  • How do I perform 'WHERE' on groups of rows?

    I have a table, which looks like: +-----------+----------+ + person_id + group_id + +-----------+----------+ + 1 + 10 + + 1 + 20 + + 1 + 30 + + 2 + 10 + + 2 + 20 + + 3 + 10 + +-----------+----------+ I need a query such that only person_ids with groups 10 AND 20 AND 30 are returned (only person_id: 1). I am not sure how to do this, as from what I can see it would require me to group the rows by person_id and then select the rows which contain all group_ids. I'm looking for something which will preserve the use of keys without resorting to string operations on group_concat() or such.

If the max value is repeated on that day, the lowest time stamp is selected. I am testing on localhost, for single user, it returns very fast. But when I try 1000, it takes forever, not even mentioned 40k users. Anyway to optimise/improve this code? EDIT: By the way, each of the others 20 tables has ~20 - 40k records

    I am looking at whether or not certain 'systems' for betting really do work as claimed, namely, that they have a positive expectation. One such system is based on the rebate on loss. You basically have a large master pot, say $1 million. Your bankroll for each game is $50k. The way it works, is as follows: 1) Start with $50k, always bet on banker 2) If you win, add the money to the master pot. Then play again with $50k. 3) If you lose(now you're at $30k) play till you either: (a) hit 0, you get a rebate of 10%. Begin playing again with $50k+5k=$55k. (b) If you win more than the initial bankroll, add the money to the master pot. Then play again with $50k. 4) Continue until you double the master pot. I just cant find an easy way of programming out the possible cases in R, since you can eventually go down an improbable path. For example, you start at 50k, lose 20, win 19, now you're at 49, now you lose 20, lose 20, now youre at 9, you either lose 9 and get back 5k or you win and this cycle continues until you either end up with more than 50k or hit 0 and get the rebate on the 50k and start again with $50k +5k. Here's some code i started, but i havent figured out a good way of handling the cases where you get stuck and keeping track of the number of games played. Thanks again for your help.     I would like my WPF application to display all percentages without % sign. For example 20% would be displayed as "20" but i still want to use the standard formatting for percentages (so i get the benefit of string formatter to multiply it by 100 for me) in other words, how do i get string.Format("0.00%", 0.2) to output "20" but not "20%"? Is it possible to globally define PercentSymbol as empty string for the entire application? In particular i am using ContentStringFormat in my WPF application to format the numbers and percentages. Maybe i can do it directly in WPF.

  • How to read from multiple queues in real-world?

    Here's a theoretical question: When I'm building an application using message queueing, I'm going to need multiple queues support different data types for different purposes. Let's assume I have 20 queues (e.g. one to create new users, one to process new orders, one to edit user settings, etc.). I'm going to deploy this to Windows Azure using the 'minimum' of 1 web role and 1 worker role. How does one read from all those 20 queues in a proper way? This is what I had in mind, but I have little or no real-world practical experience with this: Create a class that spawns 20 threads in the worker role 'main' class. Let each of these threads execute a method to poll a different queue, and let all those threads sleep between each poll (of course with a back-off mechanism that increases the sleep time). This leads to have 20 threads (or 21?), and 20 queues that are being actively polled, resulting in a lot of wasted messages (each time you poll an empty queue it's being billed as a message). How do you solve this problem?

  • Why would Django fcgi just die? How can I find out?

    I'm running Django on Linux using fcgi and Lighttpd. Every now and again (about once a day) the server just dies. I'm using the latest stable release of Django, Python and Lighttpd. The only thing I can think of is that my program is opening a lot of files and executing a lot of external processes, but I'm fairly sure that side of things is watertight. Looking at the error and access logs, there's nothing exceptional happening (i.e. load isn't above normal). On those occasions where I have had exceptions from Python, these have shown up in the error.log, but when this crash happens I get nothing. Is there any way of finding out why the process died? Short of putting logging statements on every single line? Obviously I can't reproduce this so I don't know exactly where to look.

    suppose I have a list of coordinates: data = [[(10, 20), (100, 120), (0, 5), (50, 60)], [(13, 20), (300, 400), (100, 120), (51, 62)]] and I want to take all tuples that either appear in each list in data, or any tuple that differs from all tuples in lists other than its own by 3 or less. How can I do this efficiently in Python? For the above example, the results should be: [[(100, 120), # since it occurs in both lists (10, 20), (13, 20), # since they differ by only 3 (50, 60), (51, 60)]] (0, 5) and (300, 400) would not be included, since they don't appear in both lists and are not different from elements in lists other than their own by 3 or less. how can this be computed? thanks.
