  • Where to put the star in C and C++ pointer notation

    For some time the following has been annoing me, where should I put the star in my pointer notation. int *var; // 1 and int* var; // 2 obviously do the same thing, and both notations are correct, but I find that most literature and code I look at use the 1th notation. wouldn't it be more 'correct' to use the 2th notation, separating the type and the variable name by a whitespace, rather than mixing the type and variable tokens?

Now i want to create a register form that is not using 'username' but the email address of the user.     Hi Guys, I'm trying to figure out the best C++ library/package for array manipulations in a manner of python. Basically I need a simplicity like this: values = numpy.array(inp.data) idx1 = numpy.where(values > -2.14) idx2 = numpy.where(values < 2.0) res1 = (values[idx1] - diff1)/1000 res1 = (values[idx2] - diff2)*1000 In python it's just 5 lines, but the simplest way in C++ i can think of is quite a number of nested loops.     Hi everyone, I'm trying to find an elegant way in Coffeescript to merge an array of arrays, so that [[1,2,3],[4,5,6],[7,8,9]] == [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9]. As you might imagine, I need this because I'm generating arrays from a function in a "for in" construct and need to concatenate the resulting nested array: result = (generate_array(x) for x in arr) Is there an elegant way to handle this?     Hi, i have a list with objects. The object has a property 'Sales' which is a string. Now i want to create a list of doubles with the values of all objects' 'Sales' properties. Anonymous type members must be declared with a member assignment, simple name or member access.

    With reflection, you can look up a class from a string at run time, but you can also say typeof(Foo) and get compile time type checking, auto completion etc. If what you want is a field not a class, you can look it up from a string at runtime, but if you want compile time type checking etc., is there anyway to say something like fieldof(Foo.Bar)? I know the name of both the class and the field in advance, and I want to be able to refer to the field at compile time rather than with a run-time string lookup.

I would like to use it (instead of strings) as the data type of variables and method arguments (top reasons: type safety, concat-proof, logical comparisons). System.IO.Path provides most of the functionality I want, but it is abstract. System.IO.FileInfo, as I understand, performs IO operations to do its job. I only want a wrapper for the path string.
