution on Google, I found a few articles saying that I have to edit the .htaccess files that came with CakePHP, since it was made to work out of the box in /var/www/htdocs. Apparently I have to add a 'RewriteBase' statement to the .htaccess files. I added 'RewriteBase /' to it but it didn't work. If I change the RewriteBase statement in my user web directory to 'RewriteBase /cakephp' and then try to access localhost/~user/cakephp, the browser then shows not the copy in /home/user/public_html/cakephp but the copy in /var/www/htdocs/cakephp. What can I do to fix this?

  Sometimes, in the heat of getting a lot of things done, I don't read emails I send as closely as I should. Is there an automated way to pop up warnings before a potentially-unpolite email is sent? I'm thinking about something that would say "wait, why don't you have a 'please' or 'would you' in that message?" I'm using Thunderbird 2 on Ubuntu 9.04.   I'm using the latest Chrome dev build on Mac OS X. Recently, I've been getting this message on any HTTPS webpage when I visit it the first time: The site's security certificate is not trusted! You attempted to reach checkout.google.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site. Why is this here, and how can I fix it? It may be because of my development build, but many other people use the dev version also, and I expect it would be fixed quicker then this.

• Win7-Server2008 RDP connection hangs on "Securing Remote Connection" for 20-30 seconds

  I have a problem that googling has turned up nothing, except this question on experts exchange which I borrowed most of the text from. :) When I connect via Remote Desktop to a new Windows 2008 R2 server it takes 20-30s to get past the "Securing Remote Connection" message during the login. If the password is wrong, it does this every time you attempt a login (ie its not a one time thing). However, after a successful login attempt the following logins to the same server goes faster. Most servers runs on VMware here, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

• Since updating to today's version of Skype on Win8, Skype won't even log in

  I am using the desktop (win32 not appstore) Skype on Windows 8. I accepted an auto-update today which now will not let me log into skype at all. I wiped out the AppData\Roaming\Skype folder because that's how you get Skype back in the past when it has gone stupid, but that didn't help either. I do not get any error message, just the circular progress indicator that lasts forever. (Okay, so far it's been 30 minutes. It may eventually time out yet.) Other ideas please? I tried the Windows 8 App Store Skype app (WinRT), which I hate, I guess I'll go back and install that for now. Update Skype 6.0.126 seems to be completely broken on my Win8 machine.

• SMTP Verb Error on MSExchange Server 2003

  Hi, Every morning for the last two weeks or more I've had to reboot our Exchange Server and often I have to reboot it again during the day. We use a smarthost for sending our mail out and if I view the queues on Exhange System Manager the Small Business SMTP Connector is in a retry state with "The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink". I turned logging up to maximum on ExchangeTransport and the only non-information event in EventViewer is “Message delivery to the host '62.13.128.187' failed while delivering to the remote domain 'mail.authsmtp.com' for the following reason: The connection was dropped due to an SMTP protocol event sink. The SMTP verb which caused the error is 'x-exps'. The response from the remote server is ''.” I stopped using the smarthost during the error condition and all I got was lots of small business connector connections with the same error. I can telnet into mail.authsmtp.com and send a mail during the error state. Any pointers would be gratefully received.

  I wrote about implementing a custom profile provider inside of your ASP.NET MVC application yesterday. If you haven’t read the article, don’t sweat it.  Most of the stuff I write is rubbish anyway. Since you have joined me today, though, I might as well offer up a little tip: you can run into trouble, like I did, if you enable your custom profile provider inside of an application which is deployed using a Web Deployment Project.  Everything will run great on your local machine and you’ll probably take an early lunch because you got the code running in no time flat and the build server is happy and all tests pass and, gosh, maybe you’ll just cut out early because it is Friday after all.  But then the first user hits the integration machine and, that’s right, yellow screen of death. Lucky you, just as you’re walking out the door, the user kindly sends the exception message and stack trace: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: type Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Stack Trace: [ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. You have no idea why, but you uncheck it.  You test and everything works great both locally and on the integration machine.  Application users think you’re the best and you’re still going to catch the last half hour of happy hour.  Happy Friday.

  I am trying to change IP address of a SuSE 10 machine that is running Tomcat. I need to create a shell script to do this so could not use YaST. As some sites suggested on my Google search, I edited the files in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-* to change the IP address. After that, I restarted the network service by calling /etc/init.d/network restart. The network card restarting just fine. I, then, restarted tomcat web service. However, when I browsed the new IP address using browser, I got an "Request denied" message. Can anyone please tell me how I could do this? Thanks

  I am building a box with Windows XP with some applications. One application requires connection to an Oracle database on remote. I have installed OracleXEClient.exe from Oracle download. The installation does install "Oracle Provider for OLE DB" driver. My problem is that I still cannot make connections to the remote Oracle db. The test I have done is to create a UDL file with Oracle provider OLE DB connection. The error message is: --------------------------- Microsoft Data Link Error --------------------------- Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified I think I may miss TNSNAMEC.ora in the box. I can find this file from another box where Oracle connection works fine. I am not sure what package I should install (from Oracle) so that the default TNSNAEMES.ora will be installed with related files and setup path for accessing the TNS file?

After installing windows updates on the machines and rebooting terminal services give me an immediate "not connect" message. The servers are running fine and you can connect via the physical machine. Once you reboot the box (with remote restart in some cases when it's not accessible) terminal services behaves itself and allows a connection. Whilst it's not a show stopper it is rather annoying when you can't see your box. Anyone know why this is or what the cause is?
