• WPF binding Ancestor

  Hi Experts, I have problems with bindings. I want to use a UserControl (Intellibox from codeplex) but I only get error messages in the output window. Basically I have window grid ... stuff ... usercontrol (self written) ... stuff ... usercontrol (IntelliBox) In the Output window I get following stuff: System.Windows.Data Error: 4 : Cannot find source for binding with reference 'RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType='System.Windows.Controls.UserControl', AncestorLevel='1''. BindingExpression:Path=ShowResults; DataItem=null; target element is 'Popup' (Name='IntelliboxPopup1'); target property is 'IsOpen' (type 'Boolean') The binding in the IntelliBox control is defined as follows: {Binding Path=ShowResults, RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type UserControl}}} I guess there is a problem, cause the nesting withing usercontrols - how to I get this error fixed? • Urlrewriting.net pages are not causing postbacks

  I'm using webforms with UrlRewriting.Net to rewrite pages, e.g. http://www.example.com/stuff.aspx?c=30 becomes http://www.example.com/stuff/30-this-stuff.aspx. It works in so far as the correct content is loading; however, none of the postbacks are working (mostly buttons on the page). If I set up a breakpoint on Page_Load, I see that IsPostBack is always false. Any ideas on how to fix this? Right now I'm just on Visual Studio 2008. EDIT: I have since switched to UrlRewriter.Net, which worked after a few tweaks (see Scott Gu's article). Besides here, I have posted my original problem to the developer's forum: if I ever get an answer, I'll post it here (unless else posts it here first).

• Vertically split variable-sized div using CSS

  I'm trying to divide an auto-scaling div into two vertically using two other div's. What I have so far: <div id='wrapper'> <div id='left'>some stuff</div> <div id='right'>more stuff</div> </div> with #frame { position: static; width: 1000px; height: auto; /* more positioning stuff */ } #left { position: absolute; width: 200px; height: 100%; } #right { position: static; margin-left: 200px; } This seems to work OK, except if the contents of #right are higher than those of #left. In this case, part of the contents of left are invisible. How can I make sure that the height of the left div is also taken into account when the needed height of #wrapper is calculated?

• How Do I Detect A WordPress Admin Panel in my Plugin?

  I've got two events in my plugin. One is run for the front-end. The other is run for the admin panel. Both call the same function in one particular situation, and this echoes stuff to the screen. How do I make it such that the function is smart, calls something in WordPress, and detects whether it's being loaded in the front-end versus the admin panel? I don't want it to echo stuff to the screen on the front-end, but do want it to do so on the admin panel. Right now, it's echoing on both, which is not what I want. Background For the front end (the side of the site that the visitor sees), I'm intercepting the 'wp' event and checking for: ( is_single() || is_page() || is_home() || is_archive() || is_category() || is_tag()) For the admin panel, I'm intercepting the 'admin_menu' event. I tried intercepting the is_*() stuff above, but it seems to somehow answer TRUE or something, not giving me a difference between front-end and admin panel.

• Functional Programming - Lots of emphasis on recursion, why?

  I am getting introduced to Functional Programming [FP] (using Scala). One thing that is coming out from my initial learnings is that FPs rely heavily on recursion. And also it seems like, in pure FPs the only way to do iterative stuff is by writing recursive functions. And because of the heavy usage of recursion seems the next thing that FPs had to worry about were StackoverflowExceptions typically due to long winding recursive calls. This was tackled by introducing some optimizations (tail recursion related optimizations in maintenance of stackframes and @tailrec annotation from Scala v2.8 onwards) Can someone please enlighten me why recursion is so important to functional programming paradigm? Is there something in the specifications of functional programming languages which gets "violated" if we do stuff iteratively? If yes, then I am keen to know that as well. PS: Note that I am newbie to functional programming so feel free to point me to existing resources if they explain/answer my question. Also I do understand that Scala in particular provides support for doing iterative stuff as well.

• using Swing components in javafx if they're not in the NetBeans javafx palette

  I'm just getting started with javafx in NetBeans, and I have it doing simple stuff (windows with buttons + the like) but would like to try something slightly more realistic. The "Swing/AWT Components" palette has a whole bunch of stuff that the "JavaFX Script Code Clips" palette does not (it has Button, CheckBox, ComboBox, ComboBoxItem, Label, RadioButton, Slider, TextField, and ToggleButton). How do I add stuff to this palette? I would like to try using some of the components in org-netbeans-swing-outline.jar edit: Aha. I was missing the point somewhat: there are only some javafx-wrapped Swing components available in javafx.ext.Swing.*, so if you want one of the other Swing components you have to wrap them yourself.

• C++ Switch Statement Case Error

  I'm programming a simple text-based RPG using a switch statement for a game loop. The program works fine until I attempt to add another case statement, at which point it gives me the following three errors: "jump to case label" (error occurs at the line of the newly added case), and two "crosses initialization of 'ClassName *objectName'"(errors occur when the new objects are created in case 2).   In Jinja2, how can one access assigned variables (i.e. {% set X=Y %}) within files incorporated with include? I'd expect the following to work given two Jinja2 files: A.jinja: Stuff {% include 'B.jinja' -%} B has {{ N }} references B.jinja: {% set N = 12 %} I'd expect that A.jinja, when compiled with Jinja2, would produce the following output: Stuff B has 12 references However, it produces: Stuff B has references I'd be much obliged for any input as to how to access the Jinja2 variables, such as N above, in the file that includes the file where N is set.   Suppose I have a vector<int> myvec and I want to loop through all of the elements in reverse. I can think of a few ways of doing this: for (vector<int>::iterator it = myvec.end() - 1; it >= myvec.begin(); --it) { // do stuff here } for (vector<int>::reverse_iterator rit = myvec.rbegin(); rit != myvec.rend(); ++rit) { // do stuff here } for (int i = myvec.size() - 1; i >= 0; --i) { // do stuff here } So my question is when should I use each? Is there a difference? I know that the first one is dangerous because if I pass in an empty vector, then myvec.end() - 1 is undefined, but are there any other hazards or inefficiencies with this?

  Hi, I am trying to get somehow all the revision log that were made to a particular file, but I seem to stupid to do that :( To checkout a module I do the following CVSROOT="/home/projects/stuff/" cvs co myworkingdir within myworkingdir I have a testfile called paper.tex and from this I wanna try to get the revisions but I tried the following but nothing works ... CVSROOT="/home/projects/stuff/" cvs log paper.tex cvs log: cannot open CVS/Entries for reading: No such file or directory cvs log: nothing known about paper.tex -bash-3.2$ CVSROOT="/home/projects/stuff/" cvs log myworkingdir/paper.tex cvs [log aborted]: no such directory `myworkingdir' Anyone an idea how I could get the log of the revisions of the paper.tex file in the myworkingdir module? But when I decompile my assembly (compiled with .NET 2.0) I get this in Resharper: try { insertCommand = new OleDbCommand("", connection); Label_0017: try { //do super stuff } finally { Label_0111: if ((insertCommand == null) != null) { goto Label_0122; } insertCommand.Dispose(); Label_0122:; } I'm talking about this line: if ((insertCommand == null) != null).   Hello everyone, I am designing a transportation agency/workflow system, and it including 3 types of people, customer who requests to transport some stuff, drivers who deliver the stuff, and truck manager who manages transport source/destination truck coordination and communicates/organizes drivers. The system is expected to be a web site, and 3 kinds of people could use the web site to submit request, accept request, monitor status of specific stuff transportation, etc. The web site is more like an open agency or a workflow system. I am wondering whether there are any existing technologies, tools or projects (better to be open source, but not a must) which I could build my application faster based on? • Problems crossing the boundary between protected greasemonkey execution space and the unsafeWindow l

  Hi guys. Here is my problem: I've registered some callbacks into a Yahoo event driven webpage (betfair.com market views) and am trapping the betsPlaced events with a handler. So far so simple. Next stage is to get the event back into greasemonkey land, and while I know that from greasemoney space you can call unsafeWindow.stuff, there is no reverse operation (by design). So if I want to send the contents of the event over, say, a cometd queue, my carefully set up jquery, greasemonkey, YUI2, betfair environment fails by telling me that unsafeWindow processes cant call GM_ajax stuff. This is obviously safe and sane, but it basically stops me doing what I want to do. Has anyone tried doing this (ignore the cometd stuff, just general ajax calls) and succeeded? I've had a look at pages like this: http://wiki.greasespot.net/0.7.20080121.0%2B_compatibility but it doesnt appear to work for all the calls.

  I have the following XML that is provided to me and I cannot change it: <Parent> <Settings Version="1234" xmlns="urn:schemas-stuff-com"/> </Parent> I am trying to retrieve the "Version" attribute value using XPath. It appears since the xmlns is defined without an alias it automatically assigns that xmlns to the Settings node. When I read this XML into an XMLDocument and view the namespaceURI value for the Settings node it is set to "urn:schemas-stuff-com". I have tried: //Parent/Settings/@Version - returns Null //Parent/urn:schemas-stuff-com:Settings/@Version - invalid syntax

• How would I strip an '&' symbol out of an ESRI dropdown before any of it's default control logic is

  I have an ESRI dropdown control inside of an ESRI toolbar. One of the items in the dropdown needs to have an '&' symbol in it. As it turns out ESRI stuff builds it's callback strings as & delimited strings, so when an item is selected the parent toolbar immediately builds and handles the callback string. At one point it splits strings based on the '&' crashing the app. In effect, having an ampersand in an esri dropdown causes nasty stuff to happen when you select the item. What I need to do is find out how I can hop in before the callback stuff starts happening and strip that & out. I was thinking that perhaps I'd have to create a custom esri toolbar control, but I'm not sure and that'd be pretty undesirable. Any ideas?

• Django 1.2 crash course needed

  I know Python but I've never used Django. What do I need to know about Django 1.2 to port my typical PHP CRUD web application in one weekend? (Yes I've read Joel Spolsky's Netscape article :-)) I'm reading this tutorial right now and it's excellent. I'm already playing around with inspectdb to generate my models from the existing schema. I'm planning to use the following features of Django this weekend: Fragment caching Static asset versioning (for far future expires) Schema migrations (or whatever they're called in Django) Auto-admin (and customize it later) The test framework ...other stuff I probably don't know about yet I'm familiar with all these concepts in other languages/frameworks, except for the ORM which I've never used. I know SQL pretty well though. Any links, sage bits of advice, gotchas, stuff not mentioned in the (excellent) tutorial/docs, or stuff that is mentioned but warrants repeating == very welcome. • .NET WebService IPC - Should it be done to minimise some expensive operations?

  I'm looking at a few different approaches to a problem: Client requests work, some stuff gets done, and a result (ok/error) is returned. A .NET web service definitely seems like the way to go, my only issue is that the "stuff" will involve building up and tearing down a session for each request. Does abstracting the "stuff" out to an app (which would keep a single session active, and process the request from the web service) seem like the right way to go? (and if so, what communication method) The work time is negligible, my concern is the hammering the transaction servers in question will probably get if I create/drop a session for each job. Is some form of IPC or socket based communication a feasible solution here? Thoughts/comments/experiences much appreciated. Edit: After a bit more research, it seems like hosting a WCF service in a Windows Service is probably a better way to go...

  I've been messing around with jQuery plugin code and I'm trying to put all of my common variables into a single object for easy access. I have included a few examples below on how I've done this, but I'm wondering how others deal with this problem. Lets say I have this var x = function(options){ var defaults = { ulist : $('ul#list'), listLen : $('ul#list').children().length } $.extend(options, defaults); // do other stuff } What I'm trying to do is use the ulist object in as a base, then find the number of li's I guess I could do this: var x = function(options){ var defaults = { ulist : $('ul#list'), listLen : 0 } defaults.listLen = defaults.ulist.children().length; $.extend(options, defaults); // do other stuff } or this: var x = function(options){ var defaults = { ulist : $('ul#list') }; var defaults2 = { listLen : defaults.ulist.children().length } $.extend(defaults, defaults2); $.extend(options, defaults); // do other stuff } The above code samples are just thrown together, and only meant to get the idea across to you. Anyway, is there a better way to do this?

The second one is a function `goodToGo() so I want to call it unless the first condition is already true $value = 2239; if ($value < 2000 && goodToGo($value)){ //do stuff } function goodToGo($value){ $ret = //some processing of the value return $ret; } My question is about the 2 if conditions $value < 2000 && goodToGo($value). Do they both get evaluated or does the second one only get evaluated when the first one is true?   Given an array of N items: $arr = array('a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'f'); What's the most elegant way to loop through in groups of M items (assuming N is divisible by M)? I tried foreach (array_chunk($arr, 2) as list($first, $second)) { // do stuff with $first and $second } but this resulted in a syntax error. • html links & hover events over certain locations on an image.

  So i created a web site a long time ago using a designer alot like frontpage + expression design put together, and since then Ive gotten more into coding, and I'm learning html, CSS, and all that good stuff.. and i have this re-designed header that Ive made here: http://prntscr.com/8zct So what I need to know, is how i can get it so that when a user clicks on one of the links in the header design it will redirect to a page. and also if possible, how to make it so when a user hovers over a link a drop down may appear with other options. As me being quite new to this sort of stuff, could anybody help me achieve this? PS. I'm working in Visual Studio with ASP. but that doesn't change anything about the html and css stuff. just letting you guys know.
