  • Auto update not working

    When I get new updates, I can't install them. When I try to install I get the following error message. installArchives() failed: Preconfiguring packages ... Preconfiguring packages ... • Ubuntu application keeps disappearing

    - by Ibrahim
    This issue is something entirely different and perhaps one of the reason I switched from Fedora to Ubuntu 6 months back when 12.04 was launched. While applications like thunderbird or Firefox is running, it simply keeps disappearing without popping up any error. It was just exactly the same thing happened in fedora only when i UPGRADED to the latest version from earlier one and the same thing I guess is haunting me in Ubuntu only after upgrading i

  • Netbeans / persistence API error

    - by Danny
    I am following this tutorial, I'm using netbeans 6.5.1 http://www.netbeans.org/kb/docs/java/gui-db-custom.html When I get to the part where I create the "new entity class from database", which is in the "Customizing the Master/Detail View" section of the tutoiral. I can't ever compile because I get this error in the task list (and I get a runtime error when I run)... Atleast I think these two are related. Error Named queries can be defined only on an Entity or MappedSuperclass class. Countries.java 27 C:/Users/Danny/dev/NetBeansProjects/Test/src/test Error Named queries can be defined only on an Entity or MappedSuperclass class. Products.java 28 C:/Users/Danny/dev/NetBeansProjects/Test/src/test note that all I do is do newentity classes from database, and do exactly as the tutorial says. I stopped on the tutoral at the "Adding Dialog Boxes" heading, because the tutorial writer says the application should be "partially functional" which makes me think it should atleast RUN. I haven't edited the generated code outside of what I've been instructed to do. This is the output produced by the netbeans output console: run: Jun 23, 2009 3:03:23 PM org.jdesktop.application.Application$1 run SEVERE: Application class test.TestApp failed to launch javax.persistence.PersistenceException: No Persistence provider for EntityManager named MyBusinessRecordsPU: Provider named oracle.toplink.essentials.PersistenceProvider threw unexpected exception at create EntityManagerFactory: oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.PersistenceUnitLoadingException Local Exception Stack: Exception [TOPLINK-30005] (Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2.0.1 (Build b09d-fcs (12/06/2007))): oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.PersistenceUnitLoadingException Exception Description: An exception was thrown while searching for persistence archives with ClassLoader: sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader@11b86e7 Internal Exception: javax.persistence.PersistenceException: Exception [TOPLINK-28018] (Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2.0.1 (Build b09d-fcs (12/06/2007))): oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.EntityManagerSetupException Exception Description: predeploy for PersistenceUnit [MyBusinessRecordsPU] failed. • How can I run BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

    - by Christopher
    I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. My host does not allow SSH/Shell (which is how the documentation says to runs he script), but just going to the URL usually works because of this. However, I get a 500 (Internal Server Error) error. I have logged errors: Possible unintended interpolation of @moz in string at ./bitch.conf line 78 (#1) (W ambiguous) You said something like `@foo' in a double-quoted string but there was no array @foo in scope at the time. If you wanted a literal @foo, then write it as \@foo; otherwise find out what happened to the array you apparently lost track of. • Why does gdb show two different returns?

    - by YuppieNetworking
    Hello all, Last week I was a debugging a code and a weird situation came up: gdb passes through two different return clauses. I made a simple example that illustrates the situation: #include <iostream> using namespace std; int test() { string a = "asd"; string b = "asd"; while (true) { if (a == b) { return 0; } } return -1; } int main() { int result = test(); cout << "result: " << result << endl; } When debugging the code I got: (gdb) b main Breakpoint 1 at 0x1d4c: file example.cpp, line 19. (gdb) r Starting program: /Users/yuppienet/temp/a.out Reading symbols for shared libraries +++. done Breakpoint 1, main () at example.cpp:19 19 int result = test(); (gdb) s test () at example.cpp:7 7 string a = "asd"; (gdb) n 8 string b = "asd"; (gdb) n 11 if (a == b) { (gdb) n 12 return 0; (gdb) n 15 return -1; (gdb) n 16 } (gdb) n main () at example.cpp:20 20 cout << "result: " << result << endl; (gdb) n result: 0 21 } (gdb) n 0x00001ab2 in start () I noted that even if gdb shows line 15, the return value is 0 (the finish command confirms this as well). So the question is: why does gdb show line 15: return -1, even if the function is not really returning this value? Thanks!

When I run the example from http://weavejester.github.com/compojure/docs/getting-started.html ...I get the following error at the lein repl step: ~/hello-www> lein repl src/hello_www/core.clj Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Wrong number of args passed to: repl$repl (NO_SOURCE_FILE:0) at clojure.lang.Compiler.eval(Compiler.java:5359) at clojure.lang.Compiler.eval(Compiler.java:5311) at clojure.core$eval__4350.invoke(core.clj:2364) at clojure.main$eval_opt__6502.invoke(main.clj:228) at clojure.main$initialize__6506.invoke(main.clj:247) at clojure.main$script_opt__6526.invoke(main.clj:263) at clojure.main$main__6544.doInvoke(main.clj:347) at clojure.lang.RestFn.invoke(RestFn.java:483) at clojure.lang.Var.invoke(Var.java:381) at clojure.lang.AFn.applyToHelper(AFn.java:180) at clojure.lang.Var.applyTo(Var.java:482) at clojure.main.main(main.java:37) Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Wrong number of args passed to: repl$repl at clojure.lang.AFn.throwArity(AFn.java:439) at clojure.lang.AFn.invoke(AFn.java:43) at clojure.lang.Var.invoke(Var.java:369) at clojure.lang.AFn.applyToHelper(AFn.java:165) at clojure.lang.Var.applyTo(Var.java:482) at clojure.core$apply__3776.invoke(core.clj:535) at leiningen.core$_main__59$fn__61.invoke(core.clj:94) at leiningen.core$_main__59.doInvoke(core.clj:91) at clojure.lang.RestFn.applyTo(RestFn.java:138) at clojure.core$apply__3776.invoke(core.clj:535) at leiningen.core$_main__59.invoke(core.clj:97) at user$eval__67.invoke(NO_SOURCE_FILE:1) at clojure.lang.Compiler.eval(Compiler.java:5343) ... 11 more I have tried both the stable and the developer version of lein without any success. • Remove/squash entries in a vertical hash

    - by Forkrul Assail
    I have a grid that represents an X, Y matrix, stored as a hash here. Some points on the X Y matrix may have values (as type string), and some may not. A typical grid could look like this: {[9, 5]=>"Alaina", [10, 3]=>"Courtney", [11, 1]=>"Gladys", [8, 7]=>"Alford", [14, 11]=>"Lesley", [17, 2]=>"Lawson", [0, 5]=>"Katrine", [2, 1]=>"Tyra", [3, 3]=>"Fredy", [1, 7]=>"Magnus", [6, 9]=>"Nels", [7, 11]=>"Kylie", [11, 0]=>"Kellen", [10, 2]=>"Johan", [14, 10]=>"Justice", [0, 4]=>"Barton", [2, 0]=>"Charley", [3, 2]=>"Magnolia", [1, 6]=>"Maximo", [7, 10]=>"Olga", [19, 5]=>"Isadore", [16, 3]=>"Delfina", [17, 1]=>"Noe", [20, 11]=>"Francis", [10, 5]=>"Creola", [9, 3]=>"Bulah", [8, 1]=>"Lempi", [11, 7]=>"Raquel", [13, 11]=>"Jace", [1, 5]=>"Garth", [3, 1]=>"Ernest", [2, 3]=>"Malcolm", [0, 7]=>"Alejandrin", [7, 9]=>"Marina", [6, 11]=>"Otilia", [16, 2]=>"Hailey", [20, 10]=>"Brandt", [8, 0]=>"Madeline", [9, 2]=>"Leanne", [13, 10]=>"Jenifer", [1, 4]=>"Humberto", [3, 0]=>"Nicholaus", [2, 2]=>"Nadia", [0, 6]=>"Abigail", [6, 10]=>"Zola", [20, 5]=>"Clementina", [23, 3]=>"Alvah", [19, 11]=>"Wallace", [11, 5]=>"Tracey", [8, 3]=>"Hulda", [9, 1]=>"Jedidiah", [10, 7]=>"Annetta", [12, 11]=>"Nicole", [2, 5]=>"Alison", [0, 1]=>"Wilma", [1, 3]=>"Shana", [3, 7]=>"Judd", [4, 9]=>"Lucio", [5, 11]=>"Hardy", [19, 10]=>"Immanuel", [9, 0]=>"Uriel", [8, 2]=>"Milton", [12, 10]=>"Elody", [5, 10]=>"Alexanne", [1, 2]=>"Lauretta", [0, 0]=>"Louvenia", [2, 4]=>"Adelia", [21, 5]=>"Erling", [18, 11]=>"Corene", [22, 3]=>"Haskell", [11, 11]=>"Leta", [10, 9]=>"Terrence", [14, 1]=>"Giuseppe", [15, 3]=>"Silas", [12, 5]=>"Johnnie", [4, 11]=>"Aurelie", [5, 9]=>"Meggie", [2, 7]=>"Phoebe", [0, 3]=>"Sister", [1, 1]=>"Violet", [3, 5]=>"Lilian", [18, 10]=>"Eusebio", [11, 10]=>"Emma", [15, 2]=>"Theodore", [14, 0]=>"Cassidy", [4, 10]=>"Edmund", [2, 6]=>"Claire", [0, 2]=>"Madisen", [1, 0]=>"Kasey", [3, 4]=>"Elijah", [17, 11]=>"Susana", [20, 1]=>"Nicklaus", [21, 3]=>"Kelsie", [10, 11]=>"Garnett", [11, 9]=>"Emanuel", [15, 1]=>"Louvenia", [14, 3]=>"Otho", [13, 5]=>"Vincenza", [3, 11]=>"Tate", [2, 9]=>"Beau", [5, 7]=>"Jason", [6, 1]=>"Jayde", [7, 3]=>"Lamont", [4, 5]=>"Curt", [17, 10]=>"Mack", [21, 2]=>"Lilyan", [10, 10]=>"Ruthe", [14, 2]=>"Georgianna", [4, 4]=>"Nyasia", [6, 0]=>"Sadie", [16, 11]=>"Emil", [21, 1]=>"Melba", [20, 3]=>"Delia", [3, 10]=>"Rosalee", [2, 8]=>"Myrtle", [7, 2]=>"Rigoberto", [14, 5]=>"Jedidiah", [13, 3]=>"Flavie", [12, 1]=>"Evie", [8, 9]=>"Olaf", [9, 11]=>"Stan", [20, 2]=>"Judge", [5, 5]=>"Cassie", [7, 1]=>"Gracie", [6, 3]=>"Armando", [4, 7]=>"Delia", [3, 9]=>"Marley", [16, 10]=>"Robyn", [2, 11]=>"Richie", [12, 0]=>"Gilberto", [13, 2]=>"Dedrick", [9, 10]=>"Liam", [5, 4]=>"Jabari", [7, 0]=>"Enola", [6, 2]=>"Lela", [3, 8]=>"Jade", [2, 10]=>"Johnson", [15, 5]=>"Willow", [12, 3]=>"Fredrick", [13, 1]=>"Beau", [9, 9]=>"Carlie", [8, 11]=>"Daisha", [6, 5]=>"Declan", [4, 1]=>"Carolina", [5, 3]=>"Cruz", [7, 7]=>"Jaime", [0, 9]=>"Anthony", [1, 11]=>"Esta", [13, 0]=>"Shaina", [12, 2]=>"Alec", [8, 10]=>"Lora", [6, 4]=>"Emely", [4, 0]=>"Rodger", [5, 2]=>"Cedrick", [0, 8]=>"Collin", [1, 10]=>"Armani", [16, 5]=>"Brooks", [19, 3]=>"Eleanora", [18, 1]=>"Alva", [7, 5]=>"Melissa", [5, 1]=>"Tabitha", [4, 3]=>"Aniya", [6, 7]=>"Marc", [1, 9]=>"Marjorie", [0, 11]=>"Arvilla", [19, 2]=>"Adela", [7, 4]=>"Zakary", [5, 0]=>"Emely", [4, 2]=>"Alison", [1, 8]=>"Lorenz", [0, 10]=>"Lisandro", [17, 5]=>"Aylin", [18, 3]=>"Giles", [19, 1]=>"Kyleigh", [8, 5]=>"Mary", [11, 3]=>"Claire", [10, 1]=>"Avis", [9, 7]=>"Manuela", [15, 11]=>"Chesley", [18, 2]=>"Kristopher", [24, 3]=>"Zola", [8, 4]=>"Pietro", [10, 0]=>"Delores", [11, 2]=>"Timmy", [15, 10]=>"Khalil", [18, 5]=>"Trudie", [17, 3]=>"Rafael", [16, 1]=>"Anthony"} What I need to do though, is basically remove all the empty entries. Let's say [17,3] = Raphael does not have an element in front of if (let's say - no [16,3] exists) then [17,3] should become [16,3] etc. So basically all empty items will be popped off the vertical (row) structure of the hash. Are there functions I should have a look at or is there an easy squash-like method that would just remove blanks and adjust and move other items? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Select a distinct record, filtering is not working..

    - by help_inmssql
    Hello EVery I am new to SQl. query to result in the following records. I have a table with records as c1 c2 c3 c4 c5 c6 1 John 2.3.2010 12:09:54 4 7 99 2 mike 2.3.2010 13:09:59 8 6 88 3 ahmad 2.3.2010 13:09:59 1 9 19 4 Jim 23.3.2010 16:35:14 4 5 99 5 run 23.3.2010 12:09:54 3 8 12 I want to fecth only records. i.e only 1 latest record per day. If both of them happen at the same time, sort by C1.so in 1&3 it should fetch 3. 3 ahmad 2.3.2010 14:09:59 1 9 19 4 Jim 23.3.2010 16:35:14 4 5 99 I have got a new problem in this. If i filter the records based on conditions the last record is missing. I tried many ways but still it is failing. Here update_log is my table. SELECT * FROM update_log t1 WHERE (t1.c3) = ( SELECT MAX(t2.c3) FROM update_log t2 WHERE DATEDIFF(dd,t2.c3, t1.c3) = 0 ) and t1.c3 > '02.03.2010' and t1.modified_at <= '22.03.2010' ORDER BY t1.c3 ASC. But i am not able to retrieve the record 4 Jim 23.3.2010 16:35:14 4 5 99 I dont know this query results in only 3 ahmad 2.3.2010 14:09:59 1 9 19 The format of the column c3 is datetime. I am pumping the data into the column as using $date = date("d.m.Y H:i",time()); -- simple date fetch of today. Another query that i tried for the same purpose. select * from (select convert(varchar(10), c3,104) as date, max(c3) as max_date, max(c1) as Nr from update_log group by convert(varchar(10), c3,104)) as t2 inner join update_log as t1 on (t2.max_date = t1.c3 and convert(varchar(10), c3,104) = date and t1.[c1]= Nr) WHERE t1.c3 >= '02.03.2010' and t1.c3 <= '16.04.2010' . I even tried this way..the same error last record is not coming..

  • Random encounter not so random

    - by DoomStone
    Hello i am having some problems generating random numbers with C# Now i have this function. public Color getRandomColor() { Color1 = new Random().Next(new Random().Next(0, 100), new Random().Next(200, 255)); Color2 = new Random().Next(new Random().Next(0, 100), new Random().Next(200, 255)); Color3 = new Random().Next(new Random().Next(0, 100), new Random().Next(200, 255)); Color color = Color.FromArgb(Color1, Color2, Color3); Console.WriteLine("R: " + Color1 + " G: " + Color2 + " B: " + Color3 + " = " + color.Name); return color; } Now you might notice that there are ALOT of new Random() there, that is because i want to weed out the probability that it could be a same instance error. I now run this function 8 times, a couple of times. Now here are the out puts. R: 65 G: 65 B: 65 = ff414141 R: 242 G: 242 B: 242 = fff2f2f2 R: 205 G: 205 B: 205 = ffcdcdcd R: 40 G: 40 B: 40 = ff282828 R: 249 G: 249 B: 249 = fff9f9f9 R: 249 G: 249 B: 249 = fff9f9f9 R: 94 G: 94 B: 94 = ff5e5e5e R: 186 G: 186 B: 186 = ffbababa R: 142 G: 142 B: 142 = ff8e8e8e R: 190 G: 190 B: 190 = ffbebebe R: 19 G: 19 B: 19 = ff131313 R: 119 G: 119 B: 119 = ff777777 R: 119 G: 119 B: 119 = ff777777 R: 75 G: 75 B: 75 = ff4b4b4b R: 169 G: 169 B: 169 = ffa9a9a9 R: 127 G: 127 B: 127 = ff7f7f7f R: 73 G: 73 B: 73 = ff494949 R: 27 G: 27 B: 27 = ff1b1b1b R: 125 G: 125 B: 125 = ff7d7d7d R: 212 G: 212 B: 212 = ffd4d4d4 R: 174 G: 174 B: 174 = ffaeaeae R: 0 G: 0 B: 0 = ff000000 R: 0 G: 0 B: 0 = ff000000 R: 220 G: 220 B: 220 = ffdcdcdc As you can see this is not so random again, but why dose this happens? and how can i counter it?

  • How can I run a BitchX when I don't have ssh or shell access?

    I just installed an IRC bot, B****X (Don't ask, I don't know - the real name is not censored). I did all of the configuration and chmod'ed the pl files to 755, but running it won't work. • Why does this data YYYY-MM-DD regex fail in Java?

    - by ProfessionalAmateur
    Hello StackOverFlow, My first question and Im excited... I've lurked since go-live and love the site, however I apologize for any newbie errors, formatting, etc... I'm attempting to validate the format of a string field that contains a date in Java. We will receive the date in a string, I will validate its format before parsing it into a real Date object. The format being passed in is in the YYYY-MM-DD format. However I'm stuck on one of my tests, if I pass in "1999-12-33" the test will fail (as it should with a day number 33) with this incomplete pattern: ((19|20)\\d{2})-([1-9]|0[1-9]|1[0-2])-([12][0-9]|3[01]) However as soon as I add the characters in bold below it passes the test (but should not) ((19|20)\\d{2})-([1-9]|0[1-9]|1[0-2])-(0[1-9]|[1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01]) *additional note, I know I can change the 0[1-9]|[1-9] into 0?[1-9] but I wanted to break everything down to its most simple format to try and find why this isn't working. Here is the scrap test I've put together to run through all the different date scenarios: import java.util.regex.Matcher; import java.util.regex.Pattern; public class scrapTest { public scrapTest() { } public static void main(String[] args) { scrapTest a = new scrapTest(); boolean flag = a.verfiyDateFormat("1999-12-33"); } private boolean verfiyDateFormat(String dateStr){ Pattern datePattern = Pattern.compile("((19|20)\\d{2})-([1-9]|0[1-9]|1[0-2])-(0[1-9]|[1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])"); Matcher dateMatcher = datePattern.matcher(dateStr); if(!dateMatcher.find()){ System.out.println("Invalid date format!!! -> " + dateStr); return false; } System.out.println("Valid date format."); return true; } } Ive been programming for ~10 years but extremely new to Java, so please feel free to explain anything as elementary as you see fit.

  • Collapsing data frame by selecing one row per group

    - by jkebinger
    I'm trying to collapse a data frame by removing all but one row from each group of rows with identical values in a particular column. In other words, the first row from each group. For example, I'd like to convert this > d = data.frame(x=c(1,1,2,4),y=c(10,11,12,13),z=c(20,19,18,17)) > d x y z 1 1 10 20 2 1 11 19 3 2 12 18 4 4 13 17 Into this: x y z 1 1 11 19 2 2 12 18 3 4 13 17 I'm using aggregate to do this currently, but the performance is unacceptable with more data: > d.ordered = d[order(-d$y),] > aggregate(d.ordered,by=list(key=d.ordered$x),FUN=function(x){x[1]}) I've tried split/unsplit with the same function argument as here, but unsplit complains about duplicate row numbers. Is rle a possibility? Is there an R idiom to convert rle's length vector into the indices of the rows that start each run, which I can then use to pluck those rows out of the data frame?

  • checking and replacing a value in an array jquery

    - by liz
    i have a table of data: <table id="disparities" class="datatable"> <thead> <tr> <th scope="col">Events</th> <th scope="col">White</th> <th scope="col">Black</th> <th scope="col">Hispanic</th><th scope="col">Asian/Pacific Islands</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <th scope="row">Hospitalizations</th> <td>0.00</td> <td>20</td> <td>10</td> <td>5</td> </tr> <tr> <th scope="row">ED Visits</th> <td>19</td> <td>90</td> <td>40</td> <td>18</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> i have a function that retrieves the values from the above table into an array like so (0.00,19) var points1 = $('#disparities td:nth-child(2)').map(function() { return $(this).text().match(/\S+/)[0]; }).get(); i want to check if there is a 0.00 value (or it could be just 0) and change that value to NA... so my resulting array is then (NA,19) not really sure how to go about this, whether in the initial match or as a separate action...

  • geom_ribbon doesn't work - Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'variable' not found

    - by Marciszka
    I try to add a geom_ribbon object to my ggplot2 plot. In my data frame, I have an NA values that (I guess) may cause a problem. This is a reproducible example of data drame I have: base <- c(1:10, rep(NA, 10)) output1 <- c(rep(NA, 9), 10 - 0:10) output2 <- c(rep(NA, 9), 10 + 0:10) xaxis <- 1:20 df <- data.frame(xaxis, base, output1, output2) df xaxis base output1 output2 1 1 1 NA NA 2 2 2 NA NA 3 3 3 NA NA 4 4 4 NA NA 5 5 5 NA NA 6 6 6 NA NA 7 7 7 NA NA 8 8 8 NA NA 9 9 9 NA NA 10 10 10 10 10 11 11 NA 9 11 12 12 NA 8 12 13 13 NA 7 13 14 14 NA 6 14 15 15 NA 5 15 16 16 NA 4 16 17 17 NA 3 17 18 18 NA 2 18 19 19 NA 1 19 20 20 NA 0 20 And my attempt to plot a ggplot2 object with a geom_ribbon: dfm <- melt(df, id=1) ggplot(dfm, aes(x = xaxis, y = value, colour = variable)) + geom_line(aes(group=variable)) + geom_ribbon(data=df, aes(group = 1, ymin=output1, ymax=output2)) And, eventually, I got an error I cannot deal with: Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'variable' not found Thank ypu in advance for any suggestions.

  • Jquery UI Datepicker disabling wrong days

    - by Nazariy
    I have run in to issue that days that have to be disabled are shifted to the next day. The idea is that day that does not exist in our booking object or have a value less than 1 should be disabled on calendar. here is simplified version of my script and demonstration on jsfiddle: var bookings = { "2012-09-01": 24, "2012-09-03": 31, "2012-09-05": 27, "2012-09-06": 9, "2012-09-07": 18, "2012-09-08": 0, "2012-09-10": 20, "2012-09-12": 19, "2012-09-13": 0, "2012-09-14": 9, "2012-09-15": 24, "2012-09-17": 19, "2012-09-19": 28, "2012-09-20": 15, "2012-09-21": 12, "2012-09-22": 25, "2012-09-24": 19, "2012-09-26": 0, "2012-09-27": 0, "2012-09-28": 0, "2012-09-29": 0 }; function MyEvent(date) { bookings = bookings || {}; this.date = date.toISOString().substr(0, 10); this.display = (typeof bookings[this.date] == 'number' && bookings[this.date] > 0); return this; } MyEvent.prototype.toArray = function () { return [this.display, null, null]; }; $(function () { $('#eventCalendar').datepicker({ dateFormat: "yy-mm-dd", firstDay: 1, defaultDate: "2012-09-24", beforeShowDay: function (date) { return new MyEvent(date).toArray(); } } ); }); Can some one suggest me what am I doing wrong or is it a bug?

  • iphone nsarray problem?

    - by Brodie4598
    Okay maybe i just need another set of eyes on this, but I have the following lines of code in one of my view controllers. It takes some data from a file, and populates it into an array using "\n" as a separator. I then use that array to make an NSDictionary, which is used to populate a tableview. It's very simple. However it isnt working. Here's the code: NSString *dataString = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:checklistPath encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding error:NULL]; if ([dataString hasPrefix:@"\n"]) { dataString = [dataString substringFromIndex:1]; } NSArray *tempArray = [dataString componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"]; NSLog(@"datastring:%@",dataString); NSLog(@"temp array:",tempArray); NSLog(@"%i",[tempArray count]); NSDictionary *temporaryDictionary = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject: tempArray forKey:@"User Generated Checklist"]; self.names = temporaryDictionary; NSLog(@"names:%@",names); so in the log, datastring is correct, so it's correctly pulling the data from a file. however for tempArray, i get: 2010-05-17 19:15:55.825 MyApp[7309:207] temp array: for the tempArray count i get: 2010-05-17 19:15:55.826 myApp[7309:207] 5 which is the correct number of strings in the array So i'm stumped. I have the EXACT same few lines of code in a different view controller and it works perfectly. Whats crazier is the last NSLog, that shows the final NSDictionary (names) displays this, which looks correct: 2010-05-17 19:15:55.827 FS Companion[7309:207] names:{ "User Generated Checklist" = ( "System|||ACTION", "System|||ACTION", "System|||ACTION", "System|||ACTION", "System|||ACTION" ); \ am i missing something really obvious??

  • How to intercept touch events globally?

    - by mystify
    I have an view which is sometimes covered by some other views. However, if the user slides the finger across the screen, I want to slide that underlying view across the screen, too. I could start making custom views for all those covering subviews and forward all kinds of touch events, but that's somewhat cumbersome. Maybe there's some kind of notification or another way that a UIView or UIControl subclass can be aware of touch events happening right now, no matter where they are. In short: I need an UIView subclass or UIControl subclass which knows about any touch events happening on the entire screen. Or at least if tht's not possible, knowing about any touch events happening above itself in the same underlying superview. Another description: There are 20 views, all reside inside the same superview. The first view is covered by 19 others. But if the user slides across the screen, that first view must slide too, so it must be aware of touch events. Is there any better solution that making all 19 views forward touch events? (yes, all 19 views respond to touch events in this example)

  • Null Pointer Exception in my BroadcastReceiver class

    - by user1760007
    I want to search a db and toast a specific column on the startup of the phone. The app keeps crashing and getting an exception even though I feel as the code is correct. @Override public void onReceive(Context ctx, Intent intent) { Log.d("omg", "1"); DBAdapter do = new DBAdapter(ctx); Log.d("omg", "2"); Cursor cursor = do.fetchAllItems(); Log.d("omg", "3"); if (cursor.moveToFirst()) { Log.d("omg", "4"); do { Log.d("omg", "5"); String title = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex("item")); Log.d("omg", "6"); // i = cursor.getInt(cursor.getColumnIndex("id")); Toast.makeText(ctx, title, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } while (cursor.moveToNext()); } cursor.close(); } The frustrating part is that I don't see any of my "omg" logs show up in logcat. I only see when my application crashes. I get three lines of errors in logcat. 10-19 12:31:11.656: E/AndroidRuntime(1471): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start receiver com.test.toaster.MyReciever: java.lang.NullPointerException 10-19 12:31:11.656: E/AndroidRuntime(1471): at com.test.toaster.DBAdapter.fetchAllItems(DBAdapter.java:96) 10-19 12:31:11.656: E/AndroidRuntime(1471): at com.test.toaster.MyReciever.onReceive(MyReciever.java:26) For anyone interested, here is my DBAdapter fetchAllItems code: public Cursor fetchAllItems() { return mDb.query(DATABASE_TABLE, new String[] { KEY_ITEM, KEY_PRIORITY, KEY_ROWID }, null, null, null, null, null); }

  • Finding the digit root of a number

    - by Jessica M.
    Study question is to find the digit root of a already provided number. The teacher provides us with the number 2638. In order to find the digit root you have to add each digit separately 2 + 6 + 3 + 8 = 19. Then you take the result 19 and add those two digits together 1 + 9 = 10. Do the same thing again 1 + 0 = 1. The digit root is 1. My first step was to use the variable total to add up the number 2638 to find the total of 19. Then I tried to use the second while loop to separate the two digits by using the % I have to try and solve the problem by using basic integer arithmetic (+, -, *, /). 1.Is it necessary and or possible to solve the problem using nested while loops? 2.Is my math correct? 3. As I wrote it here it does not run in Eclipse. Am I using the while loops correctly? import acm.program.*; public class Ch4Q7 extends ConsoleProgram { public void run(){ println("This program attempts to find the digit root of your number: "); int n = readInt("Please enter your number: "); int total = 0; int root = total; while (n > 0 ){ total = total + (n %10); n = (n / 10); } while ( total > 0 ){ root = total; total = ((total % 10) + total / 10); } println("your root should be " + root); } }
