• Which modules can be disabled in apache2.4 on windows

  I have an Apache 2.4 webserver running on Windows. I am looking into system hardening and the config file httpd.conf. There are numerous load modules and I am wondering which modules I can safely disable for performance and / or security improvements. Some examples of things I would think I can disable are: LoadModule cgi_module others like LoadModule rewrite_module LoadModule version_module LoadModule proxy_module LoadModule setenvif_module I am not so sure they can be disabled. I am running php5 as a scripting engine, with no databases, and that is it. • How to synchronize tasks on multiple computers

  I would like to be able to run similar tasks on several computers that must be precisely synced. More specifically I need 4 laptops to be synced, probably over local network, and I need to use one of them to start a task (play a video) on all of them at the same time (different video files on different laptops). All of them are running Windows. Is there a third-party software or any easier way to do so over LAN without significant delay? I need virtually no response time - if there would be a single video streaming on all laptops then people should not recognize the delay.

• Okular (on Ubuntu 9.10) prints multiple pages per sheet (n-up) very small

  I'm trying to print a set of beamer slides with multiple slides per page (4-up or 6-up). When I select 4 pages or 6 pages per sheet in the Okular print dialog, the pages print quite small (perhaps even tiny -- about 1.75" by 1.25") and leave significant white-space on the page. I can get around this behavior by using the pdfnup utility (in the pdfjam package); which will correctly generate a 4- or 6-up pdf file but it's annoying to generate a second pdf file when I should be able to accomplish this task from the print dialog. Details: Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic), 64-bit, Color Postscript printer.

• OOMK kills mysql and apache when there is still a lot[?] of mem

  let me first say that I'm pretty new ti *nix systems and even more to server management. Anyway, I've got a little problem. I got VPS with 1gb mem, system is debian 6. I have few sites running on it, though some load can only be caused by one of them. Recently, OOMK started to kill mysql, causing wp and phpbb giving error that it can't connect to mysql server. Error itself is not good, especially if it happens at night and site becomes unavailable until I wake up and restart mysql. I have probably bad line in my cron which can be cause of it all (again, I'm new to it) */20 * * * * sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches Well, if you need any information, let me know, since I don't really know which information can be useful here. Also, I'd like to know if it's not too bad to have above cron task.

• Add custom command line to extended context menu in Windows 7

  I have an application pinned to the task bar. 90% of the time, I run it with no additional command line options, so I can either click it (if not already open), or right click the icon and click the application name to open a new instance. I want to make it where when I right click it, there are 2 options listed: the first is the program with no command line options and the second is the one with a custom command line (that I hard code). If this is impossible, it would be tolerable to add it to the extended context menu (shift + right click the icon), but I prefer the former.

• How can I fix a computer that is infested with malware and is extremely unresponsive? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do I get rid of malicious spyware, malware, viruses or rootkits from my PC? I'm troubleshooting a Windows 7 PC for a friend. A couple of days ago it started running 'slow'. It turns out 'slow' is about 15 minutes to the first glimpse of the desktop, and another 30 to show icons. It is possible to open Task Manager, and nothing seems awry, CPU usage at 1-5%, plenty of memory free. The machine is clearly infested with malware though, in particular a program called 'Optimizer Pro' is demanding money to 'remove 5102 files slowing down my computer'. This seems highly suspicious. My problem is though, that I can't access msconfig (I left it for a couple of hours after having hopefully typed it into the Start Menu and hit enter - nothing seems to have loaded), or anything at all basically. I can boot from a Linux Live CD, but can I actually do anything useful from there? System Restore hasn't fixed it either, and Safe Mode exhibits the same behavior.

  I only realised this afternoon that the ZIP format has a limit of what appears to be around 20gb. I am trying to automate an archive process (using Automate) to zip/rar/whatever a collection of folders/files on one of my disks. It always appeared to bomb out with an incomplete archive at about 20gb. So I tried using WinRAR and doing it manually as a ZIP file, but it told me of the limit. So, I was wondering, what is a recommended zip format (and tool for accomplishing the task) for archiving up a large amount of data (around 50gb)? Thanks

• Disable RDC Welcome Screen in Windows 2008 R2

  Is there a way to disable or bypass the "Welcome" screen I see when I'm using RDC to log in to a machine using saved credentials? I have startup task which launches an RDP session automatically to localhost when the machine boots. This works, except that the remote desktop window stops and waits for an "OK" on the Welcome screen: MACHINENAME-A.B.C.D(Server ID:Console 0) Welcome [OK] This screen is preventing me from automating this login. Is there any way to get around it? EDIT: Here's the command line I'm currently using to launch it: start /min C:\windows\system32\mstsc.exe c:\rdp\ServiceRunner.rdp

  Do anyone knows any kind of apps or services for "taking care of servers"? (besides managed servers) There are hundreds of ways your server or application can stop working properly. Small things are easy to miss but usually easy to fix. Log overgrouth, configuration issues, etc. Of course there are best practice checklists, but its not a human task to check configuration best practices. Im sure it can be automated: some kind of agent can monitor all system settings, say what is right and wrong and give suggestions on how to make it right. I have to admin several servers and I need some kind of overview of overall situation. As well as a tool, that will fix problems automatically. Can you people suggest something? • Windows 8 Hidden Downloading? Slow Internet?

  After upgrading to Windows 8, im facing a very slow download speed. My router and the NIC is working fine because on the same PC I also have Linux. In Linux, everything works fine. When checking through the task manager, it shows that the system use the full bandwidth 1Mbps even without a download. The process menu doesn't show whats taking much bandwidth. The bitdefender's firewall also shows network activity. Is there any hidden apps downloading? How to fix this?

  I have virtual machine with Linux (Ubuntu server) which is used as prototype for other machines. Sometimes I make changes in prototype system and want to import this changes at some other machine. I know about Puppet, cfengine and FAI but want something easy for example rsync script which will work through ssh when it needed. Main goal is /etc/ directory. But I don't want to syncronize some private files for example /etc/passwd /etc/shadow and so on. I don't know all of it. Are there tips for my task ? May be someone have such rsync script.

  Hello All, I want to ensure I have done all I can to configure a system's disks for serious database use. The three areas I know of (any others?) to be concerned about are: I/O size: the database engine and disk's native size should either match, or the database's native I/O size should be a multiple of the disk's native I/O size. Disks that are capable of Direct Memory Access (eg. IDE) should be configured for it. When a disk says it has written data persistently, it must be so! No keeping it in cache and lying about it. I have been looking for information on how to ensure these are so for CENTOS and Ubuntu, but can't seem to find anything at all! I want to be able to check these things and change them if needed. Any and all input appreciated.

• Visual Studio 2010 locking referenced Assembly

  I have a sandbox app that is built from the simple WPF Application template. This sandbox references an assembly that I am also building which contains the definition of a UserControl (WPF). I am instantiating this user control in the sandbox, to test the control's behaviour. The point of all this is to speed up development. This worked fine, but recently the .Vshost.exe paired with the sandbox process won't shut down. This prevents me from recompiling the Controls library, though ironically I can recompile the sandbox application. I can't kill the vshost process with Task Manager... only restarting VS2010 will clear it out. But every time I run the application from VS, the process just hangs there, blocking my workflow. I'm at a loss. Any ideas what could be causing this? Or does someone have any proposed workaround (mega-kill switch, perhaps?)

That is a time consuming and cumbersom task for me. I want to install windows, drivers, apps etc. once and create a backup of the entire C:\ drive, and keep it in a linux partition so that I can restore the OS with all the apps & drivers ready to go! I have ubuntu live CD with me and I have created a linux partition (ext4) in the HDD. My question is: How can I create an image of the C:\ drive (ntfs disk) in Ubuntu and store it in the linux partition?

  I have a vmware VPS running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise that has performance issues with MySQL. Every few minutes, MySQL stall for few seconds then responed to queries. I'm sure that my.ini need to be optimized, but unfortunately, I don't have any idea of my.ini configuration.   hi i have a problem, i have a user who created a database using ms access 2003 the problem is, if he's opening the db and made some changes, the other user can open the db but they can't work on it. but if he's exited the program, then the user can make some changes. i would like to know if its possible; that they can work at the same time when they open the database? • How can I get Windows 7 to switch audio from a monitor (with built-in speakers) to headphones when t

  I have an HP dv5t laptop running Windows 7 64 bit with an Acer H235H monitor connected to it via an HDMI cable. The monitor has built-in speakers, which are a huge improvement over the laptop's speakers. However, when I want to use headphones, right now, I have to connect them to the laptop, then right-click the sound icon in the task bar, select Playback Devices, right click the monitor, and disable it. Is there any way to get Windows 7 to automatically switch the output to the headphones when they're plugged in? That's the behavior that happens without the monitor attached (i.e. it will switch from the laptop speakers to headphones when headphones are plugged in). I have the same issue with a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7 64-bit and an identical monitor, for reference.

  I typically require multiple SharePoint virtual machines for development purposes. I currently manually build these every time I need one, either starting from a fresh OS install or using sysprep when working with SharePoint 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2. I currently use VMWare, but am open to VirtualBox or Hyper-V. I'd like to be able to go from zero to a working VM with SharePoint, SQL and Visual Studio all through script. Is this a feasible task? Or are there more practical methods which would start from a VM with a fresh installation of an OS, and then use more standard unattended installs. • Why don't the keyboard shortcuts (e.g. hotkeys like Ctrl-C) work in a SharePoint rich-text field?

  I use SharePoint 2010 via Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP. I have a standard input mask for a task consisting of text fields, rich-text fields et al. In text fields, I can use keyboard shortcuts (a.k.a. hotkeys) for editing (Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V) and formatting (Ctrl-B/Ctrl-I), but in the richtext field, none of them work. If I click on the appropriate button, however, the expected function is executed properly - but that is a tedious workaround. What could be the cause? Could it be that the Ctrl key is not recognized at all? (BTW: The problem is not reproducible in Firefox, because it doesn't show the rich-text controls at all. Why is another question.)

  I've been searching for hours for a Unity 4.5 plugin that allows users to watch youtube video in an android app. (I've found several solutions for IOS but not android!). Can anyone give me some pointers? I've tried uwebkit(which only works for IOS), vuforia, and many google.com suggestions I found online. None of them worked and its very fustrating. I just want to watch a youtube video via an unity app in android phone/tablet. It shouldn't be that hard of a task /=.   I'm looking for an online task list tool, what I absolutely need is the infinite number of subtask levels, because that's how my mind works. I don't need collaboration. There are a lot of great to do list sites out there, but for some reason most of them have only one subtask level or no subtasks at all. I know about todoist, but its interface doesn't work for me.   I'm working on a social website with an approximate read/write split of 90/10. Trying to decide on a MySQL engine. The ones I'm interested in are: XtraDB PBXT TokuDB What are the pros and cons of them for my use case? A few specific questions: PBXT uses log-based structure that avoids double-writes. It sounds very elegant, but the benchmark I've seen doesn't show any/much advantages over XtraDB. Do you have any experience with PBXT/XtraDB you can share? TokuDB sounds VERY interesting. But all the benchmarks I've seen are about single-threaded bulk inserts - inserting 100M rows for example. that's not very relevant for OLTP. What about its performance with large number of concurrent threads writing and reading at the same time? Anyone has tried that?
