  • Vim plugin only works when file is provided as arg to launch command

    I am using the plugin java_getset.vim. The issue is that the plugin's commands are only available when I launch vim with the file as an argument. user@machine~: vim myfile.java If launch vim and use command-t or NerdTree to open the file in a buffer the plugin's commands are not accessible. All the filetype detection stuff is configured and working(I have syntax highlighting and indentation). The plugin source appears to be written to the letter according the the vim docs for a filetype plugin. Can anyone help me understand what changes a can make so that I can use this plugin in conjunction with Command-t?

    For debugging purposes, I need to recursively search a directory for all files which start with a UTF-8 byte order mark (BOM). My current solution is a simple shell script: find -type f | while read file do if [ "`head -c 3 -- "$file"`" == $'\xef\xbb\xbf' ] then echo "found BOM in: $file" fi done Or, if you prefer short, unreadable one-liners: find -type f|while read file;do [ "`head -c3 -- "$file"`" == $'\xef\xbb\xbf' ] && echo "found BOM in: $file";done It doesn't work with filenames that contain a line break, but such files are not to be expected anyway. Is there any shorter or more elegant solution? Are there any interesting text editors or macros for text editors?

    This is my app: If someone enters "C6H12O6+O2=CO2+H2O", then I have already written code to split the equation into terms, so in an ArrayList called rterms I have the strings: C6H12O6 CO2 and in another ArrayList called pterms, I have: CO2 H2O I need to count the number of C's in each term of the reactants, so 6 for term 1, 0 for term 2, and then the H's and then O's. How would I do this? Any help is appreciated.

  • What is a good "free-form" ("type anywhere" or canvas-like) text editor? [on hold]

    My 5-1/2 y.o. son is starting to use a computer and one of the things he likes to do is to type stuff into an editor. He has used TuxPaint before and is familiar with the idea of a "canvas" for painting stuff (where painting anything anywhere on the canvas is fair game). When he opened the text editor (this was gedit on Qimo Linux), he attempted to do the same thing -- he pointed the text cursor to an arbitrary location within the editor window and expected to be able to type there (like a "text canvas", if you will). I had to explain to him that he would have to press Enter a few times to create new lines, as well as press Space a few times to create columns before he could do that. This is sub-optimal. My question: are there any free-form, canvas-like text editors that I can have him use? Almost like hex editors of yore. I am not interested in getting him to create "text areas" in a paint program.

    Hello! At the moment, I try to install Arduino on my Ubuntu 10.04 (32 Bit) computer. I downloaded the latest release at http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software, cd'ed to the directory and unziped the package. The page itself is a Publishing page, and content within the Page Content field is indexed properly and shows up in search results. How can I ensure that content within Content Editor webparts is also indexed? Or do I have to use other methods like additional content fields in the page?

  • How can I get the Terminal raster font to display alt codes in a text editor?

    I am working on a project that includes making some ASCII art, except it isn't true ASCII art since I am using a far amount of Windows Alt codes to make it. Anyways, I wanted to make sure that as I am working on it, that it looks exactly how it will in a windows command prompt terminal session. So since command prompt defaults to the Terminal raster font, I figured I would use that. But I quickly noticed that when I use the Terminal typeface in a text editor, it will not render ASCII codes, either at all (as is the case most of the time) or incorrectly. Now, I understand if a font just doesn't support non-ASCII characters, but what I don't get is how the characters do show up correctly in command prompt when they don't in a text editor. I checked the output of the 'chcp' and it was set to 437 by default, which is what I need. Well, either that or 850 but preferably 437 since they got rid of some of the graphics in 437 and replaced them with other Latin characters. Command prompt terminal settings show I am using the Terminal raster font with a 8x12 glyph size. So I try using size 12 in the text editor but no good, even after switching the text encoding to either MS-DOS OEM-US (supposedly an alternative name for CP437) or UTF-8. I just don't get how I am not getting the characters to show up. Also, if it helps, the art I am making is basically modified screen shots from a game I play called Dwarf Fortress that uses characters from the Terminal/Curses typeset, or at least that is how it is reported in the forums by those who make graphics sets to replace the default character set. However, the game doesn't actually use the system's Terminal font. The game's data files includes a bitmap image that is a grid of all the characters the game uses. So it uses this bitmap to render graphics instead of the actual font file. And I basically want to get a text editor to make it so if I type up some ASCII art to look like a screenshot from Dwarf Fortress, that it will actually look like Dwarf Fortress other than the lack of color. Any help?

    I pass a ViewModel (which contains a "Person" object) from the "EditPerson" controller action into the view. When posted back from the view, the ActionResult receives all of the Person properties except the ID (which it says is zero instead of say its real integer) Can anyone tell me why?     With Scratch we can create video games online, from its web platform, and publish them on the same web. I could download its source code and use it, as many others already did (see Scratch modifications). Unfortunately, we need programming knowledge to use it. Actually, Scratch is mainly for teaching kids to code. I also found editors like Construct 2, GameSalad Creator and many others (just type on Google: create a video game without programming). With those editors we can create video games without coding. Unfortunately they are neither open source nor web platform. They need to be installed on Windows or Mac. Do you know some editor like Construct 2 or GameSalad Creator but open source and executable from a web server? Maybe some HTML5 game engine can do it?

    I am looking for a wysiwyg editor to allow user to edit part of their website. I already worked with TinyMCE, and heard about CKEditor, which both look great. However, they both lack a free (PHP) file manager/uploader, as they sell their own tool to make some money. I found a few free alternatives for TinyMCE, the best one (for my needs) being PHP Letter's one, but I was wondering about what the community uses ? Do you buy the "official" file manager ? Do you code your own ? Or do you have a great (free) alternative ?
