  • Reading component parameters and setting defaults

    I'm pulling my hair on this because it should be simple, but can't get it to do the right thing. What's the best practice way of doing the following I've created a custom component that extends <s:Label> so now the Label has additional properties color2 color3 value which can be called like this and are used in the skin. <s:CustomLabel text="Some text" color2="0x939202" color3="0x999999" value="4.5" /> If I don't supply these parameters, I'd like some defaults to be set. So far I've had some success, but it doesn't work 100% of the time, which leads me to think that I'm not following best practices when setting those defaults. I do it now like this: [Bindable] private var myColor2:uint = 0x000000; [Bindable] private var myColor3:uint = 0x000000; [Bindable] private var myValue:Number = 10.0; then in the init function, I do a variation of this to set the default myValue = hostComponent.value; myValue = (hostComponent.value) ? hostComponent.value : 4.5; Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, depending on the type of variable I'm trying to set. I eventually decided to read them as Strings then convert them to the desired type, but it seems that this also works half the time.

  • Flex Overwriting my .HTML wrapper

    When I make changes to a Flex project and rerun the project, it seems that FlashBuilder4 rewrites my html wrapper that embeds the SWF. But I have additional javascript code in the html wrapper and don't want to keep losing my code. I had to re-write the code once and it was a pain in the neck. How do I stop it from re-writing the html. And the related question: how do I stop it from deleting the html during a clean? I basically need to exclude the html from its processing once it's been created the first time. P.S. I'm using Flash Builder 4, but I suppose it's the same in Flex Builder 3.

  • Trying to add a skinClass to <mx:Form>

    I'm working with Flex4 and I'm trying to skin a form (add a background and a border to it, etc.) I'm trying to do it the Flex 4 way with skinClass="" <mx:Form skinClass="skins.MyFormSkin" /> but it's not accepting skinClass as a property. How should I do it such that I'm still adhering to the best practices in Flex 4 (decoupling visuals from logic)?

  • Captivate - sending completion to LMS after 2 attempts

    Hi, I'm using Captivate 4, SouthRock LMS and Scorm1.2. My appsim provides the learner with 2 attempts. I've set it up to score Complete/Incomplete. The issue I have is that when the learner fails on the 2nd attempt an Incomplete is being sent to the LMS. How can I get the simulation to send a Complete on the 2nd attempt if the learner has not achieved the mastery score?

I've included that variable in the main mxml and made it public [Bindable] public var genericX:Number = 102; but I still can't access it from other mxml components.   • actionscript flex, how to send browser width to the swf itself

    I'm working with flex, but actionscript ideas are just as good. The flex <s:Application> tag has height="100%" width="100%" so the swf fits the browser as the browser gets resized. My problem is that I have a <s:Label> that I need to position based on the real/current size of the browser. <s:Application height="100%" width="100%"> ..... <s:Label text="hello" x="?" y=">" /> </s:Application> I heard it's possible to use Application.application.width; but I get a compile error, that it doesn't know what that is. Any ideas how to do this. I'm trying to get the current size of the swf in the browser, as the browser resizes.

  • viewstack causing error 1065 variable not defined issue?

    I've got an flex application where I have a left side TREE control and a viewstack on the right and when someone selects the tree it loads the named viewstack based on the hidden node value of the XML of the tree. But it's throwing a error 1065 variable not defined on a viewstack which worked on the last browser refresh/reload. It's not related to a particular viewstack from what I can tell it just seems to throw the error on certain render events. I've tried to use creationpolicy="all" on the viewstack but it seems to not be of any help. public function treeChanged(event:Event):void { selectedNode=Tree(event.target).selectedItem as XML; //trace(selectedNode.@hidden); //Alert.show([email protected]() + " *"); if([email protected]() == '' || [email protected]() == null){ //Alert.show("NULL !"); return; } mainviewstack.selectedChild = Container(mainviewstack.getChildByName([email protected]())); //Container(mainviewstack.getChildByName(selectedNode.@hidden)); If I add in an alert box before the getchildbyname option the viewstack has time to render and everything works fine, so it leads me to believe the app is not giving it enough time to load the viewstack?

I have a <s:Rect> that I've created and set its properties, but having trouble adding it. var aRect:Rect = new Rect(); //set properties like aRect.x, aRect.y, aRect.width, aRect.height //tried adding it various ways addChild(aRect); Application.addChild(aRect); Application.application.addChild(aRect); stage.addChild(aRect); But I keep getting the error 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type spark.primitives:Rect to an unrelated type flash.display:DisplayObject Originally in the mxml, it was right inside <s:Application> not nested inside anything <s:Application> <s:Rect id="aRect" x="10" y="10" width="15%" height="15%"> //then fill code here, removed for readability </s:Rect> </s:Application> What's the deal, I thought actionscript would be nicer than mxml.

  • Can't create flex4 project in flexbuilder using remoting or LiveCycle Data Servcies ES

    I'm trying out the FlasBuilder ide with ColdFusion 8 on OS X. When I try to create a new project, I get stuck at the server setup screen that forces you to validate your paths for your ColdFusion root folder and your webroot. Every combination I try says either "LiveCycle Data Services is not installed at the specified location" or "Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml." The flex-config.xml file is sitting in that directory. Is there some trick to getting this to work?

  • Get graphics information from font file. How to develop font parser similar to PDFView's font parser

    Hi, I am trying to convert text into graphics using c#. My input is character string and output is bitmap with the input text. After lot of search I found some ways to do it, I found some techiques which uses this kind of techinque. For Example While creating Captcha, we have to print the character in the bitmap. But for that I should have the font installed in my windows. I can not perform such operation without installing the font. I have .ttf file with me but I dont want to install it because my work for that font is temporary only. Is there any way where I can extract out the Font's graphical information by providing the Character? I have also found font parser code http://swinglabs.java.sun.com/hudson/job/PDFRenderer%20Weekly%20Build/javadoc/com/sun/pdfview/font/package-summary.html Can anyone please provide me how to develpo similar thing using c#.Net? Or From where can I get the algorithm to parce font?

  • Help me stabilize this jRun configuration (CF9/Win2k3/IIS6)

    Not sure if this would be better suited for ServerFault, but since I am not an admin but a developer I figured I would try SO. We've been struggling to keep our multi-server configuration stable for quite some time now. At the end of last month we were running under CF 7.0.2 on a two servers setup (one instance each). At that point we managed to get our uptime to around 1 week per instance before they would restart by themselves. Since the beginning of the month we upgraded to CF 9 and we're back to square one with multi-restart a day. Our current configuration is 2 Win2k3 servers, running a cluster of 4 instances, 2 instances per server. At this point we are pretty certain this is due to improper JVM settings. We've been toying with them and while some are more stable than others we never quite got it right. From the default: java.args=-server -Xmx512m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:MaxPermSize=192m -XX:+UseParallelGC -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/ To currently: java.args=-server -Xmx896m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:SurvivorRatio=8 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90 -XX:+UseParallelGC -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/ -verbose:gc -Xloggc:c:/Jrun4/logs/gc/gcInstance1b.log We have determined that we do need more than the default 512MB simply by monitoring with FusionReactor, on average our amount of memory consumed is hovering in the mid 300MB and can go up to low 700MB under heavy load. Most of the crash will be logged in jrun4/bin/hs_err_pid*.log always an "Out of swap space" I've attached links to the hs_err and garbage collector log file from yesterday at the bottom of the post. The relevant part is (I think) this: Heap PSYoungGen total 89856K, used 19025K [0x55490000, 0x5b6f0000, 0x5b810000) eden space 79232K, 16% used [0x55490000,0x561a64c0,0x5a1f0000) from space 10624K, 52% used [0x5ac90000,0x5b20e2f8,0x5b6f0000) to space 10752K, 0% used [0x5a1f0000,0x5a1f0000,0x5ac70000) PSOldGen total 460416K, used 308422K [0x23810000, 0x3f9b0000, 0x55490000) object space 460416K, 66% used [0x23810000,0x36541bb8,0x3f9b0000) PSPermGen total 107520K, used 106079K [0x03810000, 0x0a110000, 0x23810000) object space 107520K, 98% used [0x03810000,0x09fa7e40,0x0a110000) From it, I gather that its the PSPermGen that is full (most logs will show the same before a crash), which is why we increased MaxPermSize but the total still show as 107520K!??! No one here is a jRun expert, so any help or even ideas on what to try next would be greatly appreciated!!   • Flash: Adjust this code to keep the duplicated movie clip

    OK, so here is my code ham_mc.onPress=function(){ startDrag(this); } ham_mc.onRelease=ham_mc.onReleaseOutside=function(){ stopDrag(); _root.ham_mc.duplicateMovieClip("ham_mc" + "x",2); x++; } The user can at first drag the movie clip. When released, the duplicateMovieClip command runs, leaving a new ham movie clip in the position the first is dragged to. PROBLEM: When I click and drag the first ham movie click again, the duplicateMovieClip runs again but REPLACES the previous generated movie clip. I added x and x++ in an attempt to give the movie clip duplication a different name every time, but this doesn't solve it. How do I change this code so that a NEW ham_mc is created every time, rather than overwriting the old one. I'm tired, sorry for the poor explaination!

    I'm working within a skin for a button that has some <s:State> normal over In the tag, I'm drawing a circle private var theshape:Sprite; private function drawShape():void { theshape = new Sprite(); theshape.graphics.beginFill(0x666666); theshape.graphics.drawCircle(3,5,10); theshape.graphics.endFill(); //i then add it to a Spite Visual Element that's defined in mxml canv.addChild(theshape); } This works fine, until I try to control under which states that canv SpriteVisualElement appears. If I just add an includeIn like this <s:SpriteVisualElement id="canv" includeIn="over" /> I get a run-time error TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. Any ideas what the problem is, or a different way I can accomplish the same thing. What I need is to simply include the circle in the button when it's in the hover state.

  • Item Renderer having trouble updating

    I have a list ItemRenderer that has 2 states. When it initializes, I set it to 1 state and listen for an event that switches it to state 2. protected function onCreationComplete(event:FlexEvent):void{ currentState = "state1"; addEventListener(CustomEvent.Event1, switch); } protected function switch(event:FlexEvent):void{ currentState = "state2"; } The difference between the 2 states is that I hide/show some labels. The problem is that it doesn't work. I still see the visual of the old state, even though if I Alert.show(currentState), it shows the correct state name. I've tried adding the line invalidateDisplayList(); inside the switch function but still no luck. protected function switch(event:FlexEvent):void{ currentState = "state2"; invalidateDisplayList(); } What am I doing wrong. Any ideas how I can get this ItemRenderer to really update?
